Wonderful. This series is going to become legendary! That match, Dennis' first against West Ham on Boxing Day, 1975 well of course the four goals were memorable but Holte Enders will remember it as the peak of the balloon craze. Thousands of balloons released by the Villa faithful, no fireworks, flares and smoke but fan bought balloons including one inflated lady with real hair! LOL. Over 51,000 there for the game, those were magical days. Thanks Peter and thanks Dennis.
Loved Dennis, great leader great player great man! Total legend and still the best day of my life in Rotterdam and always will be. Saw most of Dennis’s games home and away and will always be proud and grateful to witness the greatest time at the moment to be a Villa fan 💙💜 UTV

Even after winning the League & European Cup the likes of Gary Shaw, Dennis Mortimer, Ken McNaught and Des Bremner were criminally overlooked by England and Scotland managers. Ron Greenwood handed a couple of caps to Withe, Morley & Sid but would always prefer the likes of Graham Rix, Paul Mariner and Glenn Hoddle. Definitely a southern bias!

@@Jinksy68 during the late 1950's and into the 1960's there used to be a quartley publication called the villain.... uśmiech looks like assuming jinks 68 is the year of your birth that your only 56 so maybe your too young to remember this and also maybe you did not know that The Villains nick name used to be the PETS as in PERRY BARR PETS when they played out of their wellington road ground before moving to Villa Park
Brilliant. My biggest memory of Dennis was him scoring at Everton in 81. I was behind the goal at Goodison when went through and slotted it. It was my 21st birthday that day. It was also the game when Tony Morley scored the Goal of the Season. Dennis was one of the best players who never played for England, which was criminal.
Thank you Pete for making this conversation-series with some of our all time favorites. The bring back the memories and it's great to get their perspectives.
A few years back, I met Dennis Mortimer in a hotell in Birmingham, arranged by the Norwegian Lions (a Norwegian supporter group. He was there along with Garry Shaw, and promoting his new book, "The Full Morty" - a must read. I remember getting his book signed, and his remarks on my suit, sayng; you look quite dapper. He looked to be a quite humble, kind and hardworking man.
My hero and without any doubt THE greatest ever Aston Villa captain, and a wonderful, wonderful man. When they say Villa legend they really don't come any bigger, thanks Pete 💜💙
Brilliant Pete...what a great man Dennis is. I remember his debut against West Ham he was sensational, I desperately wanted us to sign him and was delighted when we got him. It was great listening to him on your podcast, he seems such a humble man. Keep up the great work Pete , and as you say up the mighty Villa 💜💙

A fantastic interview. Enlightening to see the interviewer ask the questions that the fans want to hear and not the boring ones that are aimed at modern players. Dennis is a smashing fella and you can tell that he never gets tired of talking about his time at the club. I know that you were probably on a time restriction but there were things I would have loved to hear him talk about on the seasons after winning the European Cup. The break up of that great team and his eventual departure from the club, plus his sour relationship with Doug Ellis. Maybe a part two could be in order the next time you’re over!!!! Keep up the great work on what is the best AVFC RUclips channel by far!! UTV!!

Brilliant interview Pete 👏 Privileged to have been a regular during Dennis’ Villa career. Treated very poorly by certain sections of Villa hierarchy towards end of his career with us and after he retired. Thankfully this has been addressed in recent years. One of our great players from any generation 😊

As a kid born in 1972 come the early 1980's Gary shaw ..Tony Morley..and Dennis Mortimer were my Aston Villa childhood hero's
Great interview. I am Liverpool but always liked Villa. Many friends were Villa fans,and always got us tickets for Liverpool games at Villa Park. Dennis was a fantastic midfield general and great captain. I was delighted with their European Cup win.

Another brilliant interview, I could listen to these guys all day long about the glory days of the late 70’s and 80’s. I remember going to all three games of the 1977 cup final like it was yesterday!
Love these Pete. At 14 I was playing football with my mates at Hodge Hill School, about 4 miles from Villa Park. We heard Mortimer’s goal against Liverpool, we knew it was special. Thanks for the memories

What a wonderful chat (and production) I met him many times generally in Virgin Records, always had time for everyone. Denis and Phil Thompson both European Cup winning captain s who went to the same school, never happened again

Some footballers are a bit monosyballic and not terribly bright but Dennis comes across as a very deep thinking and intelligent man - a very good interview -
I remember Dennis making one of his trademark runs at QPR in 77 semi and he must have burnt 6000 calories on that run alone cos that pitch was a pudding...what determination and will !
Remember seeing him in Birmingham City Center, as a kid, I will always remember how sharply dressed he was.
Blimy i know i am old, when i say, i used to watch Dennis play at highfield road ( old man was a cov fan). He was a star then, then he joined the villa which i thought was a great signing.
