About Seinfeld:
Seinfeld stars Jerry Seinfeld as a stand-up comedian whose life in New York City is made even more chaotic by his quirky group of friends who join him in wrestling with life's most perplexing, yet often trivial questions. Often described as "a show about nothing," Seinfeld mines the humor in life's mundane situations like waiting in line, searching for a lost item, or the trials and tribulations of dating. Co-starring are Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Jerry's ex-girlfriend and current platonic pal, Elaine Benes; Jason Alexander as George Costanza, Jerry's neurotic hard-luck best friend; and Michael Richards as Jerry's eccentric neighbor, Kramer.

It’s funny to see George toying with the idea of doing the opposite this early on 😂
He was right all along
Georgie, Georgie, Gerogie... HOCKEY Georgie.
@@mayurryadav2222 And yet he still couldn't keep it up because, you know...he's George.
Chicken salad. On rye
He was procrastinating 😅
Jerry's appartment definitely evolved a lot since then 😂
The window is different
The bathroom got moved.
He was still a struggling comedian back then
So has Kramer!
Yeah, there's no hallway between the bathroom.
These characters didn't seem real yet. They felt like they were reciting lines they had memorized. Once the show got its rhythm, the characters came to life and felt like real-live people.
yeah i agree. couldn't really get into the show til around 93
It's kinda like that later episode a few seasons later.
Bizarro versions of them.
@@lfkk4640 it's more legit
@@MrBmick79 why ?
@@lexkanyima2195 I was 12.
I love the detail of how he didn't carry both slices of bread in the same pocket. Makes the reveal more dramatic. 😀
he was a kramer sandwich
@@roguesheep3083 were you a writer this show or something? 😂
His first appearance of him spoiling the game for jerry and asking for meat definitely set the tone for the whole series 🤣🤣🤣
This yellow stuff
at least they kept that part of the pilot to the series, but there was no Elaine yet.
But they didn´t present each other. He just moved but already knew him.
I’ll be honest, Kramer is one of the reasons I have a problem lending my things out to other people 😊
Glad I don’t have this problem.
Me too. And if they don't return my stuff, I always tell them: Next time I lend you my cat, because in a few days, it comes home by itself
@@steverogers7601 aren't you prefect
@@Thunderchild-gz4gc you and my mom think alike!
Same here
One of my favorite things about early Seinfeld is how uncomfortable George is around Kramer.
*Kessler
he’s still not sure whether or not this guy is harmless yet 😆
It took George a few seasons to adopt the "do the opposite" philosphy.
They both look so young. Kramer's hair sure changed later.
and for the better I might say.
Jerry was 34 George was 29 and Kramer was 39 at the time this episode was taped.
I love how Kramer makes the sandwich in the fridge 😂😆
I like how Kessler just walks around with bread in his pockets until he finds some meat 😂
Who’s Kessler?
@@FurEliseFlamenco Because Kramer was based upon a real person and they didn't have the name approved yet, he was called "Kessler" in this first episode. Listen closely at :31 at you can hear Jerry say "Kessler".
Now, if it were BUTTERED, that would be even more funny!
@@brundlefly262they were trying to keep Kenny Kramer out of it because they knew he would exploit them for money if they used his name which he did including later creating the Seinfeld reality tour which the website is still up. Jerry eventually convinced Larry to use Kramer's name
And he knocks on doors before he enters his neighbour’s apartment
I love how Kramer knocks on the door instead of sliding into Jerry's apartment.
Kramer would go on to do that many times
@@LiamB3262 No he doesn’t….
@@dylanhealy8126 Sliding in not knocking on the door
he was late for a cue and he slid in because he was in a hurry and the audience loved it.
actually, Kramer said he wasn't suppose to be in there that weekend because of the girl...so Kramer might've been just being cautious. That's my head canon for maintaining continuity, anyways. 🤣
The way he says " you want me to talk to her " it's perfect 😂😂😂
The newspaper on the couch... Ahhh the old days ..
You know the message you’re sending out to the world with these sweatpants? You’re telling the world. “I give up. I can’t compete in normal society.”
Normal is so boring
@SamuelBlack84 shut up sweat pants
“Well, they STUNK! That’s what happened!” 😂
Ah, the first appearance of "Kessler." Larry David was worried that his friend Kenny Kramer would get too mixed up with the show so they changed the characters name to Kessler in the early days before just going all in on "Kramer."
There's gotta be an alternate universe where the name 'Kessler' stuck.
@@JanetStarChild This is it.
I wish you would get his name right....
IT'S KRAMER...giddy up !!!
Kramer and George are my favourite characters on the show.
You got great taste
@@trafyknits Thanks
Same. To me, they’re the stars of the show.
Well they literally are the show. The show is about them.
*Quietly pulls out 2 pieces of bread* “you got any meat?”
Amazing how their chemistry developed over the seasons.
Seinfeld really feels like 3 different shows over 9 seasons, and they're all great.
Except for seasons 8 & 9. They’re pretty bad.
@@trevertravis8963 Some of the most legendary episodes are in seasons 8 and 9.
@@trevertravis8963 Not at all. Season 1,2,3: a bit rough but has a nice realistic feel and with some true bits of comedy glory (the pony remark, the chinese restaurant). season 4,5,6,7: the best a sitcom has ever been or will ever be. Season 8,9: a bit cartoony but still gold.
Seeing how Kramer started off like this and when you progress later in the series. It's quite a change he goes through with his ideals. I will have to start watching the show again. I've missed it.
Behavior-wise, it was only a slight change. Instead of knocking, and asking for meat, later he would just walk in and go right to the fridge. But just blurting out "BOY THE METS BLEW IT TONIGHT!!" was perfect. Michael didn't quite figure out his hair and wardrobe until 5 or 6 episodes in.
@@bossfan49 you could argue they became better friends/neighbors
@@thetechlibrarian absolutely
Kramer, Elaine's hair, Jerry's dates, George all around.....all got better
I really like the way everything looks in these scenes. The apartment looks less like a studio set and more like a cozy home that a bachelor actually lives in; and the clothes are way more casual and comfy.
The only thing that breaks the illusion of realism is that they're wearing shoes.
Plenty of "people" wear shoes in doors
@@mikeyreza
Maybe if they're wearing 'indoor shoes'; like how Fred Rogers (Mister Rogers Neighborhood) takes off his _outdoor_ shoes and puts on his _indoor_ shoes; that I'll buy.
@@JanetStarChild Mr Rogers was an honorable man from 60 years ago. People nowadays have no honor and will just let all their gunk get all over the place. They don't care anymore. We are no longer living in a society. We're beasts

You got that right, considering the fact that people these days use their stupid little pocket computers (i.e. "smartphones") while on the can, and seem almost proud about it.

They certainly improved the pacing of the show after the pilot. Compared to what it became, the gaps between lines/bits in this clip are almost painful to watch. I am SO glad the network didn't give up on the show and let it fully develop. One of my favorite shows ever. Great writing. Perfect casting. Brilliant acting. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
Improving ?
@@lexkanyima2195 definitely noticeable to me too.
@@FredPlanatia it was a test pilot
It improved when they brought in the veteran television director Tom Cherones who tightened up the pacing and made the show move at a more brisk pace.
Good ole Kosmo Kramer causing havoc from the get-go, just like in real life, unpredictable. He really poured his heart and soul into this character.
technically "kessler"
George's, "Well, that's flattering," to the dog liking him is totally me. 😆
Kramer's hair slowly levitated over the years like that guy from Ancient Aliens
Season one feels like the entirety of it is a pilot. A lot of concepts and characters were undeveloped. Season two is the real start of the series.
Did anyone else notice George foreshadowing doing the opposite of whatever his instincts tell him, telling Jerry he wishes that’s how he could operate, it almost makes me wonder if going against his instinct WAS an instinct 😂 and maybe george just imagined it was all working out much better that way
This is the only time i ever heard Kramer knocking before sliding into the apartment.
All three of them sure developed over the course of the show. Faster, more clever comedy.
But no Elaine
@@lexkanyima2195 which makes it even better

This is quintessential Kramer...always blurting things out.
yeah, that was my first thought "That's Kramer alright". Rummaging in the fridge and yelling about the Met's game. Only thing missing was a good back scratch.
You just need a nose job
he had that headshake down right from day 1.
Honestly the best intro they could have given this guy lol
Kramer smiling with food in his mouth 😂 he has a talent
It’s great to see the characters are like rough drafts of their future selves.
You can you not love Kessler?
Good ol Kessler.
He was still Stanley Spadowski here.
from the beginning he was quite a character, fascinating, intriguing
Who wears sneakers when relaxing at home?
I never caught Jerry calling Kramer “Kessler” before! Now the very end of ‘The Betrayal’ makes sense!
The ending of “The Betrayal” was such a clever way to explain the name change, and they added that little nugget in such a great episode too.
REPARATION!
His name was legit Kessler when they filmed this pilot. That was just an Easter egg at the end of The Betrayal
They wanted to avoid calling him "Kramer" because that was the actual name the character he was based on (an old neighbor of Larry David), because they knew it was going to be for trouble, so they changed it...only to realice "Kessler" didnt have the same impact, so his name HAD to be "Kramer"...which was trouble, because then real life Kramer started saying he was "the real Kramer", and he started doing a bus tour...if this sounds familiar is because after this happened, in one of the latter seasons they made fun of this guy by having Kramer doing a bus tour claiming he was "the real Peterman"...
The running gag about kramer is that the other main characters still considered him a friend even though he was the cause of nearly all their troubles.
Kesler 😂
Wow. Really quite a difference in this early episode. George's wariness of Kramer, that ridiculous outfit Seinfeld's got on, Kramer knocking before coming in ?!
0:26 0:28 Funny when Jerry gets upset when Kramer mentions about the mets losing. 😄😄😄 I don't know why it just made me laugh when I first saw it.
The early episodes play like the "Jerry" pilot.
He knocked on the door 😱
Kessler knocks. Kramer barges in.
Uhhh, creepy
@@steverogers7601 Easy fix. Lock the door!
@@ab-bc2gr and the fridge.

Kramer- boy the Mets blew it tonight
Announcing the results of the game would've put a strain on any friendship with Kramer.
This clip is reminder to me that I’m a 21st century Jerry Seinfeld. Instead of recording a baseball game on a VHS 📼 tape I DVR it and I have it go to two extra hours in case it goes into extra innings. Also I avoid all human contact with everyone including my best friend and my girlfriend who knows better. Also whenever I watch a baseball game by myself I usually eat a fried Bologna sandwich 🥪 with mustard on it
The Mets really blew it this season
ouch. too soon.
They were over playing a little, they eventually got it worked out, what a show.
You better believe it 😉
Kessler's first and final appearance
U guys are tripping. This was the most real it can get. Once Hollywood and literal teams of writers became involved it was less real-life conversation and situation and more focused on a punchline. Not a bad thing obviously. But these are great.
You can tell that Michael Richards was channeling Christopher Lloyd's Reverend Jim character from "Taxi" during the initial run of "Seinfeld."
Go hunt! Lol
Classic
Notice he doesn't call him "Kramer" in his first appearance? At the 30 sec mark, Jerry says, "Ah, Kessler (or Kester) it's a tape." He absolutely does NOT say, "Ah, Kramer, it's a tape."
The moment Kramer held out the pieces of bread asking "You got any meat?"
That's when knew that Kramer is the best sitcom character.
Best Of Kramer
GOLD
in the episode that runs backwards, at the very end, you see the day jerry’s moving into the building and the moment they meet.
you got any meat?
MEAT ?! I don't know.....go, hunt
The one time that Kramer knocked on the door and didn’t walk in and slide into the apartment
0:49 Jerry looks directly into the camera... It's a good thing he was a great writer and that the other actors were excellent.
Yip..good catch
Another acting student that will never make it LOL. Doing comedy is the toughest acting which is why most actors can't do it. Notice the best comedy movies are done by seasoned comics. Just watch the movie Punchline and you will see what I mean. Jack Nicolson could pull off comedy but it is rare for top actors to do it.
Wow holy nitpicking
That window
I hate to tell you Jerry, the Mets got eliminated.
Kramer is spot on about giving the option...
Kessler 😂
Kramer seemed more of a Jim Ignatowski than the character that soon developed.
..."What the yellow light mean...?"
Michael Richards early version of Kramer seemed a bit like Christopher Lloyd's Jim from Taxi
Kessler lol.
You got any meat? 😂
0:26 - STILL STILL I LIKE TO GO IN FRESH!!!!
Woah, Jerry’s window is wacky ha
His hair hadn't grown tall 🌳 in this first appearance.
His non-slide entrances were so normal, I miss the new Kramer.
This episode the first episode of seinfeld was first broadcast on wednesday july 5th 1989. 34 years ago.
Good dog
Kessler. Lol
Early Kramer reminds me of Stanley Spedowski on the movie UHF.
Isn't that the character Micheal Richards plays in UHF?
@@tims.2717 It is. one of his first movie roles
Kessler is hilarious
Kramer knocks on door and asks for food. Of course he stopped doing it in later episodes
The knocking and asking stopped, but eating Jerry's food didnt! 😅😂🤣
ok thanks
The funny part is Jerry always had food but I don't recall him ever eating anything from his kitchen except cereal, drinks, and maybe fruit.
They address that later on in the series when, in a flashback, Jerry mistakenly tells Kramer he can stop by his apartment anytime. Kramer, of course, takes the invite quite literally.
Wait a minute. I thought Kramer didn't eat deli style sammiches without Dijon mustard... and not that plain 'ol yellow mustard.
I got a big appetite Jerry
Cause this is Kessler
He also took baths instead of showers, until later when he started prepping food in the shower and insisted on the high pressure nozzle they use for circus elephants! Lots of inconsistencies over the course of the series.
He, and Make-Up, 'matured into the part' thank heavens.
The characters are so low energy compared to later seasons, but the humor is on point.
George is way leaner
Kessler !!
What year was this? Those Nike's!❤
History was made that episode!
Whew! This show was off to a rocky start.
Reminds me of late 1980's
This was before Kramer's "fright wig" look!
You can certainly see why it fly at first.
"you haven't been out of the building in 10 years"
"yeah..."
wow.. Kramer's delivery there almost sounded a bit sad, I wonder if this was a bad time in his life early on in the show.
😂
😅
Jerry in red and blue like superman
The man is so broke, his first appearance was literally in a robe
He really changed during the series
Why should he wear clothes? He hasn't left the building for 10 years! 😂
