We gotta be pessimistic since we haven't seen a new game in almost two decades. But if it ever does, there is no likelier time than now because the Switch is so successful that it might be worthwhile for Nintendo to give the franchise another try.
The fzero stages in mario kart are a very love hate relationship to me. They’re some of the most fun courses in the game, but the fact they’re not from an f zero game hurts.
One thing you missed about the Mario Kart 8 F-Zero representation: if you have a Captain Falcon amiibo you can unlock a Captain Falcon costume for your mii.
I never thought that much about fzero but it looks like I’ve been missing out. It looks like a really fun and interesting series. Too bad it hasn’t had a game in forever, it has so much personality
As a longtime fan since childhood of the F-Zero series, it really makes me happy to see that all different kinds of content creators are starting to experience F-Zero and I couldn't be happier. I own and have played every game in the franchise. And thanks to a small arcade in the little town I live in they actually had a cabinet of F-Zero ax that I was able to play! :D Both part one and part two of this series was great and I had a big smile on my face from start to finish. Of course I know just about everything there is to know about these games and then some but it's always interesting to hear enthusiastic passion for a game franchise from another person's perspective. Thank you for taking the time to experience this series and I'm really glad you've enjoyed your play through of this underrated Gem of Nintendo's Library. ( though not to be that guy but... here I go anyway ) When it comes to Mario Kart 8 at the very end you did a good job explaining all of the unlockables for the Mario Kart series there was one thing you forgot: If a player has the Captain Falcon Super Smash Brothers amiibo they are able to unlock the captain Falcon Mii Outfit. (available in both the original Mario Kart 8 and Deluxe) I really hope that eventually Nintendo will either make a brand-new f-zero title or at least go through the effort of making an F-Zero collection package kind of game that includes every single f-zero title including a combination of both GX/AX put together, also the completed version of BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 and of course the expansion pack version of F-Zero. Not only is this serious my favorite racing franchise of all time but it will forever my most loved and cherished Nintendo franchise of all time with StarFox just below that. ( "See you again! Hahaha..." - Mr.Zero after the staff credits of F-Zero X. )
Indeed the music always sounded incorrect in GP Legend. I assume it was due to lack of optimization. They either ran out of channels or CPU cycles. Climax doesn't have these issues, as you mentioned.
F-Zero just has to come back! there's so much untapped potential. HD, online, track and car editors to play and share tracks and cars, a new story mode with maybe a yakuza style gameplay in it (since C. Falcon has been fighting for a long time now and is a bounty hunter.) I just wish that nintendo would see it the same way. plus the switch is THE console to introduce new players to the series. I recently played F-Zero X on NSO with a friend and his first response was "this is awesome, why doesn't nintendo make a new one?" and I ask myself the same every year.

i want a new f-zero that takes place in the main timeline but re-introduces the anime exclusive characters with altered histories like how the anime revised the legacy characters to better fit the story it wants to tell. example: ryu suzak, a detective from the 21st century brought forward in time due to an accident during his final case. he was chasing a criminal during a brutal thunderstorm. lightning struck at just the right time as ryu was going at just fast enough to leap through time, though ryus car was vaporized in the process, ryu was unharmed. yah a bit of back to the future injected. he'd be recruited by the galaxy police due to his experience, and from a distance captain falcon sees a worthy successor to his name...
Awesome. If you're interested, there are some AG racing games that take inspiration from F-Zero(but mostly Wipeout), such as Fast RMX and Redout. The latter got a sequel recently!
@@Niosai Nintendo takes innovation a bit too seriously, they said that they run out of ideas of how to evolve F-zero compared to Mario Kart. It's a good think that F-zero came out before Mario Kart otherwise the series probably would have been even more dead that it already is.

Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed they had to sacrifice graphic detail to order for F-zero x run at 60 FPS. Remember how Sonic Unleashed has flawed frame rate on an HD console???? I'm worried that an HD f-zero would suffer the same fate. You know how some people complain about Starfox zero's graphical detail???? Like with F-zero x Miyamoto confirmed that they had to make some sacrifices to have be had in order for the game to run at 60FPs. The good news is that racing games that are not Mario Kart do exist.

The F-Zero games have a niche that Mario Kart just cannot replicate: going incredibly fast. The adrenaline of that, along with the aggressive driving is something MK does not have.
Thank you so much for looking at the F-Zero series. It's one of my favorite Nintendo franchises and it's sad to see it being ignored for so long. Hope we'll get another game someday, and maybe F-Zero Climax when we inevitably get GBA games on NSO.
An official English translation for Climax would be cool! I think they did something similar recently for the original Mother for NES so it's not unheard of
@@Niosai The difference is though that Mother 1 already had a finished localization, it was just never released until 2015. Heck, the version used in Mother 1+2 was even based on that previously unreleased version. Climax would require a new translation, which I'd love to see, but I kinda doubt it would happen.
You're definitely right about holding the Gamepad sideways as being awkward. I inadvertently pressed so many buttons while holding it sideways. Still, the fact that you have to do it all in one run makes it one of the hardest in Nintendo Land. It actually piqued my interest in F-Zero, since I had never played it before.
Nice video, F-Zero Climax is my all time favorite game and I love the F-Zero series, it was one of the series that got me into researching game history and i collect for it, so watching part 1 & 2 put a smile on my face
Mario Kart 8 really does provide proof of concept for a Nintendo Kart mashup game much like Smash but just with vehicles, and if that ever happens if like F-Zero to shine there are well. My favorite F-Zero game is Maximum Velocity, as I think it's the most skill intensive portable one and I lived the cars. I also 100% completed it as a kid and it was one of my first.
While Wipeout is sort of similar to F-Zero, I do think that series deserves its own video. I’ve heard from someone that it’s actually a substantially different experience.
Who would have imagined that one year later after this, there would now be a new F-Zero game with online multiplayer. Sure, it is based off the original SNES game, but from what I've seen, it does feel much more modern (like a high-resolution remake with polished controls and a few new things from future games like the spin attack and boosting off your health) and also seems like a blast of insanity to fight by bumping off other REAL racers on the road. I sure didn't, but it will be neat to look forward to what are your thoughts on that (if you aren't busy recording other games, which is likely...and if you even own a Nintendo Switch with the NSO subscription in first place because that's the only way you can play it lol)
You might recognize me from the previous video in the series, and again, you nailed it! I wholeheartedly agree that GP Legend’s soundtrack is subpar compared to the rest of the series. The percussion ‘falling out’ when racing is due to the audio limitations of the GBA, and happens on original hardware. I will point out that GP Legend is far far easier than Maximum Velocity. Even on GP’s master difficulty most people can lead the pack lap 1. On a different note, check out the F-Zero Jazz Album. It was released only in Japan in 1990 and it is surprisingly good. Finally you did part two! Good thing I didn't have to wait very long because I saw part 1 a couple nights ago LOL. Thank goodness you used the English patched version of Climax for your review, can't stand all the Japanese that we can't understand. Thankfully you gave GP Legend some praise especially over Maximum Velocity. I really appreciate it. And on the subject yes the bits of story is actually based off of the anime. And for the record while I'm not too crazy about 4Kiids' works, GP Legend is the most underappreciated and should be valued more; there's a lot of lost media surrounding it too and I hope Nintendo will get off their balls and give it the proper localization it deserves. I think GP Legend has some of the best music in the series. The music itself is good but it gets held back by it's hardware. There aren't enough sound channels to play the music and sound effects at the same time, so when you hit a booster you partly lose some of the BGM. Regardless GP Legend has some exclusive hits like Lightning, Mist Flow and Illusion which are all really intense. If you listen to it from a downloaded file it's sounds much better.
I can accept the hardware limitations screw a little bit the tracks, but come on, GP Legend has the best music in the entire series. I was sad when I heard he didn't like the music.

Toshihiro Nagoshi has expressed interest in revisiting the series after he produced GX with Amusement Vision. He left Sega last year so who knows what's in store 👀
The GP legend anime is not cannon, and the game's story mode doesn't follow the anime, idk what they did when it came to that. Thank you for covering every game!
daddy miyamoto has stated many times that they won't make a new one unless they have a new idea for the series, when it comes to main line games of any series they don't wanna make a new unless either A they're obligated by a contract to make a new or B they have a new idea of how to play it, the last confirmed mainline game was being worked on by the old burnout series crew but they were too busy on a specific game so they didn't take it. unfortunately this is one of those games that they DONT have to invent a new wheel to make us happy, they can keep everything the same just updated and stuff and we'd be happy but that's just how they usually like to roll
f-zero climax is based off of the second half of the anime. the dub stops at 15. there are 50 total episodes. climax has certain spoilery characters that all appear in the second half of the anime (berserker being a disguise that captain falcon uses after he fakes his death to infiltrate black shadows organization, clank hughs being ryus successor for the dragon bird, while ryu becomes captain falcons successor after the final battle in the anime caused him to go missing, all of which are unlockable.)
The Story Line vignettes are literally one-to-one summaries of each episode of F-Zero Densetsu (or F-Zero GP Legend if you will). The fact that I was able to tell after a brief glance at just the Scream From The Darkness one should *probably* clue you in to the fact that I'm an anime superfan, I've binged the whole series like 8 times ahahaha

I definitely plan on doing this, but there's a ton of Japanese-only games that I'm not sure have any translations, fan or otherwise. It's still in the plans, though :)
The F Zero anime, back in that time in the 00s where a lot of games got an anime and I heard about them through the anime like Kirby, Sonic, Power Stone, and Mega Man. I didn't start "hardcore gaming" until 2008. As for the F Zero dub, I know everyone dislikes 4kids dubs but I have a soft spot for them or mainly just their dub of Yugioh, the Yugioh dub felt like the actors knew what kind of show they were in and Eric Stuart as Kaiba insulting everyone was just hilarious. His insults are pretty amazing for a censored dub. I also think their opening of One Piece is just so damn funny even if their dub was so bad that it ruined any chance of me ever getting nostalgic over OP so that I would watch it later on like with Naruto and Bleach. All though this is coming from the guy who liked the Saint Seiya DiC dub as a kid so I am already pretty weird.
I think 4Kids has done a couple of decent dubs and the Yu-Gi-Oh! dub is legendary. I can't picture anyone else voicing those characters. That being said, I think dubs nowadays, in general, shouldn't change source material lmao
The best way to make F Zero GP Legend not feel slidey is to side attack in the direction you’re making a hard turn on, makes the game infinitely better
4:15 I think the music made for this game originally is quite fantastic actually, but the songs from other games in the franchise tend to be weak. The lack of percussion is an occasional problem throughout, the composer just ran out of channels in the GBA soundchip to use. I highly recommend listening to Lightning, Illusion, and Mist Flow for music. Also worth mentioning because it bugs me, but the Port Town song in GP Legend is like, really bad if you listen closely. The bass is out of tune, I swear.
Yeah, listening to the raw versions online is significantly better and actually has the percussion. Reminds me of Sonic Chronicles. Infamously bad music, but later discovered that the music was bad because it's missing a bunch of audio channels!
I watched the anime about two years ago without any rose-tinted glasses for F-Zero in general. If anyone ever watches it, check the comments for the final episode to try and find my review of it.
i think it has future and in the hands of the right person, it can come back, BIG. a game with all the tracks of the past and with the 2d ones reimagined into 3d would be amazing imo. as for the F-Zero inspired games: Ballistic NG (a game that mashes F-zero and Wipeout togheter, and is amazing to play, and with mod suport with f-zero stuff) , Super Pilot (A big nod to F-zero GX, and a good one at that... it is not One by one remake, but it's quite fun to play), Fast RMX (i think this one needs no introduction, it's out on the switch and you should take a look at it), Redout (the first game is a BLAST to play, it is real good with a great feel, and while the sequel is also good, imo is chaotic with the new mechanic wich you need to keep your eye on your heat gauge that is on the bottom part of the screen, since it is a real fast game that demands a lot of reflexes, i think that if the UI was positioned arround the craft like it was on the first game, it would make wonders for it. to me nothing beats the first game... but that's just me...), Pacer (more of a Wipeout game than an F-zero one, but it has the high octane action there, and the ships aren't quite as floaty as wipeout, honestly, it is worth checking out IMo...), GRIP combat racing (a more gritty take on the futuristic genre. the idea of this one is: what if F-zero meet Mad Max, there is wheeled vehicles, but to me the starts of the show are the Anti-gravity ones. the game is raw, visceral, and somtimes... frustrating... but in a good kind of way. also, you gonna need to learn to use the brakes on this game, so pratice it), TrailBlazers (this mashes two IPs of Nintendo Togheter: F-zero and Splatoon. believe it or not it works and it is fun to play. it is more of a slow one, but don't let it fool ya, it is still intense), Warp Drive (this one i can only recommend if you don't have any sensibility to flashing lights, it i a fun anti-grav game, and quite short, but it has a warping mechanic that diferentiates it form other games. it is from the same creators of TrailBlazers)
So I noticed this from the last video and I wanted to mention seeing it. The points thing is not from Mario Kart. They're both pulling that from the real world sports. F1, NASCAR, Indycar, and most other racing motorsports determine standings for a season with some type of point system.

What's worse than watching Nintendo ignore this franchise is watching them dust of Captain Falcon's corpse for Smash. It's like they're saying "Yeah we remember F-Zero, but we're not gonna do anything with it." It's become insulting at this point and to make it worse they have Falcon's scarf untucked in Smash, not only does it look ridiculous, that's how Blood Falcon wears it. With Captain it's tucked, Blood untucked. I swear Nintendo enjoys pissing off F-Zero fans.
not sure if you're taking requests or anything, but how about a shot at the resident evil franchise ? there's plenty of games there and they're all varied in between
4:24 In every level a lot of hi-hats and cymbals (wich really give a sense of speed in music) are simply just not there and they also lack slapping basslines for about 80-90% in every track. For example in Mute City the music track starts of with a bassline, but when the iconic melody starts the bass suddenly stops. It makes the OST sound really weird and unfinished.
Interestingly, it seems like they are there, you just can't hear them! I looked up a raw version online and found it with the missing tracks restored and it doesn't sound bad at all. Super weird, and honestly sucks for the composer because it probably makes them look worse and it most likely wasn't their fault ):

Bombing in Japan doesn't matter. Metroid has always failed there, they still make them, fire emblem for a long time, legend of Zelda for a long time, Luigi's mansion, dlc, crus'n, hell just home consoles. Most of what Nintendo has published over the past 30 years are things that Japan has hated. Up until the mid 2010's the u.s. is what's kept that company alive The problem is just no one wants to make it. They have tried finding outside developers to make one(showing they have maintained interest in publishing f-zero games), but they always get turned down. You just can't force people to make something they don't want to make, especially with Nintendo's thing of every new entery must have something new
IIRC, Climax had this "brillant" idea of having multiple UNLOCKABLE control schemes, and your standard option DIDN'T have the Brakes O_o. Yes, the default setting didn't have a Brake button, making some of the challenges impossible. You had to unlock a setting WITH the Brakes. It also felt like a budget title, as the cars' sprites had less animation details. We also had not many new cars :S
GP Legend the weakest music? Are you drunk bro? GP Legend and Climax have the BEST music the series can offer, check out the individual tracks, it probably IS a problem with your emulation becuase god damn this game has a banger OST

My favorite f-zero inspired game is Comsic challenge racing. Its on ios and android and it’s very similar to f-zero.
The Redout games. They are a fusion between wipEout and F-ZERO.
I HIGHLY recommend checking them out, the reachable speed is insane!

Nintendo will probably never make another F-Zero, but they should. I get that theyd rather focus on Mario Kart, but its just not the same...
Who would have imagined that one year later after this, there would now be a new F-Zero game with online multiplayer. Sure, it is based off the original SNES game, but from what I've seen, it does feel much more modern (like a high-resolution remake with polished controls and a few new things from future games like the spin attack and boosting off your health) and also seems like a blast of insanity to fight by bumping off other REAL racers on the road.
I sure didn't, but it will be neat to look forward to what are your thoughts on that (if you aren't busy recording other games, which is likely...and if you even own a Nintendo Switch with the NSO subscription in first place because that's the only way you can play it lol)
You might recognize me from the previous video in the series, and again, you nailed it! I wholeheartedly agree that GP Legend’s soundtrack is subpar compared to the rest of the series. The percussion ‘falling out’ when racing is due to the audio limitations of the GBA, and happens on original hardware. I will point out that GP Legend is far far easier than Maximum Velocity. Even on GP’s master difficulty most people can lead the pack lap 1.

Thank goodness you used the English patched version of Climax for your review, can't stand all the Japanese that we can't understand. Thankfully you gave GP Legend some praise especially over Maximum Velocity. I really appreciate it. And on the subject yes the bits of story is actually based off of the anime.
And for the record while I'm not too crazy about 4Kiids' works, GP Legend is the most underappreciated and should be valued more; there's a lot of lost media surrounding it too and I hope Nintendo will get off their balls and give it the proper localization it deserves. I think GP Legend has some of the best music in the series. The music itself is good but it gets held back by it's hardware. There aren't enough sound channels to play the music and sound effects at the same time, so when you hit a booster you partly lose some of the BGM. Regardless GP Legend has some exclusive hits like Lightning, Mist Flow and Illusion which are all really intense. If you listen to it from a downloaded file it's sounds much better.
I can accept the hardware limitations screw a little bit the tracks, but come on, GP Legend has the best music in the entire series. I was sad when I heard he didn't like the music.

daddy miyamoto has stated many times that they won't make a new one unless they have a new idea for the series, when it comes to main line games of any series they don't wanna make a new unless either A they're obligated by a contract to make a new or B they have a new idea of how to play it, the last confirmed mainline game was being worked on by the old burnout series crew but they were too busy on a specific game so they didn't take it. unfortunately this is one of those games that they DONT have to invent a new wheel to make us happy, they can keep everything the same just updated and stuff and we'd be happy but that's just how they usually like to roll

f-zero climax is based off of the second half of the anime. the dub stops at 15. there are 50 total episodes. climax has certain spoilery characters that all appear in the second half of the anime (berserker being a disguise that captain falcon uses after he fakes his death to infiltrate black shadows organization, clank hughs being ryus successor for the dragon bird, while ryu becomes captain falcons successor after the final battle in the anime caused him to go missing, all of which are unlockable.)
also i'd like to point out captain falcons name in the anime is andy. as a man named andy, that makes me happy.
The Story Line vignettes are literally one-to-one summaries of each episode of F-Zero Densetsu (or F-Zero GP Legend if you will).
The fact that I was able to tell after a brief glance at just the Scream From The Darkness one should *probably* clue you in to the fact that I'm an anime superfan, I've binged the whole series like 8 times ahahaha

I definitely plan on doing this, but there's a ton of Japanese-only games that I'm not sure have any translations, fan or otherwise. It's still in the plans, though :)
The F Zero anime, back in that time in the 00s where a lot of games got an anime and I heard about them through the anime like Kirby, Sonic, Power Stone, and Mega Man. I didn't start "hardcore gaming" until 2008.
As for the F Zero dub, I know everyone dislikes 4kids dubs but I have a soft spot for them or mainly just their dub of Yugioh, the Yugioh dub felt like the actors knew what kind of show they were in and Eric Stuart as Kaiba insulting everyone was just hilarious. His insults are pretty amazing for a censored dub. I also think their opening of One Piece is just so damn funny even if their dub was so bad that it ruined any chance of me ever getting nostalgic over OP so that I would watch it later on like with Naruto and Bleach. All though this is coming from the guy who liked the Saint Seiya DiC dub as a kid so I am already pretty weird.
I think 4Kids has done a couple of decent dubs and the Yu-Gi-Oh! dub is legendary. I can't picture anyone else voicing those characters. That being said, I think dubs nowadays, in general, shouldn't change source material lmao

4:15 I think the music made for this game originally is quite fantastic actually, but the songs from other games in the franchise tend to be weak. The lack of percussion is an occasional problem throughout, the composer just ran out of channels in the GBA soundchip to use. I highly recommend listening to Lightning, Illusion, and Mist Flow for music.
Also worth mentioning because it bugs me, but the Port Town song in GP Legend is like, really bad if you listen closely. The bass is out of tune, I swear.
Yeah, listening to the raw versions online is significantly better and actually has the percussion. Reminds me of Sonic Chronicles. Infamously bad music, but later discovered that the music was bad because it's missing a bunch of audio channels!

I watched the anime about two years ago without any rose-tinted glasses for F-Zero in general. If anyone ever watches it, check the comments for the final episode to try and find my review of it.
i think it has future and in the hands of the right person, it can come back, BIG. a game with all the tracks of the past and with the 2d ones reimagined into 3d would be amazing imo.
as for the F-Zero inspired games:
Ballistic NG (a game that mashes F-zero and Wipeout togheter, and is amazing to play, and with mod suport with f-zero stuff) , Super Pilot (A big nod to F-zero GX, and a good one at that... it is not One by one remake, but it's quite fun to play),
Fast RMX (i think this one needs no introduction, it's out on the switch and you should take a look at it),
Redout (the first game is a BLAST to play, it is real good with a great feel, and while the sequel is also good, imo is chaotic with the new mechanic wich you need to keep your eye on your heat gauge that is on the bottom part of the screen, since it is a real fast game that demands a lot of reflexes, i think that if the UI was positioned arround the craft like it was on the first game, it would make wonders for it. to me nothing beats the first game... but that's just me...),
Pacer (more of a Wipeout game than an F-zero one, but it has the high octane action there, and the ships aren't quite as floaty as wipeout, honestly, it is worth checking out IMo...),
GRIP combat racing (a more gritty take on the futuristic genre. the idea of this one is: what if F-zero meet Mad Max, there is wheeled vehicles, but to me the starts of the show are the Anti-gravity ones. the game is raw, visceral, and somtimes... frustrating... but in a good kind of way. also, you gonna need to learn to use the brakes on this game, so pratice it),
TrailBlazers (this mashes two IPs of Nintendo Togheter: F-zero and Splatoon. believe it or not it works and it is fun to play. it is more of a slow one, but don't let it fool ya, it is still intense),
Warp Drive (this one i can only recommend if you don't have any sensibility to flashing lights, it i a fun anti-grav game, and quite short, but it has a warping mechanic that diferentiates it form other games. it is from the same creators of TrailBlazers)
So I noticed this from the last video and I wanted to mention seeing it. The points thing is not from Mario Kart. They're both pulling that from the real world sports. F1, NASCAR, Indycar, and most other racing motorsports determine standings for a season with some type of point system.

What's worse than watching Nintendo ignore this franchise is watching them dust of Captain Falcon's corpse for Smash. It's like they're saying "Yeah we remember F-Zero, but we're not gonna do anything with it." It's become insulting at this point and to make it worse they have Falcon's scarf untucked in Smash, not only does it look ridiculous, that's how Blood Falcon wears it. With Captain it's tucked, Blood untucked. I swear Nintendo enjoys pissing off F-Zero fans.

4:24 In every level a lot of hi-hats and cymbals (wich really give a sense of speed in music) are simply just not there and they also lack slapping basslines for about 80-90% in every track. For example in Mute City the music track starts of with a bassline, but when the iconic melody starts the bass suddenly stops. It makes the OST sound really weird and unfinished.
Interestingly, it seems like they are there, you just can't hear them! I looked up a raw version online and found it with the missing tracks restored and it doesn't sound bad at all. Super weird, and honestly sucks for the composer because it probably makes them look worse and it most likely wasn't their fault ):

Bombing in Japan doesn't matter. Metroid has always failed there, they still make them, fire emblem for a long time, legend of Zelda for a long time, Luigi's mansion, dlc, crus'n, hell just home consoles. Most of what Nintendo has published over the past 30 years are things that Japan has hated. Up until the mid 2010's the u.s. is what's kept that company alive
The problem is just no one wants to make it. They have tried finding outside developers to make one(showing they have maintained interest in publishing f-zero games), but they always get turned down. You just can't force people to make something they don't want to make, especially with Nintendo's thing of every new entery must have something new

IIRC, Climax had this "brillant" idea of having multiple UNLOCKABLE control schemes, and your standard option DIDN'T have the Brakes O_o. Yes, the default setting didn't have a Brake button, making some of the challenges impossible. You had to unlock a setting WITH the Brakes. It also felt like a budget title, as the cars' sprites had less animation details. We also had not many new cars :S
I actually figured out that if you mash the shoulder buttons you can kinda sorta "brake" for the challenges lol
