George Jefferson The Jeffersons From the Jeffersons. Season 7 Episode 14 "Sorry, wrong meeting" George accidently attends a Klan recruitment meeting. Part 1
Tom wasn't afraid also let them know that he was married to a beautiful black woman, Helen!!!!! That was much more personal to talk to him because that's also his family they were talking about!!!!!!!
This is what I said. When George walks in, everyone is happy to see him except the guys at the podium. Did the extras miss their cue or did EVERYONE not know this was a KKK meeting?
@@ReflectionOfPerfectionDwayne was initially shocked to see George, but eventually was grateful to him for saving his father’s life, even if Herb wasn’t.
@THOMASINTHE1980S I agree, but go back to when George walks in. Everyone's happy to see him except the dudes at the podium. Either the extras screwed up or nobody knew it was a KKK meeting 🤣
Wow!!! I totally forgot that James Karen did this episode! I met him at a convention about ten years ago when he appeared with his cast from the cult movie Return of the Living Dead. He was a super nice and classy guy. I got to chat with him for a few minutes. He had a decent amount of movie credits over the years and I’m so glad I got to meet him before he passed. RIP James.
When push came to shove, Tom and Bentley always had George's back and Vice versa. Here you see a different side to mr. Bentley because after all the put downs from George, he always loved George and would do anything for him including stopping him from going to jail.
1:01-1:05 The look on Franklin Cover's (Tom Willis) face says it all. He realizes that not only was he suckered into coming to a KKK meeting, but he just brought his best friend/brother-in-law George, who is black, to this meeting. Compounded also by the fact that Tom is married to Helen, a black woman. This was a triple whammy for Tom. Also, let's note the fact that after seven years (at that point how long "The Jeffersons" was on), he knew George pretty well and knew that this would not end well for the bigot. 1:11 Bentley, like Tom, is also one of George's dear friends and knew how south that situation was about to go. He knew George was gonna take that bigot apart. So when George moved as fast as he did, Bentley moved faster and was on his ass, not wanting to see his friend catch a case. And George's reaction is the best. Looking at it as a man who's dealt with racism his whole life and who's lost family members to bigotrym this was too much for a man to have to deal with that in his own apartment building. He was NOT having it. I think this was around the time of the show when George stopped using racial slurs towards white people as well.
This is a pretty perfect episode. Its got high stakes but is still nearly-entirely character driven. Its the classic Jeffersons misunderstanding episode laced with serious, still relevant commentary.
His more famous line he was known for was as Engineering Cadet Peter Preston with his dying last words, " Admiral, is the word given?" From Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan.
I havent seen the full episode but when George walks in everyone in the crowd looks happy to see him except the guys at the podium. Either the extras didnt do a good job staying in character or did everyone not know this was a KKK meeting?
At that point, he'd known George for about seven years and also knew how bad his temper was. He knew that it was that bigot's ass had he not got hold of George. Bentley and Tom were real ones when it came to George
Speaking as a white person we aren’t all like this! I love every color, it doesn’t matter the skin it matters the heart! And I’ve come across the ugliest person and he was white lol unite!!! Love wins!!!!
Indeed, he does. I remember watching this episode as a kid when it was first broadcast (my Dad was with me also watching). And yes, George did note the irony. In an earlier scene, the bigot and his son are at a CPR class with George. George goes before them and does the procedure on the CPR doll. The bigot and his son leave the class. The instructor asks why, and the son acidly responds, "we're not putting our mouths on anything that's been kissed by a nigger!" That's what the kid meant by, "we left early!" Fast forward to this scene. Yes, George saved the bigot's life. Bigot wakes up and asks what happened. Son, now recognizing George as an actual human being after this, answers his father. The father then growls the immortal line..."he should have let me die!" It took my Dad explaining such evil to me, because I didn't understand it at first. Kids don't. What that bigot father meant was that now he would have to live the rest of his life knowing that a "Negro" had saved his sorry life, and he hated that even more than living. It took me some years and life experience to comprehend that death, to some people, was preferable to being saved by someone of a different color skin than your own. I've never forgotten this episode.
Hello MAGA supporters! If you are like George and think you won't be kicked out of the Republiclan party, all they want is your vote. Then there go your rights. If you don't believe me, go ask the women of Texas and Florida!
George Jefferson performed CPR and saved the anti-black racist, which was a mistake if you were to ask me. The anti-black racist that George saved asked his son who saved him and the son said George did and the anti-black racist said to his son: “You should’ve let me die.” SMH After those words, George said to Tom and Mr. Bentley: “No matter what you do you can’t change them.”
I voted for Trump in 2016 for the same reason I voted for Obama in his first Primary. He was running against the rich white woman who owns you. Why do you think Trump won running against her in states Obama won in two elections?
@@jae6220 Not sure what that means but I think its safe to say George Jefferson was certainly an inspiration to the rich Black Republican who founded Papa John's Pizza.:)

Wow that’s brilliant!!
This episode always makes me emotional. Hating sometime PURELY based on their skin color is despicable!

This show was such a powerful landmark showing the truth; the idiocy of racism from any side!!!!!!!! It still is!
So true
It was and when you get Tom roused up too!
It truly demonstrates the pointlessness of it all. Life is too short to go about hating people you don't even know.
Remember, Bentley worked at the UN, I’m sure he knew how to break up a brawl
George was about to open a can of whoop.

I wonder where that kid is now LOL. Telling people he had one line in a famous TV sitcom and the one line was a slur LOL
Ike Eisenmann did some behind-the-scenes work at Disney.
Xochi Gonzalez he was also in a episode of Tj Hooker

To hear the kid use the N word on regular TV back then is truly legendary.
This was probably a prequel to David Chappelle's black KKK

Here's a more complete clip showing the context. I was wrong about the son saying that; it was actually the father. Well, it has been 40 years.... :-)
