Hey, for every 1100 decent people, there are 10 who simply want to divide the whole world. And unfortunately at this particular time, they all seem to be tRump supporters. I apologize for bringing the political realities of 9/20 into such an amazing performance by such talented people... but here we are. I feel certain that they will understand.
Three things that stood out to me: 1. Chris and Jon are amazing of course, but Critter is really killing it here! 2. Brittany appearing to play the ascending string part at the end, even though I couldn't hear it too well, was the icing on the cake. The song's not complete without it! 3. The wordless vocal part is beautiful and I would love to hear Punch Brothers incorporate that into one of their live performances.
If you are missing Live From Here and haven’t heard the news, Chris Thile and Punch Brothers have a new musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour. Season one is streaming here: bit.ly/ecmh-season1 - Punch Brothers HQ
Just checked it out. It is a different feel. There's something about the silence that elevates this piece higher for me. The silence feels more pronounced. Both versions are great though.

Good GAWD I miss this show. 😭 It was a damn TREASURE TROVE of talent. What's funny (now) is I was a YUUUGE A Prairie Home Companion fan for eons. When Garrison Keillor announced his retirement and that Chris Thile would be the new host... I was NOT exactly thrilled. (Prob goes without saying that I knew exactly SQUAT about Chris Thile, Punch Bros, Nickel Creek, etc before this.🤦♀️) I was even less thrilled when I found out the show would focus more on live, collaborative music performances. Then came the Keillor "scandal" and the name of *my show* changed to Live From Here.🤬 I wanted my "Norwegian humor" (an oxymoron if there ever was one!) and cheesy skits & rambling storytelling back! I never intended to become a fan. I didn't even plan on listening! But I'm lazy and a creature of habit so I kept "accidentally" listening to the same station & time slot every week and... DAAAAMMMMMMNNNNN!!!😱 I heard all these A-FUCKING-MAZING artists & collabs with Thile on the show.😳 Most I'd never heard of. Then I started down that rabbit hole, googling Thile and all these different artists. I've had my mind blown *clean off* its perch innumerable times now.🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I grew an INSANE appreciation for the unabashed, unbridled spaz-genius-virtuoso Chris Thile is. Dude can play *anything* with *anyone.* The show this video was taken from with Jon Batiste gave me the same mad love, respect, and appreciation for him as Thile.🤯 What a gift this has been.❤️ And now, thanks to CoVid19... this show has been cancelled.💔
Whoever put an ad break at 5:50 into this song is a fricking sociopath.... One of the greatest songs ever put on youtube!!
I loved this band, love this song. A piano solo killed, gave me the chills.
My oh my indeed... what an amazing performance, one giant beating heart of collective musicianship !
Such a great unique song. I’ve just watched about 6 different videos of it.
I'm on my way there
That moment at 3:11 where Jon and Chris synch into the flowing "arrangement!" Jon likes it!
Among the all time Live from Here highlights.
Chris is an absolute gift. So much joy in the world. I must thank God!
Loved this. The version from the Late Show was one of my favourite videos I've ever seen. :')
Whoever gave this a thumbs down gives thumbs a bad name. I am ashamed to have thumbs if that person has them.
It was probably someone with fat thumbs who hit the wrong button!

Saw this performed live ... simply amazing in any version!
This popped up in my feed, hadn't watched it in a couple years. Man, it is just sooooo good. The feel is indescribable.
I wish I could give this so many more thumbs up...
Just discovered this Chris Thile, this is amazing... I hope I can see some performances in the future... Come to CO!
God how I love Critter freaking the hell out at the end... I was yelling and shouting along by then myself
Getting into some serious Sufjan Stevens territory there at the end!
When those drums come in… chills
my oh my glad I came across this...
Ahhhh thank you so much for including this!
Yes!!! Thank you! Post credit bonus!
Thank you whoever manages this youtube channel

KBMusic don’t forget Noam!
@@randalarmstrong9559 Noam is also killing it! They all are really.
The drums that don't start until halfway through is what seals this for me as my favorite version.
My favorites are all together
Verging into Pet Sounds territory at the end...
It was all amazing ♥️
Come a long way from that pizza shop I 1st caught your show in :)
bring back the show

Crazy good, how does this happen....magic I guess.
Now a great memory.
My, oh my!
Aaaaaaand I'm dead.
I wish I could improv like Batiste!
My Piano Really Needs to be Tuned when he pulled the Back to the Future jingle stuff I really felt that
Wowwwwww.... Just wowwwwww!!!!
Wow! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💫
I really need to spend more time on the internet if it takes me 18 months to realise this is here. Fucking Joyous.
Happy being here.
Amazing joy
The end really made me think of Kishi Bashi. Absolutely brilliant stuff.
my oh my amen amen
That man can seriously shred those fucking keys
Chills.
The best internet ever!
ugh Chris Thile is too amazing
Banjo!
Ghost duet at the end 😂
🎉
didn't dawn on me how much this reminds me of Radiohead until now.
But like if they ate their veggies and got exercise and lived on a farm.
@@keithklassen5320 ,.haha!
Very cool. But they time they performed this on the late show was something else tho

Totally. There are so many great versions of this tune. Also, Apartment Sessions.
I was gonna write this exact comment haha. The Late Show version was out of this world.
@@memorieswithouthomes1438 I miss Maddie.
Keep it going son?
Chris dances like Niles Crane.
It is an absolute travesty this show was cancelled...Covid or not. If we don't need this kind of artistry in America now, then when?
Amen!

omg
A prime example of why cancelling Live From Here was bone-headed! (file under: News, Old)

So is this Chris’s song, or Jon’s, or whose? It’s awesome, I just don’t know how to look for other versions or recordings.
I think it was first recorded on Punch Brothers record The Phosphorescent Blues
