I'd say there's a theatrical Passion they put into their dialogue and portrayals that resonated well with the themes and designs.

As for Bartz, he's supposed to be the bearer of WInd Crystal's power yet he's afraid of heights, in case you don't know.

Kain is probably the most underrated final fantasy character in the series. He's my all time favorite, especially he was always my character of choice as a kid when playing multiplayer with my brother, while he played Cecil. Even as a kid his story captivated me, regardless of his surprising betrayed, he made an amazing comeback!
"My lance shall pierce the dark clouds." The innuendo's are strong with this one.
"My Light shall pierce through your Darkness" is better
I thought it was a reference to his usefulness in fighting Barbariccia.

I feel very sorry for Kain. In Canon, Cecil Rosa and himself grew up together and had healthy relarionships together. The two boys became rivals and both developed feelings for the same girl.
Rosa returns Cecil's feelings as does Cecil returns Rosa's feelings and Kain cant because his love is deemed unrequeted ((however you spell it)) and kept his feelings for her secret, which cause him to be brainwashed by Golbez, in the particular scene where he states "I wanted to keep you by my side" and it just pains me 17 years later ((After years)) he asks Ceodore who his parents are which are Cecil and Rosa and he knew it was too late.
Then Dark Kain got loose and he accepted him that he did hate Cecil at one point and wanted Rosa to himself but he knew it wouldnt work.
Why love someone who deeply loves someone else?!
That aside, Kain is my fave character and if Rosa wont love him I WILL XD

I kind of would like to see an earlier cycle dissdia with Rosa in it, Rosa remembers bits of Kain but not Cecil , Kain remembers both Cecil and Rosa in their entirety, and Cecil has no memory of either
So Rosa would naturally gravitate to Kain being familiar with him and Kain would have to struggle with his own feelings for her and the loyalty he has to Cecil

Jonathan Ayala wouldn't be the first time a voice actor would have to face off against himself. Perhaps he could do what JYB did in Persona 4 in terms of subtle tone changes to separate the two characters.
mas8705 in terms of Kingdom Hearts, Haley Joel Osmeth voices Sora AND Vanitas. They haven't fought, though. Kingdom Hearts 2.8 will feature Aqua against a dark version of herself coming out of the Magic Mirror in the Dwarf Woodlands' portion of the realm of darkness. Plus, David Gallagher voices Riku, and in Chain of Memories, he voiced the Riku Replica, and they fought more than once.
What about Infinite vs Inigo vs Kain? All share the same voice actor

Kain was my best in this game his limit break pwns.
I felt sorry for Kain in IV. Poor guy really couldn't catch a break. His story in the After Years makes me feel better though. I spent that one feeling sorry for Cecil.

Naw its actually kinda common as its a really good way to set up conflict.
For example the rival in the anime Inuyasha is titular character's brother. They grew up as friends, but Inuyasha was given their's father most powerdul sword after their father's death, even though the brother was older and proved to be a more powerful fighter which lead to jealousy.
Mind control just makes it that much easier to accept the once villian as a friend

Heh, I do agree that Kain was obsessed over Rosa. But I see Rosa as a Cecil fangirl. I know it's just me, but I have a hard time seeing her otherwise.

@ScourJful He most definitely had feelings for Kairi that went past friendship in KH1. Riku made that race into a competition. If Sora won, he shared the fruit with Kairi. If Riku won, he did. Riku also enjoys taunting Sora a great deal. It does appear that by the time 358/2 days rolls around, Riku has either grown out of his feelings with Kairi, or has realized that Kairi only has eyes for Sora, and Sora just has to get his head out of his butt and realize that. XD

It's so awkward because Obrian uses TEH EXACT SAME VOICE for both of them. It would be super awkward if Kain and Caius were to appear together in a crossover together.

@ffantasia24 I love Yuna. The girl can pack her punches though - her EX burst literally sends her enemies to hell. She's such a serious case of "beware the nice ones." But I adore her. She's one of my fav FF female characters next to Lightning and Fang. Lightning was badass in 012, but I'd also LOVE to play as Fang in a Dissidia game. She'd be so awesome!
