Absolutely love your enthusiasm for Pentax mate, which is more than merited. I shoot Canon, Sony and Pentax and the Pentax ergonomics are miles ahead. Nothing feels as good as my K70 in my hand (please, no obvious jokes here) and the innovation that Pentax has demonstrated over the years shows that they deserve huge respect and admiration. Thanks Matt for spreading the word.
I love Pentax and their ergonomic but the technology et innovation are way behind the others brands. Bad live view , bad Auto focus, not a good ips , the photo noise is awful, and very expensive. And I compare with other DSLR models from canon or Nikon.
My K70 just fell victim to the solenoid problem, as my K30 did a few years ago. I did love the way it feels, but obviously now..😥 I'm looking at previously owned K1's now. I spotted one on facebook marketplace, but the seller never responded. It was a phenomenal price, too. I thought maybe she was selling it because she was pissed at her husband (got a pair of rollerblades that way a few years back). Anyway, still looking. LOVE my Pentax gear
Totally agreed. Pentax make brilliant cameras. I have been using them for about 8 years. Won plenty of comps. Value for the dollar the best value on the market. Nice video.
Great video. Been using a K3 Mark 1 from the day it was released and don’t have a need to buy another camera. Wonderful system, weather sealing, shake reduction, great feature, amazing ergonomics. You can change settings so quickly with buttons and dials while holding on to the grip and occasionally using the other hand. Can’t beat it.
I’ve been shooting PENTAX since the 80s and was one of the early ones into their first *istD DSLR at the end of 2003. It’s still working but I’ve been using the K-1 since 2017. While I also use an Olympus OM-D for some lightweight needs, landscape has always been my thing and the K-1 excels at this
I picked up a secondhand *istD early in 2020,.. and for shooting for Social Media, without needing to resize or do any post process, it's bloody amazing. I'm using both classic film era lenses and current lenses, and it has zero issues using any of them.
Matt that is a great video. You have a distinguished style of communicating with your audience. It's an absolute joy to watch your content here on youtube and also on your other channels (especially your personal web). Keep going mate 👌🏻💪🏻.
Now that's a man with passion for Pentax! Loved the video. I'm a photo hobbyist. I started with a brand spanking new, award winning Pentax K10D. One of the things that sold me on it was the built in Shake Reduction (SR). The other thing was using all those old lenses. Takumars, SMC's, M and A lenses. Not being a professional I am limited to how much I can spend. But boy do I have a collection of old manual lenses! Currently I use a K-5II. It's an older generation but It's as solid as a rock. I do have a few auto focus lenses and they do a fine job for me. It's a nice system and I'm going to stay with it.
Just came across your channel, glad to see someone waving the Pentax flag. I started with the SV in 1966, and later the SL (was a bit sceptical about a delicate meter movement a la Spotmatic). Still using the MX I bought in 1978, greatest 35mm film SLR ever I reckon. Three features especially that do it: 0.97x viewfinder magnification, shutter cocked indicator, DOF preview. Film still does it for me, but if I ever do go digital the K-1 should be the ticket (I'm mainly into landscape too). Lets just hope the bean counters at Ricoh keep the Pentax brand alive, bit of a worry in these uncertain times.
Great history with Pentax. I am sure you know those film camera’s inside out like an old mustang convertable. Hahahaha. So good to here that you are still shooting film. I am sure that one day I will get back into it again on the side. Miss that mix with Fuji velevia. Mate, you’d love the k1 on the other side. So full of options to meet anyone’s needs and strengths in my opinion. Have a great day and thanks for sharing with us your history!!!!!
My first photography class back in 1977 in 7th grade the Pentax K-1000 was the cameras the teacher gave out us. I purchased one after shot with until the mid 1980s when my gear was stolen on trip to Florida. From then to 2022 I shot minolta 35mm. Just picked up my first DSLR a sony a77ll to utilize my minolta glass. Thanks to videos like this I'll probably pick up one of these modern Pentax. Thanks for sharing.
3 years later this conversation is still very relevant.... in terms of image quality we've been stuck for so long that upgrading cameras is almost always the wrong decision except maybe for wildlife/sports photographers where it actually matters
I passed through k-5, k-7, k-10 and k-3 II. Last month almost gave up the brand but just love the color representation and the controls of the Pentax cameras
Matt great video. I shoot Pentax myself since 1979. First camera was K1000 which I sold to buy an MX. From there K20D to a K3 to a K1MkII and a K3MkIII which I use for real estate and AirBnb photography and for fun the K3MkIII Monochrome. Lots of different lenses building my collection. I am not interested in mirrorless which I tried and I don't like. My Pentax cameras are rugged and I love them. My biggest problem is deciding which one I want to use. I see your stuff on FB. Keep up the good work.
Really great video. I've been with Pentax for 20+ years and just got a KP and a K1, after owning a K-5iiS and a K-3 for the past 8 years. I've still to really put the K1 through its paces and I'm a bit daunted by the need to find more lenses to use with it, but very excited about what it will bring. In the meantime, the KP is a stellar APS-C camera and I have a full complement of lenses to use with that. Just sold my K-5iiS (sad day), that camera has been my friend for 8 years and has even won me a few prizes!
You sound like a true Pentaxian!!! Great to know that you have this relationship with the brand too. I have never used the KP but have had great feedback about it. I think the new k3 will be a Stella too!!!!
Awesome! Ive been a Nikon user for years, switched to Pentax 4 years ago, K3, just purchased a K1...impressive video and well received on my end...Bravo!
Pentax should have you as their ambassador you have a lot of zeal on this brand and passion as well. I had one and only experience holding a Pentax camera when a couple asked me to take their pictures while I was visiting Vancouver BC, and the feeling remained with me of how smooth it did operate compared to the Canon camera I had the 5D2.
Hahahahha. Well, yeh...I probably should be hey. So, you used the Pentax camera and never purchased one? May I ask what system are you currently using now and if you are happy with it?
@@MattBishopPhotography Well after using my Canon 5D2 I decided to go with the Nikon system and slowly I managed to sell everything Canon. I am happy with the Nikon system, I like the dynamic range and the built of the cameras, I just recently purchased the D850 and I still have my D810 which I used for almost 5 years now. I will keep the D810 regardless as a backup and even use it since it has a flash and I can trigger my other flash with it. In mirror-less format I purchased a year ago the Fujifilm XT3 for a walk around and I even shot landscapes with it. These two systems for casual shooting using the Fuji and more serious shooting with the two Nikon DSLR I am quite fulfilled. I am in the USA in Oregon and there are many places to visit and put the equipment to good use. I do mostly stock photography and you can type in google (Rigucci Photography) to see all the array of shooting that I do. Well that is what is best for stock, my category could be classified as a travel photography. Take care and all the best.
@@Luigi13 oh you live in oregon. Plenty of locations there to shoot and plenty of landscape photograohers there too. I have many photographer friends who live in that area. Yes well, the D810 and D850 are great cameras that also share the sony sensors as pentax do, with certainly better AF speed and accuracy than the K1. Prior to the K1 release I was tempted to shift to Nikon but the extra water sealing, ruggedness etc and new DFA lenses tempted me to stay. I must admit though that from my experience the Fuji RAW files just dont do it for me. I will check out your website for sure, and thanks for your feedback. Have a great day
thats brilliant mate. What a history!!! and the fact that you still shoot with them too says something about this brand doesnt it. Oh yes, and the photographers behind them too
@@MattBishopPhotography absolutely! A camera is a tool, not a magic stick. You need to understand how to use the tool properly to get the results you desire. Tools have shortcomings, but if your familiar with them then you know how to minimize those issues and get the desired outcome
Again a great and emotional video matt! And a similar development like mine: from an SP500 in the 70s to the K1 today - and now even a used 645z! Also here: after 6 years still like new and the RAWs are a dream! Thank you for your thoughts about the Pentax system and sharing your way to shoot with it! Go on!
Great video Matt. Nice to hear an aussie accent espousing Pentax. I just spent a week on a photo tour with 7 others. None of whom had even seen a Pentax in the wild. I got all sorts of questions from the 'old hands'. "Why do use that?" "Can't you afford a Canon?" "Doe's it shoot raw?" "I hear there are not many lenses." I even got a swipe about the lenses not being "L series" PFFFT. Typical uninformed stuff. Then I spent a while smiling inwardly as the mirrorless folk struggled in the rain with their flimsy gear. Getting blown over. (the top of the line canon got blown over and the body seal came apart slightly.) Concerned about getting ithe gear wet. Contriving weather covers out of plastic bags. Putting them away so as not to get wet. I just kept clicking away with the 15-30, 24-70 and modified 60-250. Not a worry in the world, except staying upright in a howling gale.. :) I really should have taken the grip off, mounted the FA 43 or 77 and showed them 'stealth mode in the pub at dinner. Try that with a Sigma beer can or an L series. I use the Da 40 as a body cap.... :) Then I got back home and pulled up the raw files. Majestic! The most plasticine, malleable files available. Deep rich colours. Pin sharp images. The duds were my fault, not the gear. Why do I shoot Pentax? Cause its the best damned landscape 36mm camera available. I don't shoot sports, so don't care. I have never switched any of my DSLR's to Video. Don't care to. I shoot people and landscapes. I have the best available tools.
Nice, Matt. Been an exclusive Pentax pro shooter since the 80s. Love the build quality, features, and glass. (I do wish HSS and tethering were easier, but it will come.) Never going to switch. And I actually like the odd looks and weird questions we Pentaxians get. It's like we put our shoes on before our pants, or something. What a quirky bunch we are!
I think there will be some new ground breaking features coming out with the apsc and we can expect that same technology in the new FF too. With regard to tethering, well...you can’t please everyone can you. We’ll Just have to wait and see. Yes we do get weird questions don’t we, but hey, who cares...it’s all at our advantage in the end!
@@MattBishopPhotography Yup. I shoot APS-C (product photography, mostly), and will pick up the new body as soon as it’s available. HSS, better autofocus, updated Bluetooth, all sound great to me! Love to get a K-1 for landscape, but I just have so much APS-C glass!
@@speterlewis Hi Peter. For HSS, Godox is releasing some nice Pentax compatible products. I miss tethering capabilities on my K-3II too, specially for studio work. Hope the new APS-C camera brings all of that and more :)
I made a conversion from a Canon 70D over to a Pentax K1 Mk II and I have not regretted it at all. I didn't have the best glass for my Canon, however I have seen my photography improve drastically with my conversion. I have a few older lenses, but I absolutely love them. They are so sharp and my pictures have changed drastically. I used to have the hardest time with my 70D. I would go to edit pictures and see them being soft and it drove me crazy. Have not had the same issue with my K1 mk II that wasn't my own fault. I actually like the weight, it helps me to anchor my shots, and my heaviest lens right now is a FA* 80-200 f/2.8 and I love it. Maybe one day I'll be able to get the D FA 600mm. Great video. I completely agree with all points you brought up with it. (Just so you are aware, supposedly Pentax has announced that they won't be making any mirrorless cameras. We will see if that remains true or not. It is the current fad. I will not be joining the mirrorless group.)
I am fully aware that at this stage that Pentax aren’t going mirrorless and full support their strategy. There are so many of us that are using generations of mirrorless mount lenses that it wouldn’t make sense to their current market place . The vision of dslr still has its place and I see that
Good video Matt. I came back to Pentax a few years ago. Just watched this video and picked up several tips from you in just 20 minutes, thanks. I have a K3 MK2 and I've been waiting, like a lot of people, to see what this MK 3 version is going to offer. You've sold me the K1 at the moment. We will see at the end of Feb. Like to see some more videos from you, cheers.
I love your enthusiasm for Pentax. I started with a K1000, followed by an ME Super. I also dived into the digital world with the K10, followed by the K20, the K3, K3ii and now about to buy the K3iii. I do a lot of sports and wildlife photography so the DX sensor gives me the reach I need. Good on ya, keep up the good work!
Hahahha. Thanks mate. A lot of people find the enthusiasm a place to put the brand down but we all know why we stick with the brand. Hope your enjoying the new k3!!!!
Fantastic video Matt, Pentax checks all the boxes for landscape, astro, still life and portrait, my only regret was waiting so long to finally get my K-1ii. And like you I still have my first SLR the K1000 and my ME along with all my original lens from the film days.
I checked on your channel and you are still using Pentax in 2024.. nice one.. When I decide my system, I actually want to go with Pentax, as I admire the technology, and its approach to digital cameras... But in my country, pentax isn't widely available (the new and updated lineup, not the old film and manual lens). And with limited availability, comes the price tag..
Great stuff..totally get your points. Nice to see you flying the flag. Everything is in a rush to keep up. Perhaps in this new world we all need to take a step back. Pentax makes products that last and at a good pace. I am happy with the system.
Glad I stumbled on your channel! I thought I was the only one still shooting Pentax! LOL Got my first Pentax on a trip to St. Louis, my little ME Super SE, and never looked back. Now you've got me thinking I should have a K-1 in my life. Hmmm Great work and thanks for making this video. New sub for sure.
Happy that you did trip over my little channel and thanks for the sub. Great old camera the ME. If you haven’t got the k1 your certainly missing out!!!!
I used/borrowed my friend's Pentax K1000 during my college time in end 80s/early 90s (we bought negative rolls we cut & insert in each barrel in dark room ourselves) & then started using digital cam with fuji pocket digital cam until Pentax K3 came out in 2013 which I still keep until now & Pentax KP a few years later & I m quite satisfied using both accompanied by DA* 50-135mm F2.8 + DA 50mm F1.8 (for fashion & headshot) + HD DA 55-300mm ED WR (for outdoor fun) + DA 18-135mm DC WR + Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 + Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 + Tamron F2.8 28-75mm F2.8 📷 Pentax ✌️
Great video, I’ve been shooting my K3 for over 6 years. I’m still very pleased with my pictures and agree with you on your thoughts on upgrading equipment. Some day I would like to try a K1.
Thanks mate appreciate the kind words. Just some thoughts I thought I needed to get out there. You know, if you’ve been shooting with the k3 for six years and are happy with it it’s because the camera was very advanced at the time and as with all new Pentax releases as they are slowly released to the market, are always ahead of their time. Great camera!!!! Hope it still serves you well for years to come. Have a great day mate
I'm shooting Pentax since 1977. The D FA 15 - 30 mm f/2.8 you mentioned I use especially for archtitecture - and I love it! The DA 10 - 17 mm f/3.5 - 4.5 fits to fullframe as well.
You should make the Video anyway, it's nice to see that there are still Pentax - Lovers like me out there, but a littlebit more good reviews available would be beneficial for the Brand-awareness I guess. It's shocking to me that there are so mouch People out there who don't even know that Pentax exists, and are not willing to inform themselves before buying in a Camera System, and by that I don't mean just go to the next best Camera Store who just sells Nikon and Canon anyway.
Thanks a lot. Appreciate your feedback and your very welcome. Next week I will be putting out a new video on field. New video gear and audio. I have put a lot into this one so hope you can get to see it and appreciate your future feedback
Just got my first pentax sf10 for free with nice package deal. Included tripox notes and manuals. Has 2 lenses as well. Cant wait to get some photos done.
Well done! I bought my first Pentax *istDL2 in 2006 and about a year later the K10D, which was good enough for me for about 10 years. Then I got me the K3-II which blew me away. Not only the image quality, but also the fact, that I could transition from the K10D basically without even looking at the manual. Everything, every button, every menu item was just where I expected it. Either from where it had been with the K10D or if it was a newer feature it was simply where it belongs. Unlike Sony, where the menu structure seems like a secret spellbook from Hogwarts. (though I hear that they optimized that drastically in the newest models). I'm just a bit frightened, hearing that Pentax put so much design effort in the grip for placement of the middle finger. The K3/K3-II feels perfect in my hand, so actually I don't want any finger placement changed...
Thanks Matt. I am a pentax fan but also use other cameras.Started with pentax spotmatic in about 1973. I have videos on my channel about some of my favourite pentax cameras.I was listening and viewing and then realised you were an Aussie.More power to you. cheers Geoff Thompson,Adelaide.
G’day mate. Yes I am an Aussie. Probably loosing my accent after almost 20 years here in Italy. Great, will Check your your channel indeed. Have a great day mate and stay safe!
I still have two me supers (from 1980, I believe) and shot thousands of landscape and oil rig shots in western Oklahoma. Really no use for the bodies anymore, however, I understand my Pentax 35-70 zoom w/macro will work on the newer digital cameras! Don’t need anything real fancy, but which used model would that lens work with? Also have a Vivitar (think it’s a 1980 model) that’s mint condition, will that convert also? Thanks so much if you can get back with any ideas!
Hi Matt, I am also a huge fan of Pentax Cameras. I have been using them since the K100D Super. I currently use the Pentax K-3 mark i, not the ii. I have been wanting to jump into the full frame K-1 for a few years now but the one thing holding me up is the lenses. All five of my lenses are for the the APS-C Camera Body. Would I be able to use these on a Full Frame camera successfully with maybe an adapter or would I just be better off waiting for the new K-3 mark iii to come out next February and skip right on by the K-1 Full Frame? This is a dilemma I have been facing for about 2 years now and if buying all new lenses with a Full Frame is the way better way to do it, I may just bite the bullet and buy a few new lenses as well. I also love doing Landscape Photography and consider myself a hobbyist photographer, not a professional.
You can use your apsc lenses directly on the k1 in crop mode. Easy stuff. There are some of the apsc lenses that you shooters in full frame made that are vignette free too. What lenses do you use? The k1 is a great consideration for you to take for sure and you wouldn’t be disappointed and I also believe that the new apsc is a great investment if you don’t mind sacrificing the astrotracer
I really like the K-5. I use a K-3 for wildlife with a sigma 500mm F/4.5. The K-5 is great in low light and still like that camera. If I lived in a place that was great for landscapes, I would buy a K-1.
I appreciate this video. All the features I am seeing are on other cameras. Custom menus. IBIS. Articulating screens. Panasonic cameras so pixel shift. I’m not knocking the camera but Pentax was surely ahead in many ways.
Sounded like you've cought some grief over using my beloved Pentax. I haven't ever cought greif but I am not one to flown the flock so since I was a kid (circa ~1983) I've used Pentax. Hopefully one day l cna swig the lenses you've got. I use a K-3 II and a bunch of second hand older and vintage glass (newest is a Sigma DC 17-70 that I love). Rigjt on, keep up the good work and clickity CLACK!
@@MattBishopPhotography {edit} "cought or getting grief" means being chastised or other photographers giving you a hard time for sticking with Pentax.{/edit} Soundsed like you were being defensive or apologetic for being a Pentax shooter. I'm that way with Ford. It's just my choice, and here in Utah, it's a Chevy dominated world, so I've hot to defend my vehicle of choice.
I had to move to Nikon, the Pentax Spotmatic finder caused headaches and eyestrain*! I actually had always needed glasses! I kept my kit! It was old and of course, still working! Leica M was added, after my failure, in using Large Format, to Medium format. The LF had too many area of disaster! The Leica was great, but even 56 years later, not sure It was worth it! So Nikon with SLR was my pro rig. Lenses were easily available and affordable! Not as affordable as Takumars as Digital, began to appear! So throughout my life, Pentax K-1000, Spotmatics and K-mount were given haven. Folks gave or `sold for pennies' as I still shot film! Now not a pro, less problem with eyes, glasses, then cataract op. agin only for some reading. * some Pentax finders more for long sighted! I was short sighted till 45! Bravo!
I went through a similar direction but started with a Spotmatic F. The first K mount was a P30T and then a buch of film cameras, even a 67. I skipped the *istD too and got a K10D. Then K7, K5iis, K3 and K1. I need to learn about the contrast detection, I just manually focus (I own so many manual lenses). I am pining for the 15-30 and it will likely be my next purchase (I have the 20-35 f4 A and 20mm f2.8 A ) Thanks for the tips.
The 15-30 is a brillant lens. You won’t regret the purchase. My favorite lens by far. Contrast detection is a powerful too and in many situations and a lot of the time more Reliable than my aging eyesight!!! Hahahahah
Hi, Matt! Can you please advice on what lenses to get for my K-3? I am super confused. I have thet 18-55 kit lense that comes with it. I want something like 35-105 although it will be more on the crop sensor. I also want as little aperture as possible without the price going sky high. I am looking to shoot portraits mostly waist up and faceshots and other stuff as well.. But I hae read all reviews about the Pentax lenses and I am honestly confused. Any thoughts?
Hi there. This all depends on your budget. The 55-300 plm has really good feedback and so does the new 16-50. Of portraits is more your field of work I suggest maybe going prime. The Ltd lenses are brilliant. May I guest the 43mm. If budget is an issue and your want prime for portraits the 35mm F2 is a great little performer too
Nicely done - I know you posted this in October, but one question - the wide angle 15-30mm f2.8 - you mentioned using a polarizer with the beautiful waterfall shot - curious how that was done. You are right about the weather sealing, I do a lot of sports photography in Texas, and have been caught in drenching thunderstorms and never had any problems with my Pentax gear. Phenomenal weather sealing. Rain, snow, ice, no problem.
Yes they are a rugged camera, built for rugged conditions! There are a few companies that make Filters holders for these lenses specifically. Kase, nisi, haida and wanderpana. I use the kase which seems to be more neutral and resistant too
Good video, I enjoyed it. You certainly convinced me to stick with Pentax. I currently shoot 2 K10Ds and am very happy with them. But it is old tech now, and the K1 looks to be the gear to have combined with the newer lenses.
The K1 is by no means obsolete. As a landscape body it still performs better than any other body IMO. I will be interested to see what the next FF has in stall
Still many good reason. Many overlooked. The only 2 negative aspects of the Pentax system is weight and responsive focus. However the k3 iii is a big step forward
I completely agree. I shot with a k30, then a k3, and now I have had a K1 for about three years. For landscape/astro the K1 is king. Still has the best dynamic range out! Astrotracer is amazing and I use it all the time.
Thanks Jake. Yeh! The DR is just brilliant.! I’ve really gotta give this.l have to give this night photography more of a go for the astrotracer. I think masking in a foreground Into your shot with Astro off then one on with the stars is a killer workflow
That first wide angle lens you loved so much, did I miss something? I played it over and over, but you didn't say what it was, unless I missed it. Anyway life happens lol, but I would like to know what it was: All the best. I'm guessing its a Pentax 15 - 30 mm 2. 8 WR Lens
Nice thing about the Pentax range is that I still use my standard 50mm lens which I got with the K1000 on the istD, as well as doing macro work with the same 50 lens in conjunction with the mount K adaptor ring!
I have a bunch of old pentax lenses from my time in film photography and some from my father before he passed. All my Pentax film bodies are dead... What is the best value Pentax dslr to pick up so that I can make use of the old lenses? Or should I buy an old MX just to have for posterity sake? The rest of my dslr gear is all nikon so I won't be investing in any NEW Pentax lenses. So purely using old Pentax glass... which body should I pick up? I'd be doing casual portrait photography or keeping it around as a backup.
Heyyy. Nice video, K5 user over here, a severellly beaten one by the way. Hopefully i`ll get a k1 some day. One thing that came up to my attenton when hearing these reviews, mostly about the pixel shift is that there is some complain about the movement issue with these one. I wanted to ask you, since you clearly love your gear and not just show it, Did you ever try it for making some harris shutter photographs? Is there a way to modify the time between shots? Thanks! Good luck
Still using a K5. Great camera. And Pentax digital lenses are really good quality. Then there's the huge choice of all the classic old manual lenses. And great colour science.
I'm not a brands guy, but my first and only camera as of right now is the k-x (2009) and it does the job pretty well, needs a bit of a clean, but yeah works pretty good.
Hello Matt, Happy to ear some good things about Pentax in 2020. I'm used to ear Pentax bashing. Do you think the K1 is just a beast for landscape ? I think for portrait it's good to. And if my childs are not running it's going well to
Hi there. Yes for me at landscape it is the best of the best. I haven’t had much experience in Portrait but I am sure it does a great job too and from other Pentax guys they rave about it in this field too
Looking forward to more videos Matt, especially in regards, techniques, work-face tips and suggestions. Obviously your chosen area is landscape but bird and wildlife photography would also be interesting from a Pentax perspective. Thank you.
Thanks a lot mate. Yes, it’s all a bit biased to landscape. That’s what I am good it. Will look into other areas for a wider audience for posts in the future. Cheers and have a great day!
Not an Pentax user. But definitely appreciate your passion and thought process on staying true on what works for you. I am Sony A Mount shooter. Great video.
Appreciate the kind words a d feedback. I am just an honest guy, an artist and his tools putting my thoughts out there. Happy to have reached out to you
I am a Landscape Photographer. Pentax K1 has 36.4MP censor made by Sony, and with NO Aliasing Filter, therefore the censor should is likely 20% clearer than other brand censors with it. I have been shooting with it since the July 2016. Its been a joy to use, while Pentax lens are not the sharpest of all brands, they present extreme sharpness when stopped down to f5.6 to f14 (24-70mm), f4 to f16 (70-210mm) and f4 to f17 (15-30mm) lens. (Note: I had to calibrate my camera to each lens, and surprisingly I had to adjust to -12 to get the best results for the 24-70mm lens, AND I suggest that everyone do same in order to get really sharp images.) I am extremely happy with this camera, and have invested on lens, ND Filters etc therefore I wont give up on this piece of camera. It has given me lots of joy, and my work can be printed up to 45x30 inches without noise. My first PENTAX was K-1000 FOLLOWED BY ME-Super. I tried the Astro-trace feature but with no success, may be I did not calibrate the GPS etc.????
Yes the gps has to be calibrated correctly. I haven’t had much use with Astro as it is not my genre but no many that are having great results with the system
Hi Matt, I started off into photography with an old camera of my dad's (an Argus) at the age of 12. The camera looked like an brick with a lens stuck to it! After dabbling around with it for a couple of years I finally bought my first camera in the early eighties second hand, which was a Pentax K1000 (which is still working perfectly to the day, may I add)! Started working at an educational institution where Minolta was pretty much the standard; I had the X300 and an XD5. I still did not trust them as much as the Pentax though, as I could pick up the Pentax at any time, do some settings on it and knew for certain that the picture would be perfect. Many years later, working in the commercial photography industry (I then did photographic editing and manipulation, using PhotoShop), I bought a then "outdated" istD for a song! The camera was broken and we had it fixed. I merely changed to digital then as film photography became too expensive at the time. Almost 20 years later I'm still using the istD and although I have given some thought to getting a "better name" brand (for the lack of a better word), I never really felt the urgency to do so as I am still very much satisfied with the istD and don't consider changing yet! I think I am a Pentax user for life, so Good on ya!
I've been shooting with Pentax since 1985, started off with a - you might have guessed it - K1000. Over the years the flock got considerably bigger. I still have (and use) my K1000 but I have added 2 MEs (1 with a winder), an MX, LX, KM, KX and K2. Ah, and a heap of 17 lenses, almost all primes. Even though I also use my K-5 DSLR from time to time, but I mainly shoot film.
Another K-1 landscape photographer here. I wondered when you were going to mention weather-sealing. I don't care about mirrors, video, AF speed, or weight, but I want quality. I used to walk around with a 6x7 and I'm not even a big guy. It is sad to see most RUclipsrs reviewing a camera immediately start to talk about its video. It's like stills photography does not exist any more.
Hey Matt, thanks for the video, it wasn't half bad! that means pretty good, from where I originate in England anyhow. Nice shots too, maybe one day I will be able to get some half decent ones. nice to see a video not coating off a Pentax for a change. I used to shoot Pentax when I was a teenager, but then that was the film days..... I really liked the camera..... but unfortunately didn't have the money to buy or process lots of film, so I kinda left off for a while. Now older, a few years back I bought a Nikon D5300. It does not do too bad, but one day I would like to get a Pentax system. anyhow, thx again, and hope to see more videos..... remember the more one does something, the more one gets better at it. bye for now.
Hahahah. I assume you a referring to the video quality not my images? Well, actually since this video has been released I have made a huge investment in new audio and video gear. I can actually see myself on RUclips so last well shot an on field type blog. Will release in a few days so hope that the viewing quality is much better. I assume if you watched the video it’s because there is a part of you that wants to come back to Pentax, right? Anyway, thanks for the time to give me some feedback. Much appreciated and here from you soon!!!! Cheers mate
Enjoyed the video and I agree with ya! I sold my original K1 and gave the Sony A7III a try. Needless to say I've got myself a K1 again, haha. Considering selling the A7iii when the new aps-c comes out, but will probably hang onto it for video for the moment. As to your weather sealing point, yeah...I'm afraid to take the Sony out in the rain and usually just bring the K1 and a gorpro in those conditions. Haha
Especially as a landscape photographer... bro I don't want to look at a f***in' screen! I want to look through that clear crystal right through my lens and into the real world. That's what I'm there for anyways, to capture the magnificence of mother nature. Since I was a kid, the best thing about "expensive cameras" (what I called SLRs and DSLRs lol) to me was looking through those beautiful viewfinders. I'll be damned if I ever go to an electronic viewfinder.
I shifted from Pentax at the start of 2020, moved to Nikon, bought their Mark1 Z7 Mirrorless, 45 mp sensor but it was not quite as quick in the NZ bush but I could see its advantages in several other areas. For instance shooting without camera noise such as serious concerts, weddings and so on. Putting the camera into electronic shutter and being able to use the eye viewfinder with excellent autofocus. Such an improvement over a DSLR where you need to go to live view and AF is poor, and the Pentax K1 is one of the worst! The lighter body weight and smaller size makes carrying it as a walkabout camera a dream Still dissatisfied with AF in the forest, I bought Nikon's D850. What a camera, everything about it killed my K1: One of the best in low light, and a 45mp sensor (same as the Z7) eats the Pentax K1 with its 36mp sensor. The D850 is reckoned by most DSLR experts as the best all-round DSLR of all times. Compare its 7 frames per sec with your 4.4 fps the K1 gives. And if you want 9fps, then buy the large battery in its optional grip. I'm afraid that Pentax simply has not got the market share now to generate enough income to do the research and development that is needed for producing new models and new lenses. I saw that coming and would like to have moved to Nikon years ago, but did not have enough money to enable a change to another system. So don't shut your eyes to the possibilities that other makes offer. In the meantime it is great that you enjoy your photography and that you can produce images like the one you showed here.
This video upload is from quite a few years ago now. Although I still enjoy using my k1, I too have contemplated the switch to Nikon. Now in 2024 that we are presented the new Nikon Z8 for example, it’s a hard choice to make for someone like me to stick with Pentax. However, put the performance issues to the side and ask yourself…”what is the final product. Does a Nikon raw file gives you IQ that Pentax does”?
I owned a K5 and afterwards a K5iis which I both sold. Now I regret having sold the K5iis. Still kept the lenses. I switched to a Samsung NX1 at the time. Not long afterwards they discontinued creating digital cameras. I still own a Pentax Q1. Lovely little camera. One day when the NX1 doesn’t work anymore I will definitely switch back to Pentax!
For me as a landscape photographer that does like to shoot wide in confined spaces especially I would find it hard to use a 24mm. Even if the it were a f1.8 or similar it would have little use for me on most occasions. However in the Astro field it would be considered a great addition.
@@MattBishopPhotography all right, I just been shooting with 16mm on crop and recently got K-1 and stuck with 50mm on it. I thought jumping from 50mm to 24 would be essential upgrade for landscape work :)
Switched to Sony for work a long time ago but in my private life my K-5 is still so relevant and so much more fun. The white K-x was my first DSLR back in 2009 and stated my whole professional journey so the feelings for PENTAX are very strong :)
Great video. I am a long time Pentax user (since the early 80s) and although I have used other brands I believe that Pentax produces the best image quality. They just need to bring the price of their quality glass within the reach of the average serious amateur and sales will rocket.
I purchased my Pentax K1 Mark 2 recently I'm still learning but wow what a camera makes me look like a pro . Still waiting for the 150 - 450 lens . Just have 100 macro, 24-70 lenses. So far Regards Bevan 😄🤠🇦🇺
What’s Shame about Olympus. The were a great camera. Fortunately for Pentax, Ricoh has other visions for the future, so luckily enough they will be around for a long time to come
I got my first dSLR in 2011 and it was a first rung on the ladder. Given the options at my price point Pentax won my custom with their Kr. As often happens, those of us on a tight budget remain with our first manufacturer when you've invested in lenses etc. It's quite bizarre that Pentax are rarely even considered despite the fact that I and many others have always been happy customers of theirs. People scoffed at Pentax for not having a full frame model for years despite having the Medium Format then and before many others. Despite the fact that you can still use awesome lenses from the 70's. I'd love to get my hands on a K1 but I can still do so much with my K10, K-5 and K70. Long Live Pentax.
Some of the best images I have ever captured were taken with the k10 and K5 and I can tell you that the K5 is still a very powerful tool on the market. To be honest people are unaware and dont talk about pentax for 2 main reasons. 1. they dont release a body every 6 months willy nilly like other brands do (why should they when they are always ahead of the others). 2. their marketing is certainly more descrete than other brands so awareness is low.
excelent video my friend, im switch from nikon to Pentax a few monts ago, and im very happy now, i have a cuestion do you recommend the 70-200 f2.8 ? or have a review of that glass? well keep shooting and making beautiful photos best wishes and hugs from México!!
Thanks a lot for your kind words. Much appreciated. I have only officially done a review on the 70-210 which you can see on my channel. The 70-200 is a brilliant lens however. I have only had superb experience with it.
Great to see like minded people all over the world. I also have to explain a lot of times why I shoot Pentax and when I start explaining them the whole feature set of the K1 and what you can do with it their mouths always get more open over every feature. I did also buy the new 50mm 1.4 and the sharpness of this prime hurts sometimes in the eyes and when dpreview finally tested this beast over 1 year after its release they came to the conclusion it is the sharpest 50mm they have ever had at half the price of a Zeiss otus with weather sealing and AF. Portraits just look beautiful with it. But guess what I found out? It is a beast in astrotracing as well with it's superior sharpness across the board and the unbelievable microcontrast. I am planning on getting the 85mm as well because the primes were definately constructed for future higher resolution sensors in mind because of their long development processes. But ine thing I would like to recommend to you espacially after I have seen the raw file in your video. Give Capture one Pro a try out. I switched from LR and never looked back. All the masking (espacially luminosity masks) all in one tool and they have absoutely superb and long training tutorials in their official youtube channel. And they give the customer the choice of a renting model or simply buying the software. And it also works much faster. This "lag" when you tried to zoom in your Raw was gone after I switched over to Capture One. But that's another point I have to explain to people... :D "Wait, I understand you shoot Pentax, but why the hell don't you use LR? "
Thanks a lot mate for the feedback. Yes, the primes that are coming out are brilliant pieces of glass for sure. As always. I believe that the 85mm portrait and Astro is just great!!!!! Well, to as we’d your q with regards to LR. I only use it for catalogue and imports. All my post production work is done i photoshop, where I have a very antique works flow of masking each individual luminosity as a desperate raw level. It’s something that i am used to and more than happy with the results. I am aware of the other programs out there but for me, as long as I can maintain my 3 dimentionality as true to life as possibile i am a happy man
Afternoon - I also shoot astrolandscapes with the K1. The skies are perfect with astrotracing (ISO 800, f2.8 @70 seconds), but my landscape foreground have the dreaded white dot noise (I shoot in very dark locations - Bortal 1 or 2), LENR is the only real way I've found to eliminate the problem. But the foregrounds at ISO 400, f4 @4 to 6 minute exposures, I hate doubling up the exposure time. I did try C1's trial for a couple of months (turns out back to back releases) - and upon image loading, C1's raw engine removed the dots automagically - absolutely amazing, but I can not get C1 to process the rest of the image as I can using LR. I do feel stuck (and I went through all of their video tutorials). Also, I still need PS to composite the sky and landscape elements together. After 4, almost 5 years now - my only slight complaint are the white dots (the same as the D800/D810 (same sensor)). Nikon found a way around the dots, but Pentax's image quality is still better. Looks like Nikon compromised and Pentax did not.
@@ioio5993 with regard to that I’d suggest too a double exposure. They are very complex scenes to shoot that push these camera senses beyond their limits. With regard to this type of photography I would suggest chatting with Aaron Martinez. This guy knows the k1 very well for astrotracer
@@ioio5993 Astrotracing is only a small hobby of mine so I avoid Photoshop at all. But yeah for the kind of pictures you want to merge together you'll probably need it. For the rest of my work C1 suits me better compared to LR. It works faster, way more color functionalty and also a better raw converter for Pentax files which some people on YT showed side by side with the same raw in both programms. The only area where I give LR still an advantage is their library/catalogue. For some people that's crucial - for me it's not.
Hi there Lisa. This is certainly not my field of expertise. Guys like Aaron Martinez do great work in this area. Would love to experiment a bit myself. So yes, maybe an option in the near future. Thanks for your much appreciated feedback and have a great day!
Well done and well said. People tend to forget the basics as you say. I do shoot motorsports with (now for a couple years) a K3 and a K3-II and, to be honest, i just seen my machines and lenses over saturated of work and not being able to follow action as I wanted shooting Formula 1 in very fast Circuits. But for the rest of series they work great. Yes, the AF could be better and the buffer faster. Indeed. I wish! But those cameras are rugged, they can do WRC at - 5 C no problem. I do use most likely Sigma lenses that do combine great with those bodies and some Pentax lenses (DA* 50-135mm, F 50mm f1.7, DA 50mm f1.8, M 135mm f3.5,etc....). Those are machines that work. Are very well built. Are great in hand for its size and disposition of buttons, its easy to use them and they can produce stunning images.
@@MattBishopPhotography that is my wish and hope. Yet my "old" cameras keep going strong and doing the job. Yet i am a 2nd hand buyer so it still will take some extra time to get the newer camera. As you also point out, you need to know what camera+lens is a good combo for your photography and so I do believe I've found mines after much testing and lots of reading and doing research. Best,
Hi Matt! Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years with your family! Saw this video again and you do have a great setup! Gonna do more with my K-5 soon now that I bought a 40mm limited pancake lens for it! My first autofocus lens. It’s sweet! Will post a few later this month on IG. You inspired me again! 😉. I see you have Patagonia workshop videos on your channel. Are you guys there now? Good luck and good shooting! 👍. Anthony.
I've always wanted a camera with astrotracer and I was looking to move to the Pentax k-3 ii, but ended up going mirrorless and that brought up a question. Why should someone stick to DSLR?
Good question. For me slr photography is about being in contact with the moment on another level. If that extra little bit of camera body size for you isn’t an issue the K1 is the master in its class especially Astro!!!! And the k3ii also brillant for an apsc packed with similar features
Started in the navy with a Pentax point and shoot, then moved over time to a k-1000, then a z-1, and then a k20d, and now a k3. Have loved them all. The performance has been great, still learning all the features of the k3, it’s so customizable. If there was one thing I have been left wishing for, it would be more support in things like high speed sync larger flash units and triggers, but I am seeing things come up now slowly over time. So yes, I am a diehard Pentaxian, they are underrated but like you say, the quality of the cameras and the lenses have always held their own against some of the big boys, so I will be sticking with them as long as possible..........
Excellent video advocating for Pentax in the digital age. Their lenses & bodies pack a lot of perks into them. I've have been frothing over a K-1 the last month after picking up an old AF Screw pentax system from 97'. For a while I've been so bored of Canon and have been thinking to switch to Sony, my passion is mainly in street / landscape / portraiture. Only issue is that I love a viewfinder, Mirrorless don't appeal to me beyond what they pack into those Sony bodies and their lens compatability. I may hold off until the K1iii is unleashed, as it's logically expected to contain USB3.0 at the least (for pro tethering), and also 4k video at 30 (at the least). I love photograhy as a hobby but I also need to conscider it as my primary skilled profession, so since going pro requires a certain standard of features that could be found in a Canon 5Div or sony A7 whatever... My fingers are crossed for an amazing Kiii that'll really shake up the industry, or at least revive and diversify the pro-DSLR market. In the meantime I will enjoy shooting my FA* 28-70 2.8 on my old MZ-5.
And yes, I subscribed, I'm an Aussie and am impressed you've settled into Rome and are thriving as a landscape photographer. I hope you and your family are keeping safe!
A new k1 III with some integrated new features that we have in the current K3 would be a stunner. For me, I will be happy to wait for a few years yet, still so happy with the k1 Mark one and two for now and would prefer to be patient enough to give Ricoh the time needed to bring that beast out
I started with Pentax in the early 70s. My first was a Spotmatic then a K1000, IstDS, K-7 and now a K-1 mark l. I still have screw mount lenses and several screw to K mount adapters. I use all of my original lenses save the standard length. Still love Pentax!
Awesome video bro. I HAVE THE MICH LIGHTER smaller KS1 and KS2 and also many mirrorless cameras. The Pentax has a completely different user expirience, The best grip by far and the video quality is great when used on a tripod. Pentax has been my favorite DSLR even compared to Canon. BULLET PROOF CAMERAS unlike the Sony that I had which the Sony rear screen corrupted just after my 1st year of owning it.
I switched from Canon RF to Pentax, Pentax is #1 by far. Electronic VF will never be as good as OVF, the lenses are compact and feel like heirloom quality. I want yo make a video jist like this becuae i now love Pentax so much.
I have bought Pentax K1 MK2. It is a very good camera. I have previously used top end Pentax cameras and they have been great. I did have a Nikon but it was a disappointment regarding exposure.
Thanks for posting! Because my day job is writing software (with photography as hobby), I tend to be attracted to technical toys with shiny buttons and so I'm quite prone to upgrading to something nearer to the latest & greatest (although I don't usually buy when first released as it happens). However I have had my K-1 for 4 years now and for once I'm not craving any other camera - in fact the K-1 is quite possibly better than my skills deserve. I do a lot of walking with my gear, I'm not super young and so don't like a heavy kit and also quite like shooting with primes. So I tend to carry around the 3 x FA limiteds (love them!) a lot - which makes for a relatively small and light kit or the DFA 28-105 (which performs beyond my expectations) if weather is not going to be so good. I do miss a decent ultra wide though - and I think the DFA 15-30 doesn't fit with my usage pattern unfortunately. Hoping the new UWA DFA limited comes out in the not too distant future. My only, somewhat minor (as its manageable), complaint with the K-1 is shutter shock. It shows up quite a bit for me (irrespective of SR on or off or tripod use), I think, because I shoot mainly with very light lenses (heavier lenses appear to dampen these vibrations). But if I mostly avoid the 1/60 - 1/250 shutter speed range when using OVF and have ES turned on in LV, its not a problem.
Hi there. So as a tech guy you know that the k1 is so full of options that half the people don’t even know they exist. With regard to shutter noise yes, I suggest in handheld to shoot with a fast shutter speed. I anyway almost predominantly Shoot off a tripod so I am always shooting with mirror up
Absolutely love your enthusiasm for Pentax mate, which is more than merited.
Thanks a lot. Glad we share a similar passion !
The k3 was certainly a ground breaking camera when it was released and I am sure the new apsc will follow a similar trend
Awesome video mate, you've gained a subscriber.
I’ve been shooting PENTAX since the 80s and was one of the early ones into their first *istD DSLR at the end of 2003. It’s still working but I’ve been using the K-1 since 2017. While I also use an Olympus OM-D for some lightweight needs, landscape has always been my thing and the K-1 excels at this
It certainly does the job doesn’t it. Well I got the day wrong there with the istD. I think I said 2006....oops.
Hahahahaha. Yeh, gotta love em. What a great camera when it came out the k10. Some of my best ever images were taken with that camera
Sorry to here we lost you mate
@@MattBishopPhotography After testing some FF cameras like 6d, d750 and some of those a7 cameras decided to stay with the crop Pentax k3 :)
@@georgiiliev411 oh, you stayed on. Great. You’ll love the new apsc then!
Brilliant, fam. Well done. I’ve done Pentax since the K10. Into a K5 IIs now. Stepping on up to full frame next.
Respect, bro.
Well your next step is an exciting one
Good onya mate. And how are you finding the switch after being a Nikon users?
Have a great day
I have been shooting Pentax since 1978, I have been a Pentax user since then even now as a Professional!
thats brilliant mate. What a history!!! and the fact that you still shoot with them too says something about this brand doesnt it. Oh yes, and the photographers behind them too
@@MattBishopPhotography i shoot portrait, weddings and food with my pentax K1
Brilliant. It’s such a flexible camera and when you know and feel it the results are incredible, right?
@@MattBishopPhotography absolutely! A camera is a tool, not a magic stick. You need to understand how to use the tool properly to get the results you desire. Tools have shortcomings, but if your familiar with them then you know how to minimize those issues and get the desired outcome
David Bailey swears by the reliability of Pentax. Build lasts for DECADES+
Go on!
Thanks a lot mate. Very kind of you to say so. Yes, I bet the 645 would be a joy to use on field!!!!!
I bought my first Pentax in the 70s have the k1 now
Great video Matt. Nice to hear an aussie accent espousing Pentax.
I just spent a week on a photo tour with 7 others. None of whom had even seen a Pentax in the wild. I got all sorts of questions from the 'old hands'. "Why do use that?" "Can't you afford a Canon?" "Doe's it shoot raw?" "I hear there are not many lenses."
I even got a swipe about the lenses not being "L series" PFFFT.
I really should have taken the grip off, mounted the FA 43 or 77 and showed them 'stealth mode in the pub at dinner. Try that with a Sigma beer can or an L series. I use the Da 40 as a body cap.... :)
Then I got back home and pulled up the raw files.
We’ll
Just have to wait and see.
The vision of dslr still has its place and I see that
I totally agree. It will be fun to see where they go. Keep shooting, and have fun out there!
Cheers made. Glad you found it relevant to you needs. The k3 III will be out soon. It’ll be a great little camera, as are all their systems.
Just bought a used k-5 as a weather sealed travel camera. My first Pentax, looking forward to trying it out.
Thanks a lot for this video , I share the same passion for Pentax gear
your very welcome and thankyou!!!
Fantastic video Matt, Pentax checks all the boxes for landscape, astro, still life and portrait, my only regret was waiting so long to finally get my K-1ii. And like you I still have my first SLR the K1000 and my ME along with all my original lens from the film days.
Thanks a lot mate. Yeh...gotta love the old k1000!!!!! Have a great day and thanks for watching
That can be an issue in some country’s unfortunately
Great stuff..totally get your points. Nice to see you flying the flag. Everything is in a rush to keep up. Perhaps in this new world we all need to take a step back. Pentax makes products that last and at a good pace. I am happy with the system.
Well said. Glad you see it that way too
Glad I stumbled on your channel!
Excellent video 😮!
Thank you very much!
I used/borrowed my friend's Pentax K1000 during my college time in end 80s/early 90s (we bought negative rolls we cut & insert in each barrel in dark room ourselves) & then started using digital cam with fuji pocket digital cam until Pentax K3 came out in 2013 which I still keep until now & Pentax KP a few years later & I m quite satisfied using both accompanied by DA* 50-135mm F2.8 + DA 50mm F1.8 (for fashion & headshot) + HD DA 55-300mm ED WR (for outdoor fun) + DA 18-135mm DC WR + Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 + Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 + Tamron F2.8 28-75mm F2.8

Yes the 15-30 is just a brilliant piece of glass for sure. I have never used the 10-17
Awesome Matt. I was considering making a video like this myself, but you pretty much covered it!
Thanks a lot mate. Yeh, a lot had to be said and I am glad I got it off my chest.
@@johanneshainer3460 that is the aim. More brand awareness is certainly needed
Great video - I totally agree with your assessment of the K1! Thanks for making it.
Thanks a lot. Appreciate your feedback and your very welcome. Next week I will be putting out a new video on field. New video gear and audio. I have put a lot into this one so hope you can get to see it and appreciate your future feedback
Great, thanks man!

Thank you for sharing your methodology on why you use the Pentax platform for landscapes! Cheers!
Thanks a lot mate. Have a great evening
They'll all work? The Pentax bodies work with all Pentax and K-mount lenses since the seventies...
@@thomasijontichy5651 Thanks!
How do you mean caught up in grief ?
@@MattBishopPhotography
{edit}
"cought or getting grief" means being chastised or other photographers giving you a hard time for sticking with Pentax.{/edit}
Soundsed like you were being defensive or apologetic for being a Pentax shooter.
Bravo!
It would be nice to know how you get a polarizer (or any filter) onto the front of the 15-30mm.
With a kase 150mm kit
I use the Nisi 150mm filter system
Contrast detection is a powerful too and in many situations and a lot of the time more
Reliable than my aging eyesight!!! Hahahahah
Amazing passion for your art. Thanks!
I have both K1 Mk2 and a K3. Both are my go-to cameras for just about any photo situation. They do exactly what I expect with perfection.
I use the kase which seems to be more neutral and resistant too
I like a big camera also and you have love that shutter sound.
Beautiful. Where have the photos at 23:28 been shot?
Thanks a million! They were taken on the last workshop I headed in Patagonia Argentina in March of 2019
Good video, I enjoyed it.
You did not say what lens the first one you talked about actually was. I am very curious.
I believe that was the 15-30 dfa
You are happy with the photos (14:00 on) you get and the camera gives you joy when you use it (5:00 on). The two best reasons.
I suggest looking at a second hand k1 so you can appreciate FF with those lenses. You’d be surprised just how good they are on this body
I really enjoyed the video. Can I ask what lenses did you have on the table. I am very interested to know which ones you use for landscape.
I use the 15-30, 24-70 and 70-200 dfa lenses primarily for landscape and often play with the fa35mm a d 50 mm 1.7 for other types of photography
Hello Matt,
Happy to ear some good things about Pentax in 2020.

(Note: I had to calibrate my camera to each lens, and surprisingly I had to adjust to -12 to get the best results for the 24-70mm lens, AND I suggest that everyone do same in order to get really sharp images.)
I am extremely happy with this camera, and have invested on lens, ND Filters etc therefore I wont give up on this piece of camera.
What was that first lens you said it was your favorite but didn't mention what it is. Good video helps me justify moving from mirrorless to Pentax
Sorry mate. Your right! It’s the 15-30 dfa
Love my K3! It’s great value and a solid build.
Certainly is
Hope to see more full frame dslrs from pentax. Still using my k7 from back then, maybe consider a k3 ii once they get cheaper next year.
You can get the mark II at a great price right now and still a great camera
I've been shooting with Pentax since 1985, started off with a - you might have guessed it - K1000. Over the years the flock got considerably bigger. I still have (and use) my K1000 but I have added 2 MEs (1 with a winder), an MX, LX, KM, KX and K2. Ah, and a heap of 17 lenses, almost all primes. Even though I also use my K-5 DSLR from time to time, but I mainly shoot film.
Would love to see a photo of that collection!
Well said mate. Gotta love our Pentax cameras!!!!!!
What 'IS' the first actual lens You've pointed out so enthusiastically?
Which lens. The 15-30?
Cheers mate
@@MattBishopPhotography Yes one day I would like to shoot pentax again! I am going to subscribe.... so don't let me down :-)
The again. John.
Haha
Then you know very well what I am talking about and happy you have come back to Pentax!!!!
@@MattBishopPhotography 100%! It's an outstanding camera system. I missed it the whole time the Sony was my only camera. Super glad to have it back!
The lighter body weight and smaller size makes carrying it as a walkabout camera a dream
Still dissatisfied with AF in the forest, I bought Nikon's D850.
Looking forward to welcome your back as a pentaxian soon.
Matt, do you consider upcoming DFA* 24mm prime as a nice addition to your current lenses, especially along with 15-30?
Great! You will love what this camera can do. Any help..always happy to help you out! Have a great day
The 150-450 is a fantastic lens.
@@TheJathys for sure. Beautiful for wildlife
I will be sticking with the Olympus/ Panasonic 4/3 system I been using for 16 years but Pentax always fascinated me and I hope they stick around.
2. their marketing is certainly more descrete than other brands so awareness is low.
excelent video my friend, im switch from nikon to Pentax a few monts ago, and im very happy now, i have a cuestion
do you recommend the 70-200 f2.8 ? or have a review of that glass?
well keep shooting and making beautiful photos
best wishes and hugs from México!!
Man, you definitely need to do an astrotrace video. I've been looking for a good vid on this for years!
Well hopefully the new APSC might be a good option for you. I am sure of it that it will have significant AF improvements
And the k3ii also brillant for an apsc packed with similar features
really nice shots at the end there - a great camera in the right hands
Cheers mate. Much appreciated. A system like this, once you understand how it works, is such a powerful
Tool
Pentax rock
I have bought Pentax K1 MK2. It is a very good camera. I have previously used top end Pentax cameras and they have been great.
I did have a Nikon but it was a disappointment regarding exposure.
Great!!!
