    Jon would you recommend getting a PVS14 with a higher quality tube (L3 gen 3 white phos film less or a dual tube set up with lesser quality tubes (perhaps basic green phos). From what I’ve seen it seems that a top notch 14 can go for around 4500ish and a can prob find a lower end dual for the 6-6500 range. Would you recommend the quality over the one over the ability to have an extra tube if that extra price difference is manageable?

    • @KineticConsulting
      @KineticConsulting  3 года назад +4

      Personally I'd go with a set of decent duals or the awesome 14. Either way you'll have to make the choice. The good part about having the duals is you can upgrade tubes eventually. The good part of having the 14 is that it's easy to travel and pocket plus useful for filming and stuff.

    I’m on the fence between RNVG and DTNV act in blacks. Most uses will be woods and fields hunting, but the secondary use corresponds with a plate carrier for unlikely scenarios that still unfortunately do exist. I guess I’m a little nervous about polymer vs aluminum along with water issues. I see the wires and circuitry are protected in the RNVG and not sure about the DTNV. Any thoughts would be helpful, the budget is there for either. Also have a 14 on order from TNVC, just hate the wait. “I just want wizard eyes 😢”

    PVS-7's get a lot of shit, but they're honestly solid for what they are. I don't disagree with most of the complaints about them, but there is one thing most people fail to consider, or simply don't realize. First, let me start with my logic of why they get trashed so hard:
    Most of the folks who have used both PVS7’s and PVS14’s tend to be military folks who had the ‘luxury’ of using 7’s as their first/only NVG experience. Rarely did somebody get into the military, come up on ANVIS, then start rolling 7's - rarely enough, I'd bet it's literally never happened. Later in their military careers, 14’s found their way to the mainstream and the upgrade was clear and overwhelming to all - smaller, lighter, better situational awareness/peripheral vision, so on and so forth. Most of us never looked back.
    Again, I agree with most of the points in favor of 14’s over 7’s. But again, most of us never looked back at “shitty 7’s.” If you took the time and pulled a set of 7’s out after years of running 14’s however, you were probably amazed at the image clarity the 7’s have, as compared to 14’s.
    I’m no scientologist; just a dumb grunt, but my understanding is that the larger tube diameter crammed into 7’s that results in a VERY noticeably sharper image than 14’s.
    Again, this comes at the cost of weight, size, bulk, etc. For movements, 7’s are excellent for anyone who gets to watch the poor bastard try to navigate in them, but pretty horrible for anyone unfortunate enough to be wearing them.
    So, yeah…I agree that *in general* 7’s are to be avoided. But exactly as you said: "you can still see in the fucking dark." So while there are very clear advantages to other options, don’t make the mistake of thinking 7’s are useless. At worst, they rank right up there with fat chicks and mopeds. If somebody has no NODs and finds a deal - 100% buy those 7s and get into the game. Even if I owned something else, I'd jump on a good deal for 7's to have them in the stables. While I was deployed, I would still take 7’s out if I was setting up an observation post. My 14’s never left my kit, and saw many, many times more use. I was never fortunate enough to play with anything higher dollar to offer any comparison.

    I was blessed to have a friend find me a gently used blemless Elbit Gen 3 thin filmed green phos PVS-14 for $1950 shipped. Low Light Innovations makes a terrific "white" filter that essentially mimics white phos in appearance with limited light transmission loss for only $25. To save money on the mount, he suggested an "Evolution Gear L4G24 NVG Mount Perfect Replica" for only $85 shipped instead of the $465 for the real one, and the quality is phenomenal. I also picked up a used Wilcox AN/PVS-14 Arm for $150 shipped down from the original $229 price. Botach has a Longfri Level IIIA ballistic helmet for only $199 that is around 3 pounds, good quality for the price and there are lots of ballistic test videos on them. I also went with the FCS AMP Headset that is a fully functioning Replica of the Ops Core AMP for only $175 shipped down from $999 for the real one. I plan on running a Disco 32 PTT with them to get my Comms squared away. Although all of this stuff is still expensive, there are ways of making NVGs and Comms realistically affordable instead of an unobtainable pipe dream. I highly encourage yourself and others to do the same. I was able to have just as functional of a setup for a little more than $2,500 that would have been $7,500+ if I had gone "Gucci" on everything..........

      So they do not have binocular vision. It's a mirror image on both eyes. If you look at how our eyes is human beings work we're not seeing a mirror image we are seeing two separate images that correspond to one location as to where we're looking. The 7 is creating a mirror image to both which doesn't correspond with our eyes or our brain. Making it horrible night vision

      @clintonscanlon1325 3 года назад +4

      It's only one objective lens, but two ocular lenses. So you still only have 1 tube amplifying the light, but its covering both eyes. The advantage of a dual tube system is that because there are 2 amplifying sources you are able to have depth perception as with regular daytime vision. The advantage with a monocular system is that the uncovered eye is still able to see the environment to a degree and also aid with navigation and non night vision tasks. PVS7's are basically the worst of both systems; both eyes are covered, yet you still have no depth perception. I have personally used both, and PVS7's suck.

      @@KineticConsulting He's talking about the AN/PVS-18 or the M983. It's half of a PVS-15 turned into a monocular, it has a two dovetails so you don't need a J-arm and you can reverse it easily, like it's got a Norotos DDA built into it.
