I literally have been playing this game for YEARS and know it inside and out, but never once have a realized that shortcut was a thing. I always assumed the door was there to trick new players into wondering out if it straight into their death
Same lmao. Initially I didn't even understand why he went that way, it didn't occur to me that it lets you skip all the swordsmen until he called it a shortcut.

I don't know why looking things up on the first playthrough has to be so forbidden in these games. They sometimes fail to explain or even hint at key information and you might be handicapping yourself badly without knowing it. I don't think anyone fully figured out what adaptability did in DS2 without looking it up.

I love dark souls 2. I love the new mechanics they added like powerstancing and bonfire ascetics. It has the best fashion souls, and the best build variety out of the games. And I think it has the best story, excited to see more
This, DS2 is slept on hard, But I feel SOTFS kinda ruined the game for some players with the sheer density of the mob spawns. I'd honestly say that SOTFS was a purely multiplayer based DLC to increase the difficulty for people who'd summon each other and breeze thru vanilla DS2. DS2 was my first souls game, and I hold it in my heart fondly
@@yourlocalcyborgotfs fixed everything the original did wrong. Like enemy placement for example. Also inconsistent mechanics were fixed. Ganks are SMALLER in sotfs (frankly, smaller than the ganks in other ds games at least) hell just look at the run to velstadt in the original versus sotfs.
Powerstance with the Chicken Wings 😂 DS2 is rly funny. The best DS for PvP and i think the DS2 PvP Community is not that Toxic like DS1 and DS3.

Just in case you haven't been told about it yet, illusory walls are activated by pressing the interact button instead of attacking or rolling in this game. They're also in much weirder and sneakier spots in general.

Because my first souls game experience was DS2.
And I couldn't beat so I played elden ring and beat that game.
Then played ds1 and beat that game, and now I'm actually progressing in DS2 literally in that area with The Rot.
And I got to say, this some bullshit.
Play Original, not SOTFS. SOTFS is trash by compare.

@@colonelkenpachi5009 Well, as far as I know, all the DLC's are still available outside of Scholar. Not only that, Aldia was patched into the Original. There's nothing to miss... just a mental breakdown is all. But, different strokes for different folks, as they say.
@@SkyCloudSilence i liked SOTFS better, they cut out like 14 of the pointless Fragrant Branches of Yore Statues. I play it for that reason alone. i honestly forget which one had more enemies tho.

I feel your pain bro. I'm a HUGE Fromsoft guy and I've only beaten DS2 twice. First playthrough and a 'whole' catalog playthrough waiting for ER. It's just frustrating

BRO YES I LOVE THIS. Can’t wait to see the rest of the playthrough bro, and maybe someday you’ll come across the want to try out the Scholar of the First Sin edition, alternate enemy and item placement and most people generally think it’s a lot harder than vanilla. Either way keep up the good work man

Once you get used to the weird jank of this game, it can actually become pretty fun. I like to refer to this game as the "casual dark souls" for that reason. It becomes laid back once you understand the game

It's my favorite of the series for that reason haha. The only area I can say I truly dislike is Iron Keep, especially on NG+ with even MORE dudes lmao.
@@Worline8628 Iron keep and Shrine of Amana stop being annoying to me after I started to buying hundreds of poison arrows with Gavlan before entering those places, now those 2 areas are kinda of OK to me

@@Worline8628 the good part is that is viable in any kind of build, Poison arrows don't scale with your Poison damage(stat that determines poison build up), so just putting 12 dex to use the bow in the blacksmith shop is enough.
I'm finishing my DS2 SL1 run.. now THIS is where you'll love the game..also wait till you get to the dlc. Love your videos keep it up!

I'll leave this little tip here to help you out and make the suffering a little more bearable. Level up your ADP (Adaptability) stat to between 90 and 95. It helps a ton with the BS the game throws at you since it speeds up the animation for the Estus Flask and Lifegem consumptipn but it also helps with the i frames. If you want the i frames to be similar to those in DS1, then aim for those recommended ADP levels I mentioned. Thankfully, you can get this fast due to how many bosses and souls you get. Good luck!

@@cryo2934 He’s not talking about the level stat I think. There is a separate character stat like poise related to agility but I agree on the 20 levels on adp.

It's really cool to see how people still play DS2. If I had to give you a recommended weapon for those enemies in plate armor, try the Craftman's Hammer. It's by Steady Hand McDuff; Actually he'll be sitting on the chest you get it from. To move him, just light the sconce in the same room as his and reload the area by resting at a bonfire. You will get the hammer and an upgrade material for it, but I recommend saving it as there may be other weapons you will find and want to use. Also, I would like to see how you react to some of the spells in this game. With Soul Vessels, you can reallocate your levels with the old woman at the beginning of the game, and it would be cool to see you look at the new Hexes category of spells. They require a lot of INT and FAI, but there are some that just *mchwah*, absolutely dominate. Anyway, I am excited to see the rest of your play through!

Yeah the 3 sentinels are hard as hell when I was on ng+7( since this is the highest the difficulty gets) I had to have havels armor and a great clue to defeat em
you missed the best non-havels armor set, the Dranglaic Armor. go back to the Pursuer boss arena (with the balistas) go thru the 2nd archway. don't go to the bird nest, drop down the hole in the smashed floor. you loot it off a corpse, it's the whole set. S tier stuff, and one of the only pieces that has a cape. you can wear the Dranglaic set for the rest of the game.
there's Havel's gear in this game too, but it's also ridiculously heavy. i just wear the gloves, they're the best defense to weight ratio. you can upgrade your armor in this game, same blacksmiths that do your weapons. To open the gate to the blacksmith in Majula, buy the key from the merchant lady next to the Cardinal Tower bonfire in the Forest of the Fallen Giants. There's also an Estus flask upstairs. you can break that locked wooden door with your sword. you can break some other wooden doors in this game, but not all of them. you can also fool enemies into opening them for you if you hit the door with a jumping R2 attack, like you can to open the door in the basement of the room with 5 balistas aimed at the room's entrance, there's a nice stamina ring for you. these are some hints you probably wouldn't know without looking them up, but they're not game breaking or spoilers.

DS2 is my absolute favorite game of the trilogy, fight me but imo it had the best environments (minus black gulch) and the best PvP with 95% of the weapons being viable

Strike damage. A lot of the enemies are weak to it. Once I switched to the Craftsmans Hammer as my main weapon the game opened up a lot. Also, upgrade a bow and try to pick off as many enemies from far away as possible. Its time consuming but makes it more manageable. That is my very general advice. I've not yet beaten the game but I'm pretty close to the end. Fighting Sir Alonne now.

Picked a warrior for my first play through and made it to The Rotten without leveling adp. Got stuck for hours and looked up how to light roll etc and saw that s were tied to adp, played half the game thinking I just sucked at timing smh

As someone who's favorite of the three dark souls games is 2(I love experimental changed and mechanics, which DS2 is obviously full of such as Adp, Catalysts calculating spell power using actual elemental damage instead of sb/ma/sa/ss/is, replacing motion values with counter strength, powerstancing, having poise and hyperarmor, new weapon categories that didn't come back until Elden Ring like Twinblades and Lances, NPC graves and SO MUCH MORE), I gotta say this a certified dark souls 2 moment(but for real if ever you need tips/help/explanations myself and I'm sure many others would be willing to help you acclimate)

Not true. Adp at max adp only adds 16 frames (lower frames than what the brain is mentally capable of noticing) but it only speeds up things like casting time

Estus is also consumed faster it's very noticeable Vs fast bosses like Sir Allone or Ivory King.
You also get way more s it's a very noticeable difference in that department as well

I started with DS2, I didnt know it was worse than DS1 so I thought it was amazing. Took a small break but after finishing the game, I was hooked. Glad to see you're enjoying it! But yeah you kinda skipped a few areas lmao. Well done though!
It ain’t worse than ds1. I personally believe (and can substantiate) that ds2 and bloodborne are the only good games fromsoft has made, but I’m willing to accept the idea that someone might think elden ring or sekiro or ds3 or something might be better. But ds1? I legit cannot mentally fathom how anyone likes that game. After platinuming it on ps4 im never touching it ever again. It’s a cesspit of bad game design, bugs, glitches, toxic player base, Broken hitboxes (ceaseless discharge hitbox is 10 times worse than any ds2 bad hitbox video you can find on RUclips). It was just simply an unfinished mess, with bad coding and riddled with budget cuts. I played ds2 last fully expecting it to be everything mauler made up about it and honestly I have zero idea where the community even gets it’s criticisms from

Every game fromsoft made is good. Dark souls 3 is literally 2 but much more polished, better dlcs, and is boss fights are the best in all of the souls games, and the final boss of the ringed city dlc is I'd argue the best boss in any videogame. Most of your complaints about 1 are the bug, glitches, toxic player base, and bad hitboxes, which is all completely abent in daark soouls 3 and ekiro. Isshin beiing the final boss of that game is perfect since the whole point of sekiro, including the narrative, is to give an extra feel on it's atmosphere and thus improves the combat. Sekiro's combat is the single best combat system out of all the games. Its unique, different from the other games, its fun, the bosses fit perfectly with it, and theres nothing "unfair" about this system since unlike the other souls games, theres only one or two real ways to avoid damage from an enemy move, so if you take damage, its never the game's fault. It's camera angles and hitboxes are also fantastic in comparison to the ones in dark souls 1, or even a few encounters in dark souls 3. They're all fantastic games.
I will agree with you on the fact that dark souls 1 has the worst parts of any souls game. It's second half is outright terrible in some parts, and good at the very best. However this doesn't stop from the first half of the game being flawless. I don't use that term often, but the first half of dark souls is about as close to perfection as you can get. You might be thinking about bad stuff like capra demon and some janky hitboxes. But you have to realize that 1, this game came out 12 years ago, so your argument is invalid since its essentially like saying ocarina of time is a bad game because it doesn't look as good as cyberpunk 2077 or bloodborne, when they came out like 25 years ago. Also, yes theres bad aspects of its first half like Capra demon, but it fills that hole with other things it gets right, like incredible atmosphere and lore, which it didn't have to. They act as "bonus points", like on a test, but instead it fills that hole of stuff it gets wrong. That's the reason why so many people adore these games. You have to stop looking at them like a game but rather as a work of art.
Demon souls has the best graphicss, and dark souls 1 has the best world, lore, and highest highs of quality. Dark souls 2 has the best variety of builds, best dlcs in bang for ur buck, and best hub area. Dark souls 3 has the best bosses and dlc. Sekiro has by far the best combat, elden ring has the best art direction, and bloodborne has the best atmosphere and style. Your complaints about dark soulss 1 are valid like 70% of the time, but they aren't big enough to warrant the game being "bad" or even not good to the cesspool of bad games tthat come out today, like the cash grab sports games and abhorrent assassins creed games with EA.
All of the souls games are a masterpiece, not perfect, since those are 2 different terms. Your criticisms are very inconsequential in comparison to everything else they get right. Using their fanbase against the actual product is cheap.

I have seen no mention in the comments or in the video but you basically started playing in the covenant of champions which is basically hard mode, I dont know if you knew about this or not and just got in another covenant just by chance.
The jump button doen't work on press, it works on release. Same thing for roll. It killed me many times too.

I never replay Dark Souls I because I just don't really vibe with it, idk why either because I don't dislike it. Dark Souls II however I've already played through twice (again, Vanilla. My first time trying it was Scholar of the First Sin and I dropped the game real quick as I really did not like it) and likely will play through it a third time.
I think DSII has its issues (hitboxes for one, ADP for second) but it also has so many quality of life changes that are just "missed" in Dark Souls I if you go back to that game imo.
Definitely earned a sub, wanna see more :)

I always felt, especially after seeing the demo stuff on this game, that the game play was going to be about light management, torch use vs shield or weapon instead of being a game about health management, hence why there are so many healing items… the game was much darker originally…
LOL when people experience the lock on Swing (that still responds to directional responses) and then get confused why they miss. Chefs kiss experience. Level ADP a little, and Bellclaire is a girl.

In Ds2 i learned (for me)when i fight a boss i take off all the clothes for a light roll. I learned that a shield isn't just for fashion, AND dodging left, right, or center is much better than backwards since the hitboxes are a lil wonky.

Dude I think you’ve noticed but your channel exploded with the “I’m a noob playing dark souls” content. IMHO you made the first play-through too short a series with two videos only. I’m sure you had more content from the dlcs, but you only showed the bosses. You’re a funny and entertaining guy to watch, make sure to make more videos of ds2 this time around. Also, don’t let people who hate the game discourage you. I’ve been a hardcore fan since demons souls first released in 2011 and ds2 is my favorite game, though I love them all. If I can give you one advice, search how to power stance on RUclips, it’s not only using two weapons, there’s stats involved, but it brings a whole unique new move set to your attacks, and it’s deadly.
