As a Lions fan during his era, I was always concerned for the health of my favorite players when Plank was on the field. He seemed to come out of nowhere... operating at a different speed than anyone else.... and he ran right THROUGH people. Glad to see him get his due here. Much respect to Doug.

The Monsters of the Midway was the perfect name for the Chicago Bears of this era. Win or lose.. You just knew you were in for a beating and Doug Plank was a force all his own. Great Player !

Little known fact (me included): The Monsters of the Midway nickname originated with the Univ. of Chicago football teams of the 1920s. It was adopted by the Bears during their domination of the 1930s NFL.

I met him in AZ in 1993 or so. Very funny, very smart, a great storyteller, and an all-around great guy.

Thank you very much! It was between two songs for the main theme.. two very different vibes for sure, both with big hit capability, but definitely a different tone.. and this one ended up winning after some testing, haha.. so I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yes and the editing to match it is very good. Those drum thumps right when Plank makes a hit. My three favorite Bears are Walter Payton, Dick Butkus, and Doug Plank.

Dude kinda looks and seems like an earlier version of Pat Tillman. Down to earth, smaller stature, but will absolutely knock the damn piss out of you when you catch the ball. Didn’t know he existed till right now. Thank you for uploading this!

Fearless! They don't make hitters like him anymore! Like Tatum, that's Buckeye mentality! ❤

It was nice to see Gary Fencik adopt this style of play too -- the airborne missile.

I've been a Bears fan since 68, Plank was the hardest hitting Bear I've ever seen...he had the whole league scared to come to Chicago...

Doug Plank played at a Hall of fame level through out his career.
My favorite Plank highlight was when Plank took revenge on Earl Campbell right after Gary Fenick injured himself tackling Earl Campbell .

growing up, this is why I chose to play Baseball instead. and when I did play football with my friends, it was tag football. 🤣🤣🤣 growing here in Chicago, I remember Plank and Gary Fencik.

This was the era I started watching football....probably explains why I find myself getting less and less interested in the NFL today...

Plank, fundamental linebacker. Plank length, our smallest measurement of unit that we base everything off of.
When building the perfect linebacker, start with 46, then add 56.

Not just the Bears, but defences of that era would send so many of today’s offensive players to the ER and on the IR, that they’d probably have to double the size of the rosters.

Most savage hitter of all time. Tatum, Atwater, Lynch, Cam Chancellor and others all big hitters but Plank was the most brutal. Just ask Jimmy Giles...if he can still speak. Guy was a human torpedo.

Having the most revolutionary defense of all time enshrined as your jersey number is worthy of the Hall of Fame by itself

The scariest secondary is still Plank at SS, Cecil at FS, Lott at RCB (before he switched to safety) and Blount on the other corner. With Atwater and Easley trading off on "nickels".
