I feel like the effects go a long way, when you put the focus on them (like in Raging Demon) and it feels like they are overwhelming the opponent in some way, it creates this image of power. It's easy to do that with blood because we know what it means, but yeah it can also be done with effects that represent energy or motion.
A Potato raging demon has to be one of best finishing moves in fighting that doesn't use gore.

Unfortunately development just ended up getting dropped. I think you can see that some of these were pretty rushed.

I think when you’re playing the game and you have to quote on quote earn the super through good play it does feel very satisfying, I feel the supers could’ve been improved if the game had a mature age rating but because KI has always been a teen game I can understand it
Max is ALWAYS super biased when it comes to ki, but imagine loving a game alot when you were younger then getting a chance to help develop its sequel

Idk, some of the ultimates look pretty cool. But the rest were either lame or underwhelming.
Its the T rating. Glacius, Aganos, Thunder, and Kilgore have some of the best. But this isn't MK so they can't be too graphic.
I won't deny, the ones you listed are pretty cool (especially Kilgore and Glacius). But most wouldn't look any better even if they *did* show them dying. Like Spooder Chick.
While I'll agree that this game is a T rated game, can you honestly tell me that they couldn't reanimate some of the old Ultimates (or fatalities if you want to be a nerd) from KI gold? Especially when they were extremely lacking in the gore department when compared from Mortal Kombat? I understand that the developers don't have the manpower to make these as great as Netherrealm's fatalities, but if they're going to spend the time and resources to make them, they should at least make them worth considering instead of making an ultra more desirable. In the purpose of being constructive, if another KI game is made, and they start out with 5 characters just as before, I believe there should be one Ultimate for one specific character, then they add another when 3 more characters are added. Not only would this save up on time and resources, but it also gives more room for improvement to make them more desirable than a simple ultra.

I don't know man imo that Shadow Jago one was kind of wack, it was basically a slower version of sabrewulf with no pay off
the first half of tj max ultimate was great, then the end just fell flat.
The beginning and end seemed very solid, there's just an underwhelming amount of punches/attacks
I fucking love this game and it's in-combat animations. But i think the cinematic stuff is definitely janky and motion tweeny in some parts with the exception of a good half of the roster (TJ's is actually pretty awesome)
It has a really good beginning but it has such a limp ending. You really expect something to seal the deal after the final punch but they just get knocked away it sort of just stops

He has also stated that scores given in each episode of "Rate the Super" are contextual based on the game for that particular episode. Other game franchises and even previous games in the same series cannot be taken into account or compared to.

Depends... I mean, if the throat's vocal chords are occupying most of it, (intermediate anatomy isn't my forte) a throat slashing like that would leave you like Claude Speed from GTA 3, and probably not kill you. But the shock certaintly would on someone like TJ Combo.

Once I saw the notification, I immediately clicked. Also, I’ve been waiting for a Rate The Super on KI for a while.
I dunno man, so many have characters moving super fast and it makes everything look so jank. Glacius stands out to me because it's so chaotic. One's like TJ were nice because it felt like there was some impact and it didn't have an awkward zoom in to his face.
Hisako was good because the jerky animation and the sudden close up to her face work for her character.
I wish max would do one of these for def Jam fight for ny that game has some brutal blazing moves

There's no way Fulgore's is a 9. It's literally his Instinct move, with cinematic camera angles. There's no creativity to his at all. Max's bias levels are through the roof on this one.

I think the best "fatality" type finishers in any game are the ones that don't just have random hits thrown in that have nothing to do with the rest of the finisher, and that also completely show what the character is about. I'd agree that Hisako has one of the best ones. Kilgore's is great, also.

For a series that never focused on supers or ultimates as much as ultras, these were so well made.
Everyone complaining that Max is Biased and rating these too high, remember that *every single* Rate the ____ video is comparing the game against itself. Most of these Ultimates would be 3s at best in other games, but in the context of KI alone, something has to be the best.
Yes, his Fulgore bias comes through and he admits it. Yes his Hisako bias comes through but I agree, it's one of the best in the game. And throughout the video he points out that many of them lack that hard impact final hit, that death cry, just something to give it more 'ultimate' impact, and that is likely due to the game's rating and budget.
And let's not forget these are his opinions. Yours can totally differ. I see nothing wrong with the way Max rated these.

Some of these characters can DEFINITELY get their ultimate upped next game (if they make one).
Feel their potential was missed.
Camera angles felt they were last second.
The final shots of the character feel like they're idle more than a unique pose for the ultimate.
Alot looked goofy for what it's supposed to be.
Very silent.
I know they're ultimates can be better so it's why it's easier to be critical, especially with a game that's has so much power in it.

Not a fan of these so called ultimates. They're more like super combo finishers.
Yeah, they really don't seem like they're Killing the opponent. There's always something missing in the end. No dever, I like this concept of an execution with implicit gore.
I wish they were more super like. Seems like the path to go since they can't do gore, but they have an... awkwardness to a number of them. Now thinking about it, I think it's because they try to be anime and cinematic about it, but it feels off because not all the proper effects are there.
The original games had ultimates. These are okay but they're just meant to say I beat you without losing a life bar.

I really can't agree with max with most of these. Yes, i get that they can't show gore an all that, but that's precisely the reason why I think most of them are just plain bad. With so many blade wielding characters hacking at eachother only to "imply" they've killed the other guy, followed wit a bad chinese movie closeups is just meh.
Yeah, I didn't like the ultimates neither. They look uninspiring and awkwardly animated.
I think Max's scores are being rated against each other more than in general (as he says in other Rate the Super vids). Plus these Ultimates were more of an afterthought when the True finisher of the game is an Ultra Combo
@@UltimateAnimeGamer trying to catch people's "nostalgia" by adding a subpar version of things that look way better in their SNES and N64 version makes the game suffer. Just toss in the appropriate sound effects and a splash/drop of blood here and there would have done wonders, but instead we got this.

Thunder's is pretty neat because he dwarfs even Aganos before the finish. Really sells his intimidation factor.
Doing Hisako's Stage Ultra with Rash is pure gold.
Love the narrator's voice it's awesome and the way he says spinal and spinal's laughter always been cool thunders kuku the slowing down of the frames for the n64 killer instinct gold was that the inspiration for the stop motion attacks for the new killer instinct
I totally understand why and it's his personal opinion, but I definitely would say that Max thinks much, much higher of this game than most people
It's one of the best fighting games to come out in a LONG time. Has all the features the retards at Kappa claim to want. Only problem is they suck at this game just like they suck at all the rest. Unfortunately, they can't make up bullshit claims about "No defense" "It's all defense" "No way to come back" "Comeback factor too strong".
It has a great roster with a great gameplay but these finishers would mostly get 6 and below in any other fighting game from max himself.

They're freaking out and at the last hit it all goes silent.
These are so incredibly bland. There's no impact to anything, there's no sound to sell the effect, it feels like it's running at 2X speed, the backgrounds are pure black. You know what else is T rated? Injustice and the supers there are way better. Now, you might argue that there isn't the same budget, they can't do environments changes like the Flash's timewarp, and fair enough but geez, surely they could have come up with something at least more impactful than this.
KI was worked on very oddly. They released characters one by one each season and they never thought of adding Ultimates to begin with. If I remember correctly, when season 1 was done, people wondered if they were gonna bring back Ultimates since the season 1 story/arcade mode had you fight Shadow Jago.
And sometimes if you lose to him, he did an Ultimate. People asked about it and they said they aren't bringing back Ultimates. Obviously they did, eventually and perhaps a thanks for supporting KI, but to a select characters.
I'm sure they wanted to do all of them but they knew most, if not all, the Ultimates are lacking in some aspects. And it possibly has to do with budget or possibly something else, more than likely wanting to please Microsoft and keeping the game a T rating so it can sales from both teens and adults. Nonetheless, people still love the Ultimates even they lack certain things.
Honestly, I never expected them to add Ultimates but let alone I never expected them to reboot KI. Everyone has their opinions though.

I like them, but hard to find one I love. Thunder's was cool, and funny with rash. The camera work was off and weird to me, making some good underwhelming. May be what Max said about the T rating limitation weakened them.
