    Machu Picchu, Peru - DON'T Make This Mistake!
    Sometimes things don't go like we plan. But that doesn't mean it's all bad. Our Machu Picchu adventure started on a very wet morning in Aguas Calientes. I'll admit I wasn't super happy about the rain and the cloudy weather. It all turned out great in the end though

    Have you ever had rain or unforeseen circumstances ruin an outing? How did you deal with it?

    • @theperuchannel
      @theperuchannel Год назад

      I have an poncho that's big enough to cover a backpack, too, that I always carry if there's the slightest chance of rain. In almost 50 trips to MaPi, I've only gone up in light mist a couple of times, but I'm a bit of a baby and have decided not to go sometimes when it was raining harder. (My tickets cost a lot less than normal.) Those super-lightweight ponchos they sell fall apart really easily. I only use them when I'm in the lower rainforest where it's hotter and less windy.

    I cried when you had to leave without seeing the classic view. Then I cried again when you got another ticket to return and then I cried again to see you standing in front of the classic view. Your face said it all. I cried once more. So happy for you. Thanks for sharing your journey.

    This may be my favorite MaPi video ever -- and I've seen almost all of them. Your video work was breathtaking and you didn't try to pretend to know everything like so many people who go there once, listen to a bad guide, and think they know everything.
    I'm so glad you got another chance to visit. I'm luck enough to go all the time -- 15 times already this year and probably more than anyone except the workers over the past few years -- and have four trips to Machu Picchu coming the next two weeks. The weather you had is by far my favorite for getting beautiful shots of the site. Obviously, the weather on your first trip wasn't great for a lot of things, but the atmospherics of the fog make for some breathtaking shots.
    You did an amazing job with this video. The shots were as consistently breathtaking as any I've ever seen by anyone.
    Thank you so much for sharing it. I'm definitely going to subscribe and check out your other videos. (Thanks also for sharing your gear list. I do a lot of filming at the site and especially in the jungle below where I spend a lot of time so it's always interesting to see what other people are using.)

      Thank you. This means a lot coming from someone who visits so frequently. I definitely hope to return. I would love to backpack there next time.

    I'm going there the first week in June. I booked for two days just in case the weather is an issue. Definitely worth the extra $45 for an additional ticket to see. I'll be staying in Aguas Calientes for teo nights as well. I can't wait!

    I am interrupting @4:42: You called this a "problem". It was NOT a problem, it was a choice, your choice. That is why people stay on top for the mist to clear. You are a "typical American." Great view when you got to see it.

    I could truly feel your disappointment...in the first minutes of the video, 'cause we had the same experience in Madeira, at the most famous hike... couldn't see a thing😭😭 So HAPPY you could see something in the end!! I think i would have cried my ass off to be there and could not see the iconic view :)))When have you been there? Cause i'm planning my honeymoon there at the end of November 😶‍🌫

    Wow! Machu Picchu is high on my bucket list. Happy for you that you went back. Can't imagine not seeing that view. Do you know the best time of year to go there?

    • @OurMillionAdventures
      @OurMillionAdventures  Год назад

      Good question, I know that you are less likely to have the issue I did during the dry season which is May through October, but weather can be unpredictable in the Andes.

      @@OurMillionAdventures Thank you.

    • @theperuchannel
      @theperuchannel Год назад

      The dry season -- generally May through September give or take a little -- is the least likely time to have rain, but it's also the busiest. I go once or twice a month and can promise that it can rain any day of the year. You simply never know when rain clouds will come over the mountains to the east as Machu Picchu is in the rainforest.

    I know how you feel about the clouds on your scheduled time.
    There needs to be a way for visitors to express our concerns about such a narrow time slot.

    So sad there is circuits now.

  • @rookiemaquillage

    How much does a ticket cost?
    Which month did you go? I thought it's dry season there now.
    Did you have to wear a mask while outdoors? It isn't good to wear a wet mask.

    • @OurMillionAdventures
      @OurMillionAdventures  Год назад +2

      Tickets are 45 dollars. We went at the beginning of May and it was definitely not dry 😉. As far as masks we just had to wear them on the bus and train, not outside. I just forgot to take it off.

    • @theperuchannel
      @theperuchannel Год назад +3

      The mask rules are no longer in effect anywhere in Peru so you don't have to worry about that. Even in the dry season it can rain any day because Machu Picchu is located in the high rainforest. It's just less likely in the dry season and it's often spotty and quick. Morning fog is extremely common almost any day of the year.

    It might have been worthwhile to hire a guide. He might have suggested another path early and then knew of a way to get around again for the photo op.
