Florence Henderson became determined when she began to the show to be a real mom and a role model because she grew up in a dysfunctional family.. She actually did love the children in the show as well as her own. She had four of them. She sung year after year, the National Anthem at the Indianapolis 500. She wanted to do something for the United States and act as a role model to help children in general that would see the show. She was highly patriotic. She broke the chain of passing her bad childhood on to her children.

Florence was so accomplished in so many areas. Even hypnotherapy. What an inspiring person. She really represents that can-do Spirit of America that the United States used to be known for: positive, practical, creative, entrepreneurial and just always willing to try new things and stay open-minded. Despite feminists criticising the Carol Brady character as regressive, Florence was a wonderful example of modern day womanhood in action. She surmounted a poor childhood, the youngest of 10 siblings, a hearing disorder and coming from Dale, Indiana to become a famous, working actress and performer. We miss you, Carol Brady and we really miss you, Flo.

I was confused by something. She said her father died when she was 16. Then she said she went to New York when she was 18 and starred in a play there. Then she couldn't go to her father's funeral because she was in the play and she didn't have an understudy who could take over. I was totally confused by this. So did he die when she was 16 or later? Or was there some detail I missed?

Fascinating woman and talented performer, beloved by her peers and fans alike, there was no one else quite like her. She was our 2nd mom to a whole generation of kids who grew up with The Brady Bunch. Humble to a fault, I wonder if she ever really knew just how special she was to so many people in the world.
