  • 1963 Chevy Bel Air Junkyard Find. I can't believe I walked past this old Chevy 4 door sedan. I didn't notice it until i was on my way back out the yard. Looks like someone was using it for yard art and finally decided to send it to the wrecking yard for a few bucks in scrap. Well this one still had some parts on her worth a little bread like the complete factory air conditioning system and power steering among other things. I really enjoy finding these early 60s chevys as I have a 62 impala, myself.

I’ve had two of these four doors, one brown and white and one m no blue and white, six bangers with three on the tree. They were comfortable, also both mine had both outside mirrors.

I've always liked these, but it wasn't until that Ford vs Ferrari movie where I saw how the short overhang in front vs long overhang in back really made it stand out.

Nope not junk. If you were showing a 2006 Pontiac G6 I'd agree, but this is why watching these video are so great. When you were first trying to navigate the right side of the car where the mini swamp was located. The first thing I noticed was the center vent on the dash. That can only mean one thing. Factory A/C. Makes it even more interesting. I learned something new as well. I didn't realize there was a knob that you had to pull to engage the A/C. Super cool stuff. The other interesting bit was factory A/C on a 4 door sedan. A/C was quite a bit more common on a 4 door hardtop Impala. I once found a 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne 2 door post sedan at a Pick a Part that was factory equipped with A/C and I believe a 235 CI 6 cylinder engine. Don't remember if it was a power glide or a 3 speed transmission, but super cool none the less..

Actually G6s are interesting---I have a G6 convertible. One of 1,135 made in White Diamond Tricoat. Gets a lot of looks and is a sharp looking and great riding car.

@@googleusergp You got me on that one. It is a rare and interesting car. Unfortunately most newer cars all come fairly well equipped and similarly styled. So spying that rare old car with a tilt wheel or AM/FM radio is not as common. That is the stuff I find fascinating. Walking up to a 1957 Dodge Coronet and seeing the AirTemp sticker on the back window indicating that this car was equipped with factory A/C, or the full sized 1961 Chrysler Windsor 4 door with a factory 3 speed manual transmission. This is what I find interesting finds that made going to wrecking yards more fun in the 70's and 80's.

Wow, definitely one of those "Don't judge a book by its cover" junkyard finds. If you do take parts Benny, don't forget the air vents as I remember you broke the plastics ones on another car lol
Gotta admit, the patina is pretty unique, she looks like a cheetah!

Seems like you could make a pretty good side business of just going through these yards and stripping the meat off the bones that still exists. For example on this one take all the A/C related stuff, clean it up and sell it.

Make that a 64 ragtop with a 327 and a power glide and that's the first car I restored. Got $32000 for her.
For those who don't know cars rarely made it to 100,000 miles back then. You could get a badge for the grill if it did.

The cheapest part of rebuilding this car would be buying this skeleton - the other side of the coin is you could definitely put your style into it. Just for an idea, I'd go w/buckets up front.

An associate of mine has one here in Philly for sale, it's blue, non AC car though. It has a newer crate 350 with a mild cam, headers, Holley 4 barrel and a powerglide. It was a frame on restoration. The only thing it needs is some suspension work I believe. That passenger side mirror on the one in this video is incorrect.

Yikes, the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" has run out of style....off the road for years hooptie....here we go:
Trim tag is 04A is the first week of April 1963 production, 63 for 1963 model year, 1669 for four door V8 Bel Air, BT is for Arlington, TX assembly. Trim of 863 was Fawn (probably like a light tan, based on the door panel that survived), 938 (thanks for cleaning it..) is Adobe Beige exterior paint, CC might be padded dash, C60 is for air conditioning.
VIN is 3 for 1963, 16 for Bel Air V8, 69 for four door, R for Arlington, TX assembly and the rest is the production sequence. I knew you were going say, "Man, I'm going bust my ass on this crap!!!"
Yes, I agree, there's plenty of good things still left on this car.

I see some $$$ there. AC, alternator, bumper, dash stuff. Trim around the taillights. Little bits that are tough to come by when you don't have them.
Even stuff that's reproduced I've had some luck selling originals. I just price it lower.
