  • There are so many shoes on the market, it becomes difficult to make a decision on which one to buy. We decided to put together a few of our favorite flats for 2023 in order to help you narrow that list down. Join Mark as he goes over a few of our favorite flat shoes of 2023!
    The Five Ten Freerider Pro is quite possibly the most popular flat pedal mountain bike shoe on the market. With a ton of protection and tried and true Stealth rubber soles built specifically for handling the most technical of enduro and downhill trails or the most mellowest of flow trails, it is hard to look much further for a new pair of mountain bike shoes. I don’t think I could walk around our office and find a single person who hasn’t owned a pair of these shoes at one point in time, if not currently. The Freerider Pro is the go-to for many mountain bike riders for good reason!
    Some of the main highlights of the Five Ten Freerider Pro include:
    - Stealth® S1 Dotty™ rubber outsole
    - OrthoLite® sockliner
    - Molded EVA midsole
    - Impact-resistant toe box
    If you're looking for durable but stylish mountain biking shoes, but not sure where, look no further... the Fox Union shoes might fit the bill! Just 7 short months ago, Fox released their game-changing Union footwear line which has quickly become some of the most sought after mountain bike shoes on the market. They also have a canvas option which breath better and look more like a classic shoe, if that is what you’re after. We here at Jenson USA have spent a lot of time on the Union line and can attest to the comfort and durability that these shoes provide!
    Some of the main highlights of the Fox Union line include:
    - Ultratac™ rubber outsole
    - Custom-tuned EVA mid-sole for unmatched comfort, protection, and feel
    - Molded internal stiffening plate for power-transfer when pedaling, while also providing enough flexibility to comfortably walk around.
    - Molded toe cap for ultimate protection against rocks
    Our final shoe pick is the Ride Concepts Tallac. Ride Concepts shook up the flat pedal game and released the Tallac back in 2022, immediately making it a contender for one of the most rugged shoes on the market. This shoe is built to thrive in the most toughest of terrain, keeping the rider safe both on and off the bike. The fine folks from Ride Concepts came from the footwear industry before starting their own brand and their knowledge and experience with footwear shows in all of their designs. We’re extremely impressed by Ride Concepts products and wouldn’t think twice about recommending their shoes to anyone! In fact, I still have a couple of pairs Wildcat’s in rotation.
    Some of the main highlights include:
    - MAX GRIP rubber outsole
    - Hexagon outsole featuring reverse hex traction pattern on toe and heel for hike-able climbs and descents
    - D3O® High Impact Zone Technology insole absorbs impact and reduces fatigue
    - Lightweight bonded upper featuring Cordura® mesh for durability and breathability
    - TPU toe and heel protection with reinforced anti-abrasion film

    Back a decade or two ago when I was rock climbing, I had a few pairs of 5-10 climbing shoes with stealth rubber. That stuff has a great grip on rock but on some surfaces, like plants, it was as slick as snot. I always had a pair of hiking shoes for any hike down from a climb that involved bushwhacking. It was rare but there were a few times when the stealth rubber was terrible for off-rock travel. Just keep that in mind when getting the 5-10 shoes and maybe test them out on a variety of surfaces before wearing them off the bike.

    Great Video! I'm a left below the knee amputee so I wear New Balance Tennis Shoes right now bc they are lightweight and have a heal which is a easier geometry to walk on the stiff prosthetic ankle. Given that info, which one is lightweight and doesn't have that flat "Vans" skateboard feel to them?

    • @jensonusabicycles
      @jensonusabicycles  8 месяцев назад

      They're all going to be that relatively flat feel, unfortunately. You might be able to swap insoles to try to help with that heel feel you're looking for. If you want something really lightweight, but still protective, check out shoes made with canvas material. Fox Racing makes a GREAT lightweight canvas shoe called the Union Canvas, I just wore mine riding yesterday. Adidas Five Ten also makes a high quality canvas Freerider shoe as well. Lot's of great options out there for you!

    Need to add Dakine Drift to the list. Bought them because they were $70 AUD on clearance. Second only to 5ten in my opinion. Well happy with them, and a steal on special. Ahead of the RC's I've had, but still to try the fox shoes. Not too much protection, but if you want protection then go the 5ten impact pro's.

    Rode 5 10's for years, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME AS BEFORE! If you have an old pair compare them , Addias switched all their shoes to $$$Eco$$$ friendly compunds. My last 2 pairs of 5 10's have been a serious disapointment. Definitely looking to make a switch in the future. The power of marketing hype is ridiculous

    The problem with Ride Concept shoes is that you have to have a relatively small size foot to get one. Nothing over size 13.

    What’s the least wide shoe? I don’t think I have a narrow foot but it’s definitely not wide and the 5-10s are too wide for my foot! Are the fox shoes narrower?

    • @jensonusabicycles

      Depends on where you're looking for the difference. I have a ton of Five Ten's and wear them when riding my dirt jumper at the bike park or pump tracks, but also have been wearing the Fox Union's since they came out when riding trail, enduro, and downhill. I actually have 4 different versions of the Union's that I wear because I like them so much. The Union's have more room at the front for your toes, but feel narrower below the toe box compared to the Five Ten's... for my feet, they're just about perfect. Extremely light feeling on my feel and comfortable.
      My Five Ten Hellcat and Hellcat Pro clipless shoes are comfortable, but feel like they have a little bit less room and more weight. I also have multiple pairs of Five Ten Freerider Pro and Sleuth flats and like them for flex characteristics so I choose those when riding flat pedals.
      I just got a pair of Fox Union BOA flats that I am going to try with flats on my DJ soon so no feedback there, but coincidentally I filmed a video about them yesterday evening with a coworker who has been on them for months now... keep an eye out for it if you're interested.

      @@jensonusabicycles thank you for ALL of that! I’ll try the fox shoes out! I live in the Rocky Mountains and mostly do trail/xc/enduro!! Do you wear the same size in Fox as the 5-10s?

    • @jensonusabicycles
      @jensonusabicycles  16 дней назад +1

      @@kendrapearson6797 Yeah, they're pretty similar fits so you can go with the same sizing. I wear an 11 sometimes for extra room in the toe area, but went with a 10.5 for the Fox Unions which fit perfectly. My 10.5 Five Ten Hellcat's are a slightly tighter fit in the toe box area than the Union's are. I could honestly go either way, but the Union's do feel noticeably lighter and more comfortable for my feet.

    I heard from several people who bought five tens recently that after Adidas buyout group is way way worth. Have you anything to say about that?

    • @jensonusabicycles
      @jensonusabicycles  Месяц назад

      Personally, I don't believe this to be true. I currently own 5 pairs of Five Ten flat and clipless shoes, none of which are any worse than previous Five Ten's that I've owned. I also have multiple pairs of a few other brands shoes and they're just as good, if not better in certain circumstances. They're still holding up great, the rubber is tacky and has lasted a long time just fine, and the pricing is as solid as it's ever been. I wouldn't have any hesitation about picking up more in the future.

      I have not a clue, I would need more information than this comment provides to figure out what is going on. Could be that you live somewhere that the items cannot be shipped to, could be an issue with your PayPal account if you tried to purchase that way, could be a large variety of things, unfortunately.
