Likely there's clear evidence of Ryan participating in activities he would not be able to if he in fact had a hip injury and they're disputing his contract due to faking an injury.

      At forward they’re developing talent pool is in good shape. They’re also in good shape in goal. On defense is where their development pool is lacking in terms of guys that are only 1-2 years away. Lidstein is the only guy in that category with top-4 potential. (I don’t see Perunovich, Kessel, or Tucker as anything but potential bottom pairing guys.) This allows us to be cap compliant without Kane on LTIR to start the season which means(depending on other injuries) we can accrue cap space for the deadline. I think Emberson is actually a decent bet, posting good underlying metrics on a brutal sharks team and also being a natural right side. Podkolizin is no Holloway, but we have guys like Lavoie and Savoie who I think could fill that role sooner rather than later. Great move by the Blues and I think the right move by the Oilers. They have to approach it from the standpoint of Draisaitl and Bouchard being up for contract next season, if they resigned both players it would really hamper their ability to keep both Drai and Bouch next offseason. For the Blues if they can get the Holloway and Broberg that showed up these last playoffs and have them perform tbat way consistently then the assets given up are more than worth it. There is a world this works out for both teams in the end despite the taboo around offer sheets.

      The only reason that both Broberg and Holloway accepted the offer sheets was greed. There definitely wasn't any loyalty to the Oilers. Broberg was looking for a trade, and he knew the Oilers would have given him a lower value two-way 'bridge' contract, so he jumped when STL offered all that money on a one way contract. Broberg would have been poison in the Oilers' dressing room anyways. Holloway was also going to get a low value two-way 'bridge' contract; he had the option of rejecting the offer sheet, but he showed his loyalty to the Oilers by accepting. He was hoping to force the Oilers into matching the offer. He gambled, but it was a win-win situation, as far as he was concerned.

Fact is, Broberg and Holloway for $7m is just too much money and letting them go gives us a lot more cap flexibility to wait and see what exactly we'll need or who may be available. I think the Oilers, after moving Ceci, threatened the Blues with matching one or both players so St. Louis gave them the player and additional pick to back off.
    Our blueline is slightly worse, no doubt, but Broberg at $4.5m either plays 3LHD (then, where does Kulak go?) or plays on his off-side at 2RHD. Neither is ideal.

Broberg's agent said multiple teams were moving on offer sheets and I think the Oilers tried their best to sign him for what they could afford, and Broberg clearly wanted more money and responsibility sooner than Edmonton could offer, so to me it was all kind of an inevitability. Oilers are building a team first culture. Broberg and Holloway clearly wanted no part of that and they signed offer sheets turning the screws on the team that developed them. No way the Oilers were matching those offers. You just can’t overpay tweeners when you are expecting team friendly deals from your core.
    Broberg couldn’t break into a defence core that had Ceci and Deharnais on it. Think about that for a minute. The Blues are now paying him 4.5 mm a year!
    He was a promising player and may develop into something special. In two years time we get to watch him ask for more money or not receive a qualifying offer from the Blues. The guy has 92 games of protected minutes playing for the Oilers. He is a smooth skater but has no sandpaper in his game. He will get pushed off the puck and not deal well with net front pressure.
    Holloway has been hurt every season. Plays similar to Taylor Hall and exposes himself to getting hit. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him hurt during training camp

    As a fan of offer sheets, I do not like the "aww shucks, we gotcha, but we feel bad about it," bonus trade at all. Finally, an offer sheet strategy checks all the boxes, and... he couldn't leave it alone. The acquiring team is already paying a price for the tactic on two fronts - they handed over the exact draft pick compensation that the league policy requires, AND they are overpaying the two players by double... on spec! This is one of those classic moves where you finally grow a pair and put your own organization first, but instead of recognizing your own risk taken in the transaction... you apologize for it? It leaves the impression that the mandated compensation was not enough. That'll do wonders for future offer sheets.

    • @NatsdadsamI
      @NatsdadsamI 22 дня назад

      It's clear the original offer was not appropriate, even with the AAVs for each player. SL had to make the offer attractive enough for both players to want to sacrifice a few years of actually winning the cup, for, "build back better" and maybe in a few years we could be challengers. Guess it's about what's important, and clearly for these two, it's about making as much money as possible as quickly as possible. Certainly can't blame either for accepting.

    • @Marixa1979
      @Marixa1979 22 дня назад +1

      I don't know how it could be a much weaker defensive core when the only subtractions were Ceci and Desharnais from the regular roster last year. 3 weeks ago, Ceci was regarded as a terrible defenseman, and now that he's gone his value has somehow risen to a huge loss. Broberg was good in a small sample size in the playoffs, but he was also healthy when everyone else was pretty beat up, not sure how much that factors in. It's currently August and I think we all can agree that the Oilers are likely going to make a few more moves before the season starts(Thinking maybe Andersson from Calgary and signing Barrie to a league min deal), but I'd be comfortable with the Oilers defense as it is right now. @1:19 the blues dont have a lot of good young prospects? lol what? You’re kidding right? Blues are loaded with young potential. Maybe not nhl ready defense this year (but they won’t need it with the log jam that they now have) but they’re going to have Zach Dean, Dalibor Dvorsky, Zack Bolduc competing this year for roster spots on offense. What are you even talking about lol

      Right. The Hockey News rated their prospects the 4th best in the league back in February.

    Two potentially good players, but the Oilers can't afford to overpay(still dealing with Nurse). Good move for both teams.

    Oilers are fine. A bottom 6 forward and bottom 4 dman at those prices don’t fit if they want to win the cup

      @KiraKovalyova Would be seriously outkicking the coverage, but we'd take it. Someone here asked about him being like Pronger and everyone was like 'wooah dude, slow down a sec.
      Would be very happy if he's just a #3-4 with afew years in him. we have been mostly picking forwerds for a few years now, so those are stacked up but the D is aging up.and the kids (lindstein looks really good) are a ways away

      If they progress it is, if they fail miserably then it a terrible move.

      @rayflojenkins8689 there's really no risk for st.louis. if neither pans out they pay em for 2 years and they're gone. They're not in a position to spend or add high end guys and won't be until those deals are done.

    It would be a crap ton easier on the hearts, minds, and hockey souls of Canucks fans (Day 1 ...1970 here) if the ownership/management brain trust came clean as to what TDem's injury was and why the doubt as to his readiness for camp and the 24/25 season... seems really kind of dumb now that they let Casey DeSmith walk like they did.

    The Blues don't have a lot of good young players coming up? We have 10 first-round picks between 2019-2025 drafts now. Snuggs is gonna surpirse at the end of the season, y'all.
