I am old school and miss the old cars. I am not tech savvy and just got a 2021 Jeep Compass. I am at a loss with all these options. All i want to do is to figure out how to get the heat working properly. Radio would be nice, too. But, i would be happy with the heat right now. Thanks!!

This video was great! So many things I didn’t know. Question for you-the icon for my heated steering wheel is grayed out and it won’t turn on. Any suggestions to remedy that issue? Thanks!
Thank you! Greyed out climate settings usually only happen when the vehicle is running in accessory mode and not fully turned on. Few things to try..
1. Turn the car off, lock the doors then get back in and restart.
2. Soft reset by pressing and holding the power button (volume rocker) and tuning rocker buttons together for 10 seconds
3. Go to Apps --> All and look for the heated steering wheel button and press that
If none of those work you'll have to book it in for service. Could be a loose connection, bad module or something else

@@derekrowlands6902 After 3 trips to 2 different dealers, they discovered the computer system was not configured. Likely a mistake after dealer #1 did the cluster panel recall. System configured and ALL systems working! Unfortunately, it took a chat session with Jeep Corporate before my concerns were heard and addressed. Sigh ... so disappointing. At least my NEW car is working like a NEW car again!
OMG, i'm a bit overwhelmed. I am planning on buying my first JEEP Compass plug-in Hybrid. So complex that i think i will need a "crash" course to even drive it home (in one piece).
There are some many things about the ride but I'm sure you'll pick most of these things up after you own it for a few weeks. What car are you in right now?

Ah the EU version of the Fusion/Taurus. It's going to be a huge change for sure. Plugin hybrids are a great idea.. good fuel economy, better performance and full EV driving. It's the best of both worlds

Hi Steve, great video. one thing I need to know, when traveling and using the turn by turn direction on GPS how can I also listen to radio or talk on the hands free via bluetooth phone. I understand when voice of GPS is talking to make a turn or whatever it would stop the conversation or stop the music on the radio but when I am using the GPS my music through a device does not work.
Thanks James! Check to see if the volume is turned up. Go to Media --> Audio Settings --> Volume Adjustment
Bump up the audio for Media/Phone
Does the bluetooth audio play when you don't have a map going? And have you tried muting the navigation prompts when you have a route going? It's a little speaker icon on the middle left of the nav screen

Thanks! You can't upgrade from uConnect 4 to uConnect 5.. it's a different underlying technology...
Hi Steve, do you know if the speed limiter feature is present and how it work? Is it possible to set a custom speed?
There's traffic sign recognition that will either give you a visual alert, chime or nothing - but I don't believe there's a way to set a custom speed limit outside of using the adaptive cruise control system
where is the TPMS button?? i have a compass limited 2023 hybrid, when warning that there is a tyres pressure problem, i can not find info or picture to reset. greetings from belgium
Hey! If it's not going away then either one or more of the tires still has low pressure or there could be something wrong with the sensor. If you've filled up to the right pressure, drive for a bit and see if it goes away. But if it doesn't, you could try a battery disconnect for a few mins with visiting the dealer as a last resort
Steve, thank you from the U.S., it's quite an informative video. Just one question (hope it's not a silly one) - my Cluster Display has "RUN". Can you tell me what that means? I assume it means the engine is running? I appreciate your help.
You're welcome! Run would mean it's on but the message shouldn't stay on all the time. Is it a warning light or can you scroll past it using the left steering wheel pad?
Great vid. Would I be right in assuming that you cannot view the actual map within the digital cluster screen - only little directions? If that’s the case, it would seem it’s quite a dated system in comparison to others :(
Thanks Jonathan! You're right.. it's just the little directions and it only works with factory navigation and not other map applications. I find the entry level models for most manufacturers won't be quite as loaded.. When you jump into the Grand Cherokee you'll find the full digital map

@@CarsWithSteve I agree. We just purchased a 2024 Compass Latitude/LUX. Passenger seat is manual but heated. Dash pods are analog but two seperate pods, tachometer and speedometer. Not like the dash here.
There was a mid cycle update that switched it out to a different look. I'm hoping to get back behind the wheel of a 2024 in the next month or two to re-shoot the updated version
How do you check the oil life
I don't think there is one in this cluster. Just an indicator when you're 500km away from needing an oil change

If it's the one with the a car that says "OFF" that'll be for the pre-collision assist/forward collision system. If you turn it back on through the uConnect media screen it'll go away.

How do you check the miles until empty on the gauge i’m having a hard time with that?
When I zoom in and start showcasing the cluster about the 6:00 mark - I show a way to customize certain elements of the screen. One of those options is Range to Empty. Add that option in so that you can see the actual milage left in your tank
What are the buttons for on the drivers vizor? On trip mileage it has a time ( bottom of three things shown) . Is that the total time driven since the last fill up?
If they're the three buttons where there are 1, 2 and 3 dots, that's for garage door openers

As far as I know you can't do that in the Compass

Hey Nicola! North American and international models have different options but there was actually a mid cycle update back in 2023 that stripped that feature out

Hello, there is a slight light leak on the vehicle's display screen. Is this normal? Is it normal to have slight light leaks from the edges of the screen?
Yes, I've seen that in a few different Jeep models when they have digital cluster screens. I've seen some other manufacturers with the same leak as well

@@CarsWithSteve I bought the summit model.Frankly, most people said that the car made a lot of noise inside, but I cannot say that this is a very honest comment.The sound of the car does not come into the interior to be exaggerated, in fact it is very quiet.Since I live in a crowded city, there is a lot of electricity involved.and I like it :) it's nice to get the electric feeling :)I am satisfied with its general comfort, safety and technologies.It looks much more imposing than the vehicles in its segment.As you can imagine, there are always bad comments about every brand.I don't mind that. If I had the chance to choose again, I would choose it again. How do you change the cluster language? I have a 2019 Compass, and somehow after 3 years I have it in a foreign language! I can't get it back to English!
If the main infotainment screen is in English it should follow through to the cluster screen. Is that other screen in another language too?

Ah, that's because the safety systems were disabled. Is the traction control button under your infotainment system turned off?

There was unfortunately an update mid cycle that doesn’t allow the switch between views. I’m hoping to be in a 2024 model soon and will shoot an updated video on what it can do

It's on of the pre-collision assist systems that's been disabled. Check in the uConnect media screen settings -- > Driver Assistance to see if it's turned on
There is no analogue dial option in the UK PHEV 4xe - pressing the OK button for a second does nothing. Also no NAV on digital cluster.
Interesting differences in international models. Is it close to the same otherwise from what you've seen?
Why the manual one does not have cruise control ?
Manual transmissions and adaptive cruise control tend to not go hand in hand. My guess is Jeep didn't see the benefit in developing the necessary tech based on the projected number of units they'll sell

Of course! To be honest, we don't have the manual transmission Jeep Compass in North America so I don't really have a point of reference for reliability

Hello Steve, I need your help with my jeep 2023. For some reason the screen and dashboard goes on and off when I driving at nights only. I took it to the dealer twice and they couldn’t fix it. They said everything is okay but it’s not obviously.
If it keeps coming on and off it sounds like it could be a wiring or module issue.. Usually if it just turns off you could try to see if it's the light settings (make sure you're in auto mode) but for it to constantly happen.. that's a warranty claim you need to make.
How to I put all my parking sensors on
If you have the parking sensors there will be a button just under the infotainment screen. The icon has a P with some larger brackets next to it and the word OFF on the bottom
How do I play music without engine on?
Don't press the brake pedal, then press the start/stop button twice. That'll put you into accessory mode without starting the engine
My dads 2020 jeep compass is having this thing where when he turns his headlights on, the radio screen dims and nothing really glows in the dark like it’s supposed to. Is there a setting I need to change or something?
Check the rolling switches just to the left of the steering wheel. The one on the right should let you adjust the brightness of the screens!
I have a 2023 Jeep compass latitude, my buttons with the arrows and call buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel do not work. Any solutions to this problem?
If you've already tried pulling the battery it's most likely either a wiring or module issue...

UPDATE: PULLING THE BATTERY WORKED! All buttons on steering wheel is working now

My cluster screen does not show the standard odometer and speedometer circles on either side anymore, I was trying to use the up and down arrow keys to check out options and just cant seem to revert back to the original screen ... help!
Has your Compass had an update recently? I've had a few people mention an update has removed certain elements of their cluster and infotainment systems
You have to press “Ok” for more than 3 seconds and is going to appear … the option “ hold Ok For digital”
My dash visibility during the day is almost non-existent, how do I adjust it ? I feel like it dangerous that I can't see the dash while I'm driving.
Check by your left knee. There are some rockers you can use to adjust the brightness of the screen - you want to slide the one on the right up to the brightness you want
2023 jeep Compass steering wheel controls just stop working. Can not scroll at all. Is there a re set or does it have to go in to Jeep service? Only 6000 miles on car
You can try disconnecting the battery first to see if that forces it to boot.. otherwise it could either be a fuse or a wiring issue

Hey Jógvan! Ah the international Compass 4xe.. how are you enjoying it?
You can manually reset it.. it's a weird process though:
1. Without pressing the brake pedal, push the engine START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the ON/RUN position. So you'd press that button twice without actually starting the ignition
2. Fully press the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times within ten seconds
3. Cycle the ignition to the OFF position

As I expected though the solution you provided me with sadly didn't work. I have tried it before. I don't know if it is the difference between the cars in the US and Europe but if I push the the start button two times it just goes to OFF. The ignition has two options: OFF and RUN. So when I push the button twice it just goes to OFF.
Have you tried just setting it to the On/Run position without it actually starting up? Even if that's just once press..
@@CarsWithSteve Yes I have tried.I have also tried pressing the accelerator pedal 3 and 5 times before cycling the ignition to OFF (Some tutorials say 3 times some say 5). It's pretty strange because it seems to work on all Jeep models except the 4xe.
Hmm.. the only other way to reset that I know of in Jeep vehicles is on the oil life page itself by pressing and holding the OK button. Didn't realize the international models had a different way to reset but if that doesn't work check with the dealer.. and circle back to let me know if you figure it out!

Thanks!! Your dashboard is different than mine. I actually took it to the dealer and he said it doesn’t come with an oil gauge and I have to wait for the oil notification which is absolutely insane to me. How does a car not come with that?

Informative video. One question I have and did not see in the video is how to change the odometer to miles instead of km. I can do the kph to mph but the odometer does not change to miles. The Trip setting are also in kms and not miles. How do I change that?

How do you get the damn driver display off of Italian language? Smh this 2024 jeep compass limited
Lol ah the random language.. There are 2 spots you can adjust the language, both are inside of the infotainment system: ruclips.net/video/3ewO61MYmDw/видео.html
Settings --> My Profile --> Language and Settings --> Display --> Language
Make sure it's set to the language you want. If they're both in English and it's still showing the wrong language, 2 options you can try are a soft screen reboot --> ruclips.net/video/5_q8Td0VwTM/видео.html and then if that doesn't work, disconnect the battery for 5-10 mins and then re-connect and perform the soft reboot
It’s a bit frustrating as vehicles in review are always loaded so have a lot of features not on mid range models.
I always try to shoot lower trim levels when they're available. You'd be surprised how challenging it is to come across entry or lower level trims

I have been tryinng to switch my 2022 Jeep compass from digital speedometer to analog view. I do what you show, which is press+hold the OK button but nothing happens. What am I missing?? I have watched tones of videos and cannot figure it out! Drive me NUTS!
It should switch out when you press and hold OK and are on the Driver Info screen.. If that's not working only thing I can recommend is have a tech look at it next time it's in for service

If yours isn't the fully digital one that would make sense. The Compass has a 3.5" analogue, 7" analogue and then this 10.25" digital. If it's not working in the digital.. I'm as lost as you lol
@@CarsWithSteve I just found out on a Jeep forum that the 2022 models made after mid year no longer have this option, only digital. Mine came off the factory floor in November 2022 so no longer has this option. In case you get this question again. Thanks for all your help, your video was very helpful to me, once I got my Jeep I was fully educated :)

Watching this video just pisses me off. I'm driving one of these as a rental and I shouldn't have to refer to "how to" videos to learn how to use basic things like heat. Car manufacturers are out of control!
To be fair.. heat is pretty straight forward but there are some pretty advanced options available. I find these videos easier to digest than the owner's manual
Also using as a rental. Thank goodness for this video. The rep basically gave us the keys and we were on our own. All we wanted was a simple vehicle until ours was repaired. (Stupid deer!) No such thing I guess.
