I have to say that the KP is one of the best APS-C cameras ever. It functions so amazing, great focus, great lenses and I still love optical viewfinders. I ended up purging my Fuji’s because I just love the KP. Long live the DSLR!! 😀
One of the things I like about the KP is the size. The mirrorless cameras I’ve held all seemed so small, like they’d be uncomfortable to hold for long periods. I’m probably missing something but I don’t see a huge advantage to switching to mirrorless at this point.
I may be one of a handful on the planet that uses these two systems: Pentax and Fuji. The K-1 full frame is great for landscapes, plus the body is weather sealed and has IBIS. It is heavy and is almost always on a tripod. The XT-3 is a wonderful hybrid mirrorless camera. For travel, video and street photography, it’s always the Fuji. For landscapes, and bad weather, it’s the Pentax.
I use the k1 and the Fuji xt30. Good complimentary cameras . The k1 is at least for me definitely not so heavy that it has to be used with a tripod, but I do appreciate the portability of the xt30. The k1 is a pro camera for me, both portraits , commercial and landcape. Top notch quality and cheap weatherproofness. But I also love the Fuji for everyday shooting around the house and stuff
I use my k100d and k20d still awesome! I totally disagree that dslr is dead. Mirrorless is a trend ans yes they produce gorgeous photos BUT still a long way to go to compete to dslr when it comes to battery, stability and a bunch of other factors. Plus pentax has ten times more lens than sony and other mirrorless cameras
By the title of the video, I expected a more elaborate take on why "DSLRs are dead" or how this particular camera fails to inspire faith in DSLRs (even though no one really expects it to - it's Pentax after all, the underdog). Instead, the video is basically "you know, this camera has nice features, takes nice pictures, but DSLRs are yesterday's news, so whatever".
The experience of looking through a n actual prism is an experience that just can’t be replaced with digital. I love shooting with old glass and for that reason alone will purchase the Pentax KP. I had a Canon 5DII and a 50D with $15,000 in L lens . Used Canon for over twenty years. Canon gone and done with!
@@kevinKLITZ Because a DSLR is still a real camera and feels the part. Mirrorless is *too* digital. Everything about it is digital right down to the viewfinder. No thanks... I was actually worried about mirrorless happening and taking over 20 years ago. It was one of the biggest reasons I was apprehensive about the big switch from film to digital.
@@kevinKLITZ in wildlife photography, would you rather see the wild animal or a sensor's digital representation of it? Mirrorless cameras are good and are the future but there some things that can't be replaced by EVFs. OVFs bring intimacy between the photographer and the subject unlike any other. p.s. I'm coming from mirrorless cameras and switched to DSLR.
Scott Graham Canon sells the most dslrs. They may be low end soccer mom cameras, but they still sell the most. Sony making sales yes, but dead, hardly.
Yadda, yadda, yadda, you are one of the many people who would love to put the final nail in the Pentax coffin, and yet, they are still here with a very loyal following, and still innovating. DSLR will continue to have a long life, can't beat looking through the lens. Mirrorless will do OK, but it isn't the cat's ass just yet.
It won't be long before they're using relatively modern smartphone camera sensors to do the lightmetering, at which point full-on hybrid (plase-detect with contrast confirmation) autofocus through the OVF will be possible, as well as AF points all the way across the frame, and face/eye/bird/bee/ant/raindrop/whatever detect. At that point, it should be lights-out for mirrorless, but I'm sure there are a few masochists who like straining their eyes to look at an EVF for extended periods of time... more power to 'em, I guess. Hell, Ricoh-Pentax has already confirmed that they've achieved face, eye, and bird detection using the new 307 kilopixel sensor for the meter...and mindless idiots will still go in there to the K-3 III announcement video and comment "2009 wants its camera back"... /facepalm
Just because this dude is making claims, it does not mean he is right. I love my Pentax K-1. There is not a Sony yet produced that makes me wanna switch...
What about a Canon? Or a Nikon? Or a Panasonic? Or a Fuji? I honestly love Pentax. I own half a dozen Pentax film SLRs and the K1 and K1ii are special cameras. But they need to offer specs that are at least competitive with other brands or else they won’t be around much longer.
@@Scott_Graham I agree. However, It fulfills my needs to a large extent. And I like the way I get inspired me when I grab hold of it! On a spec sheet there is obviously not too many advantages.
The new FF Pentax cameras are really good and weatherproofed as standard. I have the Pentax 50mm sdm aw which tokina opera also makes on licence from Pentax and it's one of the best if not the best 50 mm ever made. Paired with the k1 which is maybe the FF camera with the best dynamic range ever made a combo that can compete with most systems at a lower price. I also have the 70-200 star lens and the 15-30 Tamron rebrand for Pentax and both those are premium pro grade lenses. Before these three lenses and the k1 came they were lacking a good ff system but now and with the 85 mm coming soon they're filling a DSLR FF gap since canikon is going for mirrorless like many others but many people still prefer dslr
@@Scott_Graham there's a large group of people that are perfectly fine with 1080p if you're talkin video list of people using these cameras are using it for still 4K is overrated
DSLR s are not dead . Mirrorless are great , and I have a Sony A7RIII , but I still prefer to use my Niko. D750 over it . It just feels better in the hand and its AF Despite not having Eye AF still feels snappier .
Autofocus is generally underrated and overrated most of the cameras don't perform the focus that they're going to say in af Focus.. yeah right 24 frames per second if it's a static subject. A lot of great photographs are taken with manual focus
What about the original first K1 or the K5 I'm trying to see if I can score a K1 for a thousand autofocus is not my priority I have a lot of manual came out lenses and m42
I have a kp and I love the size and the feel of it. It isn't much bigger than a pentax mx. Almost the same width. To me it is the most like a digital equivalent of a film camera you can buy. Generally Pentax quality is also amazing. My k10d was dropped and apart from some scuffing no damage....also I would never want to be a sheep and buy Sony.
I love how people like this move the market a particular way and values follow. The taste of people in general has reverted to..."what was old is now new and better made, and cooler". It's a nostalgic wave and everyone's riding it. Just a minute ago, I was getting killer deals on film cameras, but now there up. Was getting awesome deals on m42 glass or just plain manual lenses from the 50's through the 80's now there up. And now....because people are jumping on the mirrorless bandwagon, you can find dslr's for dirt cheap. Same goes for just about anything analog. Funny thing is, some folks will start using some of this old shit, find out the limitations or hardships of such equipment, only to revert back to new tech. Or...switch systems (as in dslr vs mirrorless) and find the differences benign, or not worth the price of admission in the first place. But, awwwww ins't democracy great, and soooo self indulgent.
Leica rangefinder + back monitor + EVF finder works well still today. Optical single reflex system + back monitor works as well.... It is just a matter of personal preferences. When the mirror is up, it is a mirrorless..... when a mirror is down it is DSLR.
DSLRs offer one thing that no mirrorless can, one thing that many people still value: an optical viewfinder with proper focusing information. You have two options for that, either a DSLR or a true rangefinder. The latter is not for everyone's taste, and even if it was, it wouldn't make a difference as it is hardly accessible because the single digital rangefinder manufacturer in the world is a premium German brand, who make cameras so expensive that normal people simply can't afford. Some may argue that some Fuji cameras (X100 and X-Pro) have optical viewfinders, but there is no focusing information there, you have to trust the camera. Long story short, DSLRs are certainly not dead yet, and I don't think anytime soon will they be. The only possible way for DSLRs to be dead, I think, is a breakthrough in the development of EVF technology to a point where the naked eye can't tell the difference between an OVF and an EVF. Which is possible, but not soon. Definitely not now. (I'm not even mentioning the DSLR reliability in action/sport stuff.)
It will happen at some point, but it will take a display with a pixel density that would make Apple's famed "retina displays" seem like coarse sandpaper by contrast.
The market is so fucking fickled right now. Hipsters set the world on fire and its not subsiding anytime soon. I'm sure we'll come to our senses after some new wave tech slaps us in the face again...but when will that be. That's the problem, so little has changed in tech, for at least a couple decades. All they offer us is new colors, or a different wrap of paper over the same old boring shit.
Should have kept the KP for a different experience. People like the older cameras because they have a personality you sometime don't find with the latest and greatest.
I shoot both Nikon DSLRs and Fuji mirrorless. Love em both. I'm curious about trying Pentax. That being said, from your video, I'm not sure I understand why DSLRS are dead. And everything you said about the Pentax KP makes it sound quite incredible to me.
"DSLR is dead" is youtube hivemind crap for people who can't do research. (D)SLRs are simply returning to the niche market they always were except for a bubble in the 2000s. Before the great switch to digital, compact cameras pretty much always outsold SLRs. Then in the 2000s, most affordable compact digital cameras were straight-up horrible; bad image quality and shutter lag for days. And smartphones as we know them today didn't exist yet; the iPhone that started the revolution wouldn't be released until 2007, and wouldn't get to the point of having a really decent camera until 2010. So, for this transitionary period, if you wanted *good* pictures, but you weren't a hobbyist or pro, you had two choices: stick with film, or buy a DSLR. Not wanting to be limited to 24 or 36 exposures at a time, and not wanting to have to 'pay per pic' in essence, many people jumped on board with a DSLR kit; most of them never bought any other lenses, they just used the kit lens. Once [smart]phone cameras 'caught up' in the 2010s, they started to devastate the camera industry, and the DSLR sales bubble burst. Manufacturers took existing long-zoom EVF 'compacts' and gave them bigger (APS-C and full-frame) sensors and interchangeable lenses to fix the image quality problem, fixed the shutter lag problem,, called them "mirrorless" cameras, and unleashed one hell of a marketing campaign, to re-energize interest in discrete cameras. It worked for a few years, but just before the pandemic hit, that bubble was showing the signs of an imminent burst, too. [D]SLRs aren't dead, nor will they be; Nikon recently announced a couple new ones. Ricoh-Pentax is releasing a new one this month, and has flat-out said they're not stopping any time soon. But, they've returned to being the niche market they always were. Simple as that. I suspect that before too much longer, we'll realize ML cameras are bound to be just as much of a niche market. Both serve a different set of needs and tastes. Personally, ML is just too digital for me. And honestly, I consider them to be video cameras that - unlike the digital camcorders of old - can actually take good pictures. The KP, though? Go get one. Seriously.
It's not that the camera is big and heavy, but rather that your hands are small and weak. It's fortunate for you that Fuji makes cameras better suited to small-handed weak people.
Once upon a time I heard film cameras are dead. Today they're back and their prices increased. You must say the Pentax KP doesn't correspond to your need which is different...
this video was fcking absolutely terrible and so frustrating to try to sit through. the guy didnt even give one single reason and just rambled about what camera he should buy. i fcking hate this bullshlt wave of wanna be "creators" that try to sway the general market one way or the other. its fcking so stupid and aggravating
Dig your videos, but can't say I can agree with you on this point. I've shot Konika(Minolta) and Nikon for years, then moved to Fuji (XT-1 and Xpro2) - actually changed system to Pentax (K1 II) a few months ago. I absolutely love it, the IQ is amazing and I had been missing some aspects of the OVF, especially when it's a big, bright prism like on the K1. Sure, I do miss the EVF at times - but have to say that it's getting more and more rare. Using the confirmation beep for vintage glass in the OVF is more effective than focus peaking for me. But yeah, I see why mirrorless brings advantages for many, and the ability that having processing done on the entire sensor feed does open doors for many more innovations in the future for mirrorless. None the less, Im sticking with Pentax for now.
Opinions on this platform are just that, you're entitled to your opinion but not everyone feels the same as you. I started digital photography over 16 years ago with a Pentax K100D Super, over the years I added many newer bodies including the Kp, k5 MKII, K3, K3 MKII & MKIII also a full frame K1 MKII. i also have many mirrorless cameras from Fujifilm, Panasonic, Olympus, NIKON ,Sony and one Canon, and it's not a mirrorless cameras but a 90 D DSLR. before I purchased my first DSLR, i used film cameras for many years from my early teens to almost 50 years of age. I used Pentax DSLR's to shoot a wide variety of subjects and I was also involved in event photography including weddings for a number of years.. film cameras are making some what of a come back, but after using them for so many years I would never go back. I like shooting with a camera that you don't have to turn on to look through the viewfinder and the battery life is so much better. So that's just two of many reasons why I still enjoy using DSLR'S. i don't use a smartphone for photos as the experience of taking photos with one sucks and film camera are a pain in the back side. I purchased a Nikon ZF and the Fujifilm XT3, XT5 are my favorite cameras too use for a film like experience with out the limits of a film camera. Some people say digital cameras are to sterile and i guess that is why film cameras are coming back, but when I want to shoot in a slower pace and more thoughtful approach i use my Pentax cameras or the ZF or Fujifilm cameras. Everyone has the ability to chose a camera that suits them best but as far as getting into Digital photography on a budget, DSLR'S are hard to beat.
This guy got a free camera to make a review. Instead he mentions the camera is good, blabbers about unrelated things and says he will sell the camera..... I wonder when will the industry wake up and realise giving free things to “influencers” is just not effective.
You don't like the camera, but you don't know why you don't like the camera. Right after you say a bunch of great things about it. Hmmm.... Been a pro Pentaxian for over 30 years. It's a joy to shoot with their stuff and my clients are always happy. You'll have to pry my Pentax gear from my cold dead fingers.
Dude do you even know the history of photography.. I constantly run into Little fan boys like you Leica m240 is around your neck Sony a7s around your neck but when somebody actually asked you who your five favorite photographers are? It's usually a Blank Stare.
@@unbroken1010 Do you even know how to take a good photo? I don’t give a shit if you read books about photography. If you can’t take a good photo, then fuck off.
The X-pro1 is good the KP is far from big and is excellent. Your original premise for reviewing it was a sure sign that you wouldn’t keep it. Not completely sure what you were scared of. There is a new flagship APSC Pentax body in the pipeline you could give that a try when it lands.
I saw the report that Sony is doing well and they should because they are highly innovative, but camera sales as a whole are still down in general. Tony Northrup had an interesting thought on his channel and he said in general neither Canon or Nikon based off of their sales both being really down can not afford to go all in with mirrorless due to a large part of the glass that most of the glass that they sell is for DSLR and their DSLR sales in general are stronger than their mirrorless sales. I do think Canon is bringing out better glass than Nikon for mirrorless. I don’t think The DSLR is going anywhere soon and will co exist while Canon and Nikon figure things out. Nikon will limp on for another year or two with the Z series as they are not in the best position financially and they will continue to improve the z series through firmware and price reductions. Canon while in a stronger position and has two mirrorless cameras, one at 2299.00 and one at 1299.00, must make a decision that they are not ready for in mirrorless, do they keep crippling their mirrorless cameras or come out with something competitive. Sony, doesn’t need to do anything as you see they haven’t released anything yet and don’t need to do to lack of innovation on the part of Nikon or Canon. Sony isn’t worried about Fuji Or Panasonic but they should be because Fuji is a dark horse in this race or the tortoise. Fuji skipped full frame and devoted its resources to outstanding glass for APSC and linking its high end future to Medium Format and driving Medium Format prices down with now three offerings and one of those, the range finder is around the Nikon D850 price, especially used. Their newest offering is 102 megapixels and at 10,000 is well below a Phase One at 40,000 dollars. Fuji will force Hasselblad or Phase One out of business or force them to reduce prices, bringing Medium Format to the hands of everyday people. At 4, 6 and 10 grand and as we all know that 10,000 at the highend will be 7,000, to 5000 thousand in two years in Nikon d5 or D6 or highend Canon dslr territory. Fuji has bought a printing business in Xerox and they might be redefining the camera business with APSC on the low end with better video features than even the Sony 6500 or 6400 and no heat issues and Medium Format on the high-end. If that is the case Sony would have to come up with a new mount because the body couldn’t hold a bigger sensor and the heat even if they could would create problems. If you were talking about micro four thirds being dead soon, I would have to agree as Panasonic is hedging their bets and offering a Full Frame option, but it’s future is uncertain. I will be keeping my two DSLR bodies because I have plenty of glass for them, but I did add a mirrorless body to my kit for video.
I'm not going to read this whole comment let's put it this way Sony sold 24 million A7 even though the a 7 3 I think it was the most recent sales were I think under 3 million in the same year that's a big drop
I own and shoot over a dozen film SLRs. What I mean is that DSLRs will be replaced by mirrorless. People will still shoot with DSLRs but they’re a dying technology.
Er, considering it is a serious DSLR, the KP is anything but big IMHO. (There have been reviewers complaining that it was too small for their hands, and even I prefer the form factor of the K-7/K-5/K-3 series.) Heavy? Well, that's the high-quality, magnesium-chassis build that you're feeling. Ultimately, it may not be for you, I get it, but your rationale for the supposed demise of the DSLR is a bit sketchy, to say the least. And you're stressing yourself that it produces gorgeous, highly-malleable RAW files. Ricoh's implementation of the Pentax focus peaking will sure add to the appeal of the KP to Pentax legacy glass users.
Disappointed. Thought this was going to be a review from the title. Not sure what the point of the video is. Instead of telling us what you didn't do with it, why not actually review and test it? And if you know anything about Pentax cameras, you know there stock lenses do not come with ois. That's built into the body, and applies to all lenses, even old ones. You didn't even explain why it wasn't for you? Just kept repeating yourself. I "didn't connect" with this video...
Sorry to see the Ptax go. I shoot Fuji but have never been happy with the focus failure rate. For my street rally's, parades & such I went back to my cheap Nikon 5600 & 3500. About 99% good with the focus. Maybe I'm doing something wrong w the Fuji's.
I was going to say that I'm dropping back by, but apparently I never actually posted the comment I wrote a couple months ago. Anyway, in light of that, I'm just dropping by to say I bought a KP this month, slapped my SMC Pentax-F 50mm F1.4 on it, and I love the fuck out of it, in a way I never saw myself loving any digital camera. I can't put it down. Before it, I had a K-3, a K-5, a K20D and an *ist DL. None of those cameras did me the way this one does. Now if Fuji would un-fuck itself long enough to make a DSLR with the exact same external design cues as the XT3/XT4, they'd really have something; but I digress..."progress" for the sake of progress, right? *sigh*
The fact is that 90% of amateur photographers look at the appearance and not at the substance, including you. Have you tried this camera?Under the rain? Or on the beach or in the desert? Or below zero? Have you seen the files it produces at high isos? Have you measured it in the long side? Probally It's shorter than the xt 20 next to you... Let's say it without any problem: Who buys pentax doesn't do it for fashion, because he knows what he's up against: solid bodies, tropicalized, good file and a tank in your hands that makes it a little chic and very spartan.
@@cloro-8243 of course he hasnt. hes just another wanna be fckin 'creator' trying to get free stuff sent to him so he can sell it for profit. he literally said that is what he does on the video. real true dbag this guy
I had a Sony A6000 that I purchased in 2014, within months I was fighting with Sony service for a warranty repair. I also got tired of cleaning the sensor, and the only reason I went mirrorless at the time was to adapt my awesome Pentax and Takumar lenses. I recently picked up the Pentax K-1 mkII, what a beast, best weather sealing, built like a tank, the pixel shift resolution files are like files from a medium format and beat Sony, Nikon and Fuji for image output. I might pickup the KP as a everyday street, keep it in the car camera.
@@Scott_Graham you never mentioned that in the video, I would still take a Pentax over most other brands, Pentax knows how to squeeze the most out of the Sony sensors, just look at the 645z, four years later Fuji starts using the same sensor in their GFX and the Pentax still has better image output, which is really what matters in the end.
Someone don't want to use a DSLR then call it dead what's the point !? I used both Pentax and Fuji and frankly Fuji has better low night IQ but I gave it up coz it is very bad ergonomically and menu design, but I won't call it dead, it is just that I don't enjoy using it and I rarely shoot video.
I'm not understanding how the KP is "cumbersome." I have one. I also have a Sony A7. The Sony is wider and taller than the KP. Because of its mirror, the KP is about a centimeter thicker than the Sony, but only at the lens mount. The part of the body that touches your hands is the same. So in terms of volume they're very close.. Same is true of the Canon EOS R. So, he went into the video thinking that "the dslr is dead," and more or less made up stuff to confirm his opinion. This video did not convince me to subscribe.
Pentax need to bet at existing mirrorless mount. E mount or Fuji mount or something and provide a free adaptors to DSLR Pentax lenses. And then keep both DSLR and mirrorless, apsc and full frame. And bet at medium format too in mirrorless existing mount. Pentax need mirrorless AND dslr
The DSLR is NOT dead! Pentax are extremely underrated and they offer so much for so little. Excellent build quality and perfect control layout for any serious photographer. Mirrorless cameras are very good too but the lenses are getting stupidly big and expensive which makes the whole idea of mirrorless rather pointless!
yeah, right DSLR's are dead, just like film was dead A: I have a Pentax K10D 8 mp delivers amazing photos, they said it was dead. My K5 is the same and my K1 full frame is the best landscape camera out there. My Pentax large and medium format, and 35mm cameras all deliver great images. So why are they dead? I have Fuji XT3, canon 6D, and there's my vintage 4x5 cameras etc etc.....I love shooting with them all, there not dead my friend, but very much alive. Now I'm looking at buying a KP, why? simply because I can and as you just said they deliver, and isn't that what it's all about?. It's the enjoyment they give, the satisfaction of working with these beautiful cameras, that makes it all worth while: Couldn't watch it all..........
Hello, love your video content. It's always nice to be able to see someone's real world feedback about their use/impressions. In terms of the KP that you were using, I sent you a message via Facebook (didn't know how to send PM on here).
DSLRs are not dead. There are way more DSLRs than mirrorless users. Why not Nikon and Canon put more business to service the DSLR users? There are 75% more DSLR users than mirrorless.
æon I completely agree. That applies in the other direction as well. Canon and Nikon aren’t keeping up but brand loyalty is very strong and opinions are hard to change. And Ricoh Pentax has seemingly given up completely.

@@Scott_Graham As expected my point was missed; I was saying that all forms of photography are still very much a thing, so why should DSLR's have to be put to bed and yet everything else still has a following?
@@Scott_Graham pentax has been around for ages, and will continue to be
The new FF Pentax cameras are really good and weatherproofed as standard.
Just buyed nikon d750 over a7r2.
Autofocus is generally underrated and overrated most of the cameras don't perform the focus that they're going to say in af Focus.. yeah right 24 frames per second if it's a static subject. A lot of great photographs are taken with manual focus
DSLR dead??? Pentax K1 Mark II simples destroy's all other brands.
In what exactly?
xmeda In the lack of sales
What about the original first K1 or the K5 I'm trying to see if I can score a K1 for a thousand autofocus is not my priority I have a lot of manual came out lenses and m42
Off course it does. LOL.
Ya, i have the K3 and Kp, love em both
I love how people like this move the market a particular way and values follow.
I LOVE this cam... Why not use the Fuji and the Pentax...
Leica rangefinder + back monitor + EVF finder works well still today. Optical single reflex system + back monitor works as well.... It is just a matter of personal preferences. When the mirror is up, it is a mirrorless..... when a mirror is down it is DSLR.
I got the Kp cuz I wanted a small camera with a nice prism, I'll carry the weight around. The pentax pentaprism for me is what sold it!
I use pentax k20 and hope to use it for a long time
Me too!!! I love that camera!!!
I love my Pentax K5!
me too
I think you are dreaming 🤗……… 3 years later. DSLR Cameras are still going strong
mmm... let the majority of hobby photographers think this way - so DSLR prices can go down ... I'd like that :D
they already have
The market is so fucking fickled right now.
Exactly
Thanks for the shoutout Scott. :) Have fun with those wacky cameras.
Should have kept the KP for a different experience. People like the older cameras because they have a personality you sometime don't find with the latest and greatest.
That's why I have a Fuji S2 Pro!
@@Scott_Graham now that's a interesting camera. Kinda weird my GAS is for old but good gear 😅
Lol.
Once upon a time I heard film cameras are dead.
Today they're back and their prices increased.
You must say the Pentax KP doesn't correspond to your need which is different...
Thats the right arguement
I love my K3 II, as well as K-1 II ! ! ! all want is more and more lenses :) oh almost forgot, DSLR is not dead!
That’s just click bait ... not a single strong reason given why DSLR (let alone the KP) is dead besides the size, which is about the same🙄
this video was fcking absolutely terrible and so frustrating to try to sit through. the guy didnt even give one single reason and just rambled about what camera he should buy. i fcking hate this bullshlt wave of wanna be "creators" that try to sway the general market one way or the other. its fcking so stupid and aggravating
Thanks Peter! Ya this particular video definitely generated some conversation 😂

The X-pro1 is good the KP is far from big and is excellent. Your original premise for reviewing it was a sure sign that you wouldn’t keep it. Not completely sure what you were scared of. There is a new flagship APSC Pentax body in the pipeline you could give that a try when it lands.
Did you sell it ? Interested
I'm not going to read this whole comment let's put it this way Sony sold 24 million A7 even though the a 7 3 I think it was the most recent sales were I think under 3 million in the same year that's a big drop
not only is the DSLR not dead but the good old analog SLR isn't dead either. They may not be produced any more but many people are still using them.
I "didn't connect" with this video...
i'll make an offer of $150 Cdn for it.
Sorry to see the Ptax go. I shoot Fuji but have never been happy with the focus failure rate. For my street rally's, parades & such I went back to my cheap Nikon 5600 & 3500. About 99% good with the focus. Maybe I'm doing something wrong w the Fuji's.
Man all 4 of those slr's were solid cams back in the day. Good gift.
I'll toss out an idea.....wait for it....Nikon dF!
*sigh*
We won’t mention my Toyo 4x5 then......... Dead not buried yet... full manual!
Did you end up selling it?
I did.
I think instead of "idle" talking, you should take some photos to get your opinion on this camera

I had to send the first KP I had back because the mechanical shutter jammed.
I'm not understanding how the KP is "cumbersome."
I have one.
Trade in the Pentax and get a Sony A7 II for your old lenses, should be half the canon RP price or get a first Leica L Mount if you have more money
I have a buddy who’s selling an A7 soon. I’ll probably pick that up at the “friend discount” price 🤓

My K5 is the same and my K1 full frame is the best landscape camera out there. My Pentax large and medium format, and 35mm cameras all deliver great images. So why are they dead? DSLRs are not dead. There are way more DSLRs than mirrorless users. Why not Nikon and Canon put more business to service the DSLR users? There are 75% more DSLR users than mirrorless.
That’s true, but the numbers are changing quickly. Canon/Nikon are struggling to keep their market share because they don’t want to change 🙃
æon I completely agree. That applies in the other direction as well. Canon and Nikon aren’t keeping up but brand loyalty is very strong and opinions are hard to change. And Ricoh Pentax has seemingly given up completely.
What a waste of screen time.
