Good information Steve. Usually when I get out of my car, I immediately lock the car and I turn off the fob so it no longer transmits. That will work against the repeater boxes sold on Amazon.
Sales guy told me there was no alarm and no immobilizer on my 2025 Camry, that I needed to pay to have one installed. I said that sounds like a lie, he was very insistent it was not. Great to know I’m not crazy.

All Toyotas that have Immobilizer System have a security light.

The way you can tell if you have the alarm system is if the security indicator lights up solid for 30 seconds after you lock and close all doors/hatches. After 30 seconds is up, the light starts flashing. The alarm is then set.
If you lock and close all doors/hatches and the indicator just flashes without lighting up solid for 30 seconds, you don't have the alarm system; you just have the engine immobilizer.
I haven’t seen one in years that didn’t have an alarm. Very easy to test… open a window, lock a door and wait 30 seconds. Then reach in and unlock the door and open it from the inside. They all have it now
@@TrainerSteveClifford That's great to hear! Massive improvement from the previous generation of Toyota vehicles. 2014-2019 Corollas showed an optional alarm system in the owner's manual but almost none of them had it, at least in the United States. All of them had the engine immobilizer though.
I just had my 2022 Tundra stolen 2 weeks ago, thief broke the window, opened door, set off alarm but then jammed the computer so that the alarm shut off after about 10 seconds. Neighbour witnessed the theft but thief was gone within 5 minutes long before Police arrived.
Toyota service advisor said there is almost nothing you can do to stop thieves!

However, I have a question. We have a 2024 Highlander. Had the car about six weeks. Just last night we noticed the security indicator red light was blinking. All of a sudden it started blinking when the car was off, but we never saw that feature prior to yesterday. Is there a way I can disable that ?

It is supposed to blink when the car is off. That is the engine immobilizer system.
Is this something Toyota installed at the factory or at the dealership? Is this different than KARR security system?
@@djb9189 this is all factory stuff. I have no idea what KARR is but I assume it is an aftermarket system. It may it may not be any more effective than the factory system but I’m a bit skeptical of anything aftermarket

I have a 2021 4runner sr5 premium, how come when i open the door, alarm does not go off? Is that a feature i should have or no?
@@nationsmostwanted if you unlock the door with the remote or the key, it will not go off. If you reach in through a window and open from the inside, it will
@TrainerSteveClifford yea mine doesn't do that, I was never noticed this until I was checking something for my insurance company.
Is that standard on all toyota starting in what year, I'm scheduling with deal next week before my warranty ends.
My local dealer took it in today and confirm it's not working but said mine didn't come with that feature. Kinda surprised that new of vehicle to not have one
All they need is Radio frequency copy tool be close to you when locking and bam they copied the radio frequency of the fob
That is not how that works.
Each time it transmits different security code that car resolves to that key.
My new 2024 Tundra window was smashed and the thieves climbed in to disable the anti-theft alarm. ZERO NOISE. No horn, nothing... I'm very glad the Cybertruck is now available because Toyota can no longer blame a lack of technology.
I lost 4runner and rav4 hybrid this not working. Toyota is a joke.
