Dave Lee I bough the Acer aspire e5 575g last may (I wanted a laptop because my i7 + GTX 1080 desktop isn’t very portable), it has a dual core sky-lake i5 and the 940mx with 2GB vram. At the time I paid $509, I over clocked the GPU to run about a 40,000 compute score on Geekbench 4 which was out preforming the GTX 950m. For the price I think that my e5 was about as good as this one.

A wave of these MX150 notebooks is coming. And Acer is usually the worst brand of em all. So we can be hopeful of the future additions to the range.

I have this laptop. The specs on mine are: Intel i5-7200U, Nvidia MX150 2GB, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD and surprisingly has a back lit keyboard. Like Dave said the speakers are very weak on this laptop but there is a way around that by using FxSound enhancer which is a godsend. In fact i was looking at small USB sound card adapters to use with this laptop as it does not give the best sound through that as well. FxSound is basically boosting the audio for both speakers and headphone out, and still manages to keep audio clean.

theres two variants of 950m, the gddr5 variant is better than the mx150, the gddr3 variant is not.

I have the new version with an I5 8250U here (256GB SSD; 8GB DDR4 RAM) for a customer. Paid 580€ with warranty upgraded from 2 to 4 years. It didn't come with Windows but a license was 5€. For the money it's a REALLY solid Notebook that's sufficient for whatever people wanna do on it. The only thing annoying me is the surface is really prone to fingerprints and hard to clean. I like my working gear staying clean, so it's not a device for me (in all fairness I'm used so XPS class Notebooks) but for the normal person who needs a solid device for everything I give a big thumbs up for this notebook!

In 2018, this laptop is amazing. It can run most games, full HD 60fps, although battery life while gaming is about 1-2 hours. Also, the one I have is backlit, and gen 8th i5 Intel processer. So I think I have an updated model.

After looking around, this review convinced me to go for it, and I couldn't be happier. A few things has been upgraded since this review was made however (processor, back lighting etc) , so thanks for steering me the right way!

If you're considering buying any Acer's laptop with these rubber-ish finishing on the top part, do keep in mind it will peel off VERY easily. I own a Acer Aspire V Nitro, which has the same top part finishing. The sides started to peel within 2 weeks of usage, this is from normal usage of taking it out of the bag for work use and putting back in, bag was not stuffed just your charger and mouse.

I just bought the Acer Aspire ES 15. I'm so excited to get it, especially since my computer lost it's operating system and damaged its HDD. It has the 7th generation Intel Core i3-7100U processor. 6GB DDR4 RAM, and 1TB 5400 RPM SATA hard drive. This is a big upgrade from my last computer from 2013 that had Intel Celeron N3150 @1.6GHz, 500GB Storage, and 4GB RAM. I need this computer to do school work, light gaming, and Netflix :) it's arriving tomorrow! The funny thing is I have an almost 6 year old wireless mouse that has outlived 2, now 3, computers! I'm saving up for a MacBook Air. That will take me over a year, so I needed a little replacement. This should do the trick I hope!

kaze kage micro center is one of the best store to buy PC parts. There online shop is pretty good, it would only be unsafe to buy from there if someone near your home steals your mail.

This is probably the best reliable laptop I've ever owned. There are technically no problems with it if you know how to work with it correctly, and it allows you to get by through some old games. I've had my big rig computer break on a water-cooling installation, and this laptop was the only thing I had left. I'd wish they were more smaller so that I could fit it more comfortably in my backpack. Really great laptop. More companies need to create this in-the-middle laptop because this laptop is very helpful getting through the days.
I've always wondered why there is a second fan slot. Maybe it follows the Acer Nitro pattern...

Yes, depending on what you're going to edit. Videos or images at 1080p will easily get 60 fps+ when editing but if it is real time hard 3d graphics design or edition i'm not sure...

Clem Carmi yes, I second that! I wonder if the MX150 is enough to do some light gaming (I've gathered in an other review that the Xiaomi overheats after a while when playing).
Yes there is definetly thermal throttling, but it's an ultrabook with a dedicated GPU. (I order it from China, will receive it soon... hopefully).

I know this is 6 months on but I bought a A515-51G-56T5 for $550. (Got a good deal on ebay, but deals can be found) Same chassis and a 1TB 5400, no SSD. Has 8GB RAM, DDR 2400, i5 8250 quad core, MX150 and a white backlit keyboard. Has a slot for M.2 I believe this is a great option for a budget computer to do a review on.
It has 2.5" drive bay but doesn't seem has any sata connector over there, is this some kind variation on aspire 5 lineups? Can someone confirm?

sathvik patil hei, all i can see is that acer uses same chassis design for several different model and the 2.5 bay was either intended for another model that doesn't support m.2 ssd or support both m. 2 and sata, not this model (aspire 5) though.
Ojun if you're still looking for the answer its no, it doesn't have a connector. Someone on the Acer forums actually asked this and found out it doesn't. But he wanted to attach a connector on his own so he asked the part numbers and got his answer. Would have been nice if he'd have let us known if he was successful.

Acer sells 2.5" drive installation kits for the vx 15 which includes a drive caddy, 8 screws, 4 for installing the drive on the caddy and the other 4 for the caddy on the chassis and a cable that is used to connect the drive to the board of the laptop..............i was hoping that was the case for this laptop but i didn't see any connection on the laptop in the video.(it looks like a sata express...."looks like"). I bought this laptop for less than 300 dolars, with broken LCD. New LCD for 60, and extra 4GB for 20 dolars. I think that was very good deal
The 940mx+SSD model didn't come with a bracket for the 2.5-inch hard drive bay, meaning you had to get one from Acer to do any storage upgrades. Dave, does this updated version come with a bracket now?
McMexicans i got my bracket sent in and installed a hdd on my 940mx laptop it wasnt that bad

i think its because the laptop comes with a warranty. So they know if you get the bracket you added an hdd and thus voided your warranty.

There's actually multiple variants of the Aspire 5 out I believe, all around the $550-600 range. I have the Aspire 5 without dedicated graphics, and had I done my research, I would've found one for the same price with dedicated graphics.

I'm using this laptop for almost 2 weeks now and i haven't faced any major problems ! The screen quality is average little bit yellowish but you can fix it by some display apps and due to its base clock speed (1.6 GHz) it's gonna take few seconds to switch between apps! But other than that it's a very good deal it's unigine heaven benchmark score is 1366 which is top notch in this price range! So i will prefer you to go for it!👍

Damon Jones additionally just to highly the difference the i5 7200u (dual core) in this laptop has a pass mark score of 4693, while the i5 7300hq (quad core) in the dell has score of 6807. Basically you pay for what you get but the hq processors are worth it I personally have the acer vx15 with the i7 7700hq.

ok first - GTX 1050 is 40% faster than 960M,not slightly. 40% is a huge deal and a significant jump in performance....go see on tech deal's videos and you can also check on userbenchmarks
second - that acer costs like 550$..this dell 7567 costs 850$ with IPS panel...thats a 300$ difference
