Kathy is one of those exceptionally talented performers, but has remained extremely humble through it all. She is somebody that hasn't gone all 'Hollywood'.
I think it was Evan Peters who said while filming AHS that it didn't look like she did anything special while filming, but then he was blown away to watch her on screen once it was completed. That she was an absolute master in her field. She's one of my all time favorite actors ❤!
Alfre Woodard said the same. She said she watches Bates in a really emotional scene once.. and the whole film crew were crying after her take. She said it was a testament to her craft.
Its refreshing. Most actors can be so shy when they talk and its just bizarre, she actually is so engaging. Another actor who shocked me by how engaging he is (similar to Kathy) is Jude Law.

G/G I wanted to like disjointed so bad. The writing was so horrible.. And it truly surprised me.
@@msthang5366 i really liked it lol
G/G I watched at least 4 episodes
Felicia Kelley yeah i watched like half an episode of disjointed lol it was not good
alayna d
Wasn’t good at all!!
Considering it was created and written by those responsible for “The Big Bang Theory”, I expected so much more.
Her role as Ms. Hannigan in Annie (1999) will forever be one of my favorites. That movie was such a great part of my childhood. ♥
Now I have to go watch that. “I’ll admit no man has bit, so how come I’m the mother of the head?” 😂
I loved how differently she played her compared to Carol Burnett.
"Finally really hit the big time."
Millennial generation here, ummm you were since Misery, Titanic, and Water Boy... everything else is icing on the cake. You're as loved by our generation as Betty White. :)
jmitterii2 yeah! I remember since I was a teenager I knew her as a renowned actress
Yesssss
Her and Betty White - leave them alone universe you've had your share.
You had me until you said waterboy. I was a teen when that one came out and I thought it was stupid. I forgot kathy was in that honestly.
Seriously, I see Kathy Bates, I click. She's a national treasure!
She’s awe inspiring!
she really reminds me of a mother figure. I really want her to be my aunt or grandma. Such a nice lady
Samee
I was thinking the same....ever since i saw delores claiborne i felt that way
For an actor to be as well-rounded in his talented as she is, her humble demeanor and unwavering gratefulness is such an amazing thing to see
This woman should be countlessly more celebrated than she already is.
I’ll watch anything she’s in. Even if it’s crap, she NEVER is.
Carissa Mcdonald 😉
You can just say The Waterboy if you'd like :)
SOOOOOO TRUE
Mango T me too. And Cate Blanchett.
I would agree with you, but she was in North playing an eskimo with a wig and fake make up.
But I like to pretend that that movie doesn't exist.
Her performance in 'Misery' is ICONIC!
Rain Heird Loved her in “Fried Green Tomatoes” too!
Misery was the best... Omg when she broke his legs... I still hear her telling the story of the diamond mines...
@@whitealliance9540 Absolutely, when she hobbled him with that sledgehammer 😬 still one of the most gruesome scenes in cinema.
Most definitely!
Kathy is one of those exceptionally talented performers, but has remained extremely humble through it all. She is somebody that hasn't gone all 'Hollywood'.
Even when she played a sadistic racist in AHS I couldn’t hate her 😂😂
Inami that is a gift of a true actor
Right 🙃
Lmao for real
Spolier Alert😂🥴
Inami exactly and I’m black 😭
I think it was Evan Peters who said while filming AHS that it didn't look like she did anything special while filming, but then he was blown away to watch her on screen once it was completed. That she was an absolute master in her field. She's one of my all time favorite actors ❤!
Catherine G, yup I’ve seen or read that interview.
Alfre Woodard said the same. She said she watches Bates in a really emotional scene once.. and the whole film crew were crying after her take. She said it was a testament to her craft.
She’s a legend and one of the greatest actresses in the entire world
@@toricooper2524 Agreed!
@@beth2398 How you doing gorgeous, I'm sorry for infringing on your nice comment and beautiful profile. do you mind friendship?
Always love her and have never been disappointed with her on screen. She has so much to be proud of.
She's so fluid and sure of herself when she speaks. It's kinda enthralling to just hear her talk.
Such confidence. Well at the end of the day she's a lez that comes to them naturally which is very admirable
@@69op2gg1005ify0m Uh no she isn't.
Its refreshing. Most actors can be so shy when they talk and its just bizarre, she actually is so engaging. Another actor who shocked me by how engaging he is (similar to Kathy) is Jude Law.
Kathy is one of those women that just looks better with age, tbh.
Exactly!
Ikr
Her skin is amazing, lucky woman.
i could play the make-up card but i don't want to ruin it. i love her and she looks really gorgeous for her age :3
She's like a fine wine and I'm here for it
Omg i just found out that kathy bates was 42 when se did MISERY!!!!!! LIKE SHE GOT HER STARDOM AT 42!!!!!! AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE IT!!!!!!!! SHE'S A FREAKING LEGENG I LOVE HER
Wow omg 😳 42???!!
Omg that’s crazy! I thought she was much much younger holy crap!
Alan Rickman didn't star on tv untill he was 42 aswell
Misery was a defining moment for her and it was followed up with Fried Green Tomatoes in 1991 which really solidified her stardom.
Wow!!! Good for her!!!
Literally one of my favorite actresses ever. Such an immaculate talent. Like, once in a lifetime range. And just a beautiful person inside and out.
I would love to see Betty White break down her career.
Annie Romero who?
Yes, but without profanity.
Denise Eggert why not tho
that will be a 2 hour video.
She would need two days 😂
She’s a legend. I hope they give her flowers while she’s still here.
Poor Kathy. I don't think she'd feel nearly as guilty, this long, about forgetting Ryan Murphy if he hadn't thrown such a hissy fit.
So glad to see other Kathy Bates lovers in these comments. She's definitely one of my favorites. Very talented, and I'm so glad to see that she seems like a genuinely kind person.
She always played roles with a lot of personnality and character. I like her play. She is way natural, authentic and straight.
I love how she explained acting as "dress play" what we used to do when we were still kids. So simple but makes sooo much sense!
She looks so chic now and these flashbacks make me realize how underrated her beauty is on top of being a down to earth person and timeless, excellent actor
“Darling, that’s all in the past. Now you will have a glass of champagne and you will begin the rest of your life.” ❤️
That's a wonderful thing to say to someone, really, in the right place and the right Time.
💙💙💙💙
Yeah such great advice. Yeah I had a great doctor like that they come around only once in a lifetime!
I feel like it would be a really, really good idea for me to buy a canvas, throw some paint on it and also write those words all over the artwork. What a fabulous doctor! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Kathy Bates is such an amazing actor, amazing woman. I’ve loved everything that she’s done that I been privileged enough to see. I hope she has many more years ahead of her! 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕
Another favorite....'Fried Green Tomatoes'.....I always remember her line in the parking lot when the girls said 'We're younger and faster'.......her response as she's running into their car 'I'm older and have better insurance.'
she seems like an incredibly genuine and great human being! So much talent
An incredible actress, and someone I have never heard a bad word about. She's had a tough time with her health over the years, so it's great to see her doing so well.
I love how so many actors have this awe towards Michael Shannon. Kathy, Leo, and Kate are all fantastic actors and for them all to be so drawn in by Michael really says something.
BrokenGod Ent. Hard to believe he’s the newlywed who screams “WRESTLEMANIA!” near the end of Groundhog Day.
I got to see him do a 45 min 2-man improv show several years ago in a small theater. At the time no one really knew who he was but the audience was mesmerized by him...
And Jamie Lee Curtis
The fact she had a crush with the operator in Misery made me laugh like crazy 🤣🤣🤣 love her and her stories
Off I go to imdb to see if I can figure out who she's talking about
Dolores Claiborne was amazing! She deserved an Oscar for that performance. One of my favorite movies 🎬
Mine too.
I love Kathy Bates. She’s the light and heart of every film in which she appears.
I'll double that. 🙌🌚
She’s great in psychological thrillers as well as in comedy, drama, whatever. She’s definitely one of the best actress in the world!!!
Also, she seems to be such a good person. So humble.
Even though the entire interview is about her career, notice that she spends almost the entire time complimenting others she works with. She has so much class.
I just watched “Misery” and it is such a good film, it’s on Netflix for those who want to watch it
Cerys Gibson Oh my god I just got into Stephen King and I checked Netflix for it and it wasn’t there. I think they removed it not too long ago since you posted this 3 months ago. Too bad I can’t watch it :(
Misery and green fried tomatoes you have to watch them
Masterpieces
It’s one of my favorites
@@dzumai its still there
I loved Misery...but she's great in anything

9:28 Titanic
12:08 Primary Colors
14:05 The Waterboy
16:00 Revolutionary Road
18:28 American Horror Story
21:456 Richard Jewell
Nothing on the film About Schmidt??
samarztk not even a nod to The Office
Nothing about Annie either
I hung on every word she said, what a great interview. She is someone to look up to without a doubt, not just in terms of mastery of her craft but shining personality and mindset.
Kathy Bates is one of those actresses that I kind of forget she’s my favorite, but she’s straight up one of my faves. She’s versatile and plays her roles so freakin well. She captivates you in the story, regardless of genre. And after watching this interview, she’s so classic, talking up other actors and actresses.
“Can I call my mother?” Best thing ever.😂💕
She's so underrated. This women is not only an amazing actress but I believe she surpasses Meryl Streep. DISCLAIMER: I love Meryl Streep. The Devil wears Prada I'm obsessed with her in that movie.
@@altar_girl A lot of actresses are much better than Streep.
Do we really have to compare them? Can’t we just enjoy both?
I've watched Misery many times and each time her performance never fails to terrify me like I'm seeing it for the first time!!! BRILLIANT actor! One of the best!
Wow, haven't seen any of the other actors featured in Vanity Fair's career break-down videos take it as seriously as Kathy did here. Thanks for not cutting down her thoughts too much.
“Darling, that’s all in the past. Now, you will have a glass of champagne, and you will begin the rest of your life.” I love that.
I love Kathy Bates-one of my buddies works on the set of American Horror Story, with costumes, and she says Kathy is great in real life, too-very cool. Would love to meet her.
Jeanette Gallagher your... she.. works... on... Thats so cool.
Jeanette Gallagher your friend has my dream job
Very cool.
Kathy Bates can do any character, at anytime. I found her when she first started working with Stephen King. Since, if she is in the movie, i watch it. She knows how to pick her roles. She is an absolute American Treasure. Luv ya Kathy!
She is just lovely. Listening to her talk was so heartwarming. What a lovely woman.
Kathy Bates has this genuine honesty I find so endearing. She’s so smart and an amazing actress I could watch in just about any movie. What’s more, she is aging beautifully and naturally with grace and dignity, something that is so much more respectable than the Hollyweirdos who OD on plastic surgery.
God she was the absolute best in Misery. That was my first ever exposure to her. What a gorgeous class act.
How can 374 people dislike this?
Well it has 77k likes which works out to 0.0048 % dislikes , I would call that a pretty good ratio .
They have mental retardation
She’s one if not my favorite actor. She’s got such range. And she’s so humble. 👏
Why did this make me cry. I love Kathy bates so much.
How you doing gorgeous, I'm sorry for infringing on your comment and beautiful profile. do you mind friendship
