Hi. It will work, but....... There are some issues, at least for me. It's heavy. When i ride in winter on crf300, I fall once every 30 minutes. And then I can just lift the bike alone most of the time in 15 seconds. Dr. big, it's big and heavy. In some positions, for example, in a dich in snow almost upside down? This might be hard if you are alone. Also, the torque and power. It's too much for snow and ice. It will lose grip a lot. Even being single sylinder, 800 is too much for winter to maintain grip on the rear wheel. I had lots of drag races on frozen lakes, and first of the line, it's always the smalest, least power bike. It is overtaken after 100m by more powerful bikes, sure. But of the line is better, simply because it doesn't have enough power to spin the wheel. It's a nice bike, but I went to 300l from 700 tenere because of that, and now I even think 125 will be even better for winter riding.
@Mcdoktor Thanks for the reply here in Ireland we don't get too severe of winters just plenty of muck and dirt on the back roads and some road salt and the good bike gets destroyed so the dr800 would probably do that job fine.i ride alone usually and there is not a lot of off roads tracks in Ireland just a very small amount. Once the big 800 would be reliable enough because the Yamaha teneres have never let me down.👍👍
Are there anyone still on these chats ,I have a dr800 dual sport but won't swing the starter motor ,what I would like to know is how to bypass the kick stand switch and bypass the decomp/interlock relay
Thanks I did bridge the black/white and green wires together but did nothing as I know the kick stand switch is faulty/open circuit, tested the clutch switch is working and neutral light is working but not sure how to test the decomp unit/interlock and there like another little black device, not sure what it is
@Mcdoktor thank you ,could you please advise on how to test it ,my problem I'm having is when I press the start button I'm not getting a signal to the solonoid, but if I bridge the top of the solonoid it swings the starter motor over but my lights come on and the neutral light works when in neutral and when I put it in gear it goes off . Is there any way to bypass the decomp unit and sensor
Please if you could give me some more information on decomp unit, what is its function, from what I can see it switches the red/white wire with yellow/black which would allow the starter motor to swing but what are the other function s of the unit ,meaning does it also Affect the decompression solonoid (timer)and if there's any other function s ,also if you could please advise if there is a different way to bypass that unit by using possibly two relays instead ,thanks your help would be greatly appreciated.
Garage goals right there! Nice!
Nice bike.
I have an xf650 Suzuki which I would like to turn into an 800 one day.
Maybe when I wear this one out 😂
I had a freewind long time ago. Awesome bike. You will have less problems with it than 800. Keep it as long as possible.
@@Mcdoktor thanks, yes I hope it will last me a long time.
I’m off for a 4 day trip into the outback next week.
I have a question, maybe you do wheel balance , because my rear wheel after tire replacement hopping kinda heavily 😅
I don't know where you heard that rumor that i do balance wheels. Its fake news.
Do you think the 800 would work as a winter hack bike and i could keep my Yamaha super tenere 1200 clean and dry over the winter.Thank you.

Hi.
The easiest thing to do is to cut and loop the cabels.

@neiletsebeth7937 decompression hendel has little sensor under.
