I love being able to play these games legally on a unique console. Now we are getting more indie games and it’s awesome. I have the EXP and the VS. Love playing these
This goes to show ..with the emulation community ppl still love to support physical Nostalgia games on these new consoles...Evercade is amazing 💪🏾 and awesome video
This handheld sounds really awesome actually. I think I briefly once heard of an Evercade But didn't know anything about it. Thank you for this video detailing how it has so many different games and so many cool features
I really do love Namco Museum compilations on the Evercade. The collection was full console ports of existing Namco games, although I generally want to see the addition of Namco's arcade games.
In theory, yes. In practice, I can't really justify buying another system when I already own a Switch, C64 & A500 Mini, Analogue Mega SG, Super NT & Pocket...
During the pandemic I wrote and recorded 4 albums worth of songs. But a year ago I found out about the Evercade and I purchased the VS. All I gotta say is it's very interesting with rare arcade titles, enjoyable but unpopular RPGs, weird NES and genesis games.. I'll be engaged for a few weeks then, not look at it for a few weeks. But it's fun to discover what's on the multi-game carts for only $20.
4:14 the screen is NOT 4:3, it's 16:9. Most retro games are 4:3 so they will appear pillarboxed on the screen but the screen itself is 16:9 (it's obvious just by looking at it). The system is fully capable of modern 16:9 retro styled games like Cathedral. Also, it's not "tate"-mode with a silent e, it's "Tah-Tay" mode. It was never an English word, It's ALWAYS Tah-Tay!
I bought it day one, it is by far the best approach to retro gaming to date. Just needs to dig down on broader platforms and arcades as there's plenty of big japanese games resting in peace.
I think they've done a fantastic job with that console. It looks great, has the classic old school feel, has the option of playing on a TV, uses the classic cartridge format, and all cartridges include multiple games. Seems like the perfect choice for purists, and for those who sold their old 80's and 90's consoles long ago and now regret it. This would likely be far cheaper then buying the original consoles and especially the games, and the console is actually new and (most importantly of all) of high quality. There are a whole lot of modern day clone consoles out their from many different companies, but the quality always ranges from poor to passable and you still have to track down the original game cartridges. The only real downside of this console for the kind of people mentioned above is that they're not going to be able to get many of the games that they'd be wanting. They'll certainly be able to get some of them, but many games such as Mega Man, Castlevania, Contra, Kirby, Star Fox, Sonic, and anything Mario will probably never be available for this. Also, I see that a few of the cartridges are out of stock on the site and it looks like there are no plans to make more. That includes the Technos Collection which is a major bummer.
I considered getting the Evercade EXP, but eventually decided on the Miyoo Mini Plus. As much as I like the form factor of the EXP, as well as the Tate mode option, I went with the Miyoo Mini Plus to save money. In the long run, it saves me a ton of money and I can customize every systems rom set to my liking, having only the games I want to play and the ability to add or delete more at any time. The Miyoo Mini Plus is a fantastic retro emulation handheld and I highly recommend it.
I think this is the classic dichotomy of retro handheld enthusiasts. Folks like yourself have no issue with putting in a little tinkering time and want access to huge libraries of games so a decent Chinese device tends to get the job done, whereas guys like me are not all that techy, can't be bothered, or just really enjoy collecting physical media. Either way, we all enjoy retro games and are keeping them alive in 2023. I think Blaze were clever in spotting a gap in the market and appealing to their demographic.
I like the Evercade. They have a great forgotten library and the interface is fairly intuitive. The original handheld looks childish but it's durable (my daughter threw it across the room and it's dropped while charging twice and once during play (we have cats who like to knock things over and I usually cook and game at the same time with it) and still works like the day I pulled it from the box. The games make the system and I loved the Lynx collection as I had a Lynx II when I was a lad along with the 7800 which I always thought was an underappreciated line along with the Namco (get it just for Metal Marines, I can't suggest that game enough), Jaleco, and Renovation collections. She's right in that if you just have some random fly by night Ali Baba handheld that's loaded with tons of old games you never really play them. That happened with at least two handhelds I bought with over 64GB of games, despite the selection, the interface is garbage for the bulk of them and they always just seem off in one way or another like they're stretched out, the color is all wrong, the sound is terrible, etc. At best I wind up playing a few NES or other more obscure emulated titles for the Master System, MAME, or NGPC and usually no more than fifteen minutes. The Evercade however is more engaging and I wind up playing all the games on the cartridge and explore the games a lot more, like the Dracula - The Undead game on the Lynx that I finally figured out how to beat after almost a quarter century of trying.
I own original hardware, clone consoles and rom dump devices but got the Evercade handheld in 2020 and haven't looked back. I very rarely play anything that isn't Evercade these days. It's just an easier way to access games I love and discover games I missed. Blaze has had a few teething problems along the way, but their customer service and interaction with the community is very good. Just lately, their cartridges have felt a lot more tailored too, which makes buying them less of a gamble as I have no inclination to collect them all.
Great fan of Evercade here. My first approach was a bit...yeah, not so great, mainly because the first bundled cartridges were full of NES games you can easily find on Famiclones and NES Multicarts. Then I tried it a bit more intensively and...yeah, it's a great device. I don't own all carts and I am intentionally buying just the compilations I would love lo own (modern indie games and Arcade games), but it's a system with its own market now and I'm happy about that.
Every time I consider getting this device (usually after seeing a video like this); I wrestle with it for a bit and then remember I have a Nintendo Switch OLED and a Switch lite. Eventually; most (probably all) of these retro games; will get released on the Switch in some form or another. And unless they completely drop the ball on the next gen Switch (by not including backwards compatibility) I will not likely get any of these devices; tempting as they are. I am glad they exist as it serves as a reminder to Nintendo; that the consumer has MANY options, should they ever decide to not make decisions that their consumers want.
DLCO...(I'm half a year late to this one) as Lady Decade said in her video here..Blaze is a British company..makes a change to be able to buy something in the World that Americans haven't had 100 x the stock of Europe..all those mini replicas like the NES and MD mini or Genesis mini to you lot Playstation mini..and others..China supplied your country with most of the World supply..I couldn't buy any of them at first..had to wait till some went on eBay..used..at higher than original price..while American RUclipsr was buying old new stock at 20 dollar knockdown..and I'm buying used at 70 or 80 pounds or around a 100 dollars..I could go on..luckily I had RaspberryPi's for my emulation at the time..and could wait till the scalpers had gone away..but doesn't it make one feel second class citizen second hand like 2 years late out of fashion..all the RUclipsrs have moved on a year or more and I'm just arriving..
Blaze had a reputation for delivering gaming hardware, just not always impressive gaming hardware. The Game Gadget was decent, but it was just a cheaper feeling Dingoo, and the Neo Geo X was actually pretty good, the emulation left a bit to be desired though. The Game Gadget was their first attempt at the Evercade like business mode. It was an online game store, rather than a physical one.
It's worth noting that Blaze, as of 2019, is a different company to the one that released all of those devices. Its current owners bought the Blaze Entertainment name to accrue the licencing agreements that it still held and focus solely on the Evercade project. AtGames (its sister company) went its own way once the Sega licence was lost, producing (actually ok) pinball products. I wouldn't exactly call Evercade devices premium, but they are of far better quality than the old AtGames and Blaze products the company was once known for.
I have a question for you lady: I want a lot of legal games on a non-chinese device with decent performance and an oled display. I don't want to buy lots of "mini" consoles to connect to my TV , I want a handheld. But I also don't want to pay for separate carts for different games. I don't mind paying for it, whatever the price, as long as I only have to pay once for all I want and not numerous times for different carts. What do you recommend?
Oh, my God, it's so true, what dude said about roms I can't focus on just one game because I have a huge selection of roms I do put them on thumb drives So it feels more like physical media. Put all PlayStation one games on a thumb drive. All PlayStation 2 on a couple. All PlayStation 3 on a couple and so on and so on. So it feels more physical and I like that better but still I have so many to choose from if I get stuck on a level I just go to the next game and forget about it. So there is no real challenge, but if you have a unit, and that's all you got, you will pay more attention to them games. Especially if you buy them. But honestly when I download a ROM and I like it. I want the physical version So honestly, thanks to roms I buy games. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even be a gamer for real. Playing roms For free made me realized. I missed my childhood and I really like gaming so now I want all the newest latest Android systems and I want physical versions of these games I downloaded. And if I See the games I played for free Come out for a new console. I bought like the PS5 of course. I would buy the games because I know what they are and know what the franchise is about. And you don't have a huge selection to just flip through. So when you get stuck on a level, you will get past it. Because you want your money's worth out of the cartridges, but I'll tell you It made a big difference for me Putting roms on thumb drivs gives you something real To hold on to and make copies and give it to friends. I got friends playing through emulation. Because I gave them the first thumb drive full of games with emulators already on them. Just plug and play thumbsticks Now they're hooked to retro gaming and gaming in general. Like me although I find Older games more enjoyable. They seem like they had more heart or something, they seem more original.
Love the evercade especially the second one! But i have to say.. with all the great emulation devices with great screens.. much cheaper… hmm i dont know
The Evercade is an insult on every Retro Gamer. The first two devices i ordered were broken from the start, hence their quality is sub-par, just like PowKiddy. Their so-called Cartridges are SD-Cards in a Shell. There are reports of them being unreadable after 6 months of not using them, where real ROM-Carts last 30+ years, easily.
I have one it does not get much use unless I cant sleep then I get it out of the box play and a little its better then scrolling on twitter or turning on my pc just turn it on play till eyes are tired then back to trying to sleep
I think the evercade is kinda nostalgic cool, but my only problem is I can just get a steam deck and emulate every single old skool and new titles I can buy for way cheaper after buying all the cartridges for evercade.
I'm gonna say HELL NO. There are so many choices for handheld emulator devices, and the list of consoles and arcades you'll be able to emulate will be far greater, with better controls and shoulder buttons and analog sticks, with better screens and better interfaces with more emulator options and customizability and not requiring cartridges. So not to knock the device or anyone's love for it, the list of choices these days just murder this device.
As an Evercade fan I actually agree with you. Steamdeck and some of the Anbernic devices are far more premium and potentially cost less in the long run. However, none of these things appeal to the collectors and lovers of physical media like Evercade does. Blaze has found its niche and been very clever in exploiting it.
@@jondixon4937 I agree on that part. For the collectors that want physical media, the Evercade owns that market, and they offer value by putting many games on one cartridge.
Retro gaming and roms turn me Into a real gamer now I want all these systems I want to Collect Physical versions Of all these games and consoles now. It all started off with emulation because I was bored. Downloaded some rams for free. Played them on a emulator on my phone. Loved it. Got a controller for the phone. The razor Kishi V-2. Now, I'm buying all of these systems and physical versions, all thanks to roms and emulators. If it wasn't for roms and emulators, I wouldn't have realized. I love being a game If it wasn't for roms and emulators, I wouldn't have realized. I love being a gamer now. These companies are making real money from me because. I want the hardware.. So I'm buying their consoles, I'm buying their new Games, and I'm also buying old games on Physical version to play on these new consoles because their backwards compatible. Or I'll just buy the game to play on the original old system instead of Just emulating the system on my computer. honestly looks better but I still want the real Stuff from time to time. But my computer sure makes these games look pretty.
If it was bigger, didn't look so ceep had 2 thumb sticks and could play PlayStation 2 game cube Xbox and dreamcast im in physical cartridges It would be the shit.😊 But the lowest end gaming I do is super Nintendo Genesis and I barely play that unless I'm playing mortal kombat. Or i'm in the mood for super mario brothers three. Other than that, I mainly game Nintendo 64 and up And I'm a thumbstick gamer. I can't stand control pads unless I'm playing Fighting games. If they give it 2 thumbsticks a cleaner, more mature, look a little bigger screen and can play. PS2 dream cast I'm in
Great Stuff! I’d prefer to have newer games. The Bethesda shooters, Injustice 2, Gears of War, Burnout games, all fully available in cartridge form. Not a single download required for a single mega bit. These would be much more attractive to me. Games that are complete, that are not games as a service, that don’t have full and complete cartridges available for them. I’d invest in something like that. I’d give my first born to secure a full copy of the Arcane and Machine Game’s Wolfenstein games, the Doom games and the recent NetherRealm fighters as full and complete cartridges. These are the real brass ring! Edit: I mean I guess I already have these in this form on my Switch devices, and I assume they are there to stay, forever. But I’d like to be sure. I’d rather not have to authenticate a game that hasn’t received a patch since 2019 that hot takes have destroyed the value of… speaking of my favorite game of all-time Wolfenstein: Youngblood, a victim of internet politics and nothing more.
The build and the screen look cheap like it's a drugstore handheld. Honestly, they need to make it out of better materials and. Make make it quality Like PSP or iPhone standards. People will pay the price for a better looking design and feel. Especially with those physical cartridges. You guys are about 80% there from being perfect.
Wait, you have to actually buy cartdriges? For games that are over 30/40 years old? Ugh. Sign me out. I mean, I understand the aesthetic appeal for lots of people, but... Having a huge library where I can play any game of that era free of charge using emulation is more important to me.
Lady Decade you still got Terranigma, the ZX Spectrum, the MSX and the CD32. Oh my heart bleeds for you while the US only got the established systems, i.e. popular. Bleh. Better to get a PC-FX, X68000 and Wonderswan in addition to this.
I got it early on for me getting other games for it proved nightmare the starter games I got for it I disliked all the ones with getting other games proved useful so I giveup and made my own version instead using a Raspberry Pi. The customer service worst experience overall had so far in my life.
With the crazy amount of Chinese consoles available today that emulate every system on the Evercade and more, I don't know why anyone would want to PAY for the cartridges on this system???????
I love being able to play these games legally on a unique console. Now we are getting more indie games and it’s awesome.

love city connections, we had an arcade at start of 80s so got to play many games from that era
Yes. Yes, it is.
I have the Evercade EXP and I love it. Perfect for home gaming or when travelling (apart from driving, naturally 😁) Great video as always!
Can you go ahead and do a live review of you driving and playing the system to verify this ? 😏 JK

A good comparison with the somewhat unfairly maligned Coleco Chameleon. In many ways Evercade fulfills the mission statement of Chameleon and more.
With the addition of an EverSD, the Evercade OG and VS is definitely worth it.
^^ This! One thousand times over! After all, the Evercade devices are just ROM players anyway so why not get to play some of your own ROMs too?
Another great video

PS2 dream cast I'm in
Looks good.
Yes, I would say: "It is a necessity for a gracious living..." 😂
Never played one so I'll defer to your judgment 🤔
Have one
40 winks on the piko 3 collection is a Playstation 1 game!
Yes it is ,Duke Nukem is back to save our Babes 😂
The build and the screen look cheap like it's a drugstore handheld. Honestly, they need to make it out of better materials and.
Make make it quality Like PSP or iPhone standards. People will pay the price for a better looking design and feel. Especially with those physical cartridges. You guys are about 80% there from being perfect.
Wait, you have to actually buy cartdriges? For games that are over 30/40 years old?
Ugh. Sign me out.
I mean, I understand the aesthetic appeal for lots of people, but... Having a huge library where I can play any game of that era free of charge using emulation is more important to me.
Why not just use a PSP though?
I love my Evercade.
It is retrogaming so it doesnt matter in what year you playing 😅
You sound like Emily Booth......just a bit.
With the crazy amount of Chinese consoles available today that emulate every system on the Evercade and more, I don't know why anyone would want to PAY for the cartridges on this system???????
I’m much better off with the switch
No, it's garbage.
Very cool.
I want one. First new system I wanted since the ps4 / xbox one.
That Combatribes SNES ost goes hard.
