Something I love about CGB is that he’s clearly trying to learn the game. LSV has good card analysis because he’s been a top player forever, but he’s still basically shooting from the hip all the time. Rarran, somehow having actually played YGO seems to instantly forget everything between videos. On the other hand, CGB is taking notes, asking pertinent questions about what sorts of things are good or bad in the game, and brings up lessons from previous videos. The end goal imo isn’t to laugh at a newbie for not knowing cards, but to see someone’s understanding of the game grow, and CGB feels like the only one to take the assignment seriously. Please keep having him on!
I'm so glad you said that and took the time to write it out. I felt that way completely watching the last Rarran video. I literally said to myself "It's like he's not even trying how to picture how the card can be played".

There are enough powerful costs that it can do some damage, and it generally leaves a huge design hole for any design involving reptiles, level 1's, waters, etc.

I played during the format and continued playing up until 2016-2018ish? We never got rid of it, we only adapted. DAD did not end me. It was Master Rule 4 that killed me.

As a yugioh boomer, i remember doing a big trade for this for lightsworn cards like judgment dragon and some others, I figured it would be banned and lightsworn would take over, i guessed correctly. Offloaded it before its value tanked. It was probably the biggest trade i ever took part in, and they guy went back and fourth for like 20 minutes before agreeing.
He's got it spot on. If you don't get to play, I didn't beat you. And that's the goal here. Anybody can win a game of solitaire. I'm out here to win a game against you.
CGB's love for control cards is always so funny. He always looks at these absolutely nutso flood gates like it's his favorite card. If man ever downloads master duel he's going to be another labyrinth player on ladder lol
Yea CGB is absolutely right on the Crush Card Virus. That has to be a top contender for the worst thing a card game designer has ever done to their community. It is so abhorrently toxic, you can destroy your whole game and company with stuff like this.
I mean, konami still does this. They dont make them prize cards but they spike rarities immensely on very meta relevant card when coming to the TCG so theyre market valued at 50-100 usd minimum, and then reprint it right before it gets banned.
How to make Sixth Sense balanced if reprinted. Declare 2 numbers between 1 and 6. Roll a dice. If you called them right, draw 2 cards. if you called them wrong, banish 6 cards from the top of your deck face down.
That sounds very unplayable and also completely different to the point of the card in the first place. The real way to do it is to add the runick drawback of skipping your next battle phase for activating the card alongside something about not being able to activate cards or effects with the same original name as the ones milled or drawn by the effect of sixth sense until the end of _your_ next turn after activation (cards drawn by this effect must be revealed). At this point, even a pontential (but unlikely) draw 5 is being restricted strongly enough to make it considerably stunted or balanced.
That looks better as another Pot card, and we just so happen to be missing a combo Pot card in the line up! I think it'd be better to make it banish 2 cards face up, to make it a bit better, since you are fighting uphill due to the dice roll, calling only 2 out of 6 numbers. Straight up banishing face-down might be a bit too punishing, but at the same time, banishing 6 cards alone could also be used to your advantage in some decks like Gren Maju. Banishing 2 cards, face-up (so still in play) seems like a decent balance.
Wait Sinister serpent effect is changed to this: "During your Standby Phase, if this card is in your GY: You can return it to your hand, also banish 1 "Sinister Serpent" from your GY during your opponent's next End Phase. You can only use this effect of "Sinister Serpent" once per turn."
Yup, pretty much meaning that multiple serpents are worthless, and that if you immediately send it back to its doom, it stays dead Give your serpents time to heal folks!
You should try to make some of these magic players try a few draft matches through these earlier eras of yu-gi-oh youre introducing them to, could be really fun seeing them put what they learned to the test!
MTG has Squee Goblin Nabob and the Immortal. The fisrt return to your hand during the Upkeep if its in your GY and the second you can alway play from the GY or Exile. I think that is very close to Sinister serpent, specially Goblin Nabob
can it happen indefinite amount of times, 1 of the things that wasnt mentioned unless I didnt catch it is that sinister serpent can return an unlimited amount of times even within the same standby phase if it somehow finds itself there again no matter how many times it returned to the hand, this effectively gave it infinite loop potential if any players managed to find any sort of combo or synergy that can take advantage of this aspect so konami just nuked this potential in the bud on errata
I know mistakes happen but both IO and DAD had inaccuracies. IO stayed legal for a long time post errata, and DAD was never banned. If you have someone who can proofread and fact check for this series I think it would help a lot without increasing your already large workload
Graceful was banned for the first 2 banned lists, came back during goat format, and then was banned along with pot of greed- for the first time - after goat
It was also legal along with confiscation without pot of greed for atleast one banlist. I remember that since that was how it was when i started playing yu-gi-oh.
Soul Charge is also probably one of the best topdecks you can hope to have. It's completely crushing when you play against someone, you trade all your ressources for theirs, simplified gamestate, and they just find a way to topdeck soul charge.
Big fan of your videos with cgb and rarran. You 3 are great ambassadors for your games and as someone who plays/played all 3 games,I love your perspectives and your train of thoughts when analyzing the cards 😊 And the banter just keeps on getting better 😂
That's a great idea for the next part of this series. Give them broken, pre-determined, iconic decks and have thrm duel against your underpowered, janky deck to see if they could put together a win and possibly even figure out the primary win condition and common combos.
That's not much of a series. Or a game. I don't understand why Yugioh players love pretending that their game is super complex or that their decks are difficult to understand. Especially when you're talking about people who are already good at highly complex card games in their own right.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 if it was rogue vs meta and blind going into the deck, it could work. but if you read the cards you pretty much can play fine. as a ygo player i think i would absolutely suck at magic, but i dont think a magic player would suck at ygo given they understand like the basic rules or are playing in a simulator.
@@uuh4yj43 The gap between a rogue deck and a meta deck is small enough that the experience gap with the game will matter. But that experience gap will not be large enough to swing the outcomes outside of incredibly lame and unsatisfying scenarios. Losing to stupid judge rulings from 15 years ago that should've been overturned just isn't fun. Nor are the "gotcha" mechanics that are you have no way of knowing even exist until they already cost you the entire match. I play both Yugioh and MtG. They do test different skillsets, though the overlaps does lead to Yugioh being easy for an MtG player to grasp, while the Yugioh player will struggle with land math and the exponentially more complex boardstates that MtG puts out. Resource management is another thing Yugioh doesn't prepare its players for that will absolutely cost you games of MtG. Doing nothing is almost never the best play in Yugioh, but sometimes it is for MtG.
Crush Card was broken in 2008, I played a lot in that format, remember like it was yesterday. it was limited to 1, and pros tributed sangan, or apprentice magician, or its target: old vindictive, and CCV meant u lost the game pretty much... treeborn monarch was the meta at the time, but everybody ran it, even burn decks, tributing stealth bird. - I am inspired by the OG effect of CCV from this video, might build my next, 129th deck about it soon! There are enough powerful costs that it can do some damage, and it generally leaves a huge design hole for any design involving reptiles, level 1's, waters, etc.
Eh. There's enough things in standby phase that I think it could get nutty in the right deck. It wouldn't be nearly as splashable
probably true, like ok its a +3 in hand the next standy phase if used with Snake Rain but I really dont see how that could be useful
That speaks less to the card being balanced and more to the game being broken.
Eh, +3 isn't really worth much if it's bad cards. Like spellbook of judgement can draw you 7 cards and it's not played since you need to play a bad deck. Ojamas also can get you a lot of cards and no one plays it
IO was legal from 2017 to like 2021/22. That shit hasn't been legal with errata for just one format, it's been legal for 4-5 years!
Yeah :( I really like this video format but the whiffs on the history make it harder to watch. Proofreading/fact checking would do wonders
I've not even played that much yugioh, just dabbled in it when I was a kid, and I can't stop watching these videos, it's just so entertaining. You two are a great combo together
How often have we heard him say 'They errata'd it and it's completely unplayable now' in these videos? 😂
I think that's just one of their ways of keeping a card "technically still around"
That fucking visceral reaction to Crush Card Virus is entirely justified.
I love the fact that CGB immediately got the fact that Sixth Sense ACTUALLY reads, "Pick two numbers between 5 and 6..."
Also DAD wasn't banned. I played during the format and continued playing up until 2016-2018ish? We never got rid of it, we only adapted. DAD did not end me. It was Master Rule 4 that killed me.
Tbf a lot of people called 3-4 or 2-3
Haven’t played yu gi oh since 2007 and these videos are always a blast. Thank you Cimo and CGB!
This series is my favourite keep going also shout out to CGB been keeping with the best one for years
48:56 I played in this format in a local hobby store and someone had a full DAD Crush card Deck, They used it against my not very good deck. I was like, I read the card, and it basically said you lose. They also acted like a jerk and bragged that they won with it as well.
That was the only thing that guy had to be proud of that week
@@KingOfDarknessAndEvil That and the other cheese wins he got that week lol
@@KingOfDarknessAndEvil It's actually kinda worse if you think of the time period. The time being 2009, to get a net deck list, then purchase the cards, not everyone had access to online shopping, I remember I had to get some older college friends to buy me cards off e-bay....
Love this duo so much i went over to CGB channel and began the Magic learning along with Cimo and others
Cgb is one hell of an evil mind, damn 😂
Edit: But he's indeed no monster, that crush card take saved him 😂
Mesa falcon guy delivered one of the greatest rants I ever heard in this one
cmon cimo you gotta know that DAD was never actually banned
But DAD was limited to 0 for a long time of my life😢
@@mrmittenns5728 Lmfao
It kinda annoys me that he doesn’t do any research before these videos. It’s so easy to look up if they were banned before he picks the cards for these videos
I LOVE this series and CGB is the perfect guest for this, but I think Cimo needs to take notes too on the prep to make sure those innacuracies don't happen.
And I don't even blame him too much for DAD, I could swear it had been banned too at some point.
"Imperial Order errata came back for one format and then they banned it immediately the next format."
What is Cimo talking about? The Imperial Order errata was legal for years lol
Just got to this part of the video and was like ??????????? What is he talking about
How did he just forget years of torment?
@@MegaMetal96 People actually didn't complain that much about it for a while. It was unbanned in 2017 but most people were okay with it existing until around 2021 I guess. That's when the massive uproar really started and then they banned it in 2022.
@@sast5454 only because mystic mine was legal at the time
He's confusing it with Snatch Steal I think
CGB's revilement of crush card was the highlight of my week lol
CGB and Rarran really should just do a progression series with Cimo as the judge... itd be hilarious. No Banlist or maybe they ban a card or two every three games
One of the best episodes of this in recent times lol. CGBs reactions and especially CCV is hilarious
You just dropped it after I marathoned his previous appearances. Man is great.
I like the idea that Cimo had the spirit of MARKETING take over his body and spit out the entire ELESTRALS sponsorship while CGB just had to sit there in call
As a yugioh boomer, i remember doing a big trade for this for lightsworn cards like judgment dragon and some others, I figured it would be banned and lightsworn would take over, i guessed correctly. Offloaded it before its value tanked. It was probably the biggest trade i ever took part in, and they guy went back and fourth for like 20 minutes before agreeing.
cgb is such a spirit animal... the control mage giggle at IO but crush card is "evil". loves to be annoying but still a man of principle
He's got it spot on. If you don't get to play, I didn't beat you. And that's the goal here. Anybody can win a game of solitaire. I'm out here to win a game against you.
YESS!!! CGB is back!
I'm pausing everything else now for this! 🤩
CGB's love for control cards is always so funny. He always looks at these absolutely nutso flood gates like it's his favorite card. If man ever downloads master duel he's going to be another labyrinth player on ladder lol
Nah. He will definitely be a stun player. Lab ain't stun so wouldn't satisfy this fiend lmao
@@sammydray5919 not stun, countdown, stun is too interactive.
And it is FREE?? 😅🤭
I love this guy...
nah he has the mind of a runick-stun player.
Would CGB play COUNTER fairies? 😅
My favorite duo returning!!! Also that part where CGB threw notebook is fucking hilarious
CGB is probably my favorite guest in these quiz series. It’s just so fun to see him react and learn and actually fully understand what’s going on
How to make Sixth Sense balanced if reprinted.
Declare 2 numbers between 1 and 6. Roll a dice. If you called them right, draw 2 cards. if you called them wrong, banish 6 cards from the top of your deck face down.
It could just come back in its current state, trap cards are that bad.
@@luminous3558 Nah completely impossible knowing rollback mill is a thing lol
@@ibra8096Shouldn't you declare 2 numbers at the activation time?
That looks better as another Pot card, and we just so happen to be missing a combo Pot card in the line up!
I think it'd be better to make it banish 2 cards face up, to make it a bit better, since you are fighting uphill due to the dice roll, calling only 2 out of 6 numbers. Straight up banishing face-down might be a bit too punishing, but at the same time, banishing 6 cards alone could also be used to your advantage in some decks like Gren Maju. Banishing 2 cards, face-up (so still in play) seems like a decent balance.
Wait Sinister serpent effect is changed to this:
"During your Standby Phase, if this card is in your GY: You can return it to your hand, also banish 1 "Sinister Serpent" from your GY during your opponent's next End Phase. You can only use this effect of "Sinister Serpent" once per turn."
Yup, pretty much meaning that multiple serpents are worthless, and that if you immediately send it back to its doom, it stays dead
Give your serpents time to heal folks!
@@syrelian Isin't there is a card that prevent card to banish from the grave?
Oh Hey, it’s the Mesa Falcon Guy
That's twice you've got this card wrong Cimo. DAD was never banned..just Limited for a VERY long time.
We need this guy here more often please
I know mistakes happen but both IO and DAD had inaccuracies. IO stayed legal for a long time post errata, and DAD was never banned. If you have someone who can proofread and fact check for this series I think it would help a lot without increasing your already large workload
Don’t know why CGB is afraid of crush card, it looses to Jinzo
Yea the Jinzo that you can't even draw and keep because he's dead right away alongside 3+ cards in your hand back then lol
Love so much the way you explain the cards man 😂 great video!
Graceful was banned for the first 2 banned lists, came back during goat format, and then was banned along with pot of greed- for the first time - after goat
It was also legal along with confiscation without pot of greed for atleast one banlist. I remember that since that was how it was when i started playing yu-gi-oh.
"Short period of time" Sinister Serpent was around for a long time before people looked at it
Based on reactions to Imperial Order and Jinzo, this is video two of requesting Naturia Bamboo Shoot be shown.
You're a great host cimo. Love how you thoughtfully guide your guests. ❤
Soul Charge is also probably one of the best topdecks you can hope to have. It's completely crushing when you play against someone, you trade all your ressources for theirs, simplified gamestate, and they just find a way to topdeck soul charge.
Opponent flips table and walks out, that should be the ultimate errata for IO.
43:22 "im a villain not a monster"
"How lucky. I hate this game" is the single best way to describe any competitive card game ever.
Big fan of your videos with cgb and rarran. You 3 are great ambassadors for your games and as someone who plays/played all 3 games,I love your perspectives and your train of thoughts when analyzing the cards 😊
And the banter just keeps on getting better 😂
CGB’s reaction to crush card reminds me of how I felt when I used to get cooked by brilliant fusion when it was at 3
This was a great episode. LOVED CBG's reactions to these cards! YuGiOh is quite a game haha.
(Doom Virus Dragon) In my 2016 casual format it still would be powerful! :) Great video btw!
Man the soul charge banter was hillarious because thats EXACTLY how it went😂😂😂
@0:09 cgb sums up my problem with current Yu-Gi-Oh
7:00-7:18 Yata-lock ptsd intensifies
"And it got out of hand very quickly."
Cimo making a discard serpent pun and just letting it slide 15:02
As a kid I never understood he point of Sinister Serpent. Thinking now I was dumb for not realizing that thing was infinite discard fodder for all kinds of other cards.
As a kid, I thought Upstart Goblin was the worst card ever. We would even sneak it into each other's decks as a joke. 😂
I really kind of want to see him react to fiber jar now
To be honest, a video just showing all the various pot and jar cards sounds fun
This series has been my introduction to both of you guys and I'm having a ton of fun getting these Yugi history lessons and listening to you two go back and forth about just how unhinged this beautifully insane game is. Thank you for the entertainment!
PLEASE do a progression series with CGB! it would be so cool to watch him figure out all the broken meta stuff in order of release
I remember an early format where we could play 1 Pot of Greed and 2 Graceful Charity. It was... Glorious.
"I'm holding my notebook." Throws at the wall
"I threw it at the wall!"
Haha! Dude you gave me one of the best laughs I have had in quite some time! Thank you! Your response was perfect!
Cimoooooooo has anyone ever told you that you have an amazing infectious laugh? Infectious in a good way. I love your laugh!
I can't believe CGB narrated a History of the OCG game during the Graceful Charity segment
I honestly can't wait till you start showing the others apart from LSV the other summoning mechanics apart from Fusion summoning. Lol, that'll get him to start paying attention to levels again.
50:56 Oh wow, Cimo actually broke his own "Monster, Spell, Trap" pattern! Keeping us all guessing, lol
Once again Graceful Charity makes it into a video with no mention of Faithless Looting.
i really must say, 10/10 card choices for this series imo
47:03 the Shock and Disgust on this mans face when he learned about the History of the Crush Card Virus.
29:36 cimooo this the second time man. Dad was never banned only ever limited.
We really needa give cgb a chance to experience lockdown decks first hand.
Control decks are one thing. Setting 5 and passing with legal floodgates is entirely another thing.
