Nothing will ever compare to Freddie, of course, but Paul Rodgers was selected to front Queen by Freddie himself prior to his death. The power and compassion Paul puts into it, is a huge sign of respect to the greatest singer ever. RIP Freddie Mercury
As an impartial outsider only marginally of fan of either Queen or Bad Company I have to say this is an epic performance. I always knew Rodgers had a fantastic voice, but felt that Bad Company was never quite grandiose enough to back it. But this is a great combination. I fear that George Michael (if the rumors are true that it's his turn now) will turn my stomach.
Nowhere in my post did I say anything about Paul Rodgers was Freddie's idol. This was from Brian May several years back, that Freddie wanted Paul Rodgers. I don't usually keep archives of every single interview in the world.
Freddie only sang this song once and recorded it one take. Paul and Adam Lambert sang it way longer than Freddie did. but overall either one sound far batter than Elton John did. Elton is great at his own music but he could not sing any Queen song at all. his 1992 performance of this and Rhapsody were AWFUL
Paul Rodgers was Freddie's very favorite singer. He would have approved.

BoogyWoogyCreep this is way better than Elton John covering it. sorry but he sucked singing it shortly after Freddie died
