I don't use AI (ew tbh) but I do constantly shy away from drawing stuff I want to because I think I'm not good enough for it, or obsess over one detail not working out until I just give up. Honestly I'd love a podcast or something of you talking about art because every time I'm like "damn...yeh..."

The amount of times I’ve had to explain to people that like, there are references ONLINE you can use FOR FREE that ppl make that have CREDITS/names attached to them?!
Yet people are like “well ai is still good for references” sure bud even if it WAS (it isnt a good tool esp in the long run)
What happened to like?? Crediting those artists whose art got fed into a database like that?? What about finding out about artists online and finding new inspo in them just because you found a piece that was nice for ref??
Like… I just feel like so much is gonna be lost. When peopel get interviewed or asked abt their inspirations, why would you wanna respond with Midjourney?? Or some robot?? Wouldn’t you wanna be able to credit those artists and photographers and stock image models and-Oooooh it just. Yeah. It grinds my gears.

I personally don’t use many references when I draw but that’s because that’s just my nuance and my personal comfort. Maybe I’ll use some 3D models I end up posing, or ref off of a few works of art from artists online/ model runway high fashion type stuff… But I’m not focused on growth and getting better as much as I am just.. drawing what I enjoy. Whatever that might be. If I can’t find a ref for the specific idea I have I just work with what I know and it seems to work like a charm!! So… 🤷
But sometimes it doesn’t work out like a charm, either, and that’s okay. Phew okay, essay over!! Thank you again!
AGREEED TOTALLY!! esp with the finding artists by looking for refs! tahts how i found one of my fave artists that im trying to emulate in my video! like literally you can find so many cool and NEW things that can inspire you if you just.. like opened google and put in some effort to try and find the sources ( google image reverse search is your friend!!!).

Was Jungle Boy a victim or ex-member of Christian Cage's Patriarchy Cult? Also, I didn't know Bob Peak drew a West Side Story poster. They should show that poster more bcs the ones I mostly seen before were the minimalistic red and black one.
Anyway, besides mood boards or multiple references, I remember my professor made assignments for us to use collages we made as reference for our drawing. It was fun to make. Collecting references can be fun and often times I ended up saving so many on my Pinterest lol. There were times that references I collected on Pinterest months ago were helpful when I need them.
I do need to draw more instead of worrying on perfection and just have fun with the process. You only live once! YOLO 🤣Thank you for the video 💖

The thing about finding reference being a skill is something I had never considered before! I'm QUITE OFTEN encouraging my fellow artist brothers to use reference. My younger brother was historically resistant to the foraging in reference forest.
In the past year I've been slowly reworking my approach ...looking for things for him every now and then, telling him the tips and tricks i've learned out on the field, explaining my process +other methods, where to find them ,,,all the things. I think explaining the process and methods of finding and using reference is a lot more helpful than when I'd just explain why it's important to use them .
now he's found a method that works for him (the collage style approach). I don't know how much I really influenced this change, but either way I see this as an absolute win.
