this case is eerily similar to Todd Winkler case who stabs his wife thought she was dead then but sees her moving about the house to check on her children and that prompts him to return to finish her and has the balls to claim SELF DEFENSE AND INSANITY

My sister in law has been choked by her husband and she dismissed it as “he only choked me”. Hard to explain, but basically if he gets convicted of murder, then he will most likely get a life sentence. But there is two types of life sentences in switzerland. 1. "Prison sentence" wich is a max. 20 years. After 10 years and/or 15 years of "Prison" the state will check if the person in "Prison" is eligible for parole. 2. "Indefinite custody (mild)" This means the person will stay in prison his entire life, but the state will occasionally check if the person is not a danger to society anymore, and only then will he be eligible for parole. "Indefinite custody (severe)" The person is in prison for life period. Im no expert fyi, but hope it helps

I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this happens with a "normal" murder in Switzerland -- does someone disappear and just no one ever speaks of them again? Has no one known she was murdered/gone all these months? Obviously her family would know, but they cannot speak about it? Can neighbors know that the man they've lived near is a murderer? Are they protecting the perp over the public?

Wow…my daughter is active Air Force, USA and her and her German fiancé have been there many times. They seem to think crimes rarely occur around there as well as where they live

I have wondered why no international crime coverage! They sure do like to keep everything quiet in some countries! I am American but would definitely like to hear about cases in other countries.

If “Thomas” is convicted of murdering his wife what punishment would he face there? How many years would he get? Is life actually his whole life or like the USA can he get out after many years? Could he end up in a mental institution? 😢 Condolences to her family and friends especially her girls.

Hard to explain, but basically if he gets convicted of murder, then he will most likely get a life sentence. But there is two types of life sentences in switzerland.
1. "Prison sentence" wich is a max. 20 years. After 10 years and/or 15 years of "Prison" the state will check if the person in "Prison" is eligible for parole.
2. "Indefinite custody (mild)" This means the person will stay in prison his entire life, but the state will occasionally check if the person is not a danger to society anymore, and only then will he be eligible for parole.
"Indefinite custody (severe)" The person is in prison for life period.

So, because of privacy laws, no one had known about this incident? I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this happens with a "normal" murder in Switzerland -- does someone disappear and just no one ever speaks of them again? Has no one known she was murdered/gone all these months? Obviously her family would know, but they cannot speak about it? I'm just completely shocked that a high profile, horrific murder occurs and no one says a peep. It actually seems really horrifying in a stepford way.

It's just that LE only shares minimal details about the investigation, arrest & court proceedings with the public, that's all.
But the monster is in jail & will hopefully get the maximum sentence.
@@Galaxie08 No, you misunderstand me. I mean from February until now, no neighbor or colleague has been advised by the police what happened to her? Who is allowed to know? Who did the police inform? Only the immediate family? An employer (were the victim typically employed)? And then it is the family's horrible job to inform all her friends and colleagues, or are they not allowed to say due to privacy for the perp? Can neighbors know that the man they've lived near is a murderer? Are they protecting the perp over the public?

I have already indicated in my original comment, which you have now mischaracterized twice, that I assume her family knew immediately. And obviously I realize they do it differently in every country, which is why I wrote my comment in the first place--i am trying to understand the SPECIFICS of how the information actually does (or does not) get disseminated. It is obvious you do not have this information so there is no need for you to reply further. I do not think the US has (anywhere near) a perfect system but I do believe in the transparency of an investigation and that informing the public allows oversight and that hiding crime (especially domestic and sexual abuse) allows perpetrators to flourish.
