    The neat thing about Raging Blast 2 is the dialouge interactions. Depending on what actions you do with certain characters, you can essentially recreate entire Dragon Ball Z sagas just like how they were and that's a bunch of fun.

    Okay, this is a slight nitpick but I remember distinctively that you could totally skip transformations on Budokai Tenkaichi 3 if you had enough energy meter and doing a slightly different button combination. Like, holding left and then pressing R3 could make Goku go from base form to Super Saiyajin 2 anda stuff like that. So it's not something introduced in Raging Blast.

    Ultimate Tenkaichi's "fighting" mechanics felt like something out of a modern non-serious arcade game with how simplified but button mashy it encourages you to play. Most of the strategy/skill comes from whether or not you can play rock paper scissors well and how well can you manage your ki in case you guess wrong.

    Respectfully, I'm going to defend RB2. I had played and seen the Dragon Ball Z story so many times by the release of this game that I'm happy they gave us a way to unlock stuff and progress that wasn't reliant on the story. The gameplay was superb and the art style still holds up today. I personally have a soft spot for the game because of the "tournaments" me and my buddies held. Don't even get me started on how cool the roster was for this game (although several other DB games had waaayyy better rosters).
    I personally didn't really care about story in DB games until Battle of Z because of the ability to play an antagonist route & God Goku 🤣. Then XenoVerse comes along with multiple race and gender character creation, an rpg style leveling, and new characters to guide you through the story.

    A thing Raging Blast did over Tenkaichi was "signature skills". It was an extra character specific attack like punch or basic ki blasts. It wasn't powerful and just a single hit but some had great utility like Piccolo quickly stretches his arm to pull an opponent back into melee range, Metal Cooler had this teleport one that would have you appear anywherr the enemy is for a quick strike but if it was blocked it left you vulnerable, Vegeta has a quick ki blast barrage that you could combo into, others had stunning attacks, etc

    You could also jump transformations in Tenkaichi 3 if you had enough blast stocks, you could choose which form based on the directional output you gave while hitting the transformation button. So R3 and right on the d-pad would give SS2 and so on I believe

  • @sentinel3541

    In budokai tenkaichi 3 doing a rush combo super attack ( cutscenes where your character do a combo to your opponent like goku meteor smash) will launch the opponent always in the same direction and replace both players in the center of the map ( or at a specific spot predetermined).
    Also in tenkaichi 3 you could also select the level of transformation, from base to ssj3 by just pressing on the d-pad a direction, tho it consumes more energy charge.

    Ultimate tenkaichi had good graphics and the create a character feature i loved a lot. The fighting mechanics were a bit boring but the ultimates looked cool and was animated well imo. Also the fact that some hairstyles changed when going super saiyan with your created character was so cool (something xenoverse 2 can learn from, thanks to modders for creating the option tho) and changing character aura and fighting styles was amazing. I replayed this game multiples times and enjoyed it everytime. Its a weird game that locks u in somehow.

    Fun Fact:
    To engage fans and follow reviews on the Tenkaichi series’ gameplay complexity , Spike wanted to create a reboot of the Tenkaichi franchise for next-gen consoles that was much simpler and accessible.
    Even the marketing was entirely focused on it being a Tenkaichi! So you’re not wrong! It IS a Tenkaichi game, in fact it’s a reboot of Tenkaichi with additions! :)
    Also, Ultimate Tenkaichi kicked off the lost era of Dragon Ball games. Was a very very bad period of 3-4 years where the community received games that were very low in quality. Those games were:
    • Ultimate Tenkaichi
    • Dragon Ball Z for Kinect
    • Budokai HD Collection (not new at all, which disappointed some fans because Kenji Yamamoto’s OST wasn’t included, and Budokai 2 was not included)
    • Dragon Ball Z Battle of Z
    2011 was when Tenkaichi died because Spike kept following reviews that still focused on accessibility after Raging Blast which makes the gameplay of UT rock-paper-scissors.
    One fan to truly thank for Dragon Ball games’ return to quality is a man by the name of Nostal/Treevax who was responsible for creating a lengthy design document of the Raging Blast 3 project which was presented to some producers of the Dragon Ball games. His design document included gameplay references, art styles, even references from Dragon Ball Online!!
    After that, history was made with the creation of Dragon Ball Xenoverse!! The producers used many concepts that Treevax presented, picked the right developer (Dimps) and things rolled!

    I honestly wouldn't make a point against Raging Blast 2 for not having a traditional story mode. A lot of Dragon Ball games retread the same story over and over, so having an arcade-y type mode that is to the point is a nice change of pace.

      I love RB2 to death, but it has a few problems with it's combat system. Things like infinites and exploitable bugs have made it less popular than BT2, BT3 and RB1 (believe it or not) in the competitive Tenkaichi community. I was shocked initially when I was told RB1 had a better combat system than RB2 and while I'm just a casual scrub who prefers the million different combo extensions of RB2 I can now understand some of it's flaws.

    • @Vegeta291
      @Vegeta291 2 года назад +2

      @@TotallyAmSam RB1 can't be better than RB2 though because RB1 has less combo set ups/strings. RB1 doesn't even have juggling. So less can't mean better. RB2 felt like a step up in every direction except single player content

    • @TotallyAmSam
      @TotallyAmSam 2 года назад +1

    3:00 At least in Tenkaichi 3 (I haven't played the second game in years so I don't remember well) you could transform into any form directly given you had enough "points" (I don't remember how those were called, the ones you need for the support abilities and the transformations). So, for example, if you were playing as Goku from the Bu saga you could press R3 to turn into a Super Saiyan, Left+R3 to turn into super Saiyan 2, Up+R3 to turn into super Saiyan 3 and if I'm not mistaken, you also needed those combinations to fuse with Vegeta during the tag team battles. (I don't know if the combinations are correct but they were something along those lines)

    3:00 actually in Tenkaichi 3 at least you CAN decide which form you transform to from base. You can go straight to ssj3 Goku from base for example, it just costs more of your blast stocks. You do this by holding a direction on the d-pad corresponding to the transformation you want, while you are clicking the thumb stick to transform. This is also how you do fusions mid-match.

    • @saiyanfang1047
      @saiyanfang1047 2 года назад

      you have to slowly pull down the transformation thing though for fusion

  • @icemanlj2k7

    You could actually skip transformations in Tenkaichi 2 (and 3, maybe? I never played it). Depending on how you move the analog stick during the transformation. So holding the left stick to the right while pressing the transformation button would skip Goku straight to SS3.
    I also believe you could so straight to certain transformations in Budokai 3 if your Ki meter was full. So you could transform from base Goku to SS4 if you had a full Ki meter

    2:58 You can also choose a form in Tenkaichi 3. With L3+Up you go to the strongest form, and you can go down a form with L3+down. L3+left or right allows you to fuse if you have the other half of the fusion in your team. And the direction determines whether you use Potara or regular fusion for Goku and Vegata

  • @mbatistas
    @mbatistas 2 года назад

    2:57 you can do that in Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Never played wii before, but on PS2 the prompt is R3 + left analog. Depending on the direction, you can skip transformations like going directly to super saiyan 3. R3 + backwards usually is to revert to base form, but all cam revert to base like Freeza and oozaru saiyans. It's all in combo menus, along with fusions.
    4:02 Budokai Tenkaichi 3 also has specific dialog, but only in the intro and ending of a fight, like Goku (mid) super saiyan says something like "I won't forgive you" to Freeza.
    15:56 Holding R3 + analog direction can also use fusion, it also requires specific characters and the direction changes the fusion like between Gotenks base, super saiyan and super saiyan 3 or Vegeto base, super saiyan and Gogeta. Different versions of the same character don't work like Goku (early) can't do fusion with Vegeta (second form). You can even get two Vegeto in the same team on versus mode.

    the dialog in Raging Blast 2 during vs is the story. If you make base Goku fight Scouter Vegeta they'll talk through the whole fight, doing certain moves and damage also gives dialog. For example if you dodge an attack from Nail as first form Frieza he'll say "Oh my there are so many with a death wish on this planet whatever will I do?" go Raging Soul as Frieza while fighting Nail he'll say "My Powerlevel is 530,000 but have no fear I don't intend to go full power on you" almost kill Nail as Frieza and he'll say "So this is all 42,000 can do?" and there's loads of other examples. the fight between Majin Vegeta and SSJ2 Goku probably has the most dialog or 2nd form Cell and Super Vegeta

    Here's some neat voice acting trivia:
    Raging Blast - This is the last piece of media to feature the voice of the late great Brice Armstrong as he retired from Voice acting in 2009, and as of January 10, 2020 he passed away assumedly of natural causes at the age of 84, Rest in piece, Legend.
    This is also the first Dragon Ball game to feature Travis Willingham as the voice Cell.
    This marks the last Dragon Ball game to feature the Original Z voice cast.
    And as an extra tidbit, Mike McFarlane voices Dodoria in this game instead of Chris Forbis.
    Tenkaichi Tag Team - This is the first Dragon Ball game to Feature the DBZ Kai voice cast.
    Raging Blast 2 - While the Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans OVA itself is not dubbed into English (for whatever dumbass reason) the unlockable villain Hatchiyack is, he is voiced by Chris Sabat.
    Ultimate Tenkaichi - Strangely enough, even though this game predominantly uses the Kai voice cast for the story mode, all of the in engine cutscenes reuse the audio from Raging Blast, which is as stated before, uses the original Z cast. So in animated cutscenes it's Colleen Clinkenbeard
    as Gohan but in 3D cutscenes it's Stephanie Nadolny.

    While not a great game, Ultimate Tenkaichi is not nearly as bad as people claim it is. At first I did see it as nothing more then a rock paper scissors simulator but I eventually realized it's more like a fast paced strategy game. Different moves have different ranges as well as different cost to damage ratios and since you can't just charge ki, you have to set up your moveset to play around it. Like for my custom character, I would put low cost moves on base and the strong high cost moves on Super Saiyan with one slot each dedicated to long range and short range. The spirit gauge also has to be played around in a specific way since its basically a get out of jail free card. You do things like use weak moves to burn their gauge, do a heavy combo to build ki and then blast them with a strong super when they have no gauge. It is surprisingly fun when you know how the game really works.

    As one of the top 100 players in DBZ ultimate tenkaichi... yes the game is fun but of course it's not as the rest of the games, I liked the whole rock paper scissors thing, playing mind games with your opponent... but unlike Budokai 3, the rock paper scissor was literally for everything which got repetitive and annoying... what broke the fighting style wasn't just that... it was the boost mode, for those who don't know, boost mode is when u press down to charge your ki to the max, then press up... in this mode you break the game rules, no longer you have to play the guessing game as every hit give u a free combo, ur spirit gauge increases faster and so on... boost mode is an instant win basically, the game tried to fix this by making it that when ur boost mode is over, u can't charge ur ki to the max again, which means with every boost mode u lose a defensive option against a special... useless because as I've said .. ur gonna win so whatever, game looked and sounded amazing, one of the best DBZ presentations, amazing CaC mode with story and all... but yeah the core thing which is the fights is bad... also side note... Vegito is the best in the game because if you dash quickly then attack ur opponent you will clip right behind them every time which let's you skip the rock paper scissors.... so yeah vegito (or vegito style for your hero) is boost mode without boost mode... vegito can also stun your opponent by stopping the square (or pink) combo in the middle, leading your opponent to be stunned and u get more damage, guaranteeing the win even more

    I loved raging blast. One of the reasons is because you could make some absolutely broken custom decks with certain characters. Specifically tien. You could buff the heck out of his ultimate attack to kill the opponent in only 4 to 5 shots (remember, you could shoot like, 8 or 9 times at full health) and you could make it so your super/ultimate attacks couldn't be blocked. So if you hit the opponent at all, they just die. It was so fun
