The moment that she realizes that she thanked her mother is so real, and heart warming. You can see the years of disappointment and resentment that she held against herself, instantly lifted and replaced with joy, happiness, and forgiveness.
I'm glad they were able to show her proof of that.

Wow. Finding out she DID thank her mother brought tears to my eyes. In the moment you really don’t remember who you’ve thanked. I understand. She’s such a blessing. Hard to believe she’s 76. Time goes by so fast ❤

@@gauravw6947 She obviously had been gaslit by her mother into thinking she didn't deserve to get that praise, which had created such negative feelings about the awards that she didn't want to ever watch it again. She had built up the idea that she deserved her mother's scorn because she didn't thank her, but the reasons were most likely psychological problems that her mother had.
Didn’t think I could love Kathy Bates more than I already have for the past 30+ years. This interview just proved me wrong. What an absolutely lovely woman inside and outside.

She speaks my grief of my own mom: "She has my life." My Mom gave up so much too. A gorgeous woman who could've had a pampered life. But she raised 10 kids solo after leaving an abusive marriage. She worked her beautiful hands to the bone and the stress eventually killed her brain. Fewer heroes have I ever seen. Every joy I've lived has been for us both. Kathy Bates speaks this devotion to a hero Mom so perfectly. ❤
Kathy Bates is a LEGEND. A GENUINE legend. It is so refreshing to see incredibly talented people that are authentically real (and didn’t drink the Hollywood Koolaid). Thank you for this interview and every role you full embodied for us all to forever enjoy.
I'm so glad she's not retiring! Her role in "About Schmidt", in the final third of the film, is one of the funniest characters I've ever seen.

You know I'm 54 yrs old. I feel so young inside. But now I feel old because I to am invisible to people. I lost my daughter to cancer in 2019 an that woke me up. And I find myself grieving the younger more beautiful me. So I've been in solitude since my baby passed. I watch my grandgirls only an take care of animals. I'm stuck. I wish I had your strength. Your one of my favorites.

how convinced she was she didn't thank her mother, she even tried convincing Ben , that's how strong the feeling was inside her. how she said smiling "I didn't thank her" showing she made peace with that, and how her face dropped when she realized she did thank her mother and was lied to all those years. that "thank you" and "what a relief" were so sincere, I feel for her. 30+ years thinking you did something wrong, living with it, and then realizing you didn't do it, I feel so happy for her relief
I would watch anything that she is in and I rarely say that about any actor. She has a God given talent and I'm so glad she is in my lifetime.
Wow! A transcendent, deeply moving moment for me, watching Kathy Bates' reaction to hearing herself thank her mother. There's at least a whole short story in those few seconds of video. She is unquestionably a GOAT.
You can see the burden of self-recrimination she carried all those years lifting from her. I'm glad she got that relief.

Oh wow! This interview was even better than I was expecting. It was just so moving when she realized she did thank her parents in her Oscar speech, and just beautiful to see how grateful she is to them for everything they did. Also, very glad that she's not planning to retire after all (although if she did, I'd wish her all the best), and that she's feeling great after being able to lose weight. Here's to the great Kathy Bates!
That moment was so incredible. What a thing to witness. Her whole life not realizing or remembering that her mom slipped in there with her dad. She couldn't believe it.

Such a joy to watch as an actress. Beyond her amazing work in Misery (she brought a complex character in the novel to life), Ms. Bates livened up Titanic, even in a small role as Molly Brown.

Wow, Miss Bates is such an incredible actress. Thank you for this interview. I never would have thought that she was 76 by watching her on the first episode of Matlock. Which is excellent, by the way, and all should watch. I was saddened when she announced her retirement from acting, but I understood, given all that is going on in Hollywood these days. She found the perfect series to continue though. And like her, I hope it continues for a very long time. Love you, Kathy!

Kathy Bates is...an innately caring, compassionate, wonderful human being, and my heart thanks her for sharing her light with the world! She is proof that the universe provides and there is a plan.
She probably thought that what her mother said to her all these years was due to her not thanking her at that moment. That was a blessing at the time to find out, but I can't help but think that when she found out she also had to begin to wonder why her mother then said that to her if not for being upset about not being mentioned. My thought is that her mother was keeping her grounded and letting her see that despite the great award she won for her work, there are real every day heroes who aren't actors or famous and issues in the world that still need attention which are more important. As an actor though being recognized with that honor is the crux of knowing they've rewarded your talents, that you're one of the best, and Karhy certainly always has been and will be. Her mom couldn't have been anything but truly proud of her....or at least I hope, because she is an amazing woman.

WOW! Absolutely in awe of this remarkable lady. She embodies the essence of "Never let anyone tell you that you've passed your prime". I haven't followed any TV shows in years but for sure I'll make an exception for this one because of her.
The new show is fantastic. Truly. The set is so intentional and the script is funny, heartwarming, heartrending, glib, honest, real....so many excellent things. The cinematography is great, too. It's just enough to help the audience see what Matty sees without hitting you over the head with it. And all of the actors are really, really good. And Bates....she is breathtaking. I find myself charmed, beguiled, bewitched...all of it. She takes me in, but then I can never feel cheated because the show works hard to show your their cards so you don't feel cheated or fooled. And her dramatic performances...the show couldn't be what it is without her. She brings the whole entire program to a completely different level, and then the rest of the cast gets to operate from that more complex place. I can't wait to tell more people about it.

This interview literally put so much joy to her. She probably goes the rest of her life w/o realizing that she thanked her mother. Perhaps that’s why she didn’t rewatch her acceptance speech after all these years - it would have been painful to watch it and being upset that she forgot to thank her mother. Now… she’ll probably be watching that speech over and over ♥️
