the interior for me is the worst part... i can understand paint imperfections like dust nibs and scuffs from transporting and improper washing at dealerships , but miss aligned exterior panels , interior trim loose and miss aligned , liner on the sun visor sagging , dome lights improper instillation , rear seat not folding down like it should , i wouldn't have accepted delivery without those issues being fixed first. especially on a midsize car that costs $55,990. in the midsize cross over class 56k can buy you alot higher quality elsewhere.

And my concern is that the quality control problems are probably not limited to cosmetic issues.
If you've got assembly issues on simple plastic components and things like that. You have to wonder about what issues might be lurking in more mechanical and electrical stuff.
You can tell that Tesla is definitely a technology company more than a auto manufacturer.
You could go buy the cheapest Hyundai Accent and not have these kind of defects on the exterior or interior.
On a $60,000 car this is absolutely ridiculous.
I like Tesla's in many ways they're fast and they get a lot of things right but they definitely have issues in this area.
And at this point they are 8 years into this and still haven't figured out how to get these minor defects caught before the car leaves the factory.

And I hear stuff like that a lot., I think overall they're basically reliable but the cost to repair out-of-pocket if it wasn't covered under warranty is just astronomical. A door handle cost over $900. CV axles which are a common fail in the Model X are $850 each. I can get a door handle for my Prius for 50 bucks and a drive axle for 60 bucks. I realize it's not the same class of car but that would be true with a Camry or a RAV4 or a sienna or any other vehicle.
If I do go electric I'm leaning more towards either a used Chevrolet Bolt EV or perhaps a new one if they're offering deep discounts. I'd love to get a Hyundai Kona or Kia e niro but you can't find them.
what's crazy is the bolt EV actually has more rear legroom and headroom than a Model 3. And the front seats are decent also although their little thin and some people complain about them being uncomfortable. Supposedly 2019-2020 they resolve that issue and I think 2021 the car is going to get a complete redo interior and exterior

LotusLambo sorry to burst your bubble bud but I like Teslas for the following reasons:
      Insane performance per dollar
      Best driving tech
      Best interface
      Simple interior
      Charging network
      Mobile rangers
I’ve owned many high performance vehicles and most of them were also luxury. Had more fun driving my performance model 3 than all of them. I’ve also spent next to nothing over 60k miles besides tires. I’m swapping to a model Y performance but if not for that, I’d have zero concerns trying to drive my car for 440,000 miles more. Show me the BMW, Mercedes, Lexus or anything else that I won’t have spent 50%+ of the MSRP fueling and maintaining over that amount of miles. Likely double in fact as mechanics for ICE vehicles stop being a thing over the next couple decades.
I’m either adding a Bronco or Jeep to our family Later this year or early next and then I’m adding a Cybertruck and that’s it for me and my wife for life. I know both Teslas will last for as many miles as We will drive the rest of the way and we’re not even 40. All three vehicles will be relatively timeless by design so the temptation to replace will likely never be there. In other words in the car world these are the best investments.
I’m in the solar business, so all of my fuel comes from my roof except for supercharging and I’ve referred enough people that It’ll be years of road trips before i pay $.01 to charge.

But they’ve been very impressed with everything else about the Model Y, even blown away with some of the advanced tech they found, saying that no other manufacturer does some of the things he found in the Model Y. Pretty normal actually, in the new taycan we had lots of panel gap issues. The e tron has issues with the speakers in the a pillar. They sometimes look like they are falling off. So it is pretty common for cars to be produced like this. Usually the dealer will take care of this. Oh and btw, the dealer never details the car. Every bmw, audi, vw, Porsche, mercedes etc. Car dealer brings them to a local detailer.

    • @vir042

I thought Tesla didnt do negotiation pretty much? No matter what you say the price is the price or else just don't buy it. That might just be because I never bought a Tesla that I dont know how it's really done though.. I also agree that lots of cars have those outside marks, but I think the inside here looked pretty bad honestly.. I think thats pretty common for the first 1000-2000 or so teslas of each production line though and after that they seem to get it better over time. (not talking about alignment or dust in the paint now but rather big flaws in the interior).

No matter how much of a fan you are, you have to recognize its ridiculous to have these problems on a car that costs 70k. All its plussides don't excuse the fact that a 25k Kia has better quality...
Upping the price from 70 to 75k doesn't fix anything. They simply don't have the time or capacity to finish these cars properly. They have to be pushed out asap in order for the company not to go bankrupt
