Really awesome analysis and insights. And jeez thanks for not taking yourselves so f-ing seriously. Your sense of humor adds so much, keep up the great work!
I heard an interesting theory that Blair (black eye woman) is the killer. The camera lingers on her too long for someone with no information to share. Like how in Season 1 Rust talked to the killer on the lawn mower, seemingly an inconsequential encounter.
@@winterhillwarriors between the scene with McKittrick and the post coitus scene with Danvers and Connolly… it definitely gave me that impression, especially the way they made it a point to say the affairs started right after he got married. Just my theory ☺️
Funny how the corpsicle was not the hardest thing to watch in this episode - it was an awkward sex between Jodie Foster with her bra on and the reverent from the Leftovers. Hank is definitely getting catfished but I don't think it'd come up later as anything but a joke, maybe it's even going to help improve relationships between him and his son. I think Rose is going to play a significant role is upcoming events, you don't hire Fionna Shaw just to play some episodic character. Clarke is doing things hoping to connect to/resurrect his beloved Annie but he is manipulated by someone else. Someone from the mine has their hand in this case. I wonder if there's going to be a time jump in the next episode as it was a tradition in the series so far.
100% agree, that sex scene was absolutely outrageous and tough to watch. You might be onto something with the time jump. I also wonder how much McKittrick knows about everything
Clarice and The Ninth Doctor having sexy time is not on my 2024 bingo card. I do have to say it was a pretty realistic depiction of two aging fuck buddies acting like they first did it two decades ago.
@@winterhillwarriors, I also think that eventually there will be a time jump into the past, since the roots of the two crimes - the killing of Annie K and the killing of the scientists - are in the past. And the iconic spiral has been around for a long time. It was introduced ten years ago in the first season, but according to Rose the spiral is older than the ice in Ennis. Question: I think that you summed up well what has been going on so far. But why didn't you take a closer look at the apparently totally impossible survival of Anders Lund? If he had really been out there for a couple of days naked and frozen solidly into the corpsicle sculpture like the other guys, he could not have survived this ordeal. According to our contemporary medical knowledge no mammal could survive this. And how could they separate Anders Lund so quickly from the ice block that they were able to rush him to the hospital before the rest of the corpsicle sculpture was transported to the ice rink??? It also doesn't make sense that the detectives and everybody else who witnessed Lund's resurrection, take his miraculous survival in stride. After we have seen Liz in the hospital, where she learned that one of Lund's legs needed to be amputated, this whole crazy incident is not mentioned again by anyone for the rest of the episode! Everybody in Ennis should be talking about this sensational miracle and how this was even possible! Was it witchcraft and connected with the spiral on Lund's face? Or will the show venture into the realms of science fiction, and Lund's resilience has something to do with the research of the scientists? Many TD fans resent this apparent excursion into high strangeness territory. But maybe the scriptwriters bamboozled us. Could there be a rational explanation for Lund's survival which we don't see because we made too many wrong assumptions? Maybe there is a sound explanation after all. Why do we assume that Lund was frozen into the icy sculpture at the same time as all the other scientists? We cannot know this for sure! Maybe Anders Lund arrived at the location later than his co-workers. This would mean that he wasn't exposed to the arctic temperatures as long as the others, and therefore he may not have been frozen solidly into the corpsicle sculpturpe. This could also explain why they could separate Lund so quickly from the ice block. Such a scenario is much more likely, and it doesn't need sci-fi or supernatural elements. There are a few famous real-life cases of people who survived a lengthy exposure to freezing temperatures, and only lost a few limbs. But so far no human being whose body was completely frozen, has survived this. I am not aware, yet, of anything which would exclude a late arrival of Lund. Maybe, we will learn more about this in the next episode. We still don't know, yet, how the scientists died. I don't think that they simply froze to death because that takes some time. Unless all of them have been shock frozen within a few seconds, freezing to death could not produce the corpsicle sculpture with knotted limbs, raised arms and contorted faces. The scientists were probably killed by something else. And if Anders Lund arrived later at the location of the sculpture, he might not have been killed along with the others. I am not at all sure that my speculations are entirely correct. Probably not. But it's possible to explain Anders Lund's survival rationally without the help of supernatural and/or sci-fi elements. Maybe the show-runners haven't jumped the shark after all - at least not yet 😊
Thanks for this review. I enjoyed your style. Just wanted to say that I don't think you meant to say "PTSD" but instead meant "trauma." PTSD is when you have trauma that leaves a lot of dysfunctional problems for someone. Trauma is something that can lead to PTSD for some people, but if they don't have significant problems they may just be traumatized. Like how a tree can be hit by lightning and either die, grow stunted from then on, or recover with scars and grow just as healthy as they were prior to the lightning incident. And I'm saying this as a psychologist, so it's my field of expertise. Cheers!
When cells are frozen they get damaged. If the ancient bacteria has been frozen for thousands (millions?) of years the samples might be too damaged to get any results from them.
I haven’t read comments, but anyone notice it’s an exact excerpt from The Dark Tower? “The fabric of things is thin and the world is old” is almost word for word. They called spots like that a Thinny. And guess who was The Man in Black, aka Red King? Matthew M. And they also had similar facilities at the Beam stations in Dark Tower. Then there’s “The gunslinger fled across the desert, and the man in black followed.” It’s literally called The Wasteland. If that’s not an Ennis type place, nothing is. In season 1, the Iron Crusader dude literally said “I need a gunslinger.” Again, Roland was literally the last Gunslinger.
Hands down my new favorite channel for episode breakdowns. The only sub that I have ever turned on notifications for. I'm so tired of breakdowns where it's clearly some narcissist ripping off other channels while paging through a thesaurus and surrounding themselves with books they haven't read. By far the only channel you need for in-depth, insightful with a unique perspective. For once I'm happy with RUclips for populating my feed.
Absolutely loving your guys episode and season breakdowns! There feels like a lot of similarities and parallels in season 4 to the films 'Wind River' (2017) and 'Underwater' (2020). Also, you should research the mythology of Sedna, as she could very well be the local legend that Darwin had drawn in episode 1. Sedna could be the one who's "awake". Just some food for thought.
Love your breakdowns of True Detective I appreciate the details and the way you guys talk. It’s pretty much the same way I would talk if me n my friends were discussing the show. Season one is obviously amazing but I’m really digging this season 4, it’s definitely got my attention. Keep covering it I’ll be back watching for sure. Great work!

She has missing digits from her right hand as shown on the fingerprints gathered from the crime scene.
