@@MT_7284E I can't tell you how many times I've watch this video. His energy is so positive and infectious and is JUST what I need in my life right now.
I might be wrong but he has a song called „Chopinesque“ on his album Hollywood Africans that implements some of this. You‘ll love it and the seamless transition to saint james infirmary on the album just makes it even better than it already is.
It's that look into the distance, like he can see something out there we can't. And the smile comes when he knows he has interpreted this imperceptible thing so that we can all share it. Beautiful!!
Definitely, it's what get me every time - would be fascinating to have him wired up to a brain imaging machine while he's improvising - he is seeing something out there for sure 🙂
Came to the comments to say just this. I always find it fascinating to watch him improvise. When he’s playing something he knows or wrote, his gaze is “present”, but when he improvises, it’s almost as if he’s looking into space and “seeing” the notes. Or, maybe he’s tuning out his vision altogether, like a blind musician, and seeing the music with his mind’s eye.😎
@@PabloArevalo-y2f basically say for instance if you took two keys - let’s say C natural and C Sharp - the recording of the song is somewhere in between those two keys, so any of the keys on the piano tuned normally would be falling either flat or sharp to the recording in this case.
@@CotymoG exaxtly. im a guitarist and if i play along to any guns n roses songs in standard tuning i know it will sound half a step down because slash is always tuned in e flat rather than standard.
That Chopin blues was phenomenon. Chopin's version is like a drape that falls lightly to Earth, encroach us in the twilight's somber. While Jon's interpretation is like the start of an evening walk at sunset. There, the moment, a single fraction of a second when time stood still, the rustle of the soundless curtain pulls, and day turns into night. The lights are then turned on and the streets start bustling again, That is how Jon's version sounds for me. An urban's Nocturne.
As a classically trained pianist, Jon’s music is a balm to my soul. Brilliantly and effortlessly adding soul into everything he hears. This is everything.
Genius doesn't even begin to explain this man. He needs to be awarded with hundreds of honorary doctorates. So many of us wish that we could be so in touch and in love with a gift from the universe.
What a gifted man! Damn! He has the ear. He has the education, and amazingly long fingers that make that piano sing! I know he spends hours practicing, but the music just comes out of him like a flowing river running down the banks and over the rapids. What a blessing to all of us! If we were in the U.K. His title would be Sir Batiste!
I love music. It has been a part of my life since I can remember. However, when watching Jon Batiste, I wish I loved music even half as much as he does. He truly hears and feels every sound of every song. I probably love him more than I love music. That's how talented Jon Batiste is.
I feel like most modern popular music has blues at its heart already (any Billy Joel CERTAINLY does), but his classical blues are genius. I would happily listen to a whole album of that! ...Oh my GOD. He made Bach FUNKY. 🤯
Jon is the most joyful person I've ever seen, but I think he was dropped on his head as a baby. His talent is insane, massive respect to the hard work he must have put into being so incredible.
Sometimes when he's playing it seems like he's even surprised by what his fingers did. Like "woah, that was crazy! Did you hear that?!" as if he wasn't the source of the sound at all 😂
Bless Jon Batiste he gives so much joy to everyone when he plays piano and if you play piano too 😮it’s even so much BETTER!! He is a beautiful singer, teacher, such an amazing person Thank you God ❤
Thank you Pianote for capturing the genius of Jon Batiste and sharing it with the world. Being able to have a view of his finger work on the piano is like watch a master at work.
I would pay good money to watch him and the piano raw. Just the artist and the canvas and let him play out whatever he was feeling right then. No traditional concert lineup needed
I never tire of watching Jon Batiste. Such absolute joy. Julian Lage is very similar, but with the guitar. They both have an ability to see and feel music that is unique. I always feel uplifted after watching the both.
I'm literally starting to stretch my pennies even more, now that I see Jon has an album called Beethoven Blues! After all, Christmas is just over a month away!! 😄
BRILLIANT!!! Jon Batiste is undoubtedly extremely talented. And.....the piano, more than any other musical instrument, especially with its 88 keys, is perfect for improvisation. Thereby allowing someone like Jon, with his expertise and facility, to amend a pop or classical composition into a blues or jazz rendition.
I truly have never found anyone that I can purely listen and watch play all day as I can with you. Just seeing how your mind works when you hear the songs is truly inspiring and brings pure joy to my soul. It also helps me accept and recognize a gift that God has given me to also see and hear music. Thank you, Truly! I have seen him live on Colbert at his start and then at the Global Citizen concert and he had just elevated to a different level.... just a purely joyful person on this earth
Who needs an apple a day to keep the doctor away with Jon Batiste in the world? Can't wait for his new album - keeping my fingers crossed that he might work his way through other composers and put out dedicated albums for them too - I'm nominating Bach and Verdi from the get go!
I can only guess how much effort people like him put into getting to the point where you can literally see the music in front of your eyes. That’s probably why only a few make it that far. You have to love it, otherwise it’s just painful.
Jon Batiste's mannerisms remind me of Stevie Wonder and I wonder if its a by product of just feeling the music and interpreting it in ways that us normies could never understand. Its almost as if he can see the music in real time and transfer what he sees into the extension of the piano. Freakin amazing!

Jon Batiste is what I expect my coffee to do every morning.
I love that he doesn't critisize any of this music as being simplistic or beneath him. he just hears the music and respects it for what it is.

When he immediately knew the Pavarotti recording was "in between keys"...he is a magical, magical being.
