    About All In The Family:
One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

I was born in 79 but I still grew up with all in the family and especially the jeffersons. Archie Bunker and George Jefferson were both bigots and ogres, they were flawed characters but at the end of the day they were decent men in thier own stubborn and small minded ways. By the social moral standards of today they would be on the fringe...especially archie bunker but back in the 70s everybody had someone like that in thier family or at least knew somebody like that. No room for political correctness and all just good laughs!! Because they represented real characters so well!

Today there would be too much fear to show all of the sides of racism and many of the other issues that were discussed on Lear's shows. It would be seen as politically incorrect, but that's where many young people today are missing the education that a show like this provided. These characters aren't black and white...no pun intended. There is a lot of gray to characters like Archie and it's in his grayness that we find the true gold of a show like this. Lear's hook was making you think it was all about comedy, but it was really about the lessons learned. His insite into our shared humanity is a beautiful thing to behold!
