I have been watching The Brady Bunch on dvd lately and wanted to know more about Florence Henderson as a person. This was a good interview. May she rest in peace.
My dad used to watch this series when he was a kid. Then when me and my sisters were kids, he showed us the show and we loved it. Now as an adult I'm rewatching the show❤
As a life long Brady fan born just after it's cancellation I've never seen any contemporaneous interviews with the cast like this. To see Florence interviewed and to hear her talking about the Brady Bunch as the show is still being produced is a very rare gem.
Florence Henderson was very popular because of having been in the show as well as going on talk shows. She came off as a person not only as very pleasent, but someone who cares. I heard about when people met her on the street, she was more than cordial. She died about five years ago but when she did the tv show, she took the roll of Carol Brady, the mother, very seriously because she found out that due to the tv show and the way she was towards children in the show, some children saw her as a substitute mother and in their mind made that happen. Which actually did them throughout their lives. Someone told me that she was with her parents in a good restaurant and she noticed Florence Henderson was sitting at a table. She asked the mother if she could talk to her and the mother said yes, but wait until after she finishes eating. The child went to her and Florence Henderson immediately responded with love and care.
I loved the first year of the Brady Bunch. Nothing wrong with those stories as they were relatable to me and my friends who watched every Friday night.
the first season really was special. Sweet and heartwarming. Touching stories. And Carol is just like a fairy-tale mom. That's the show Sherwood wanted to make, that was his vision. I like the other seasons too, but the first is the heart of the show.
Florence was the first celebrity I ever saw. I was about 5 years old, and I was in the dining room at the Ojai Valley in and Country Club, and suddenly realized, Florence and her family were dining at the table next to us. Just regular people doing what we were doing. A good lesson for a 5 year old.
My mom met Florence during a ‘day of beauty’ in Kansas City at Swanson’s while she was in the South Pacific. She invited us back stage. It was an outdoor theater and extremely hot. My feet were so swollen and I was holding my sandals when I met Florence. Florence gave my mom a hero moment I will always cherish. 🌻
I loved her on The Brady Bunch ! She was a great actress ! I was age 13 till I was 18 when it was on and I used to watch it when it was on and in reruns too and reruns on cable too ! I got Cable TV in April or May of 1981 !
It was fantastic to see Florence Henderson on the DCS she's nothing like her Carol Brady character she's more realistic but she played her role fantastically great R.I.P to her 1934-2016 🌹 🌹 🌹 ❤️.
Neat how the band struck up "The Sound of Music". I think Florence Henderson was in a stage production of that. This interview is evidently from 1971 or 1972, because The Brady Bunch had already been to the Grand Canyon (1971), but hadn't yet been to Hawaii (1972). Florence Henderson was apparently a genuinely kind person. I love seeing her in The Brady Bunch.
Fascinating how in this 1972 appearance Florence is already discussing the friction between Robert Reed & the writers. Although she suggests having a hand in those script changes.
I give Florence Henderson credit for not wanting to be kissed. Richard Dawson was famous/infamous for doing that. If I were her, i wouldn't want to be kissed, either, especially without permission.
there is a site you can subscribe to where you can see all of his old shows including this one, I forget if you purchase them individually or collectively
I have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Art Carney or Jackie Gleason? I don’t have Decades.
Back then it seemed like Dick Cavette's show was a lot more authentic than most. I like how she pointed out the imperfections of the business. Hollywood kisses. The Brady Bunch was interesting. Growing up in Brooklyn that show was my window to White people or European Americans if you will;thought all White people was growing up perfect ,no shame. Until I moved to the suburbs. Trying to get to know some of the Caucasian kids. I had a bias way of looking at them. A lot had racist POV on things. It was strange. A lot of what happens today is because of lack of learning about each other History is twisted. So when I watch Good Times that was in my opinion a much better show than the Brady Bunch. I actually enjoyed some of the episodes of the Brady Bunch. Only when they kept it somewhat realistic. Robert Reed was exceptional as the Dad. The kids had it going on. Peter and Jan was my favorite. Peter was a bit rebellious. The House keeper kept it mellow. Not bad. Florence's character kept it light.
So the first Tiger tragically died during the first season after getting hit by a vehicle and the final Tiger was fired from the show after the trainer demanded too much money and a guarantee of 26 weeks. Show business sure was tough on animals back then.
have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like the other videos.
Took the show on the road in place of Mary Martin, who was too tired, too old, and not up to the arias that Henderson took to new heights. To Broadway fans, It was Henderson who was remembered as Maria von Trapp, years before the movie came out. NOT Julie Andrews
He was referring to the early popular 1950s TV show, The Goldbergs, about a Jewish family, but, yeah, its ironic that there is now another TV show also called The Goldbergs.
Florence was Maria von Trapp when Julie Andrews was still relatively unknown, at least to American audiences. To many who saw SOM on the stage, Henderson’s performance was so good there was no need to see Andrews star in the movie when it came out years later.
Yes I hate them. I didn't even know they had a name. Thank you for the info. I remember girls in my elementary school class had them in the 80s too and they looked horrible.
While the Brady Bunch Movie was being made Florence visited the set. Shelley Long was playing Carol. Florence looked at Shelley’s wig and said “What was I thinking?”
If you could interview Florence Henderson about her career, what would you ask her?
Mike or Greg?
About her work on the stage production of The Sound of Music.
What was it like doing the Christmas Through the Ages episode of the Bell Telephone Hour?
Were the Brady kids like a second set of kids?
What’s one thing you would’ve changed about Carol Brady’s character if you had the chance?
She was so gorgeous. I was so in love with her. Rest In Peace Florence.❤💐❤
Florence had a natural charm - the kind that sadly no longer exists. With her passing, a great deal is missing.
Ya right! She is a floosy

All of us who grew up Brady are very lucky.
I'd forgotten just how smart and BEAUTIFUL Miss Henderson was...💜
I loved the first year of the Brady Bunch. Nothing wrong with those stories as they were relatable to me and my friends who watched every Friday night.
The first season focused plenty of times on the blended family. Once it got to season #2 it was just another family sitcom.
@@Lava1964 The kids acted more natural after season 1.

What year was that?
@@florencehendersonfan3694 Early 70s. If it's important, I could probably get a year and a month based on some family photos from the same trip.
@@TheHarryChanne1 that would be great
Nice boots on Florence Henderson in 1971!

Thanks for that lovely image of your swollen feet. You could have left out that part and still given us a good memory lol

She’s so charming! And I literally LOL’d when she told Dick “we’re not interested in all that!”
She was very witty.

Yep, and that distinct '72 Florence Henderson mullet. Iconic!
And Song of Norway 1970
This was great, kind of as expected. Five minutes thirty, the bit about saying grace in two languages, was unexpected and a pleasant surprise.
Fascinating how in this 1972 appearance Florence is already discussing the friction between Robert Reed & the writers. Although she suggests having a hand in those script changes.
It's actually November 5, 1971
Love this. Thanks for the smile
I love the first two seasons of the Brady Bunch.
Thanks for this!
I love seeing interviews they had while the show was going on.
Sweet Lady,,, Loved the show
wow i grew up watching her...she's adorable in real life. I love her.
Good old fashioned flirting - love it
A true class act.
I give Florence Henderson credit for not wanting to be kissed. Richard Dawson was famous/infamous for doing that. If I were her, i wouldn't want to be kissed, either, especially without permission.
I was 3 months old when this first aired lol
I was 6 and in the first grade. That means I'm 57 now and you're, what...50 or 51?
I was two weeks old.
I was 2,863 days old
Florence was a great star and a great interview. Multi-talented, professional & beautiful but didn’t take herself too seriously. She was the best.
Florence💖💖💖💖💕💕💕
loved the Brady Bunch, mostly re runs.

Major flirting going on. All of her touching. Go Florence.
People used to be so lovely pre Oprah, rap, stretch pants... :)
This video reminds me of how much I hate rap
She was so insanely hot
Wonder why they played the Sound of Music soundtrack when Florence came in.
If I remember right, she performed onstage in that a handful of times in the 60s.
She played Maria on the first national tour (1959)
she was in the broadway cast
Thanks. Didn't know.

Great interview! There’s a tension there. Do they want to jump in bed, smack the heck out of on another, or both?
I thought that Florence Henderson was one of the youngest attractive mother on television.
Woooow, did anybody catch Cavett reference a show called the Goldbergs...Brady bunch was a ABC show....and so is the Goldbergs
I only came to the comment section to see if anyone else caught it.

I said the same thing. Kinda trips you up for a second when he says the goldbergs. To bad she couldn't have done a cameo on it.❤
As soon as Mrs Henderson appears music from Sound of music is played.
Maybe orchestra thought Julie Andrews was turning up.

Brady Bunch
Isn't that funny, he says you won't be the bradys youll be the goldbergs!! 40 or 50 years later we got the goldbergs!!❤😂
OMG: it's corny Carol! = Florence aged exceedingly well
For a intellectual, at times, he does not act like one.
Florence could cover me with all the Florence germs she wanted, meow Meow ❤
Absolutely delicious 😊
Florence was quite riske!
Love how she embraced Judaism. Would have been great to see her incorporate some of the expressions she does here on the show.
Funny that they mention that the Jewish version of The Brady Bunch could be called "The Goldbergs." Time made that come true!
Nerdy Flirting…The Goldbergs?…
Cavett was such a flirt. See his interviews with Janis Joplin
Tiger was hit by a delivery truck
I think these are the male/female comparison of one another.
Wow! In the 1970s talk shows were really weird. What an uncomfortable vibe.
Cavett is really being a jerk...What's up with that?
what a cringe interview......geez
