Interesting note, this scene wasn't really a failure, they allude to him making some important contacts at the end of this scene in the form of people handing him business cards. The CEO didn't give him his retirement portfolio, but he certainly gave him intimate access to other executives.
@@broadstreet21 Precisely, it's a teachable moment for the audience about it being more important to maintain a healthy professional circle than to just aim for the bullseye.
I remember feeling this way in business school a time or two. I was 24 and broke but I had chances to speak to people who had the potential to change my reality, change my world, open doors for me, if I could say the right words in the right moment in the right way. It was kind of surreal.
hey, It happened to me too one time, doing my undergrad rn, may I ask how could one do that though.. I mean how can I say the right words in the right moment in the right way.
I felt that way during business school, but then when I started to actually work as part of an Equities and Derivatives sales team I actually felt like every single person I talked to could open doors I could've never imagined were there to begin with. I'm not from the USA, I'm from Brazil, and ever since I was a kid i loved this movie and the way he just strives for better no matter what. Being black in the stock market is a different challenge, having to prove your worth everyday, while the reward may not always be the same. I swear this movie talks to me in so many ways, it kinda makes me reminisce for something that I'm still going through.
I love this movie, and what cracks me up about this scene is that it's suppose to be shot in the 80's, but all the 49er branding and logos are from the present day. Just noticed that.
I think this is literally the only movie where even jokes become serious sobering moments. Christopher says 'we don't have a car' in such a hilarious moment, in front of a CEO, and that would normally be an extraordinarily funny scene. However, we don't do much more than smile because we know that Chris is literally BROKE right now, and we feel really sorry for him and afraid of his situation. Brilliant film-making, honestly.
rejection is such a hard thing to take. i remember working on commissionn.. being rejected is a normal thing. but every once in a while you really have to work up a courage to ask. and driving your energy up, only to be shot down sucks hard. especially when the person is just not having it that day. most of the day i felt like i was crushed. hopeless. this scene hits hard for me.

It was the other way around, but they kept the Morgan Stanley name because of its cachet and a key reason behind the acquisition.
