Yeah it’s just too bad the pirate build is rendered fucking useless. Spent 3 hours building my ship for pirating, 80+ hours of game time and finally fucking gave up. I spent that much time just to realize my whole character was pointless. Crimson fleet mission board is actually broken, meaning that smuggling missions after a certain point will flat out stop appearing. So don’t expect to make a Han Solo character either. Also, a lot of the times you can’t actually pirate a ship, because sometimes the game won’t recognize you killed the last witness, accruing you up to sometimes 80,000 creds of bounty. And then let’s say you just go to jail for that? Sounds like a fair shake right? Wrong. You can actually get NEGATIVE xp for doing this. Meaning you can go -20,000 xp in debt. Considering most missions won’t give you over 100xp in rewards: You’re fucked. I love playing this game so much but GOD DAMN. Why oh why Bethesda would you make my whole build POINTLESS?
I've heard mixed information about crew skills - some people say you need to have a point in that skill before crew skills take effect, some people say they don't... I'm not sure what to believe. But, if you don't need the skills, I'm thinking of a slightly different pirate build that doesn't lean as heavily into the tech tree. Certain skills are still a must-have (boost pack, targeting control systems, piloting), but my line of thought is - what is a pirate without their ship, and what is a ship without its crew? This would give purpose to crewmates, and allow you the player to stack up into other skills to vary your play style. And if you want an added challenge, don't use the story companions for your crew. Maybe you drop some points in Astrodynamics, Scanning and Chemistry to go further, figure out if the juice is worth the squeeze before pouncing on a target, and craft your own chems to be even more vicious in a fight. Cuz what's scarier than a pirate with Revenant? A pirate with Revenant jacked on Frostwolf.
So excited for starfield builds! I actually played a pirate build as my first character exactly like this build and I ended up re making him once I nailed the skills and I really Wanted to share with everyone here. Getting ship weapons skills early is TRASH dont do it. They force you into a set weapon load out and takes away your incentive to mix different weapons on different ships. Grab the essential perks from tech down to the bottom boost pack perk or whatever I just took that one. Come back for ship weapon perks late game or right before you start new game plus to give your starting ship a buff. Also prioritize the ship shield and engine perks first as the shield one is the BEST overall ship perk making you super beefy and the engine skill is for the rank 4 of the skill cuz its broken. Also ship weapon perks feel unnecessary as your class C ship will be melting everything anyway lol. Happy hunting
Forgot to mention skipping ship weapon skills for later also allows you to get more social/combat perks early. So yeah, dont get ship weapon perks till like level 30 plus
One thing he didn’t mention is that it makes sense for the pirate to take bounty missions early on due to their background. Good money, and XP to get you over that level 15 threshold. Just don’t take pirate bounties after joining the CF, unless you have the money to pay them off.

It really helps me get into the roleplay of the character if I have a name and face to apply to them. I think investing in the 'Scanning 4' perk in tech tree would be a good fit, as not only can you see what the cargo value is, but at max rank what all cargo they have, and as in FudgeMuppets Pirate Ship video where the 'basement' had server rooms and such could be how your getting that information. Also watching this is making me want to jump back on after getting off not too long ago. *sigh*. Keep up the good work @FudgeMuppet
My edits for very hard: You can save 4 skill points by not taking Ballistic Systems, since doubling up on particles is way more effective. Only grab commerce and deception since the magshear will absolutely thresh enemies and make intimidate redundant. Persuasion is still optional, but can probably also get dumped. Take scavenging for sure. Rank 1 of boostpack is all you'll need, the rest are more gimmicky than useful. Take Wellness and medicine, two absolutely essential skills for going loud. USE. DRUGS. ALWAYS. It turns out a hopped up pirate is way more effective than a sober one. Sell that booty so you can hit the snooty.
Fun fact, since the game's characters refer in a few locations to space as "the blackest sea", an alternative title for your build could be "Scourge of the Blackest Sea".
I am currently playing a UC colony war vet (soldier background and UC Native trait). While serving, he volunteered for a xenoweapon experiment that would combine alien DNA with human (Alien DNA trait). Im sort of going for a lesser super soldier version of Cpt America and maybe a little more on the morally gray side. Because he is, in a way, a xenoweapon, some government members consider him a threat to the peace and I violation of the armistice, so he has a bounty on his head (wanted trait). I like him a lot because I feel like I can rationalize doing really any faction questline
If your Revenant loses power towards late game, which honestly probably won't happen, but if it does: You can always farm a high level elite for the drop you want. In this case you'd be looking for an advanced magshear with Piercing, or maybe some other traits. Furious might make it chew through terrormorphs at a nice rate as well, I'm not sure. Farm how? Just find a powerful enemy, damage them to very low hp, set game to very hard if it wasn't already, make a save. Now every time you load you just finish off that low hp elite, and check the drop. Takes like 2-3 seconds per roll. I know it's cheesy. But it's also silly you can progress to a very high level with high accomplishments, a million credits, a battlecruiser/hotel parked outside, but somehow not the gun you actually want.
With all the character traits you can take it really opens up for some cool backgrounds. And you don't have to work within the confines of "Cyrosleep Soldier or Lawyer" baggage anymore! I've always enjoyed your channel's builds so I'm looking forward to what you come up with now.
Hey Fudge, cool idea of the build and story. I already had something similiar myself. I just wonder, how do you fit in the whole constelation thingy? Having pirate gameplay alone and steal/hijack ships in space gets a bit dull at some point. But doing normal quests for help this or that is not my idea of being pirate. Did you get any idea/justification how to fit constilation in with your pirate rpwise. ?
Well constellation is pretty neutral they just don’t want you doing the shit around them so for example if you’re with Sarah and do some pirate shit she’s going to hate it but from a role-play perspective, you could think that she more dislikes that you’re doing it around her so you’re getting her in trouble also, you can think about it this way too. She is a don’t ask don’t tell type of gal as long as you’re helping out because then yeah and from also a role-play perspective, you could think that even though they’re a pirate they still want to understand what the Hells going on out there in space so they’re curious.
Great take on a pirate build. I’ve been running a Bounty Hunter build since launch, inspired by the likes of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian for the aesthetic. I use the Mantis Helmet combined with the Bounty Hunter Spacesuit and it makes for an awesome armored aesthetic, and in my opinion, the coolest looking armor combo in the current game. I use the boost pack a lot in combat for the maneuverability advantage alongside pistols and sniper rifles.
Ive got the exactsame setup my friend. Themantis helmetbounty hunter armor setup is judt peak fashion imo. I use the ranger pack cause it looks themost like a actually jetpack but the deepseekerpack looks good to.
I'm really confused. I'm trying to write this down so I can refer back to it as I go along and while I'm aware there aren't really set levels for a lot of this, your benchmarks are a little unhelpful, in that each one seems to include all the skills you've gotten previously and now I can't tell if you meant to (for example) bump Payloads or Security up to 2 by L30 and simply made a mistake. It doesn't help that after L30, you then go straight to suggesting taking Rank 3 of Security as though you'd taken Rank 2 already. I might just be making a mountain out of a molehill here, but any help would be appreciated. I've been playing your Bounty Hunter build already and I'm really enjoying it. so I wanted to give this a try as well. Oh, and should I wait to begin the CF questline until after I've built the ship or as soon as I can? I'm assuming if I can pay off my bounty, I can make use of Hopetown, but obviously I'd like to know that before I get started.
So where is the honest review?? And by the way how can you play as a space pirate when you can't kill hardly any npc...if your wanting to be a pirate kill...that thing and pillage very limited. Kill other pirates..extremely random spacers? The pirate appears from the abyss.... what a mine then given a ship freely. And the main story is crap and has been spoiled. Dialogue is crap in Side quest and main... so guys honest review rather then pointless builds
One nice thing is starting with the bounty hunter class. You actually can disable the engines of one of the tutorial pirate ships and commandeer it. Granted it doesnt have as much cargo and such as the Frontier but gives a nice rp ship at the start.
I wan to see the build you had as broll in a previous vid. You used a plasma pistol and had awesome mobility with a jetpack. That looked dope. Maybe roleplay as a true scientist.
another weapon you can get is vlad's old pistol from the basement of his house. if you do the main quest and get the prompt to meet vlad, he'll give you a mission to visit his house. there you can get his old pirate pistol, it's a unique, also uses the MI style ammo so it makes a fitting sidearm to accompany the keelhauler.
Great video Scott, exactly what I was looking for. I am lvl 15 and was wondering when in your opinion would be the best time to start the Crimson Fleet quest line but not only in reference of the lvl but also in reference of the Main quest line? Thanks
The build i wanted to see thanks. What i will ask is can you play alone with NO companions either with the Crimson fleet or in the main story? PS: if you can play alone i might go with (Wanted/Spaced/Introvert)
I glad you guys are doing these awesome build videos again I really missed them. I would like to see a Diplomat build where you use your words first before violence and have companion boyfriend protecting you.
I was going to make a Mary Reading Pirate. Now I think I'll do Anne Bonney and then have them all! There are so many possibilities in this game. I am doing a space nerd right now, doing research and building outposts and surveying everything. A pirate or a gunslinger will be a good break from all of that.
I want to see something really challenging; a 'Research Master' crafting specialized build. How hard is the game if all you do is craft, build and upgrade. Improved weapons and spacesuits? Yes. Improved outposts? Yes. Gonzo chems? Yes. Some improved ship components(limited to Class A due to no Piloting)? Yes.[Alright...Alright...Piloting and Boost are in the Tech tree so they SHOULD be available. I'll give you that one.] But with no Physical(that means no Stealth, no Fitness, no Wellness), no Social(other than the research and crafting skills such as Gastronomy, Scavenging & Outpost Management), and definitely no Combat, how do you navigate through the questlines? You can't fast-talk your way out of trouble[unless you ingest Paramour like a drunken sailor], and your fighting ability is only helped by your improved gear. ...On second thought...that sounds doable!
@-FudgeMuppet1--- The orginal idea came from the question: Why do we need Combat at all? It seems to be nothing but a pile of +10%, +20% marginal increases in damage that are automatically gimped to the spongyness of enemies as they get higher level. So, if Combat can be skipped entirely, what else can be skipped. In Physical there are a few quality of life things that make gameplay faster/less grueling(i.e. Fitness, Wellness, Weightlifting) but mostly it seems astonishingly non-essential. The only skill that adds real power to gameplay is the Stealth+Concealment combo. But do you need stealth? Yes there are a handfull of stealth misssions on Neon, but mostly shotgun-jutsu seems to be quite effective as a gameplay methodology. With Social comes the fast-talker through the Persuade skill and the other dialogue-focused skills. And this can be matched to some degree through chems and apparel with dialogue buffs. Theft can be skipped entirely without limiting gameplay. Leadership is an OP skill, but Persuade 4 and a handfull of 1 rank skills can get you there, or for the hard-ass you can skip this too. That leaves the real meat. Using crafting and research to build a character to dominate the game. So, what are the rules? Crafting/Research and Building skills only. Build a spacesuit/armor and weapons that will do most of your fighting for you. You could be a 50kg weakling inside your suit but your tech dominates your enemies. When it comes to ships, you don't actually need to be any good at ship fighting, but with ship component upgrades you build such a Star Destroyer that you can blast those squadrons of level 55 pirate scum right out of space with long-range PARs. They'll be dead before they can even get in range. This seems to be the kind of game where Tony Stark could be a true space god. Also, your twitter(NewberryCrunch) doesn't seem to work for me.
Nice! Can't wait to see a bounty hunter build, but more importantly. Every since your tinkerer build in fallout 4, that's honestly been my #1 go to build in that game. You think it would be possible to make a build like that in Starfield?
That pirate build is spot on, I really love the viciousness of the Mag Sheer, armor choice and being a pirate through and through. In the same vein I'd love a melee Slasher Build, Called The Stowaway: An agent of House Va'ruun, seeker of secrets with a golden tongue and deadly fangs up close or from afar, hidden or the frontline, beneath the guise of a socialite, hides a calculating brutal agent for whom no secret or object of power is safe from their grasp, a gray personality driven by loyalty and zealous dedication to House Va'ruun's goals and the principles they bestowed upon The Stowaway, a mysterious figure with a talent for the seemingly supernatural ability to comprehend the world around them and leave no stone unturned in the search for the unknown, even if they're the first to ever find out, they always seem to know, even if they're not aware of it, yet.
So long as the builds keep coming, the Likes, Comments and Shares will keep following. The amount of times I recommended your channel for skyrim and F4 was insane. Love the build videos beyond belief. I have a main character doing the whole NG+ a billion thing, but I have a character for every build where I beat the game (gunslinger already beat) and then if I want to go back and play them again, they are ready for me to NG+ it and start over and have some fun... with the twists of NG+1 Just started the Pirate build now. so should have it beat by the end of sunday, especially since some of the factions are not gonna be played.

You can save 4 skill points by not taking Ballistic Systems, since doubling up on particles is way more effective.
If your Revenant loses power towards late game, which honestly probably won't happen, but if it does:
You can always farm a high level elite for the drop you want.
By far my favorite looking armor sets in the game.
With all the character traits you can take it really opens up for some cool backgrounds. And you don't have to work within the confines of "Cyrosleep Soldier or Lawyer" baggage anymore! I've always enjoyed your channel's builds so I'm looking forward to what you come up with now.
I prefer the "cryosleep lawyer" myself
I use the ranger pack cause it looks themost like a actually jetpack but the deepseekerpack looks good to.
i Love your Character Idea's but i must say that i am curious how you would make a Va'ruun based Character with al the backround and Roleplay aspects.
This is so sick! I'm going to start a new game and start this build. Looks like fun
I'd Love To See A Scientist Type Build Similar To The Build You Made In Fallout: New Vegas & Fallout 4!
Hey fudgemuppet, i know this build will be pretty low on the cue, but have you considered a space trucker / long haul trader build?
I wan to see the build you had as broll in a previous vid. You used a plasma pistol and had awesome mobility with a jetpack. That looked dope. Maybe roleplay as a true scientist.
I just made my first female character. A bounty hunter who has alien dna that makes her almost like Selene from underworld
Awesome build! Would love to see a pirate hunter counterpart build too.
another weapon you can get is vlad's old pistol from the basement of his house. if you do the main quest and get the prompt to meet vlad, he'll give you a mission to visit his house. there you can get his old pirate pistol, it's a unique, also uses the MI style ammo so it makes a fitting sidearm to accompany the keelhauler.
rule of cool over statistical perfection, always picks the atronach starsign despite others being a better fit roleplay wise. lol
Are you guys doing faction builds first? Can't wait for the UC Commando!
Great video Scott, exactly what I was looking for. I am lvl 15 and was wondering when in your opinion would be the best time to start the Crimson Fleet quest line but not only in reference of the lvl but also in reference of the Main quest line? Thanks
Lol I kind of been building this same character on my own during my play through
Va’Ruun build would be really cool to see
The Great Serpent sees all!
I used adoring fan, instead of spaced… every captain needs a minion. And it’s been entertaining for sure
YEEEEEEAH BUDDY LETS GO BOYS
You guys are on fire
Love it as always! Looking foward to the industrialist build. My current play through because there is nothing miney can't buy.
Honestly heavy crafting might outweigh combat perks. There's multiple mid to high tier mods that give 5+ damage each on weapons.
Surely a pirate build needs the ship command skill?
Finally someone in a starfield video talking about Treasure Planet
can you still play this game after beating the main quest or do you start over with the perks like a new game plus
You Still can play the Game and explore around you won't have to start a new game but you always can start fresh if you wish too.
This is cool. 👌 Why nothing in weight lifting to carry more loot?
Nice! Can't wait to see a bounty hunter build, but more importantly.
Every since your tinkerer build in fallout 4, that's honestly been my #1 go to build in that game.
You think it would be possible to make a build like that in Starfield?
Great build. Crazy ship build.
Awesome build 👏. Fudgemuppet never disappoints.
Magshear type weapons are the most busted weapon in the game.
That pirate build is spot on, I really love the viciousness of the Mag Sheer, armor choice and being a pirate through and through.
In the same vein I'd love a melee Slasher Build, Called The Stowaway:
An agent of House Va'ruun, seeker of secrets with a golden tongue and deadly fangs up close or from afar, hidden or the frontline, beneath the guise of a socialite, hides a calculating brutal agent for whom no secret or object of power is safe from their grasp, a gray personality driven by loyalty and zealous dedication to House Va'ruun's goals and the principles they bestowed upon The Stowaway, a mysterious figure with a talent for the seemingly supernatural ability to comprehend the world around them and leave no stone unturned in the search for the unknown, even if they're the first to ever find out, they always seem to know, even if they're not aware of it, yet.
40k space marine build when?
