    It is interesting all of the issues seem having nothing to do with the linear motors or it´s drivers. Imho Peopoly should have sold a XY gantry with drivers to replace the gantry a Voron 2.4 350, Trident 350 or/and Vcore 3.1 500 instead releasing a complete "beta" printer.
    It would have not only been cheaper, but also much more intersting for the still big group of tinkerers. You could combine you favorite bed, bed kinematic, printhead etc.
    For load cells: They have a massive temperature drift. I do not know how klipper handles it, but a few years ago I have seen a github project were a microcontroller sampled the load cell very often (about a thousend times a second) and constantly updated the middle value. The controller gave a signal on its output the moment the measured value deviated from this middle value for a certain percentage. A quite simple solution, if I remember correctly it was an ATiny chip. It´s quite good to use a seperate microcontroller for such real-time task instead using a multitasking OS. Sadly I do not find the github project at the moment. But I think the problem isn´t the loadcell itself, but the way the values delivered are interpreted.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  3 месяца назад

      Good news! They are selling the linear motor system as a standalone part. I was going to pick some up to play with until I saw the price. Maybe one day I will, but not for a while.
      The load cell is a hot mess. Mine is working "okay-ish" right now, but that can and will change at any moment. I am planning on eventually switching over to using a Beacon to replace the load cell. There are people in the Discord who have made this modification on their Magneto with great results.

    Thanks for the review. I just got mine unboxed and setup. Had a few issues, the instructions have a number of errors and I could not get it to power up. I found the 20amp circuit breaker had flipped and reset it. Next the Wifi would not work, so I hooked it up with a cable. Haven't got close to a print yet, stiil trying to get it recognized in Orca. It does look like a very promising machine. New sub, so I can follow your journey

      Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it! It definitely is an interesting machine and I have a couple of fun projects I'm getting ready to use it for very soon. I saw your video printing my PTFE riser. Hope you like it! I'm not sure if the stock PTFE tube is long enough for it, but as long as you aren't using the full 400mm you should be fine (I replaced mine immediately as the early units came with a very low quality one). How well is your extruder working? Looks like you have one of the new ones. Looks completely different from mine which is one of the very early pre-order units.

  • @chargerman426
    @chargerman426 7 месяцев назад +1

    I guess I'm lucky as I haven't had any of these issues. I do have bed mesh set to run just for the print area before it prints and I had the clicking from the extruder (Peopoly sent me a new extruder and its been great). Its been the most plug and play printer i've ever had.

    That sucks you went through all those problems. Every printer I have purchased over many years went like that. Except for the X1C. But I did wait to get the X1C until after it had been out for a year. I don't think I'd ever be an early adopter on any 3D printer again. Too annoying. I just want to print.
    Thanks for sharing your experience. Maybe in a year, the Magneto will be "worked out" enough for me to get one. I do love the idea of what they are going for.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  7 месяцев назад +1

      I normally don't like doing the whole early adopter thing, but I wanted a larger format printer, and couldn't resist the pre-order price. I feel sure within a year the Magneto X will be in a much better place. Considering Peopoly has never made an FDM printer before, the problems we have been having so far are a bit expected.
      Working on this printer has brought up old nightmares of dealing with my Tevo Tornado! Not a pleasant experience to be reliving!

      Seriously, the X1C is the only FDM printer I've had that worked perfectly out of the box, and I also waited a year after release to buy it. I'm afraid that by the time the Magneto gets the kinks ironed out, a new large format printer with tool changer will be available. Hopefully Bambu's upcoming XL printer will have linear rails and a tool changer....

    Thank you for this review. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have 7 resin printers, 3 X1Cs and a solo Mk4S. I wanted the Magneto for larger prints but I think I'll hold off until they get it better tied down. I used to have 4 Vorons but after the X1C came out - I sold them.

      It is slowly turning into a decent printer. Many people have reported having really good success converting the machine to use beacon instead of the load cell. The extruder on the other hand is still a bit of a mixed bag. Some people are getting extruders that work great, and others have one like mine which just doesn't work good at all. I know Peopoly has made a few changes to the entire tool head so it might be better now, but I don't have one of the new ones for testing yet. If you are ok with doing some tinkering, the printer does go on sale for $1599 quite often, so it might still be a viable option. I plan on making an update video eventually once I install my upgrade kit. Just haven't had time lately to mess with it

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  7 месяцев назад

      If I remember correctly, they had originally started showing it off back in August 2023. It was supposed to have been released sometime in November or early December but they quickly realized that they had a lot more work to do than they had initially thought. That's why we really didn't hear much from them after September. I think the main problem just came down to Peopoly not having the required experience in FDM to produce something as complex as the Magneto X. The overall building blocks of a good printer are there, it just needs a lot of little tweaks to get everything working as it should. Given how complex the Magneto is, I think Peopoly did an overall decent job, but they really should have done more internal testing rather than dump that job on the pre-order customers. Thanks for watching!

    It is interesting my printer arrived in May and has be very reliable and robust. In an industrial setting sending data to a cloud isn't an option. It appears the washers were not on my load cell no clicking or under extruding. The only issue I have had is not being able to get abs to stick however my enclosure just shipped so hopefully that helps that issue. If peopoly did make changes and push them out that quickly it would be impressive.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  7 месяцев назад

      Peopoly has actually been pretty good at making changes in a very quick manner. It would not surprise me if they did manage to make changes and push them out that quickly. I did not have any clicking from the extruder in the beginning. It happens over time from the vibrations causing the set screw to come loose. They may have already started adding thread lock to the set screws before your printer shipped out to you.

      @@makerscorner93 My worry is they maybe going out of business with not enough things selling and we're left with something that needs immense funding to fix and get right.
      If i knew i could calibrate it and it'd be right and just be a work horse, it makes sense and i'd try it but people over on discord are modding and "upgrading" theirs with tons of stuff and i wonder... why? Some people like that hobby yes, vorons for example but sometimes the vibe is via necessity and that's not something i'd want :s

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  2 месяца назад

      I don't think they are going out of business. I think reception to the printer was a bit soured by the lackluster performance at launch and now they are desperately trying to sell off some stock to cover costs. They have fixed quite a few things, but yes this is very much a printer for tinkering and not so much for being a rock solid steady workhorse. That being said, there aren't many options out there in this price range for this size of printer. So if you need a larger printer and don't mind a bit of tinkering, then it could be a decent option. I've had mine for 8 months now and I am getting ready to make an updated review video soon based on my experience after an extended amount of time with it.

  • @tasa4904
    @tasa4904 6 месяцев назад

    The biggest weakness of this printer is definitely the load cell. The numbers that it reads can vary a lot when it's probing. I still get decent first layers and the prints stick, but I feel like it could be more consistent instead of varying between too close and a bit farther away.
    I think the second is that it uses some specialized parts. Like the load cell. Or the cabling. If the printer goes down, you need to get the replacements shipped instead of pulling spare parts from your other printers. They ship quickly, but it still takes time. I had two things fail on my printer and it took a week each for the replacement parts to arrive.
    I find it weird how I don't need pressure advance. Every time I try that test, I don't see a difference big enough to warrant setting this value. So it's been at zero ever since I got the printer.
    You do need to pay attention to the filament that you buy. The printer advertises amazing speeds, but I've found that if you don't use filaments designed for high speed printing and you try and push the limit, the filament starts blobbing like crazy once the printer goes overdrive and then the blobs start ripping the print.
    The y-axis has some nasty vfa on my printer. I plan to use the instructions on the peopoly wiki to tune it but I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how successfully I can remove the banding. That being said, I believe that the linear motors should be capable of this since I have no vfa on the x-axis.
    Overall it's a fun printer and it's my main one right now since I have some bigger prints to make and this printer has a larger build plate than my Voron.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  3 месяца назад +1

      Sorry for the super delayed reply. I agree the biggest issue is the load cell. I plan on changing over to using a Beacon. The community has mods to mount it and I have seen some pretty good results from it.
      Most printers use specialized parts now. Shipping in my experience has been pretty fast so far, so I am not too worried if something breaks. That being said nothing has completely failed on mine. I have had a few defective parts that needed replacing, but the printer was still usable while I was waiting.
      I have noticed the printer is super picky with the type of filament you use. The only good thing for me is the filaments that have worked the best for me have been super cheap!
      VFA has been super annoying. The worst part is it isn't consistent. Sometimes it is super obvious, and other times it is non existent.
      I agree that it is a good printer most days, but it can be very hit or miss. Some days it works amazingly well, others it can't print at all. Consistency is a major issue!

I have a few modifications I would like to make to it to increase reliability, but right now I just don't have the time or money or patience to deal with it. Maybe in December when I have a few weeks off work I will take a look at fixing everything. Right now I'd rather spend what limited free time I have creating new content. That being said from what I have been hearing, the newer units being sold now have been pretty solid without all the issues the early adopter units have. I would recommend joining the discord and talk to some people who recently received their Magneto X to see how their units are running.

    I have had some first layer issues, but, I know for a fact my belt tensions are perfect.
    At present time - I am upset that I seem to be accounted as a "Beta Tester" when my unit wasn't a beta unit- but a mainstream sold unit. It's good I get similar support, replacement parts and the like - but it's horrible if you .. want to print and there is an issue, after all - spending hours disassembling and then replacing parts or reassembling screws, is timely and pretty frustrating. 6:21 "unlike other popular 3d printers out there, that basically force you to upload all your files to their cloud just to start a print"
    It's been 2 years since Bambu lab first launched in 2022. You have NEVER been forced to use the cloud to start a print.
    Sd card, lan only , even sending files over local FTP is an option.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes there are other options however SD card is a pain in the butt and means no remote starting of a print, LAN only mode as I had mentioned in the video is not as secure as most people think as Bambu Lab has been caught in the past still scrapping data from people using that option, and while FTP is an option, it is not one that many people are even aware of. I used to use FTP but found it to be slow and generally unstable. Don't get me wrong, I love my P1S but I will never blindly overlook obvious flaws just because I like a particular machine or company.

    • @AwwwSnapperz
      @AwwwSnapperz 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@makerscorner93 I have to disagree. When the printer is in LAN only mode it does NOT leak/send out data. I have run checks both at the router level as well as wireshark. You can check it yourself. Heck if you are extra paranoid you can disable net access from any modern router at the client level.
      I dont blindly believe any company or any person who hasn't shown proof of their assertions, so I ran my own tests.
      Whether you are on a Vlan, normal router or one that is completely disconnected you can run Lan only mode. I frequently do it at local trade shows with a pocket router with no net access.
      There was a ytuber saying much of the things you mention and he was incorrect but he did it on a site that knew he was nowhere near an authority on the subject. and he could not answer let alone prove anything as network traffic can be at the very least monitored even if you cant view its contents.
      Even the crew behind x1+ who had access to far more of the inner workings confirmed what I already knew. You can run the printers without Net access, it does not send out data unless the user initiates it, and you dont need the cloud for it to work.

    What complicated belt tensioning have you had to do on the Bambu? Curious, I have over 5000 hours on my x1c and have only had to tension belts once, and it was like 5 minutes to do so.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  6 месяцев назад +1

      Some people have had relatively good luck fixing the belt tension, but spend enough time in various forums and you will find that most people have a very difficult time with it. The instructions Bambu Lab provides tends to give very mixed results. My P1P is almost always printing 24/7 so I have had to do it a few times already. It really is a very hit or miss process. That being said they are very good printers that I personally recommend to most people when they ask me what to buy for their first printer

    Oh you're the one working on the cooling thing, I'm really looking forward to that because that 48v power supply fan noise.
    A solid covering of the highs and lows so far. I've been good after replacing my load cell and toolhead board, but haven't printed a lot that isn't calibration prints since that. Hoping to do a bed mesh at my normal PLA bed temp and printing some other actual things this weekend. Once I've got that baseline I'll definitely be looking at some of the .cfg updates that folks have put together. Also will see how changing probe accuracy to .025 goes.
    It really seems a bit hit or miss with the QA on units that have gone out. As you said there's been plenty of people with issues, but some folks have been having a good time with theirs. Other than the possibly self-inflicted loadcell sensor probe issue I've been okay, fingers crossed that holds.
    I have my corner screws tight until the springs weren't springy any more, I'll keep your tension tip in mind if binding issues show up as I print taller things.

      Yep I'm that guy! Haha. I am hoping to print and test my "V2" design tonight. If all goes well, I will post links to where you can download the files.
      The .cfg video will most likely be coming out next Friday. Want to make a few more tweaks to mine before recording that video.
      QA on the Magneto X has been super hit or miss. I agree there are a few lucky ones that got printers with zero problems, but the majority of us were not as lucky. Heck I'm thankful that my problems are on the easy side of things! There are some people who have had to completely disassemble their printers multiple times already!

    I got one of their machines, and have had a real hard time to establish a network hookup. I wrote to peopolly, and still after 2 months haven't gotten a response, even after a second request.
    The heaters keep shutting off, anyway, I still cannot even print out a complete little test boat successfully. This machine has lots of issues and I have tried to return it and cannot get them to reply. I like the magnetic setup for travel. It is pretty neet. But have had real issues also with the slicer... its really a half ass slicer.

      Have you tried reaching out on the discord? I know the engineers are pretty active there. Might be worth trying if you haven't already. Believe me I know first hand how stressful this printer can be, but I have to give credit where credit is due and say that I have had great support from them. At least when going through discord. I have heard from a few people who tried emailing them with zero success until they tried going through discord. This is clearly something they need to work on!

    I was worried about this. I wish they had just released the linear motors in some common sizes and let the community have their way with them. Releasing a whole printer just risks tarnishing the whole system or killing the company because of simple mistakes. I dunno maybe that wouldn't have worked but this is less than ideal.

      They were a little too ambitious considering this is there first attempt at making an FDM printer. I feel confident that they will solve most of the problems over time

    With a printer like that you should get some B-Roll to dub over. Not nearly enough sexy magnet footage in this video.

    • @makerscorner93
      @makerscorner93  7 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately not enough footage of the machine actually working yet lol. I have my machine finally in a mostly functional state now (after a long 2 months of troubleshooting) so I plan on doing a follow up video with a lot more footage of the actual machine. I mainly wanted to get some information out there since Peopoly is now selling to the general public and I wanted people to be able to make an informed decision whether or not to purchase it.

      I'm sure you saw all the "Bambu bros" jump in to defend their beloved company. Haha.. It boggles my mind how people are so willing to just blindly defend a company that doesn't care about them at all, just their money. Don't get me wrong I do like and use Bambu Lab products, but I don't trust the company at all. People need to realize you can like and respect a product, without being a drone for the company that makes it.

    • @makerscorner93

      I showed it a few times in the video however as my printer was one of the early pre-order units, there were many issues that prevented it from printing properly. Hence the lack of footage. I have had the printer for almost 9 months now and through the help of the Magneto X community and Peopoly support, my printer is working much better now (though still not without a few issues). I have a follow up review planned to go over my thoughts on the machine after having it for a longer period of time. That video will have a lot more footage of the machine.

    $2000 and it isnt a consistently functional product. 🤦 Thank goodness for testers, volunteers, and lets be honest , suckers who dedicate their time, money , energy and labor to fix a multimillion dollar companies products.
    This is one of the strengths and flaws of the 3d printer community. These financial juggernauts are offloading R&D, testing, safety, labor, liability and other costs to the users instead of shipping a fully functional product.

      Glad to be one of those "suckers" so others don't have to be! lol.. Honestly Peopoly jumped the gun on this one. They really needed more time to smooth out all the rough edges. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for them, as much as it is for us. Thanks for watching!

      Just saying, they're not a multi million dollar company. I think there's about 6 employees aside from people doing the assembly, and even then I think that's only 4ish more people. It's a small team that doesn't have a ton of profit, especially as currently they are sending out upgrade/replacement parts free to current magneto owners, which is really great of them, but they're no prusa or bambu in scale

      Didn't pay that much, but yeah definitely spent more than I should have especially considering it's now even cheaper than what I paid and comes with a free enclosure! A lot of us preorder people are not happy about that! I will say Peopoly support has been pretty great throughout this whole struggle. The new machines that are shipping now are working considerably better because of the hard work by the community of us "paying beta testers". I have some new parts coming for my machine this week that should HOPEFULLY fix the last of the issues I still have with my machine. I am planning a new review once I have my machine up to date with what the current machines are shipping with. Thanks for watching!

      Definitely "Failopoly" when I uploaded this video, but I have to give them credit where credit is due. It still has a few issues, but I can absolutely say that I am happy to have this printer now!
