    This is absolutely beautiful to me. I Don't imagine this car would be very much fun to drive. If I remember right it probably has a 25 HP engine, Cable brakes, non synchro transmission. Up shifting is probably not too bad but down shifting is probably about like guessing the winning lotto numbers. It most likely has a top speed of about 60 miles per hour, but about 45 mph would be as fast as I would want to go in it because of the extremely primitive cable brakes, and you know what I would love every single second of it. I'm so glad that this little beauty is still here with us after all these years.

      Apparently it belonged to a German composer. Gifted to him by the Nazi party for creating anthems and marches for the benefit of the Führer and the Reich. One of the few civilians to actually receive a vehicle. The orignal civilian initiative was to collect Pfennige until you had enough to purchase a stamp. The stamp went into a booklet. Once you collected 3 booklets full of stamps, you could inform the government and collect your new KdF wagen.
      No one ever received one, because the government shifted the plant from civilian to military production. The only civilian cars that were produced went to military officials, and a few hand picked civilians friendly to the Nazi Party.

      @@mfranzusan3014 Though it didn’t work out due to the war, the concept to build a car every working class family could afford (copied & pasted from Ford‘s Model T ~30 years earlier, of course) was great! Compare to the Weimarer Republik between 1918 and 1933, where the whole automotive industry was almost killed by political regulations. Again 10 years later, exactly that German automotive industry with exactly this car was the main engine of the West German „Wirtschaftswunder“ between 1948 and 1961.

      @@kriskross63 agreed. When the Allied Forces came in and resurrected the plant, it was one of the greatest benefits to the German people as well as government and industry, because it showed that with the right kind of help, you could get industry back on track.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.
    If I remember, it is the oldest complete regular production KdF Wagen (Beetle) in existence? They made pre-production prototypes in '39, giving them to party officials, VIP's, Hilter, etc.; then in '40 (I may be wrong?) they did not manufacture because Wolfsburg factory was not yet completed?
    So, then in '41, this car is the 20th to roll out of Wolfsburg. The 20th Beetle ever made (excepting the various prototypes & concept cars).

    • @Sternvogel007
      @Sternvogel007 2 года назад +1

      No, this car is not the oldest surviving KDF car of its kind. The Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg itself owns two examples of the KDF car, both dating from 1938. Two other KDF cars from 1939 are standing in private museums, one of them in Hamburg. Another KDF car from 1942 with genuine patina is still registered and is in private ownership in Germany: ruclips.net/video/uJ__3yTHwas/видео.html
