    We purchased the Jolion - after test driving a few models of SUV - found the amount of features etc you get as standard for the price - far outweighed the Kona and others. More room inside the Jolion for sure - as I'm 6ft 3" - it fits me front and rear with ease and comfort. We've been getting 5.9L per 100km fuel consumption. Considering how quickly Haval update and improve their vehicles - can't wait to see what they come out with next. Absolutely love the Jolion - no buyers remorse here! :)

    Kona's top-end variant is $9k-10k higher compared to Jolion Ultra hybrid, that too gets you a much smaller car across all dimensions. Pay $5k more and you get H6 Ultra Hybrid which is better than a Hyundai Tuscon let alone Kona. Choice is simple

  • @TheHayabusa09

    By adding the 'premium pack' to the Kona to get almost similiar specs to the Haval, your already nudging $50k. At $41k drive away, the Haval is unbeatable for value. Plus, the added infuriating safety warning alerts in the Kona would drive me insane!

    Excellent review, thanks Tom. Very comprehensive and clearly articulated. I’ve ordered a Kona Hybrid Premium in the same dark blue colour as your test car, but with the optional light grey leather interior and sunroof. I really like that Hyundai have stuck with physical controls for the major interior functions while still providing all the modern tech expected in cars today, although I can’t say I’m a fan of the over-zealous “safety” alerts. Hopefully they’ll come up with an OTA update to improve those systems in the near future. I’m looking forward to picking it up in a couple of weeks after a 5 month wait.

      I went with the Hybrid Premium, but with N-Line as well (Oh and the boldest colour choice in the lineup). Ordered in the last few weeks of December, have 6-9 months (well now closer to 5-8 as we are in February.)

    I love comparison reviews like this but wonder whether brand reliability & after sales support should be a factor? Toyota seems to get bonus points for this from reviewers but no love for Hyundai? Find me a mechanic that would recommend a haval over a Hyundai….

    Chinese manufacturers have always supplied German car manufacturers.
    The parts in the Haval Jolion HEV are Bocsh. I guess the tables have turned.
    Time for people to wake up and smell the Chow Mein.

    Between the two I would take the ICE Jolion as its cheaper and you can get 6 or 6.5/100kml(which isnt a monumental difference to justify the gap between the non hybrid and the hybrid), you also get a spare and another level in the boot. The Kona while more fuel efficient makes you pay dearly for every feature it has when compared with the Haval. You also didnt mention EV only driving range which the Haval does pretty well on.

    • @sidjyothi
      @sidjyothi Год назад +2

      The ICE jolion gets nowhere near 6.5l/100. More realistically 9.1L/100

    Prefer Kona but annoying nanny safety systems push it out...shame the Koreans don't have a simple single switch off button. 41% of drivers turn off these systems.

    The Kona looks like what a second generation Pontiac Aztec might have looked like. Trashy badging spoils the Haval, but without that, it would be very anonymous. I would have... neither of them.

    Externally the Kona looks hideous, especially those wheel arches. ‘Cool’ is such a childish, nondescript word to describe something, the reviewer should endeavour to be more descriptive. Internally, from a visual perspective the Kona, in my opinion really isn’t impressive. Fuel consumption in both vehicles but especially the Kona was really low.

    Had a look at 40k entry Kona Hybrid today, it's embarrassing how bad the interior looks for those $40k. Hyundai will see falling sales with what they offer in affordable range, they believe they can charge European prices for their cars.
