- I beat Dark souls 2 and its was both fricking easy and hard.
Dark Souls is a series of action role-playing games created by Hidetaka Miyazaki of FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The series began with the release of Dark Souls and has seen two sequels, Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III.
Dark Souls II is a 2014 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Games. An entry in the Dark Souls series, it was released for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

What I like about Dark souls 2 is that the game gives a lot of freedom to do stupid stuff, there is a Ring that makes your bare hands do damage like a regular weapon, so bare hands becomes viable, there is a infusion called mundane that makes joke weapons like the ladle or broken sword viable, and there is a ring for beating the game without dying, and a ring for beating the game without resting at bonfires, so if you want to do a challenge run there is more incentive than just the challenge of doing it.
The vanquishes seal is a ring that adds 200 AR to fists and gives your fists a B scaling in strength and C in dexterity. It also unlocks the ability to powerstance fists while the ring is worn. What I like about ds2 is just the sheer amount of player freedom and variety in choices on what you want to do. This along with bonfire ascetics and an original ng+ gives it easily the most replay value
@@zzodysseuszz yeah, I remember when I wanted to powerstance the Crypt black sword, I just burned a ascetic on the rotten, killed him, did it again, and traded the souls, bonfire ascetics make things more simple
I've never heard of these "challenge" rings. Were they something that were simply rewarded after beating the last boss?
@@mykelmellen2378 you get after the credits, to get the rings you can't die/rest on a bonfire from the start of the NG cycle till the credits sequence, so you can beat the game normally, and do a challenge run on NG+ for example
Also the no resting on Bonfire don't apply to primordial ones, and you can light a bonfire to change where the wayward bone teleports you.

I've always thought of it this way. Especially the nonsense world layout really makes it dream-like or even delirious. We've all had dreams where day turns to night in seconds, and we end up in a completely different and disjointed environment after just walking through a doorway.
@@rohitchaoji Yeah, I feel like if you look at it in a sense like that, for example the infamous Iron Keep transition while obviously being made because the team was rushed, it actually adds weight to the game for me. I've never seen a game be so accidentally metaphorical and I love it and there are many other occurrences like this and a wide variety of areas. Additionally the main theme of all the souls games is losing your memories, humanity, and life. DS2 layout makes you feel like you're losing you're mind a bit almost like a dream. The game is so godly in this sense that I can't help but love it

Not as much of a pain in the ass as the other games. Ds1 has a boatload of problems and bad game design but I reckon ds3 is worse bc of just the input delay. Absolute pain in the ass to play with.

Maybe people want to play Elden Ring but feel like they need to play the other souls games first. That's my reasoning anyway. I had only played DS1 until recently but I own them all now and am going through them chronologically.

Best way to describe DS2 is that it's a good game, just not as good as DS1, DS3, BB, Sekiro or Elden ring
The problem with DS2 is that some people like it and some don't, but most of us still prefer DS1 and DS3. I still think DS2 is a great game though.

About Earthen Peak and Iron Keep - there's a giant volcano on the far side of the first one. And the fight with Mytha happens in a room carved into it, so when you ride the elevator - you go up the volcano, where Iron Keep is situated (at least, that's how it is from the lore perspective, but of course the locations in-game aren't really placed in their right geographic order). But yeah, there is definitely some problems with details here and there, that just looks bizarre. Just wanted to mention it because many players overlook the presence of a gigantic mountain beyond Earthen Peak.
I love that people are finally coming back to ds2 and appreciating it more and more

I like DS 2 (scholar of the first sin) too. It was my first Dark Souls game. I play this game in 2022 and still was amazing how good the game looks, music is great, and some levels looks amazing. As a big fan of FromSoftware games, I can say this game deserves second change.

Literally every boss is easy or bad apart from a couple in the dlc, they move so slowly and attack so slow as long as you level adp your fine, 13 s in a game this slow you should never be hit

@@Daeyaenot true. None of them are bad, it’s worst bosses are literally just boring. Not bad. Stop conflating the two. Also adp is useless, 99 adp gives you 16 frames for a dodge. That’s so low the human brain literally can’t detect that difference.

Twin dragon riders are literally 2 dragonriders, not as bad as godskin duo but still bad. There's a few, but I agree most are, basic would be a better word.
Adp isn't "useless" 32 adp is 13 s which is a ds3 light/med roll. Early game you want at least 9 adp as its scaling from 1 to 9 is ridiculous. Then try to get to 20 for mid game and 32 for late. The game gives you free souls with bonfire aethetics anyway so it's not like it's hard to get to level 140+ anyway by late game without the dlc.
Yes adp is useless if you go past 32, but everything has a soft and hard cap.
@@Daeyae hi, hardcore ds2 player here (more than 2k hours and over 30 characters made, finished the game with). If you’re spending anymore than 9 points on adp you’re wasting points on your build. Anything more than 9 is irrelevant. The traveler starting class has 9 exactly for that reason, so you don’t need to level u adp with that starting class. Sure, your frame data is correct but suggesting 32 points on adp is beyond preposterous my friend.

I feel like so much of the terribly “connected” world of ds2 could be fixed extremely easily with just some out of bounds textures. like the most obvious one in iron keep being behind/above earthen peak. there’s no way this wasn’t pointed out before SotFS, and all they had to do was add a volcano behind earthen peak to represent where we are in the iron keep

@@fiendbusaTechnically in the lore, earthen peak is literally attached to a volcano which the castle(iron keep) sits on top of on. As such an elevator going up the mountain makes sense, lore-wise.
They, sadly, did not emphasize this in game and didn't add the necessary textures for it to make sense.

Dark souls 2 remake, with revamped bosses, more emerald herald lines, and demon souls graphics would make it the best game. It had the advernturey feel elden ring has, just not open world and the sunken and ivory king dlcs further that
I don't get the hatred of Dark Souls 2. I platinumed it, enjoyed the world, the cast was comfy, it was fun vacationing there for four months before playing Demon's Souls for ps3.
Elana is still my bane more than Fume knight but it was a fun struggle for me.

Dark souls 2 was the first souls game I finished. I really loved it and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
While DS2 is easily the worst out of the three DS games (combat being pure garbage: s tied down to a stat, terrible hitboxes, grabs, no weight behind attacks, digustingly bad wet noodle audio when hitting/getting hit, bosses mostly bad or okay at best etc) it's by far the best when it comes to the amount of fun details and creative things you can do or encounter. Gigant using his hand as a weapon, being able to kill Persuer in the first encounter, using fire to affect boss arenas, those wraith summoning bells, dude getting triggered so hard he skips phase 1 after seeing his rival's armor, specific things happening on the bridge depending on how many eggs you've destroyed, being able to deal with the Chariot boss by making so the horse doesn't make the jump, getting fatty's attention away from yourself by dropping corpses to the ground so he can eat them etc.
I really, really wish Elden Ring had more things like these. It's not like it didn't have any at all and not all DS2's ideas were good ones but an open world game would truly benefit from having more interesting interactions and ideas like DS2 had. If there was anything to take from DS2 to ER, it would be this and power stancing.

DS2 was the first Souls game I ever played and I enjoyed it for the most part. Maybe that’s because I didn’t know any better. I have now played all of them but only beaten 2 of them (Bloodborne and Elden Ring) and I can say it’s definitely towards the bottom as far as quality goes.

I enjoyed Dark Souls 2 but it is my least favorite of the entire series and thats because of three reasons: Enemy placement, unfinished game and design, and the probably biggest issue: Adaptibility. I had streamed my latest playthrough of DS2 and I went against Smelter Demon 2.0 last without ever upgrading Adaptibility just to show I dont need it. I beat him after I dont know how many tries and after I was done I alt+F4ed and uninstalled the game on stream laughing like a madman because it was finally over. It makes you think what DS2 woud be like if it was ever finished, especially with how Illusiory Wall uncovered the old design of the Gutter Level and so on.

Hmm, I feel like if you made a tierlist of all the bosses in Dark Souls 1, you'd find that the quality is pretty much on average the same as Dark Souls 2. Capra Demon, Asylum Demon/Stray Demon/Firesage Demon, Gwyndolin, Moonlight Butterfly, Gaping Dragon, Pinwheel, Ceaseless Discharge, Bed of Chaos, Iron Golem all are meh to straight up bad. That's half the roster.
I feel like Dark Souls 2 gets a lot of flack, and some of it for sure is deserved, but then Dark Souls doesn't get that same flack and is considered a masterpiece. Even though Dark Souls has problems too, some of which Dark Souls 2 even fixes.
I think Dark Souls 2 is on par with Dark Souls 1, just in different areas. I also think the level design, while at times being kinda goofy with how you get there (as you showed with the Iron Keep example, seriously, why not just add a portal or something?), overall is one of the best aspects of the game. Drangleic Castle, Heide's Tower of Flame, Majula, No-man's Wharf, Lost Bastille, Shrine of Amana, Dragon Aerie, Frozen Eleum Loyce, Brume Tower, Shulva Sanctum City etc are all absolutely gorgeous.
Yeah, the actual place in the world doesn't make much sense but personally I don't really mind?
I think the main issues with Dark Souls 2 come down mostly to the hitboxes in gameplay, and the overabundance of Souls you get making leveling a bit too easy.
(btw, I am speaking solely from Dark Souls 2 Vanilla, to me, Scholar of the First Sin is worse in almost every aspect as a game)
idk, there's probably people that would disagree with me, but I just feel like Dark Souls 1 gets too much praise for the issues it has (still a good game) while Dark Souls 2 gets too much shit despite it sharing on average the same amount of issues.
And DS3 gets almost no shit despite being a horrible game.
I really like Iron Keep, especially for its intricacy, and I like the enemies, just probably the original placement over scholar. I think there was about one or two less in the smelter demon run, at least.
I feel like Dark Souls 2 is a great game that tries SO HARD to be a bad one.
I mean, look at Majula, the OST, the design of some enemies and bosses, power stance, the variety of locations and weapons... so many great stuff. However, you starts to automaticlly forget about the good stuff when you have to deal with clunky ass controlls, the bullshit number of enemies in most areas, the annoying hitboxes, re-skin bosses, FUCKING FRIGID OUTSKIRTS and so on.

You want to be strong, farm your way to the boss of any area until nobody stand between him/her/it and you, enemies stop respawning after awhile so you get to the boss fully equipped and of course you can upgrade yourself with tons of souls to spend before the fight.
