    Hey everyone just a little heads up, I am working on a slightly modified V2.0 of my camera rig design. The assembly will be the same, but the new one will fit larger phones a little bit better. I will update this comment when that version is ready. Thanks for watching!

      Glad you learned something new! Pausing a print to install hardware, magnets, etc. is a great way to add internal features to a design that otherwise would be difficult or impossible to do otherwise. Thanks for watching!

    Really Great project. Very simple and doable for all levels of 3D printing fans. As a suggestion, I would think you might want to redesign the bottom plate to reposition the cell phone holder forward of the grips. The way it is designed, I think the average person will continuously be putting their fingers in front of the camera lens as they go about their filming duties-opening and closing their fingers around the grips for comfort and positioning. As a secondary benefit, it would also make the bottom plate deeper front to back, which would allow for it to be more easily set on a flat surface and used as a impromptu camera stand.
    Thanks again for sharing the project and I look forward to watching your other videos.

      I'm glad you liked it. I want this channel to be a place for projects that range from simple things anyone can do, all the way up to some really advanced stuff for the more "seasoned" creators. The version 2.0 I have been alluding to in both my pinned comment and a few replies is exactly what I was planning for that redesign. I am hoping to get around to doing it this weekend if I have time. Between work, hurricane Helene hitting last weekend, and a large time sensitive project I am in the middle of, I just haven't had the time to sit down to work on it yet. Thank you so much for watching. I have some fun things planned for the channel that I look forward to sharing with everyone!

    Subscribed! Great video, great rig. I want to print this for my gf. She does amazing wildlife photography (small things, think Macro) and this would be great for her. Also, after getting my 3rd printer (CR1 SE) I’m finally at the point I’m looking to design my own pieces. So videos like this, will definitely help in that trajectory. Bonus, you sharing the STL’s is great but the Step’s even better. Thank you for sharing your work. Looking forward to more. Regarding your comment on the next iteration being bigger, I’m assuming just lengthening the upper and lower support bars would give more room for the camera, then doing the same for the handles? Anyway, one question. I really enjoyed embedding the nuts. Given that, why didn’t you do the same for the mounts? Aka, why go with heat inserts there? Again, great work. Thanks!

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for subscribing! I always share my step files whenever possible, that way people can more easily modify my designs for their specific needs. The next version might actually end up being a tiny bit smaller, but the handles will be at a slight offset angle to avoid the possibility of your hand getting in the way of the camera on some phones. I used heat inserts because there wasn't any point in using large 1/4-20 screws for the cold shoe adapter plate (it would have been bulky and ugly). I didn't have any smaller nuts/screws for that part, but like many of us with 3D printers, I had a ton of heat set inserts laying around. That being said, with the included step files it would be very easy to modify it to use whatever hardware you would like. Thanks again for watching and subscribing! My upload schedule is a bit slower than I would like, but I have some fun videos planned and look forward to hopefully seeing you in the comment section again soon!

    Hey! Look up the BeastGrip mount. It's pretty similar in principle, and will give you ideas on how to add support for external Lenses, commonly available from old SLR and DOF cameras.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  3 месяца назад

      I have seen those. They are pretty cool but also very expensive. This project is meant to be very simple, easy to make, and inexpensive project. That being said there are products on Amazon that have the same functionality and price point as what I designed. At the end of the day it is almost never cheaper to go the DIY route for most things (there are obviously exceptions to this). Most DIY projects are DIY for the sake of being DIY (How many times can I say DIY in one comment 😂). Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching. Unfortunately due to hurricane Helene and hurricane Milton my upload schedule has been delayed a bit, but I have something really fun planned for the next video!

    Nice project! But wait a second, when you needed to make it smaller, why didn't you just go back in timeline and change existing features? It seems you added new features to make it smaller? Also, could be useful to have handles with slots (or second screw on one end) so that they cannot be accidentally force-rotated by hand.

      I designed it late at night while enjoying some well deserved adult beverages, so it is 100% possible I did not do some things in the most efficient way possible while working in Fusion 360. I was a wee bit wobbly by the time I finished designing it haha. As for the possibility of the handles rotating without anything locking them in place, you could always use a bit of thread lock to help keep everything from coming loose. That being said after about 3 weeks of use I have yet to have that happen to me, but your milage may vary. I meant to make a note of optionally using some Loctite in the video but I must have forgotten. Anyways, Thanks for watching!

    My 2 cents: By default, Slicer shows a fully "completed" layer. That's why you think it's "already closed/sealed" and you can't put any nuts/magnets/objects in it. But the printer always pauses BEFORE starting/completing that particular layer. In other words, you could (and should) "add pause" at layer 34, not 33 (as you did) for the first pocket and at layer 661 and not 660 for the top pocket. Is this absolutely necessary? No, but it could ruin your print or even damage your tool head. How? If your layer height is greater than 0.2mm AND your z-hop isn't there or is too low... your nozzle could collide with the nut/magnet/object since you're printing the second to last layer.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  3 месяца назад

      You are absolutely correct. That is why I always make my pockets a little deeper than they need to be. It is hard to see in the video, but there is actually a pretty decent gap between the top of the nut and the top level of the pocket where the print pauses. This way if for some reason there is a collision, it is while the tool head is going around the outside of the hardware instead of directly over it. This gives a small opportunity to stop the print hopefully before it does any damage. Thanks for the comment. Great advice for anyone else who might be designing something with similar techniques!

    Didn't find anything you liked, so you designed one that looks just like all the other ones?

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  2 месяца назад

      The ones I found used 3D printed phone holders. They tend to wear out very quickly and not something I would trust putting a phone in. I also wanted a cold shoe mount and a few 1/4-20 mounting points. None of the ones I found had all of these features, so yes I designed one myself. There are not many ways to make something like a camera rig look different. I just made my own with the features that I wanted

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  3 месяца назад

      Those are just extra mounting points for anything you would want to add (lights, microphones, etc.) 1/4-20 is the universal standard for most AV equipment

    what type of screws did you use with the jam nuts you forgot to put the link to what size the screws you used

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  4 месяца назад +1

      They are just random ones I had lying around. They are standard 1/4-20 socket head cap screws. Any length over 1/2 inch should work for the handles, however I would recommend 3/4 inch ones for the handles. I wouldn't go any longer than 1/2 inch for the camera mount. If you can't find socket head screws, then pan head or button head screws would technically work as well, but you may need to modify the diameter of the counterbores to make them fit. Here are some links to some cap head screws if you are in the US.
