@@Heywoodthepeckerwood oh lord, you're being serious.... First off the visual horizon is not a fixed distance away. The higher up you go, the farther out you can see. In my example, i was probably about 35 feet above the water. Second, when you're spotting a boat, they also stick up above the horizon, so you can see the top of the bridge/mast well before you can see the whole boat. And 3rd, when it comes to night vision specifically, you weren't actually seeing the vessel. You see what we called the "loom" of light it was emitting shining up over the horizon.

I was blessed to have a friend find me a gently used blemless Elbit Gen 3 thin filmed green phos PVS-14 for $1950 shipped. Low Light Innovations makes a terrific "white" filter that essentially mimics white phos in appearance with limited light transmission loss for only $25. To save money on the mount, he suggested an "Evolution Gear L4G24 NVG Mount Perfect Replica" for only $85 shipped instead of the $465 for the real one, and the quality is phenomenal. I also picked up a used Wilcox AN/PVS-14 Arm for $150 shipped down from the original $229 price. Botach has a Longfri Level IIIA ballistic helmet for only $199 that is around 3 pounds, good quality for the price and there are lots of ballistic test videos on them. I also went with the FCS AMP Headset that is a fully functioning Replica of the Ops Core AMP for only $175 shipped down from $999 for the real one. I plan on running a Disco 32 PTT with them to get my Comms squared away. Although all of this stuff is still expensive, there are ways of making NVGs and Comms realistically affordable instead of an unobtainable pipe dream. I highly encourage yourself and others to do the same. I was able to have just as functional of a setup for a little more than $2,500 that would have been $7,500+ if I had gone "Gucci" on everything.

I've had several PVS-14's (MX11769UV Tubes) over the last 10 years. I sell my 14 & then feel naked, end up buying another & sleep better at night. It's a no nonsense workhorse in the I2 world.
I tried the Bridge option with two 14's but the weight just killed it, maybe one day I'll pick up a set of used 15's or a BNVD.
I've owned All the mounts, shrouds & arms plus a Wide selection of helmets & various other skull crusher replacements. I always end up going back to the AKA2 w/ dovetail socket, Norotos Universal shroud & either the Dual Dovetail Adapter THA or wilcox J-Arm with an Ops-Core Carbon or Team Wendy Exfil LTP.
I've found that to be my personal best system setups.
Wilcox kit is nice but no one ever mentions with a good bit of use it tends to loosen up at the pivot points & can not be repaired. Bungie's on your helmet mitigate that play but for the money I want a Rock Solid mounting system that can take abuse. SF loves them because its free kit that serves its purpose but for the average user I'd say Nortoos is the clear winner.
    Just my lously opinion :)

I have mounted the PVS-14 forward of a 4x ACOG. I turned the eye piece where it meshed flush with the over hang shield of the forward lense of the ACOG. You can focus the lenses using the forward and rear lense dials on the PVS-14 where it provides a clear picture. Now, I have no idea if this causes a POI shift in the zero but I noticed an INCREASE in magnification from this setup. It made positive identification of everything within 200 meters under starlight possible. I was able to positively identify people and objects through windows effectively.

Thoughts on two bridged PVS-14's? I've been shopping hard and I'm leaning towards dual PVS-14's. Sure, it's heavier but I'm just using them to hog hunt and night shoot. The MUM is a long dead program. It was designed for the Navy with slightly better water proofing but it used a 10160 auto gain tube, a bunch of proprietary parts and had a terrible mounting interface that would shear off and render the unit unmountable to a helmet. It was a poor design compared to the -14 which even after 20+ years is still going strong.
