When I lived in Miami, I was robbed at gunpoint twice. My best tip is to trust your gut. If you feel something is wrong, it probably is. Don't rationalize yourself out of the feelings. Trust them. It's better to just react accordingly. It is a God-given form of situational awareness.
❤ Yes, have your keys in your hand and ready. ❤ I’d like to add, many key fobs have a panic button, use if needed, the noise may scare off a mischief maker.
Really good advice. We have a 2011 Honda CRV and when our granddaughter was young we set the key fob so one press only opened the drivers door, she is 19 years old now and my wife has kept that feature for her safety, mine too. When I worked as a lineman we were trained in CPR and one tip that has stuck with me is instead of saying to a group of people to call for help to pick out one person and point to them and say "you" call or go for help. We live in a retirement complex and I've notice that many forget to close their garage doors at night, so we made a check list that is on our pillows to make sure the doors are shut and locked, and we use a piece of wood that goes in the track of the patio door to make it harder to open. Thank you for these videos they are more important than ever!
I love all of your tips!! Also, my mother always did that when I was growing up as well - putting a broom stick, or something that fits in our sliding door track! Works great!! Thank you for sharing! ☺️
Backing into a parking spot is an excellent choice. It’s easier to back into a spot where nothing is moving, than to back into a lane where many things are moving. Plus an unobstructed view when you leave is always good.
Thank you for sharing your experience and advice, all of which is great, common-sense guidance! From experience, I would add that, in addition to always being prepared and situationally aware, we ladies have to be ready to think on our feet. I've now unfortunately had about three different encounters where a weird stranger was either lurking around or came near me making conversation/asking me if I lived alone or what my hotel room number was. By God's grace I was able to think on my feet to throw them off with a quick comment about my "husband" or "aunt and uncle" being inside the hotel/apartment (I do not like lying but in that life-threatening instance it was basically needed). When I felt super unsafe, I returned to the front desk for a different room/went a different direction to get out of potential harm's way. Stay aware and prayed up, walk/speak with confidence, and trust your gut so you can pivot as needed! 🙏🏽
Excellent. One tip that I offer women or anyone that may be traveling alone is to add a jacket and hat to the passenger seat of the vehicle. Maybe even to the backseat etc. It gives the appearance of multiple people traveling in that vehicle. Bonus tip. When checking into a hotel alone do not telegraph your room number by saying or mentioning your room number out loud in the lobby during check in. Ask the person at the desk not to say your room number out loud when they check you in. You can even have that request written on a slip of paper and just pass it to the desk clerk. They will often times honor your request. If they say it out loud ask them to reassign you. Ok ok. One last tip. If in doubt of your surroundings call a friend while navigating a sketchy situation. Side note DONT GET DISTRACTED by the conversation. Your friend should know and understand that you are calling for that reason to have a witness etc. So they need to be quiet unless you are asking them a question. If need be put your Bluetooth earbud in your ear and pretend to talk to someone. That’s a good way to avoid men. If approached just point at your earbud and keep talking and walk away.
Great tips!! All part of the mentality to "not be a victim" Be mindful. Be aware. Be smart. I want to add. While at a drive up ATM - keep your car in drive and your foot on the break. Don't put the car in park. That way if you are approached, hit the gas and flee.
You are a very intelligent and sensible young woman. Although I am many decades older, I find your content valuable for people of any age. I hope you will serve as a voice for younger generations, helping them pay attention to your insights and positive influence. You have a lovely spirit, and I admire those beautiful qualities that are so needed in today's world. ♥️👌
I'm from SoCal, the IE, and I was raised with all of these things in mind. Back in the 70's-80's we always went to LA, one wrong turn and it gets sketchy. Always have your head on a swivel :)
I am using another acct when typing this. I am Katie. While putting groceries into your vehicle, try to stand to the side so you dont get blocked in by the doors. If you need to run, you can get away. I had a truck that had "suicide" doors. Both the doors were open and i was blocked in, a man approached me asking for any change i could give him. I really didnt have any, and told him that. He didn't believe me, and started to yell at me swinging his arms and calling me all kinds of names. Luckily, my son who was about 25 was walking around from the drivers side, told me to get in the truck. Then he said, "Hey Man, what can I help you with?" (kinda like a friendly manly attitude)... the guy backed down, called me more names, and my son walked off abit and said, "ya, women are really something, aren't they" just getting him to get away from me. The guy seemed to have a bipolar attitude & calmed down a bit. My son didn't give him any money, but just a calm manly response that i think resoloved the possibility of a worse outcome for me that could have happened. Luckily my son walked away back to the store, then back to our truck. I think he just didn't want the guy to know we were together. Thank God for my son!!! Thank God we all were okay. I won't go to that "Wally World" ever again at dusk or at night by myself since.
I don't remember where I learned this. IF you truly feel uncomfortable somewhere and you need to go to your vehicle, or just in a store, have a wrist band with your keys attached, and put at least one key inbetween your fingers to be able to jab someone if they attempted to attack you. I've done this many times, just to feel safe. Also, before leaving the check out area, get your keys out in your hand before gping outside.
I have a clip on Mosaic Alarm on my purse 👛 that is really loud with flashing light. I am 76 and go out alone. I always park where I can pull out of a parking space. No fancy car or clothes or jewelry. Am aware of my surroundings. I don't go out at nite or scroll on my phone. Keeping your doors locked 🔒 getting in or out of your car is a must and when putting groceries in your 🚙.
Great video. Holidays are coming up, and there will be more crime. When I leave a place, I make sure that I am not on the phone. There are so many people on their phones. Check underneath the car. Get in the car. Lock the door. While leaving the parking lot make sure you are not following.
I suggested to my granddaughter, any time she feels uneasy, going to her car , press the remote and activate her car alarm. Van , black tinted windows on a car parked next to you, set it off!
Make sure you always let other's know your were abouts. Keep emergency note post in your home. Stay in contact with some while you are out 30 to 60 minutes call safety communication community's. Stay aware of your surroundings follow your instincts and use divine wisdom. Let someone know you are home safely after checking your environment inside out keep cell line on full percentage. This may seem a lot but it's part of life. Stay safe God bless. Thank you for sharing beautiful reminder, Amen.
Please be careful without proper training your attacker could take your protection away from you such as a taser or pepper spray and use it on you and if or where you wake up it could be very deadly people like that intended on hurting you or something worse so be careful some people are evil and don’t care about anyone’s life girl you have to be trained to deal with those nut cases.

Back into your parking spot or pull up so you can drive out instead of having to backup to get out of your parking spot.
Yes!! Excellent tip!!

Also checking into the backseat of your vehicle before you get in it, making sure the doors are locked as well
Great tip! Thank you!!
It is safer to shop earlier in the day. Parking is closer to the door. People who haunt the night with bad intentions are more likely to be sleeping.
Yes! Well said! Thank you 💛
😊I agree with you

All good tips. One thing I would add is to rehearse these scenarios. Use a blue pew or something to simulate responding to unexpected situations.
That is a good suggestion and tip! Thank you!
