Yeah, I am quite sick of "ALL VEHICLES, ALL THE TIME!" that has been the theme of all of LEGO's original Space IPs for soooo very long now. They argue that "boys want action" and thus, they must want vehicles but, I remember my LEGO-infused childhood quite vividly (many decades ago, though it was) and some of my favourite aspects of playing with Space LEGO was attacking/defending space bases, etc. My favourite sets that I owned (so, Galaxy Explorer excluded) were the Command Center, the Rocket Base and the one-man Starfighter (918). Two 'bases' and one vehicle. Maybe if there had been some 'space bases' for kids in LEGO's last few Space lines, they might have sold better. Can't say for certain, of course but, since they've been doing the "all vehicles, all the time" for so long now, maybe it's time to mix it up a bit? I mean, look at how popular the 'building' sets are in Ninjago. That theme started off "vehicle heavy" too, but then evolved. Perhaps it's time for Space to 'evolve' and revisit its roots...

I mean, yeah, they ended up (eventually) with the Volcano Lair and Knighton Castle, so I suppose I shouldn't complain too much but, I don't know...it just feels like the vehicles so dominated that theme, that the 'base' type sets get forgotten about quite easily. I forgot that the Knighton Castle set even existed in that theme, and I OWN a copy of it! LOL!

I quite like the idea of all of these themes being interconnected, because that's exactly how children play. They own a few sets across a few different themes, and no doubt have them interact with each other. I know I did. My Martians fought my Star Wars characters, my knights interacted with my Bionicle. It makes sense that monsters are using artifacts to summon dinosaurs that accidentally gets the attention of giant insect aliens, because that scenario was very likely thought up by a child somewhere. It's great.

Lego City had to deploy Alpha Team to defend themselves against the villains from Johnny Thunder and their army of Storm Troopers.

The Galaxy Squad aliens are my favorite out of all of LEGO Space's host of intergalactic fellows. I'm planning on army building them a bit so I can have them do battle against the Alien Conquest villains, who are my favorite aliens that are OUTRIGHT villains. Like you mentioned in the video, the alien bugs do seem like more of a neutral force, battling with Galaxy Squad over turf or because they shot first.
Regardless, I can't help but imagine that red buggoid to be the queen of the hive since it only appears in one set. Such a nice figure, too.

When I was younger I really liked lego space (space police, alien conquest) but I also like lego star wars as well. It's too bad to see that while lego still has some original themes (vidiyo, hidden side, monkie kid) they are mostly very gimmicky with some sort of app involved. I would love to see space back. The only source of true lego space right now is lego creator and lego city. But a few better original themes to replace themes like vidiyo would be appreciated. I'm not paying $20 for a minifigure with vidiyo.

I was always a Lego Star Wars kid but I also loved their original themes like (at the time I was a kid) Alien conquest and galaxy squad alongside castle and LOTR I would make it up in my head that these original lego space elements were like planetary forces in the Star Wars universe. Like I remember one plot point as a kid was that the bugs from galaxy squad were natural inhabitants of some long lost planet and were found by the empire so I’d have stormtroopers fighting against them! It was so much fun, I wish they’d bring back this new space alongside some classic space stuff

I was definitely one of the ones who skimped out on Galaxy Squad. The other colored factions made me back then weirdly go “they not uniformed enough!”. But looking past that the theme has a lot of pretty solid builds. And now I understand how the color coding works.
Hopefully someday original LEGO Space themes can come back. I love the LEGO Star Wars builds for the most part, and I’m not even that big of a Star Wars nerd, I just love any form LEGO Space. But something other than that once in a while would be neat.

God, this theme... I REALLY regret not even knowing this theme existed, because this would have been right up my alley, but it somehow completely evaded me. I'm hopeful these don't cost too much to get secondhand so I can grab some to play with, used.
It's honestly saddening to even think about the point you brought up about how it doesn't make sense for LEGO to make the next best thing when now they have all the things they based sets off of. Why build an original space line when we have popular show and series licenses? The way I view that mentality is basically "Why create original, and fun concepts, and designs to play with when we can make the X-Wing for the 57th time?"
LEGO space isn't just a novelty to relive nostalgia, they're fun, creative toys that really explore fun ideas to enhance what you've bought. As someone that never owned a Galaxy Squad set this video alone sold me on them with all the features, gimmicks, and just general aesthetic they have. They look great and look like they play great, you can look at Galaxy Squad and definitely say it took inspiration from things, but can also say there's nothing exactly like it from anywhere else. LEGO Star Wars... Well.. It's just Star wars, but this one is buildable.
LEGO has become so reliant, if not dangerously loyal to licenses when they can easily create something just as good, if not _better_ on their own, their own past is proof of this. Classic Space is practically as iconic as LEGO Star Wars, but so long as they have every license under the sun then why should they ever try to make anything original? And the few times they do, why put in any effort? They'll just cut the budget to the original thing to put towards Ninjago, anyway, guaranteeing the failure of one line to prop up another, keeping one cash cow going while shunning anything that doesn't outsell their best in the first month. Hiddenside would have succeeded if it were for the mobile reliance, and box art, but you know LEGO will just jump to the conclusion "It's original, so it failed, back to licenses and Ninjago."
It's so disheartening to say this about something I love, but that's just how it feels it's become. I want nothing more than to be wrong, but I feel the days of original themes are gone so long as LEGO has licenses, and one original that's popular enough to keep making new series under. Why have EXO-Force when we can give Ninjago mechs? (The Thunder Raider practically looks like an EXO-Force set.) Why have a cool racing theme when we can give bikes and cars to Ninjago? We already have Speed Champions, anyhow. I hope something changes, because I'm sick of licenses, and I'm sick of Ninjago being the only variety we get.
