When KI first hit the mall arcade rooms, there used to be a line out the door to play. Those who couldn't play watched in awe at how fantastic it looked.
I remember being like 11 years old and rocking orchids 65 hit combo on people. I was in elementary school player but all of the older kids new to watch out for me they all knew I could play.
The run and punch move at the end of the fall after the air launch was a nice personal touch. The timing has to be on point. Never seen it done by anyone else
I remember my first ultra combo It was Ki gold on n64 with glacius, I did a jump kick into crouch kick uppercut and suddenly I did like 20 uppercuts in a row. It blew my little kid mind
My first Ultra was with Tusk. I hadn’t realized I was doing the combo until he started doing the circular swing with his sword. I finished with a 52 hit combo. Me and my bros were flabbergasted
I don't really know why folks are dogging on KI 2013 in the comments here. It wasn't intended to be a remake of the original. It was intended to bring the series into a modern gaming setting, which it did. It was interesting in that you could pay for the game, and get the characters, but if you were unsure you could get the game for free with a rotating character, and it followed the seasonal format we see nowadays. KI 2013 was a huge success for Microsoft, and if anything it just brought more attention to the series as a whole.
The people who don't like the new one are those are stuck in the nostalgia. I grew up with the arcade games but the new games is so much fluid that makes it a better game. Though the only character i didn't really like in the new one was Sabrewulf.
Bunch of nostalgic wannabes. Love the first one, I grew up with it (and skipped the N64 version), but you have to be remain objective and appreciate the new one as well.
The new KI is honestly one of the GOAT fighters, but a lot of people didn’t play it because MS dropped the ball so hard with the Xbone launch. Also most people didn’t try it because it was a Rare IP under MS which most people had written off at that point. Most FGC people stick with SF, MK, or Tekken and don’t stray too far from that. So competitively it’s niche and the most hardcore fans stick with it. Most of the people in the comments probably played the first on SNES once or twice and consider themselves “fans,” but probably wouldn’t bother to play a game of any of the three of them if they had the opportunity.
The new Ultras are great! The idea of hitting your opponent to the rhythm of music is amazing.The Nintendo Ultras were good in their time but they were random hits. The only thing missing was the finishing blow on the Ultra to make it an ULTRAAAAAAA! 8:15
Played a lot on 64, but the arcade was where it was at. Nothing better than putting your quarter up on the machine, waiting your turn, busting someone up, pull an ultra, and stand back as the machine screams Ultra Combo in the face of your opponent while the whole arcade turns, looks, and yells OOOHHHHH!!!
I never really played the 2013 version but the visuals on most of the characters are a massive upgrade. The only two I like classics better was Combo and Kim Wu.
Ki 2/gold was the first one I did over 60 plus combo with Glasius . That multi hit uppercut. Opportunity was missed here to showcase the newer version I think.

I think across the three, Orchid and/or Combo are my favorites overall. Glacius, on the other hand... I didn't think it was possible to have a worse Ultra than an Ultra that someone is literally invisible for half of it, and yet... I would also be remiss if I didn't give at least a shoutout to Sabrewulf. He was absolutely my favorite character from the original two games.
THE WINNER IS.... KILLER INSTINCT 1 ( 1994 ) There are only 2 ultras that I highlight from Killer 2, the one from Tusk, very good, and the one from Spinal, in Killer 2 it is better than in Killer 1, then, from Killer 2013, I can't rescue any of them, they are horrible, pure lights , effects, nothing is understood, and they look like "supers" from King of Fighters because when starting the ultra, they make a gesture that shows that "the ultra starts there", before that wasn't there, the ultra started without you realizing it, and that I think it's much better... JAGO's one from killer 1, it's simply "BEAUTIFUL".
I always like Riptor's kicks with her feet in the air on her tail. I also really like Aria's Ultra the best, but Shadow Jago is probably the best all around. It's just too flavorful.
