5 Reasons to Buy - The Pentax KP - Affordable mirrorless killer?

- When it was first released I downloaded a Raw file from the Pentax KP to play around with. And it has haunted me ever since. Everywhere I looked the camera seemed to get a lot of hate. And I couldn’t understand why.

The jaw dropping image quality plus my positive experiences with Ricoh and Pentax cameras lead me to think this might be one of the most underrated cameras out there.
When the price dropped almost 50% I just had to go for it.Sadly I just missed out on a short deal which includes the 50mm f1.8 and a cash back. But never the less, its a very affordable piece of technology.

Pentax the most underrated brand
I've recently built up a Super Takumar lens collection. Those old Pentax lenses are simply a joy to use.
Second
agreed....
its there fault if im gonna pay 100s for a camera it can't be as ugly as that
i genuinely want somebody to show me a good look pentax camera
Pentax lenses are unique
I really wish Pentax would "come back" and hit the mainstream again with some jaw-dropping new entries. I'm a big fan of their film SLRs from the old days.
Had the same wish too.
I've become a Pentax user because of my dad. He uses Pentax camera's all of his life. I got my first camera from him a K5 and love it.
The Pentax limited series lenses are superb. Glad you're giving Pentax their fair due.
Better than Canon's. Pentax is miles ahead in technical advances
I think pentax has the superb IQ & feature..they just lacking marketing budget, that makes their camera unpopular and underrated
Yes, lack of marketing holds Pentax back, especially for a camera like this. I can't find Pentax on any shelves at camera stores near me and I'm reluctant to buy a camera with funky interchangeable grips if I can't physically hold it in my hand.
The lack of prominence and availability of Pentax products in shops has concerned me for years. Obviously I don't know the budgets, but I cannot see how Pentax will remain a viable/feasible option if photography newcomers, unaware of the the excellent and highly competitive features of a Pentax, continue to buy into Canon or Nikon by default.
I'm not bagging Can/Nikon - they make great gear - and what else is a new buyer to do if they can't actually lay their hands on a Pentax to test out? I think a Pentax camera body tends to offer much better value and feature set at any particular price point.
It would be a shame to see them go under. Pentax has been an innovative camera maker for decades but unless you're a bit of a camera buff, people just don't know about them anymore and it's too hard to go looking for the gear. I always used to suggest that friends try out a Pentax before buying an SLR but they just can't find them. Pentaxians have been concerned about this for years and I really hope Ricoh can put some serious effort into raising the Pentax brand profile.
We can't buy them if they're not in the shops.
Excellent review ... someone that really understands what Pentax is truly all about. I have been loyal Pentax since 1973 and, coincidence or not, I shot a Ricoh Rangefinder 35mm prior to that in the 60's. Pentax has always been about setting trends, providing value and making some of the toughest SLRs ... period. Cameras like the K-1 and now the KP show that Ricoh is serious about returning Pentax to a respected stature.
Please continue to tell it like it is ...
Does Pentax KP have focus motor in body?
@@kamilpotato3764 sure does
The main press are in bed with market leaders and where they want the market to go. Any company that isn't on board with that idea, or the products they produce, seem to be getting squashed. To me the market is splitting between still photographers and vloggers/video shooters. That's no reason to compare every camera against the standard that the market leaders are trying to create. I applaud Mattias for remaining objective, love the reviews you produce.
its grip. can be changed. Mind BLOWN.
A feature borrowed from a past Pentax classic - the LX 35mm film camera.
Such a beautiful and underrated camera. Been on the fence about getting one for a long time. Unfortunately my wallet can only support two systems, however had I to start all over again, especially given what has Ricoh Pentax been doing as of late (could still do a lot more) it would be hard not to choose this camera for what it offers that are truly geared towards photography.
Pentax K3 II and Pentax KP are great cameras with unique features. There plenty of K mount lenses and especially manual focus ones. Also there plenty of Tamron and Sigma autofocus lenses with Pentax mount.
A great choice is the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 K mount lens.
Pentax has been quite the opposite of Canon. On one hand, you have a system that has been deliberately handicapped by its manufacturers and people gobble it up because of the popular name. On the other hand, you get a system jam packed with features and yet due to its diminishing popularity, the brand is often swept under the rug. I guess one of the major reasons for this is that Canon has superb marketing and Ricoh seems to be giving minimal attention to the Pentax wing.
Canon also has released a lot of features before any of the competitors. People often want the latest features.
Wow. This is the best Pentax review on RUclips.
I asked for a Pentax review in your last video and here it is.
Can you do the K1 next and maybe another video on photo editing.
The colour tone in your photos is spectacular. .
The K1 is a lot cheaper these days than initial price. But still a bit steep for the direction Im taking this channel.
I understand. Keep up the good work.
I love your channel
Mattias Burling you Can ask pentax for the k1 to review it
As a Pentaxian. Bravo!!!!
I would recommend you buy the Pentax M or A 100mm f/2.8.
I have both Pentax k50 and Sony a7 series. To me Sony is hell of a tool but what it lacks is that artisan feel Pentax gives you.
I just upgraded f rom a K-50 to the KP and it is a world away as far as capabilities and image quality, and I love my K-50!
@@tmneedham4616 how is the video quality in your opinion;
My first camera was a K3. What a pleasure. I fell in love with photography. I had all the pancake primes. This was 2015 and everything was cheaper. I should have kept the system. The ergonomics, buttons, grip, etc. The tracking AF was just okay, I had some missed focus shots of my baby and it had no eye AF. I made the unforgivable sin of switching to Sony. My god, the opposite. A6300 was a brick. Made by an appliance manufacturer instead of a brick photography company. Huge regret and frustration, loss money and time. I now shoot Nikon film and Fuji mirrorless. But I don’t think I had more fun and learned more than I did with the Pentax. I was shooting daily
*"Everywhere I looked the camera seemed to get a lot of hate. And I couldn’t understand why."*
I myself TBH only looked at Pentax because it was cheaper and the lenses build without I.S. were somewhat cheaper when you look at it from a second hand perspective compared to Canikon. In Europe or my own country Netherlands, Pentax seems to be completely forgotten or only exists in the shadows of the Behemoths Nikon & Canon (and now maybe Sony or Olympus as well). No mainstream electronics shops sell them unless its an reputable camera store, but even then sometimes no actual stock. Somehow there is just more marketing and advertisements from Nikon & canon while Pentax just sits there, to be remembered or to be found like some kind of a photographic treasure. this rambeling of mine doesn't make sense...
Uhm, yeah... I think the hate comes from the people who think that they know cameras but only know Nikon and Canon to be synonymous with high quality cameras and photos...?
Y.F. Chan helemaal mee eens!
Yes , which is strange , as Pentax has a rich history , with many great cameras !
I agree that Pentax sits in the shadow of the better promoted brands. Decades ago it was one of the Big 3, and has unfortunately gone through different owners which have had different degrees of commercial success. And I blame much on marketing at both ends. Currently Ricoh is producing good product and seems to have let the engineers innovate but how many ads do you see for Pentax? On the other end, retailers have shrinking interest in a shrinking market and only so much counter space or money to stock cameras... so they will likely gravitate to stocking the better known names. I have always (since the 70's ) seen Pentax as better value for money and just as good as the now-Big 2.
I have one it's fantastic
@@derekmadge Like we both know Ricoh-Pentax marketing is non-existent. And just like you said, the DSLR market is struggling because of the smart phones. Now the only people who buy big clunky cameras are enthusiasts and pro's, IMO.
I like Pentax but sometimes I see accessories that I'd like to have are not build for Pentax, so sometimes I gravitate to the Big 2 or even Fujifilm.
What a great review! As a K3 owner and a K-S2 owner, I can endorse everything you’ve said. I am not financially well-resourced and could never dream of owning the expensive Canons and Nikons, but I’ve been more than happy with my Pentax camera. I’ve also invested in the green Limited series and concur with you absolutely that these are stunning pieces of glass. I love your reviews and have also followed you down the Ricoh GR rabbit hole. My only worry now is that your review will push up the price of second-hand Pentax bodies! And I have one last question, when are you going to introduce us to your dog!
Try the K1 with a 40mmLtd attached and you will fall in love with photography again.
wow its such a shame its so over looked. Pentax always made great film cameras and this is clearly no exception. We seem to get wripped off in the UK as these are currently £999 in the shops
That photo of the guy leaning on the train window at the platform is superb!
Great video review, as always. My first SLR back in the 1970's was a Pentax Super ME, and I loved it. I switched to Nikon in 1980 because of their extensive system, but I always sort of missed my little Pentax. This review of yours has me wanting to get one of these little Pentax "spaceships" as you called it. Thanks again for the great review.
Your in-depth review has made me wanna get this one. I never realize before that Pentax has this amazing APSC DSLR camera.
In my country (Indonesia), the price tag is about 900 USD / 790 Euro. It is quite expensive for camera that had been released many years ago. I'm still waiting its price tag decrease to 500 USD so I can get it for my secondary camera.
Does Ricoh have plan to release Pentax KP mark II? Or have plan to release APSC mirrorless camera based on Pentax KP specs/platform?
I thinks if Ricoh has "mirrorless version" of this Pentax KP with identical build quality & performance (with additional AF improvement & 4K video recording support), it will be very competitive and become serious contender for Sony/Fuji APSC mirrorless line up.
I bought mine today and i cant wait! I had a K20D for 11 years! And I finally decided to buy a new model!
My first 3 cameras were Pentax. Always have a soft spot for it. I don’t need a new camera but I really want to have a Pentax just to hold it. Also, rarely saw any camera reviews with shootings as good as yours. Well done.
Pentax cameras are TOP QUALITY building ....
Rock solid !
Pentax Top Line lenses are pricy but truly excellent ....
Pentax / Ricoh lacks Canon and Nikon powerful marketing strategy ........
I've been a Pentax shooter since the K10D. I have some Pentax glass and some third party lenses. I also have a nice collection of M42 Asahi/Pentax manual focus lenses as well. Currently I use a K-5II. So I'm sold on the Pentax system and am not in the market for a new camera. Then I watched this video. ..I never gave the KP a second look. I had no idea it had such an extensive feature set. I'm not in the market for a new camera but if I do begin to look for a new one I'll have to consider the KP. Thank you for the video. Very well done.
I should stop watching Mattias Burling's videos since I have already been bought several cameras... but I don't think I can.....
Every time a see a new camera video by you I get so happy!
This camera is a killer!! Period!
Just bought a Kp. I had a Kx and really old lenses from my Lx days. It's awesome. After doing some tests on the old lenses I have a greater appreciation of them now too. Even my old 50mm 1.4 M lens works with auto-exposure using the green button. I think Pentax may be unique in this area. Great review, Mattias.
Does Pentax KP have focus motor in body?
@@kamilpotato3764 The focus motor is in the lens.
@@AndrewGoddardWombat what I meant can it autofocus older lenses without motor in them. Like Nikon does wit older AF lenses.
@@kamilpotato3764 Yes it has an in-body focus motor like all modern Pentax bodies do.
Because of the sheer number of Pentax lenses I had accumulated to play with on the Q cameras I decided I might as well get a Pentax DSLR too and while I expect I will eventually end up with a K1 initailly I decided to go with an APS-C model and while I thought about the KP the K3II apealed to me more especailly as it is now discontinued and can be found a lot cheaper than the KP I did even think about a seconhand K3 but then a nice K3II came up secondhand for £500 so I went with that. One of the main reasons for going Pentax is to see how the IBS works with the big old Tamron Adaptall 2 300mm f2.8 and the 400mm F4.
Some great lenses for Pentax. Was going to wait for the D500 to get closer to 1k used but maybe I'll try this out. Pentax does have some fine legacy lenses worth the system alone.
Great video Mattias! I LOVE Pentax and in fact have used the Pentax K system since 2011 - I switched from Canon. I love the image quality, features and robustness and weather sealing! Can't wait for The K3 upgrade at Photokina.
I love your dog and your videos.. not in that order..😊
I have just bought a pentax kp because of this review and the camera sent me into a buying spree of lenses this has been my favourite camera out of the many i have had over the years the amount of customisation is so above what i am used to. I will admit i do find it uncomfortable to use ( i did get mine used with only one grip) but the customisation options are just too good to not use it more and more.
This thing is jam packed! So cool. I love random cool feature packed little Jem's like this that you don't really hear about then when you find them your wondering why you haven't. I love your channel and videos , ive learned alot and it's my go to for unique one of a kind reviews etc. You also do great work photography wise as well I question how you get the photos you do all the time. Just incredible work brother.
The focus confirm light seems to be a cool Feature for all the good old Lenses. Until now I didn't know that it has that. Seems like I have to look out for a KP now ;-) Happy Shooting!
Johannes Hainer catch-in focus is even better, love that feature... Just hold shutter, manually focus and camera will snap photo when subject falls into focus. I have more keepers with moving subjects than with any AF lens I ever had.
Excellent review and great sample images. I've had an email telling me about a £300 saving and I'm *so* tempted to go get one of these, especially after seeing your review. It definitely looks like a seriously underrated camera. It's kind of ugly though, but I quite like how it looks. It looks a bit old school in a way. That rear screen though, lovely clear menu which is a big plus for people like me who need glasses!
I love when reviews set the record straight like this Mattias. I try to do the same with my reviews online as well. Some things are so obvious it makes me question some of the criticism out there. The ambiguity alone makes me question a lot of comments. Great job, I like all of your videos.
Yup, massive criticism only sparks my interest as I then just guess its misunderstood.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter found your video recently. Been thinking about selling my d5300 and gx 80 to get KP. Unfortunately availability in UK for KP in second hand market is nearly non existent.
Used to be a Canon user but now I have the Pentax K-1 and the Pentax KP and love them ! No Regrets !
me too :P
@@akshatchand8753 you seem to be an Indian user and i assume you are based in India. Would like to know how is its after sales services, availability of lenses etc in India. Would appreciate your input
Pentax K30 user here.. looking forward to upgrade on K70 😊 because I can't yet afford KP 😁
Did you? Been using the K30 professionally for a couple years now and I'm transitioning into video. What are your thoughts?
I have the K70. I really love it. Though the KP style is very attractive as well.
I just bought a KP. It was a tough choice between a Nikon d7200 and the Pentax. The reason I decided for the Pentax was because I wanted to use my old glass. With the KP no need for an adapter for the m or a series lenses and also for M42 you can used Pentax's own adapter which fits flush with the bayonet. Then the choice really opens up because you can use all the Takumars and many other including all the Russian built lenses for that artistic look. In effect what you get is a DSLR which gives you a hint of the analog feeling... great camera.
Those controls look very nice. If Fujifilm released a camera with a more modern design and those same controls and customization options I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Your videos make me want to pick up a second camera system. But I'm still not sure if I should invest in capable budget secondary system or just invest more into my current one...
Thank you for an honest review on Pentax cameras.....they are incredible! !
I even dont have a camera but i love watching your videos. From Nepal
As always nice review. Can you please make review on K-3 ii, now a days can be found around $400? Thanks!
wow pentax is actually powerful tool.. nice review !!
I have the silver Pentax KP with the silver 20-40 mm lens !! A great combo !!!
Jersey Joe That's an awesome lens!
Great Review! Learned a lot about Pentax. I am a Nikon user but Pentax has become my dream system. I will be switching over to the K-1II early 2020.
You’re making me very greedy... I sometimes play with the thought to replace my Fuji X-E1 for something that focuses quicker, and this seems really awesome!
nice images mate. Main attraction for me with this camera is the ability to use the cheap old version Tamron 70-200 and get stabilisation and quick AF.
Cool camera and briliant review.
01:03 that range blew me away, really cool.
01:47 is that Gammla Stan?
I know Matt Granger gets some flack frome Pentax users, but I can see they make some rather briliant stuff as well.
Anyway keep up the briliant work!
KP... maybe it should be called the "Kim Possible" camera... lol.
Love Pentax and Ricoh. Also greatly appreciate your fresh take on things as always. Feels like every other camera source just repeats what others have said.
Oh man, now I need one. Ok, want :)
Damian Brown Im saving your new video for tonight. Seriously scared it will awake the G.A.S ;)
Î love pentax camera too.
I love Ricoh / Pentax cameras!!
Good review. You highlighted the benefits and your images showed what a great tool the camera is. I was torn about buying one, I am waiting for a new K3. There seems to be no word of its imminent arrival and KP is not supposed to replace it. So, your review was a welcome description of a great picture taking tool made of premium parts that has image quality to the fore and you have made me more curious about KP.
I'm literally the only photographer in my city that uses Pentax, thanks you for the review. I would love to speak and converse with other Pentax users! Follow me on IG @thepentaxxguy .
I got a pentax k5 and still smaller than the KP. I only got it for $100 and i still working with it. Dont forget to upload the video of the pentax Q that will skyrocket the camera please xD
The Q video has been up for almost two weeks already :)
This camera is a SERIOUS contender #backwardscompatible
Great review Mattias! I love my KP! Thanks for a great channel too proving good photos does not always need expensive gear! Tack!
Why don't more cameras have detachable custom-size grips??
Thank you for this insightful review with the excellent photographic samples included. I like that you provide enough pause to view each one. I was saving toward a K-70 to upgrade from my (vintage) K20D but a friend's aperture armature failure on his K-50, and reading of a 30% probability of such with a K-30/50/70 motivates me to save a little longer to afford the KP (with battery grip).
Did I miss the mention of weather sealing in the features part of the video. Would like to see a follow up video more detail on the lenses you use on it. Third party Sigma and Tamron part of the plan?
APS-C DSLR w/ ability to shoot manual focus vintage glass ! Absolutely, amazing. My only hesitation is the potential complexity of programming and spinning wheels vs. FujiFilm XT-4 with traditional old school controls. Fuji is 2x the price, so I am leaning toward Pentax with the learning curve. Excellent review ... as others have commented, returning the brand to the marketplace is long overdue. I aced college photo 101 w/ my brother's Pentax K1000 manual focus, 35mm, SLR. ... finally, where is vintage Minolta in all this ???
Fantastic review Mattias, thank you! I’ve been using the K-5iis and K-01 for the last three years and really love the solidity and ergonomics of the system and the awesome Pentax colours. The sturdy little metal primes are amazing. I purchased a new KP last night online for $900 Canadian - which I think is a total bargain! Can’t wait to receive it today and mount my Voigtlander 40mm f2 Ultron in K-Mount! I think it’ll be a perfect match :)
kind ion cool, have fun with it :)
Just wait till you try the DA Limited 20-40 WR to go with it.
never used it but... apart from everything objective, isnt it a beautiful lens? its like the takumar focusing rings merged with modern matte metal constructions
The DA 20-40 Limited is brilliant on the KP! Silent, fast focusing and amazing IQ. It is amazing with any good glass, including old Takumars!
Completely agree. This lens and the KP are a match in heaven. So beautiful together, and the IQ is superb.
Mattias, I know you'd prefer to review older cameras, ones that offer a great value, or the ones many people hate... however I do think the K3 Mark III may be one worth doing as well :). After all it's pretty obvious that Canon and Nikon are giving up on DSLR's but Pentax isn't- and I have to say, it's a real gem.
I have a Pentax K20d and loved it so much I looked out for something with a higher pixel count. The KP was out of my price range unfortunately so I opted for a mint condition K3 body that had a shutter count of only 695 and cost me only £399. It's a fantastic camera and like all Pentax's, feels so comfortable and natural in the hand. I have had mirrorless cameras but found them too unbalanced and fiddly, plus I much prefer the clear bright optical viewfinder of a Pentax DSLR.
This is the single best review/introduction of anything I have ever seen on RUclips. You did an outstanding job!
This video has encouraged me to dig what Pentax brand is capable of. Ever since I was kid, this brand was so famous. And later what I knew about this brand is just it has superior weather sealing. The fact that I'm a canon entry level shooter, comparing to this makes me drool so much!
Glad you've a positive review, I'm fed up listening to Pentax bashers! I think Pentax make cameras that appeal to individualists, strong and reliable. Like me, I prefer a Volvo and a Pentax, I'm like a sensible Swede. I found out I'm 40% Scandinavian via DNA and I'm very pleased that I know where my Nordic/North Germanic sentiment comes from.
I love the value you can get from Pentax. I recently bought a k-50 with kit lens plus two menual lenses all for less than £250 in perfect condition. Long live pentax!
i was a pentax shooter at the very beginning of my film days. the PZ-1p was my fav along with the sturdy MX. i then moved to pentax digital but abandoned the brand for the sony nex series. i always felt the pentax's handled so well. the ergos and feature set were great and they had a very effective in-body-stabilization years ago! are you really giving up on your d500 and now shooting with the kp? as always, thank you for the effort and the sharing. i am a very appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.
I was very interested in this little gem but i can't do without the top lcd on my reflex..
well it has 3 dials so i guess that would compensate
gonna buy this camera didn't think about the top lcd until you mentioned it and now i'm sad
but honestly i don't think there was literally any room for the pentax engineers to fit another lcd on top of that behemoth
Your sample shots are amazing! Now, time to find a KP for myself.
Currently I live in Panama, and I think I am the only owner of a Pentax KP in this country (sad). I am no expert in photography, so I was always intrigued whether or not I made a good decision in purchasing this camera, loving so much the Pentax brand for its quality and affordability. Mattias, I learned a lot from your videos, and I personally consider you an expert in such topics. There is so much negative comments in the Internet, that watching your video I gain new hopes for this beautiful camera. I look forward to more videos. Just one comment, my KP after several long exposures shots, starts behaving erratically, like freezing, or behaving weird. That happened to you? Congratulations.
Thanks for the comment. Im glad you like my videos.
No it has never freezed on me. Is the buffer light blinking while its happening?
I would recommend visiting Pentaxforums.com if you have questions about Pentax. Lot of knowledgeable Pentax shooters there.
This is what's amazing about you. Willing to be objective about gear that is non-mass or non mainstream just because it's older or from smaller brands. As someone who has shot Pentax along with other stuff, I agree entirely about Pentax value and quality. They're seriously underrated. Your review is better than any I have seen even by long time Pentaxians. Now you make me want to try the KP. The focus peaking was a great feature in the GXR. Brilliant of them to include it in the KP. The best photography gear channel for views beyond the hype. My only problem is your pics are so good I start to think it's all you and you could do it with any gear. You get pics out of these things I doubt I ever could .
zer0L0 Im glad you enjoyed the video :)
Your videos are always interesting, and the cameras you show us are so different and at the same time so good that I always wish to try one of those. Thank you for your efforts and the quality of this channel.
A great camera..
Isn't Pentax K-70 an even more affordable camera with alot of the same features?
Its as always subjective. For me the KP was the easy choice given the features and being pretty much the same price.
Always a pleasure to listen to your thoughts on non-vogue (expensive too!) gear that works like a beast. Keep up the good work!
it takes split prism focusing screens too.. great for manual lenses when you have the need to go fully retro.
Nice video man. I wish to have a pentax to try it myself. Till then, I ll trust you.
Thank you Mattias for the good review. You've almost made me a Pentax guy!
Keep going, I love your videos. Great photos too!
I think the market is healthier with competition and DIVERSITY (the kind that actually matters). If it wasn't for competition, digital cinema would still be 2K, and you would never be able to buy your own 4K RAW camera.
And we would have to basically wait forever for Nikon and Canon to give us progress in digital photography. Thank God we don't depend on Canon and Adobe for our tools. Give me competition, innovation and diversity, even if it means a bit of chaos!
I found you recently, and for some reason, I trust you a lot.
The internet is weird.
This was such a great review it almost seemed to have an underlying bias. But you were critical of the camera in its shortcomings, your review makes me want to purchase one of these in 2020, well done!
EVFs have improved but I find I still prefer optical viewfinders. My present cameras are a Leica M10 and a Canon 5D Mk.III.
My first digital camera was a Pentax K100D. I bought it a few months before my family and I went to Vietnam, shortly after our twin daughters' 4th birthday, to visit my wife's family (on my first trip, in 2000, I had the Nikon FE I bought in 1982). I had Pentax's flagship 16-45mm f4 zoom; a third-party 70-300mm; and a screwmount 50mm f1.4 Super Takumar on an adapter. I made my best images with the old Super Takumar. I later added 85mm and 135mm Takumars, and a 28mm Zeiss Biogon.
I went back to film and Nikon because digital wasn't quite there for me yet. Unfortunately, I didn't hold on to that great, old glass. I'm thinking of re-entering Pentax with a KP and later a 645Z. I wear the Leica, with its 1979 Leitz Canada 50mm f2 Summicron-M, every day. The Canon's mostly for commercial work, especially using tilt-shift lenses. A few clients, because of their own post-shoot workflows, require either Canon or Nikon files. Most clients don't care as long as you deliver the goods, and I could see using the KP for their work and the 645Z for higher-end production. If I had a Pentax (and I seem to be talking myself back into it) I'd also have that gorgeous, FA 43mm f1.9.
I would add an unknown gem too: The Pentax SMC-DA 3.5-5.6 18-55 mm AL II. Scores very high and can be had for as little as 30 USD on ebay (Dec. 2019)
For a kit lens this is one of the best. Remember to get the AL II (2).
scrolling trough your IG has been really inspiring, such a leap in skill in such a small time!
I had a Pentax K3ii. My first camera. Loved it, but bought into fake Sony hype and sold it...biggest mistake. I was miserable with Sony. I now shoot Fuji mirrorless and Nikon dslr. I hope to have a Pentax body in the future, it was a joy
Very nice unconventional review, love it
I always find your reviews as some of the best ever! Thanks, Mattias, from Atlanta!
Darn you. Now I want to try a KP. Darn you. I just wish Pentax would make a DSLR shaped like a MX or ME.
Mert Kabakci Unfortunately, you're probably right. Back to the ME then.
alze i found out FA series prime lenses great- relativelly cheap, with autofocus nad cod FullFrame usable :) (i have also 35mm body)
Great to have interchangeable grips. It also allows you to get new grips as they wear out. I don’t think any other camera maker offers this unique option. Looks like a nice simplistic camera. Seems the other camera makers focus too much on video. It’s price is fantastic!
It's what they did with the Pentax LX.
