Good video and good advice. I have a Black & Decker Lawn Hog that I've been using for 12 years straight. My preventative maintenance includes hosing off the bottom of the mower deck after every mow, sharpen the blades at the start and halfway through each mowing season, and remove the cover housing at the end of the season to blow out all the grass and dirt accumulation. I also pull out the brushes and clean them at the end of the season. I've had to replace the fan and blade insulator once. Other than that, it still runs perfect on all original parts. I've gone through multiple extension cords in the past decade, but they're cheap and disposable. Once the blade goes, I'll have to buy another mower because the blade for this mower model is discontinued. Electric mowers will last a long time if you give them them some basic preventative maintenance.

I have an old B&D plugin mower that stopped working. I tested the rectifer, seems fine which also means the switch is fine. Blade/motor turns easily. Brushes are worn to half-inch, but not showing any unusual wear, and their wires are connected. The magnetic collar inside is not a complete circle, but two half circles, which I assume is what was installed. Can the motor die without showing any issues aside from not working?

Debris Has Been Piling Up In Holes forever (Needs Cover Plug) So I Can’t Get Any Type Screw Bit On Head , Can’t Tell If It’s The Same Torx Screws Or?.. Drill Them Out? To Access Connector and Connector Wires

I have an electric wire lawn mower. Black and Decker it was strong at first but now very weak. It still powers up but now a weak cut. Any suggestions?

This is a catastrophic failure of the electric motor. Be sure to keep the mower clean and try to keep all of the grass and debris from getting to the motor. Take the mower shroud off and clean it up!

Question for ya, I hit something with my cordless electric push mower the other day, it stopped dead. Now when I run it sounds like a gas power mower but it still cuts fine? Should I get a new one or try to see of something come loose between the blade mount (blades are in good shape) and motor? Thanks

@@humancigarette7557 Try rotating the blade and see if you can find where the noise is coming from. Be sure to disconnect the battery first.

I think I might have burnt the motor, so one day I was mowing and suddenly it started slowing down and I decided that maybe if I hold it it would get unclogged and the bam 💥 it rattled and started smoking I quickly unplugged and it smelled like burnt plastic/rubber.Do u think I can still save it or is it gone

Check the bridge rectifier. It turns AC to DC to the motor. When it goes bad it blows breakers.

Just wanted to the thank your for your video. After watching your video, I could see that one of the magnets was cracked and that was what was causing the issues.

My Bosch rotak 40 corded lawnmower cuts out slowly (no not long grass) then after about a minute can restart then slowly cuts out again. Is it likely to be a motor thermal cut off issue, starter switch fault or something else?

I think I just experienced the same thing. I will take the lid off at a later date. But I was wondering how much the motors were for replacement, and where to order one?

Try looking at the small carbon brushes electric mowers typically have 2 and they wear down with use. If theyre worn down to the nub then they aren’t making contact with the motor and a connection isn’t formed.

Is it worth replacing motors or is it cheaper and a better use of time to just replace the whole mower?

symptoms of my electric lawnmower motor:
-doesn't start but when I tap the center shaft lightly with a hammer it almost starts, as I jostle the unit it continues to almost start
-when I wack the center shaft, then it starts and runs until it cools down

Could the bridge rectifier be taken off, connect a battery and have a cordless mower? It is a dc motor, right? ...assuming the motor wasn't broken I mean.

I have the same problem as Mas Cerveri: I have the orange cover cove. I removed the 2 bottom torx screws but wen i try to remove the top & middle holes that you removed screws from the bottom ov the cavity seem solid. There appears to be no screrw down in there. No way to remove from underneath. What am i missing? I looked with flashight and magnifying lense...its solid black down in the hole.

Electric motors need lotsa attention. There's probably some with sealed bearings but bushings need to be clean and not bind or heat will build quickly and lead to failure. Personally, i like the IDEA of a plug-in tool. No batteries to go bad. Unfortunately many are made with the cheapest parts.

Thank you so much for the video. Really well done. Just a question please... when you pointed the positive and negative of the motor, at the minute 5:10, if I measure with the multi-meter between positive and negative when the switch is off, I expect to find open circuit, correct? In my case I measure 0 ohm which makes me think the motor is gone. Is it a correct statement? Thank you again

Also, the blade is installed incorrectly. The rubber blade insulator is supposed to sit between the blade and the metal spacer.
Also, there are several blades broken off of the fan.
This likely contributed to the motor failure.

I found a Black & Decker electric I found in the rubbish once It had a note on it about possibly needing a new motor. When I took the top off thing the thing was packed with leaves and grass. The one you just took apart is quite clean in comparison. Worked for a few minutes and then I put it back together and sent it back to the curb. I'll stick with my trusty gas mower.
