      It also works fantastic for my location where my open areas for typically under 50 yards. A 640 looks nicer but has the same capabilities in that kind of distance.
      It is built tough and is tiny as hell. It’s a great little handheld scanner easily fits inside jacket pocket or tucked in with a neck lanyard.
      With that said it’s sensor & lens size obviously aren’t going to perform as good as at further distances compared to a 640.

    Thanks for the great videos, very informative and helpful, and congratulations on joining a great company, the best in the NV industry!
    I have two PVS-14’s and a FLIR Breach and would like to be able to do the same thing (i.e. PVS-14 on my right eye & FLIR Breach on my left eye), but also to try an additional, more flexible option (if I can figure out how to do it) of mounting the Breach on some sort of J-Arm setup attached to a longer, extended rail on the left side of my helmet, which would allow me to articulate the left PVS-14 (mounted on either a Knight Vision bridge or Wilcox bridge) up out of the way and then swing the Breach into place in front of my left eye. I am hoping that either the Knight Vision J-Arm Modular Replacement or the Mod Armory J Arm Adapter might work for trying to rig up a setup like this. (Yes, I know that this is getting heavy on my head, but so far I’m fine with two PVS-14’s.)
    To try to accomplish this, I placed a large order of Knight Vision and Wilcox mounting hardware (bridges, arms, clips, shoes) with TNVC back in September. TNVC charged my credit card over $2.5k for the order at that time, back when I placed the order, in September, and told me that my order would be delivered in 5 weeks. It’s now been 5 months, and still no delivery. TNVC has had my money, over $2.5k, for the last 5 months. I trust TNVC because of its stellar reputation. But I agree with @LTGOneill here (in his comment below) about “convincing TNVC to take a backorder and not charge until an actual item is ready to ship.” All of the other vendors I do business with don’t charge my card until the order ships. TNVC seems to be the odd man out of step with the rest of the industry.
    But I continue to be patient, 5 months and counting. I hope you’re right that these items will be arriving this month (February). I’d be most grateful if you could check up on my order (#373488) and see that it doesn’t slip through the cracks, get left by the wayside or forgotten, with the scramble when these items do eventually arrive. Many thanks, and thanks again for the excellent videos!

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  3 года назад

      Unfortunately, we're at the mercy of when they actually arrive. What makes matters worse is that lead times are wacky right now on a lot of products including KVC. When you ordered that was the expected lead time. I'll check on the status of your order tomorrow.

    • @charleswhalen7332

      Thank you again for your quick response, especially on this one. I do understand, as it’s been this way with everything in the last year. Most of my optics orders have been taking anywhere from 4 to 8 months between order and delivery. This last year has taught us the value of patience.
      Jaimie has kept me informed (and ‘hanging on in quiet desperation,’ as the old Pink Floyd song goes) with a terse, polite response every month or two when I reach out to him to ask for a status update.
      But wow, it’s great having you onboard at TNVC and so accessible, (like Sam) educating us here on RUclips and responding to our queries! Thanks for your help!

    I've got an iray mh25 and a pvs-14 on the same KVC bridge. The mh25 is pretty good for detection, but it's garbage for identification IMO. Just too low resolution. Thermal is super weird looking anyway. The resolution of the pvs-14 is crazy high compared to the mh25 and the mh25 (like all digital systems, I imagine) has a lot of latency, especially noticeable when panning. I really like the bino + e-coti idea. I bet that's the absolute best solution available right now. I'd love to try it sometime.

    Will you be posting a video on the next generation COTI, the new ECOTI (that you mentioned in the video)?
    Hoping you can address the major complaint I’ve heard about its predecessor, the COTI - namely, that the thermal outline overlay doesn’t always line up properly in sync with the PVS-14’s NV image, and that it needs frequent adjustment. Wondering if the new ECOTI (now with a 30-degree FOV, 50% greater than the COTI’s 20-degree FOV, and so closer to the PVS-14’s 40-degree FOV) improves upon this weakness of the COTI?

    • @charleswhalen7332
      @charleswhalen7332 3 года назад

      Great, Will, thanks for the response! Very much looking forward to your review of the ECOTI at some point in the future, hopefully after an extended time using it, like this video you just posted after 2.5 months with the PVS-14/Breach right-eye/left-eye setup. No need really to look backwards to the COTI, but rather hopefully just an in-depth review of your extended use of the ECOTI and how well the two images sync up (the ECOTI’s thermal outline overlay onto the PVS-14’s NV image). At $8.4k, it had better be flawless in that regard.
      At that price, I could, at best, at most, possibly, maybe, stretch for a single one. I assume that a single ECOTI can only overlay onto just one PVS-14, and not onto both PVS-14’s (in a dual PVS-14 setup). So I would be interested in how your brain handles that (the slightly different image between the two eyes, with one eye not getting the thermal outline overlay while the other eye does). After how you’ve managed to train your brain to quasi-fuse the Breach image (in Outdoor Alert mode, turned down to low brightness setting) from your left eye and mentally overlay it onto and sync it up with the PVS-14 WP image in your right eye, that should be a piece of cake, relatively speaking.
      After extended usages of both: 1) the PVS-14/Breach right-eye/left-eye setup (and manually swapping back and forth between the Breach and a second PVS-14 on your left eye), and 2) dual PVS-14’s with a single ECOTI overlay onto one of the PVS-14’s, ... I would be interested in your opinion about the relative comparison and trade-offs between these two different setups and the cost/value proposition between them, within the contexts of different applications. ... Namely, do you think one may be better suited for MIL/LE applications and the other might be better suited for recreational applications? ... e.g., like possibly the ECOTI for MIL/LE applications, while the PVS-14/Breach setup (with manually swapping back and forth between the Breach and a second PVS-14 on the left eye) may be sufficient and work well enough for night hiking applications in cougar/bear country?
      I realize that this will be very personal, that will vary from one person to another, but just interested in your take (after you've had a chance to try out the ECOTI). Thanks!

      You have also provided me with the solution to my fogging problem in the hotter months. Don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that, but yup, my eyes are buried down in tunnel vision NODs. I need to back them off as you suggested. I’m right-handed but left-eye dominant, with my left eye having stronger vision than my right eye. And strangely enough I always thought, and wondered why, it’s usually just my left 14 that gets fogged, but not my right 14. Maybe together with my dominant left eye, the left side of my brain is working harder, and thus getting hotter; I dunno.

      You’ve presented some good options, with what looks like better cost/benefit trade-off and value proposition. Another possibility might be two COTI’s (one on each 14) for less than the price of a single ECOTI.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  3 года назад +1

      The splitting apart thing is something I recommend you fully explore if it’s something you will realistically take advantage of. I split devices apart such as the dual PVS-14’s because I take pics and video so it’s something I use. Otherwise, I would never split them apart. The RNVG will be a little lighter and it’s a better device being made of out aluminum plus it has integrated battery pack capability. Using a battery pack isn’t necessary but at least it’s there if you decide to use the feature.
      If you do the Mod-3’s, you will need something like a Wilcox j-arm and another mount to use the monocular you detach from the Mod-3 bridge. Plus a counterweight of some sort and any supporting accessories such as IR helmet lights.

      It depends. Spec sheets are ITAR controlled so they may be leery to email them. However they should be willing to at least tell you what the specs are if they have it in stock. If they don’t want to do that, then yes IMO, that’s sketchy.
      If the green gen 3 has good specs, say 30 signal to noise ratio, then I’d personally take that over the Echo WP. If the SNR is mid to low 20’s, then I’d go Echo

    Recently had my 2 x high $$ cost L3 TNVC PVS-14’s serviced and cleaned by a reputable competitor. I was advised they are both low-grade L3 unfilmed WP with multiple deficiencies. Not what I wanted to hear. Live and learn. Apparently high price tag doesn’t equal high quality. TNVC. I have been happy with all the other purchases not assembled by TNVC.

      Look, this channel is my channel and not TNVC’s. Your comment has nothing to do with this video which is about using a Breach and PVS-14 together so I’d appreciate keeping comments relevant.
      TNVC offers this service for free to customers and it would have cost you nothing to send it in. “Higher” grade tubes don’t mean they are better then “lower” grade tubes. I’ve seen “higher” grade tubes with lower specs than “lower” grade.
      There is too much vendor drama already on the internet and I won’t tolerate it on my channel. I’ll block and remove these types of comments and people.
      If this is a real comment and not a shit-post, bear in mind that NV drama is worse than high school so it’s more common than not for vendors to talk shit about their competitors.
      If you’re for real and have questions about any of this please contact me privately and we’ll discuss. Otherwise, don’t respond dragging this on. Thanks

    Was thinking what if TNVC had a system where you could sell your night vision to them and they could resell it for cheap. Otherwise eBay or gun websites are the only way.
    Also wondering how much it would cost to build your own night vision vs buying, and how would you do it? Need to contact manufacture?
    TNVC I guess still has a 3+ month wait time, wondering how’s that going and if they are upgrading for more demand.

      These days, building your own nv doesn't save you any money. Even when it did, it was worth it to buy new with a warranty. Everything, including repairs, is expensive with NV. There isn't a cheaper "good enough" option in this area.

      His and other opinions/experiences come from MIL/LE applications, and in that type of use I’ll agree it’s not something I’d recommend. It’s better suited to recreational use.

    • @charleswhalen7332
      @charleswhalen7332 3 года назад +1

      Sam’s videos are the best I’ve seen in terms of technical content, tremendous educational value, much appreciate the knowledge he shares (which I haven’t found anywhere else on RUclips). But I agree with Will that you have to understand the context of Sam’s opinions and advice he offers being that they come out of his MIL/LE experience and are tailored to that particular application, and thus may not always be the most appropriate for recreational applications like hunting or wilderness protection from predators.
      An example of this is that Sam doesn’t recommend IR lasers for pistols. He says that “pros” no longer use them. He didn’t elaborate an explanation, but it’s easy to figure out why. For “pros,” that being MIL/LE, ... the bad guys - enemy forces, insurgents, guerillas, terrorists, cross-border smugglers, human coyotes, drug cartels, gangs, etc. - these days many of them have NV, and thus must be assumed to be using them. If MIL/LE use IR lasers for targeting, that could give away their position (and existence) to the bad guys and thus their use could be a fatal mistake. So Sam’s advice is appropriate and makes sense, in that particular context.
      But in the context of recreational applications, ... hogs, coyotes, bear, and cougar aren’t wearing NV goggles and can’t see your IR laser. Although Sam knocks IR lasers as being not the most accurate for targeting, in my personal experience I find them to be just as accurate as (NV-compatible) high-quality red dots.
      But IMO the biggest advantage of an IR laser over a (NV-compatible) red dot is that, while red dots are generally pretty good about enabling the shooter to pick up, acquire and get on a target relatively quickly, I find that, at night, an IR laser is even better in that regard. This would especially be the case in a nighttime sudden SHTU (underpants-soiling) high-stress surprise encounter with a bear or cougar at relatively short range (less than 25 yards), where that target is moving and your focus needs to stay squarely on the threat.
      But definitely love Sam’s vids! ... As well as Will’s, which provide a very helpful, useful, alternative perspective and context for those of us with recreational applications!
