Mr. Munro, it is people like you that keep the fire to the toes of the automakers to keep on innovating and make our cars better and safer. Thank you for all your work and also for the excellent team that surrounds you.
An engineer analyzing cars being torn down on a public platform will force automakers to make better products for us. Very different than your standard magazine/internet review that gives a subjective opinion on how a new car feels on the road. In reality though, most cars only have to impress reviewers and last as long as their power train and they might already be there. Love the content! Keep it up! I tipped my cashier!

@@MunroLive Just a friendly note to let you know that I'm reasonably sure that you need to be careful how you do a raffle on Patreon. Most of the time they're against the TOS because Patreon, quite sensibly, doesn't want to have to deal with all of the legal overhead that would come from being deemed a gambling platform by a jurisdiction that either a winner or creator comes from because there are so many different rules for different places that trying to learn them all and then sort out how to conform to all of them is difficult to impossible. I believe that you can offer raffles while you have a Patreon account but you can't have it as a thing a Patron is entered into as a benefit of being a Patron. If you do go that route, you might want to exclude entries from jurisdictions whose gambling, raffle, lottery, and fundraising rules you may be unfamiliar with just so you don't end up with problems down the road. For example, IIRC, there are some jurisdictions in which you need to get a permit to offer a raffle ticket to people who're in that region, with penalties for breaking the law that can be more than trivial. I should note that I am not a lawyer, and this does not constitute legal advice, merely things that I've read reported.
@@MunroLive Please consider a $1 tier on Patreon. I want to support many creators with $1 each rather than a few with higher tiers. The $1 tier wouldn't need any perks, I'd do it just to show support.
@@markusstrobl1067 You can actually just set a custom $1 pledge if you like. Assuming that you're on a computer, if you scroll down far enough that you're past the "About" section, a floating title bar appears at the top of the window with a "Become a Patron" button on the right side. Click this and then click "Make a custom pledge", which should be below the tiers, then set your pledge, minimum $1, then check out with your preferred payment option. I have a bunch of $1 pledges myself. It fits more with the rate at which I normally support authors - about the price of a softcover book a year, and they get much more of that than they do when I buy a book. Something that I would like to see from Patreon is memberships at different term lengths. For some things six months or a year would make more sense, and would reduce their processing costs.

More than the Y being amazing it's the 3 that was bad in some construction aspect, period. Tesla is getting at the level of the others with construction techniques, it's nothing special. Where they actually are far far better than anyone else is the BMS and the motors, and that was already evident on the 3.
They would've never made it this far without the innovation they have (I mean, the welds are not the innovation, but maybe how fast they've improved on them, maybe not)
@@luca7069 Of course its special. They have improved very fast. Their 1st mass market car was just 8 years ago. Model Y is culmination of 3 cars which came before it.
Thank you Sandy for sharing your knowledge and particular your insights on the model Y. I've viewed all of your video's on the model Y analysis, and I get a strong impression that Tesla made enormous progress on every aspect of the design and production process.
Great analysis! I really appreciate that you're taking the time to record and share your findings. Very educational while also being interesting! Thanks PS: sort out patreon!
Sandy, you had my attention when the CPU was described as "SPECTACULAR' on the M'3'. Not once but twice. I can't wait to hear the superlative, for the new version on the Model 'Y'. Now, you being an instructor, I think you're ready to give this build an A+. I hope you get a 'Frankenstang' soon, for a side by side comparison.
Sandy, you're doing a wonderful job explaining the things we don't see when buying a car. As of today, I would prefer a Model Y over a Model III. The problem with all companies growing fast, that there is a point, where innovation drops off for giving shareholders more dividends... That is usually when some lawyer takes over and in her or his ignorance stops listening to the customers, and only to the big investors... BAD CHOICE. The bigger the company the less they care about customers!
Before 1988 we were dabbling with Synergic MIG welding, it had a tight control loop on the wire feed speed using the arc voltage to keep a consistent distance, and hence power, in the arc. It made hand welding quality much easier to achieve on aluminium. Then in the mid 80's for the stainless steel we had plasma welding which created the weld pool from a sacrificial lip on the work piece. This made the neatest weld I've seen. I guess the technology and the control systems available now will be leagues ahead of that.
"When someone can teach a complex topic with ease, it means they are an expert" - I get the impression Sandy has _forgotten_ more about automotive production than most modern teams know. Love this stuff and thank you Munro team!
Super interesting to see the laser welds, I spend my days arc welding and resistance welding aluminum and have never been exposed to laser welds, off to research. Then to bid/ whatever the signed parts.
Well i'm engineer that works for different automotive company and unfortunately in final assembly and not in body shop ..and i like this video..and you are right about many things.we are still using those old kind of welds..and you can be sure how crazy it gets when you have holes all over the place..well maybe hole isn't the exact name .i think when you weld those materials together you will get lower spots where water could go throu..or some other crazy stuff...also the screw you mentioned..that is common i have to say..designer didn't think or didn't think it would be better for ppl in production to make it easier..so they will come up with two or 3 types ob bolts..then you have to change sockets...and then it takes years to correct it..instead to use simple rules ..make it better for production to be able assembly it easier..faster..cheaper..with less tools ..less waste and so on..
The various "tailored blanks" may be assemblies of various metal composition as well. Ductibor and Usibor, boron based metals, are the two most common metals used for this application in conjunction with hot stamping.

@Munro As you correctly pointed out, most of us are fairly young (Tesla has a habit of attracting young folk). If i might offer a piece of advice: hire a social media manager (if you didn't already). Your company and persona have great media potential as the leading : 1) Tesla critic 2) Lens for average people to understand the engineering inside a (mostly Tesla) product 3) Narrator of the evolution, the Tesla engineering has undergone If you were to optimize these things, you might find yourself to be even more of a target for talented engineers job applications (which is something you care about as i understand, less about the fame) Also as another source of revenue of course. These days people spend even more time online. Just live stream your work on Twitch.tv or something like that. Greetings from germany

Sandy, thanks for putting these videos together. Please consider adding a link where people can donate money to you directly. In addition to tipping cashiers I would like to be able to tip for these videos. You're probably right that your viewers are mostly engineers but we're not all "cheap." :)
Great job Sandy! Thanks for doing this. I will bid for my favorite part
I cant wait for the mach e teardown, I have this eerie feeling they are going to cut corners
cutting corners -no need?? they build in Mexico - We shall see IF any one will pay for tear down.
How many will Ford have to sell for anyone to care?
Will/can Mach E win some award to out shine Tesla? Anyone want to tear down the second best seller?? consider Nissan Leaf #1 seller for years & no one cared to tear down.
@@brandoYT Munro has a Leaf torn down... at least I'm sure they've done the drivetrain, he was comparing it in an earlier video with the Volt and Tesla motors.
All good stuff ;-) Love that. Great work, once again. Thanks for sharing, Sandy and Team!
These shows are great, and so educational. I'd like to see them continued for years to come. What would more cool than Sandy walking us through a a few manufacturing plants in a series of videos? It's an insider's look at the industry that nobody else can offer.
Also, I'd like to be able to buy Munro & Associates tee-shirts and other merchandise to help you through this tough spell.I think that should be a permanent thing. Also, I recommend doing what John McEnroe did over at Autoline. Offer a Patreon link so we can donate to the team.
We've already got a Patreon set up! Patreon.com/MunroLive Thanks for tuning in!
Looks like Tesla is learning fast. In only a couple years there’s been a huge improvement in manufacturing
What you see now is the work of industrial designers .
First! 😊 I hope Tesla engineers follow this channel and consider the points you make on all these videos.
Second!
I don't doubt that they do.
aaaallll of them watching, not just tesla...this is engineering gold mine for free
Hope they won't
They can learn a lot from industrial designers !
Thank you Sandy for sharing your knowledge and particular your insights on the model Y. I've viewed all of your video's on the model Y analysis, and I get a strong impression that Tesla made enormous progress on every aspect of the design and production process.
A new teardown video was just posted? Time to pour myself a bowl of cereal and gobble up another great Munrolive video !
Thanks for providing edutainment during the pandemic!:)
Great analysis! I really appreciate that you're taking the time to record and share your findings. Very educational while also being interesting!
Thanks
PS: sort out patreon!
Thanks for tuning in, Ollie! Patreon group is up and growing at Patreon.com/MunroLive - we'd love to see you join the community!
"So that means this is a collector's item. So get your bids in in a hurry..." Priceless.
Sandy, you had my attention when the CPU was described as "SPECTACULAR' on the M'3'. Not once but twice.
I can't wait to hear the superlative, for the new version on the Model 'Y'. Now, you being an instructor, I think
you're ready to give this build an A+.
I’m not an engineer but I can’t stop watching these! Very interesting
You just have to be a regular Tesla customer to watch these :-)
Thank you and supported. I still have my job. Doing my part for you to keep yours.
Thanks for posting don't ever stop
Great insight, we love this vindow into your great knowledge!
"When someone can teach a complex topic with ease, it means they are an expert" - I get the impression Sandy has _forgotten_ more about automotive production than most modern teams know. Love this stuff and thank you Munro team!
Good job on making longer video's 10 minutes + you guys can add ads to make more revenue on this channel 🙋♂️.. I'll still watch!!
Super interesting to see the laser welds, I spend my days arc welding and resistance welding aluminum and have never been exposed to laser welds, off to research. Then to bid/ whatever the signed parts.
Thanks Mr. Munro for these engineering insights
More videos per day!! Love these so much. Thank you
This is extremely informative and will help me decide which EV I should end up purchasing in the future.
Bought a raffle and joined the patreon. Go Sandy!
3:40 when sandy breaks out the marker and you understand 10 times better!!🤯🚀
I learn so much watching your videos. Than you sir!
Cough sounds better / lessened! Hope you are feeling better. Thanks for the videos.
Can't wait for the motor analysis
Thank you for sharing Sandy! So educational and amazing
The side by side comparison is super helpful. It is almost like the 2017 M3 vs 2020 M3 has 25% common parts. Thank you again.
They have a lot more common parts.
This is my new favorite channel
Rich rebuild has got a new project!
ALWAYS great updates/ comparison 🧐
That raffle idea is awesome!
The various "tailored blanks" may be assemblies of various metal composition as well. Ductibor and Usibor, boron based metals, are the two most common metals used for this application in conjunction with hot stamping.
Yep, absolutely! Thanks for tuning in!
Good work Sandy!!
Great break down sandy but you should mention Patreon in your next video!!!
Great. Another car I really want but I can't afford :).
Regardless, 3 cheers for Sandy and his team for this awesome breakdown.
I donated $20 (4x$5) to you a week ago, because i want you to continue this series of tear down and analysis! I think I will donate on a regular basis Orhers should do so too!
Thanks so much for your support and for tuning in! We'll make sure that those donations retroactively count as tickets in the raffle.
Munro Live i don’t need anything else then you making great content :)
@Munro As you correctly pointed out, most of us are fairly young (Tesla has a habit of attracting young folk). If i might offer a piece of advice: hire a social media manager (if you didn't already). Your company and persona have great media potential as the leading :
1) Tesla critic
2) Lens for average people to understand the engineering inside a (mostly Tesla) product
3) Narrator of the evolution, the Tesla engineering has undergone
If you were to optimize these things, you might find yourself to be even more of a target for talented engineers job applications (which is something you care about as i understand, less about the fame)
Also as another source of revenue of course. These days people spend even more time online. Just live stream your work on Twitch.tv or something like that.
Greetings from germany
Yes, most of us are under 60.
Loved it thanks for the video - I will be bidding!
By far the smartest guy on Tesla reviews
Hoping that you will go through the roof glass and its strength. Really enjoying seeing how my future car is built once this COVID thing settles down and hope to still have a job to buy one!
