i think dji fpv is dumb for beginners, realy when you think, when you are learning fpv, dji dont have anythink beginner really needs, it could seems like those features is cool for beginners but 99% of times in practice it useless.. . the price and fragility ratio is outrageous. fixing price cost u about 2-10 regular beginners drones that have pretty mutch same performance/handling or better. besides landing on its own, i gess there no feature beginers realy benefits, especially for the price. for first drone i got tyro79 for 80$ that with better battery outperforms dji fpv and i still have it, crashed many times, so to learn fpv it did cost me around 80$, no soldering, no fixing, no hastle, get out of the box and fly.
I love when you explain things, you seem always so kind and logic and relatable but never boring. It's a skill. And your film making is amazing too. I can see how you have continuously put in the effort over the years. Excited where all this is going 😊
Lexie you're a blessing! I was able to incorporate your tips when flying the FPV! Somehow, I feel that I've got more control of my drone now! This FPV drone is really something, the more I fly it the more I want to get better at it!
the best thing to do is practise bank turns, and emergency stops (manually) the bank turns will slowly hook up the hand eye coordination, you will find you go exactly where you want to go without thinking and the emergency stops will get you used to really messy visuals that you recover from. ps. flying slowly with a fast quad is a whole other skillset, super fun and great images to be had from mixing ultra slow through trees or whatever and then opening up to a big scene. my only real tip for going slow is use the throttle to go down and the pitch to go up, and don't freak out when you clip a branch or are forced to chop some small branches.
I remember 6 years ago my first build and flight of my new quad I was so hard to fly it then couple of flights something just clicked and I got hooked now it’s like nothing have fun never give up and stay fly stay high y’all get there it’s all about stick time
That's what I like about the DJI FPV. I know from experience that learning to fly in manual mode takes a lot of practice. But even if your skills are not there yet, you can still obtain decent FPV shots through flying in N or S mode!
Exactly, I am an experienced FPV pilot. Tried the DJI Drone in Manual mode and was really not impressed... The controller isn't precise enough, the drone doesn't fly nearly as good as my other FPV drones, the footage doesn't look as good, even the fly time wasn't that much better than my 6inch with a big battery. THEN i fly the DJI drone in sport mode and it felt like a much better machine, better tuned, better balanced, footage looks more stable in sports mode too... This is just the way this thing has been designed.
I would really suggest building an fpv quadcopter, they withstand crashes like a tank, unlike the dji fpv drone. You will save a ton of money and learn properly. Not for the faint of heart though.
Well it depends, if you want to just try FPV, the DJi drone is great, now if you want to get really good at it, you'll have to push yourself and crash - and for that you'll need a DIY drone - the DJI drone is made to break so you pay for the DJI care every year.
Not trying to be disrespectful but I hate how people call these stabilized drones (regular drones) it all started with guys in their garages building multi rotors from Wii controllers. they weren't stabilized, they didn't have return to home, no save me button. these are regular drones, as they came first. after that came all of the manufacturers that started putting all of the things that make a multi rotor basically fly themselves. they should be called handicap drones instead of regular drones. just my opinion. 🤔
I bought an air 2s been flying it for about two weeks. Brother brought over his DJI fpv. Flew it once and fell in love. Very easy to fly in all three modes. Of course flying around obstacles takes some practice but still pretty easy to get the hang of

Very interesting to hear about your FPV journey. You can buy a micro whoop quadcopter with Acro mode for about $100. And they're close to indestructable. You could practise Acro flying with one of them and not worry too much about crashing. After a period of time practising with the whoop and the simulator, you could go back to flying the $2000 DJI bird in Acro mode and worry less about crashing it.

Great video and funny too! Hope you stick with FPV because its so rewarding once the controls start to feel natural to you and you can hit tiny gaps all day long. I found with me, the first approx 10hrs on the sim my flying was complete garbage but just persisting with about an hour of practice a day all of a sudden it just clicks into place and your fingers work the controls without you really having to think about it anymore. It's such a difficult move because you basically have to unlearn everything you know about angle mode and it makes it very difficult :) congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inspiring stuff Hannah, I've been flying a Mavic Air 2 for a year and i got the DJI fpv on release and I'm really struggling with manual but I'll keep plugging away until I get there, great first manual flight 👍
FPV manual mode is super different than flying a drone like the Mavic Air 2. Practicing on the simulator will help for sure, I started learning on a tiny hawk and flew inside a lot until I got the hang of it! I absolutely love FPV & I know that you will get better at it and fall in love 😍❤️🤙

It's hard because the rates are too high, and there's no way to change it on the simulator. I started practicing on the DRL sim, and it was so much better. With a few hours of practice, I was flying acro and doing freestyle tricks. The DRL sim has a good tutorial.
I’d definitely say you are an excellent cinematic drone pilot. You are a great inspiration to me. I just started flying this year. Got myself the Mini 2. Also yes that simulator is quite tough, especially when you try to control it just with the phone screen.
I've always wondered how using VR headsets for FPV stack against the drone use laws in Japan. www.mlit.go.jp/en/koku/uas.html [6] Operate UA/Drones within Visual Line of Sight (VLOS). Yeah there’s a few rules pertaining to the use of drones that have headsets, like this FPV drone and they state that if you have a co-pilot that can keep a visual line of site and keep an eye on conditions etc then you’re all good.
Good to see this getting some mainstream popularity. I have been with FPV drone flying from then it used to get amazement from people to the point in which it generated fear in people after years of that I decided to stop for a while for the negative hype died down a bit. Looks like it's time for me to get back into it. Also crashing these are is quite normal even for experienced pilots. Sometimes you just have to learn to not think about the amount of cash you will lose by crashing it. Like on my FPV channel I have videos of me crashing mine trashing, go pros and I think I even got a video of a crash which snapped my FPV drone in half
oh that's cool! I have been in FPV since 2015 :D And yeah we got some bad advertisement during this time, but I am also happy to see it hetting more mainstream now :D
@@MaiOnHigh Yeah I hope it's a bit better I started around 2015 as well but I haven't flown in about a year and a half now. I think I was halfway through building a drone using your frame and I was thinking about how I could make it more rigid when I stopped. haha maybe I should finish that.
@@CurrentlyHannah Yeah, It is I have probably broken about AUD$3000 worth of drone parts at this point and gone through about AUD$4000 of batteries. You're doing better when I started on my first flight I broke 4 motors and 2 speed controllers and broke 2 arms. haha
The years of experience flying a drone in gps or sports mode doesn’t matter when learning to fly in manual mode. Those who wants to fly in manual mode need about 5 to 10 hours of simulator time just to be able to not flip on takeoff and be able to somewhat control the flight direction and speed without crashing. After 100 hours of simulator most people can be quite good at flying near obstacles, go through gaps at high speed and do flips and rolls.
Great Real Person review. Did u think about the Analogue $500 type complete kits or did u just think jump right in. I can’t decide?? Love the digital & tech.
GPS Camera drone people calling themselves drone experts🙄, nothing like manual mode to keep people humble. Aweseom you got some pro feedback. Lexi is awesome and great you're making progress! Keep practicing. I have 40hrs of sim work under my belt and i'm still barely scratching the surface.
I would just suggest that you buy a ready to fly carbon fiber 5 inch drone to practice and learn on they are next to indestructible when compared to the drone you have. Good luck on this exciting journey
Going from almost every DJI to FPV I think the simulator hurts more than helps to a certain point. Nothing compares to actually flying it and what makes the DJI fpv is that it has the “oh crap” button to instantly put you back in normal mode.
Good jobb using the sim to practice before you get up in the air with the drone i manuel mode. Could see that it help you alot from the first clip with the sim ;) keep working and you will be doing some great filming with it :)
Oof, that fpv footage looks so exciting. I swear I leant back in my chair a bit on the dive. After seeing Potato Jet make the switch to FPV from DJI I know it takes obsessive practice to get to a point where you're a natural. Such speed. It looks like it's going to drink video bitrate to get it looking super smooth, though. I'd be surprised if you don't need to upload the full 200mbps at 4k just to get it looking clean on youtube going full speed.
f yea hannah, for your first time in manual mode that was banging. smart girl for doing all that research and training first, 2 grand is alot of dough. most deserving thing i see is the happiness and fun you seem to be having with chris.
Nice one! I've been flying since the 1st gen DJI Phantom (before live video feed). I've been wanting to get into FPV for a while but was disappointed the DJI FPV doesn't do all the intelligent flight modes etc. that the other standard drones do - i.e. you can't use it as an all-in-one device. Just not sure I want to drop so much money on the FPV when I already have a Mavic :/
Yeah it’s definitely not able to be used as a regular drone but honestly I think we’re still a few years away from that kind of technology. Hopefully one day though!
Got my FPV too! Still too chicken to try full manual mode in the real world… 😂 that other simulator looks useful for different practice training!! Thanks for the great video! :) Really really need a big open field!!
@@CurrentlyHannah we’re putting together our DJI FPV video right now, unfortunately the weather and COVID situation has been kinda bad here in Papua New Guinea recently which has prevented ability to go to somewhere isolated enough to really put the FPV through its paces! But I guess it’s just more time available for simulator training! :) simulator with touch controls in manual mode is a bit of a disheartening experience 😂 instant crash!
Some FPV pros say. It's actually bad if you already have a lot of experience with FPV in ANGLE and Hovermode (automatic hovering and gyro stabilization) because that's burned/memorized into your brain. It will then be even harder to get used to ACRO/AIRMODE... If you've never flown an FPV drone (with ANGLEMODE) before, you don't have this annoying brain burn-in... I myself flew drones for 5 years before my first freestyle FPV drone in ACRO. But these were not FPV ACRO drones with a cam. I flew them on sight. But I also spent 10 hours in the simulator before I dared to fly in ACRO/AIRMODE in real life...
Damn! You did a lot of progress!
Thanks again for having me and have fun with FPV!
Thank you Lexie for all your help! Even the simulator last night I was doing stuff I never thought I’d do!

Great Real Person review. Did u think about the Analogue $500 type complete kits or did u just think jump right in. I can’t decide?? Love the digital & tech.
Good job, Hannah! 👍 Great progress and documenting skills! You'll be flying a real 😉 FPV drone soon enough!
you get pretty good after 150h
just keep doing it
Keep flying, you will feel have more control on your drone overall (either on "normal" aerial mode or on "FPV" mode)
Actually sport mode consider insanely good for drone pilot who try to approach DJI FPV
Round of applause!!! 👏👏👏
GPS Camera drone people calling themselves drone experts🙄, nothing like manual mode to keep people humble. Aweseom you got some pro feedback. Lexi is awesome and great you're making progress! Keep practicing. I have 40hrs of sim work under my belt and i'm still barely scratching the surface.
ooooh!
Did you remove the spring for the throttle in the remote for manual mode?
f yea hannah, for your first time in manual mode that was banging. smart girl for doing all that research and training first, 2 grand is alot of dough. most deserving thing i see is the happiness and fun you seem to be having with chris.
Ah so kind Kurt! I’m glad that the simulator is included or else I don’t think I’d ever get to fly it in manual mode haha
Need to learn split s and cordinated turn for cinematic next level
Wow😮.. This is awesome 😍
Love your Nike sweater 👌🏻
The last place where you finally mastered the manual mode in fpv, would you tell the location. The location is awesome.
Great job ... I’ve been too chicken to try out the sports mode ....
When you have fun playing FPV successfully, although I didn't play it, I was very happy too. . . Haha
Got my FPV too! Still too chicken to try full manual mode in the real world… 😂 that other simulator looks useful for different practice training!! Thanks for the great video! :) Really really need a big open field!!
Ahh I know the feeling well but trust me, if I can do it then so can you!
Yeah it’s super disheartening but don’t give up! You can absolutely do it!
Lexie is an awesome pilot & person too:-)
this is really cool!!
You should trying holding the stick using your fingers and thumbs instead of just your thumbs for more control :)
Very nice!!!! She can fly!!!
Good job!
